Abstract:In this paper we show the invertibility of the geodesic X-ray transform on one forms and 2-tensors on asymptotically conic manifolds, up to the natural obstruction, allowing existence of certain kinds of conjugate points. We use the 1-cusp pseudodifferential operator algebra and its semiclassical foliation version introduced and used by Vasy and Zachos, who showed the same type invertibility on functions.The complication of the invertibility of the tensorial X-ray transform, compared with X-ray transform on functions, is caused by the natural kernel of the transform consisting of 'potential tensors'. We overcome this by arranging a modified solenoidal gauge condition, under which we have the invertibility of the X-ray transform.

Abstract:We present a reconstruction method that stably recovers the real valued, symmetric tensors compactly supported in the Euclidean plane, from knowledge of their attenuated momenta ray transform. The problem is recast as an inverse boundary value problem for a system of transport equations, which we solve by an extension of Bukhgeim's $A$-analytic theory. The method of proof is constructive. To illustrate the reconstruction method, we present results obtained in the numerical implementation for the non-attenuated case of 1-tensors. This new version now includes the results of the preprint arXiv: <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2307.10758" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.10758">2307.10758</a>.

Abstract:In this paper, a restricted transverse ray transform acting on vector and symmetric m-tensor fields is studied. We developed inversion algorithms using restricted transverse ray transform data to recover symmetric m-tensor fields in R 3 and vector fields in R n . We restrict the transverse ray transform to all lines going through a fixed curve γ that satisfies the Kirillov-Tuy condition. We show that the known restricted data can be used to reconstruct a specific weighted Radon transform of the unknown vector/tensor field's components, which we then use to explicitly recover the unknown field.

Abstract:In this article, we study a restricted mixed ray transform acting on second-order tensor fields in 3-dimensional Euclidean space and prove the invertibility of this integral transform using microlocal techniques. Here, the mixed ray transform is restricted over lines passing through a fixed curve $\gamma$ in $\mathbb{R}^3$ satisfying certain geometric conditions. The main theorem of the article shows that a second-order tensor field can be recovered from its restricted mixed-ray transform up to the kernel of the transform, a smoothing term, and a known singular term.

Generic injectivity of the X-ray transform

Abstract:In dimensions $\geq 3$, we prove that the X-ray transform of symmetric tensors of arbitrary degree is generically injective with respect to the metric on closed Anosov manifolds and on manifolds with spherical strictly convex boundary, no conjugate points and a hyperbolic trapped set. This has two immediate corollaries: local spectral rigidity, and local marked length spectrum rigidity (building on earlier work by Guillarmou, Knieper and the second author [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1806.04218" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1806.04218">arXiv:1806.04218</a>], [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1909.08666" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1909.08666">arXiv:1909.08666</a>]), in a neighbourhood of a generic Anosov metric. In both cases, this is the first work going beyond the negatively curved assumption or dimension $2$. Our method, initiated in [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2008.09191" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2008.09191">arXiv:2008.09191</a>] and fully developed in the present paper, is based on a perturbative argument of the $0$-eigenvalue of elliptic operators via microlocal analysis which turn the analytic problem of injectivity into an algebraic problem of representation theory. When the manifold is equipped with a Hermitian vector bundle together with a unitary connection, we also show that the twisted X-ray transform of symmetric tensors (with values in that bundle) is generically injective with respect to the connection. This property turns out to be crucial when solving the $\textit{holonomy inverse problem}$, as studied in a subsequent article [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2105.06376" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2105.06376">arXiv:2105.06376</a>].

Abstract:We present a new computed tomography (CT) method for inverting the Radon transform in 2D. The idea relies on the geometry of the flat torus, hence we call the new method Torus CT. We prove new inversion formulas for integrable functions, solve a minimization problem associated to Tikhonov regularization in Sobolev spaces and prove that the solution operator provides an admissible regularization strategy with a quantitative stability estimate. This regularization is a simple post-processing low-pass filter for the Fourier series of a phantom. We also study the adjoint and the normal operator of the X-ray transform on the flat torus. The X-ray transform is unitary on the flat torus. We have implemented the Torus CT method using Matlab and tested it with simulated data with promising results. The inversion method is meshless in the sense that it gives out a closed form function that can be evaluated at any point of interest.

Abstract:Consider a compact Riemannian manifold in dimension $n$ with strictly convex boundary. We show the local invertibility near a boundary point of the transverse ray transform of $2$ tensors for $n\geq 3$ and the mixed ray transform of $2+2$ tensors for $n=3$. When the manifold admits a strictly convex function, this local invertibility result leads to global invertibility.

Abstract:Abstract Ray transforms for vector or tensor fields have been studied for a long time, also in connection with Doppler or polarization tomography. In contrast to the classical Radon transform or X-ray transform their known inversion formulae are rather complicated, and represented, for example, using series expansions or singular value decompositions. Recently, applications of the approximate inverse have been studied. In this paper we present a new class of inversion formulae for compactly supported fields similar to those of the X-ray transform. The derivation is based on two observations. First, we apply Derevtsov’s formula relating the ray transforms of vector or tensor fields to a derivative of the X-ray transform of a generating potential, [3]. Second, we apply the calculation of derivatives of a scalar function from its X-ray transform, as it is realized in feature reconstruction, [15, 16]. Generalizations complete the presentation.

Abstract:Let D(Ω,Φ) be the unbounded realization of the classical domain [Formula: see text] of type one. In general, its Šilov boundary [Formula: see text] is a nilpotent Lie group of step two. In this article we define the Radon transform on [Formula: see text], and obtain an inversion formula [Formula: see text] in terms of a determinantal differential operator. Moreover, we characterize a subspace of [Formula: see text] on which the Radon transform is a bijection. By use of the suitable continuous wavelet transform we establish a new inversion formula of the Radon transform in weak sense without the assumption of differentiability.

Abstract:In this article, we study various aspects of the mixed ray transform of $(k + \ell)$-tensor fields that are symmetric in its first $k$ and last $\ell$ indices. As a first result, we derive an inversion algorithm to recover the solenoidal part of the unknown tensor field using the normal operator of the mixed ray transform. Next, we establish a set of unique continuation results. In addition to these, we discuss the range characterization of the mixed ray transform as the final result.

Abstract:The so-called Takahashi's \emph{Inversion Theorem}, the reconstruction of a given spinor based on its bilinear covariants, are re-examined, considering alternative dual structures. In contrast to the classical results, where the Dirac dual structure plays the central role, new duals are built using the discrete symmetries $\mathcal{C}, \mathcal{P}, \mathcal{T}$. Their combinations are also taken into account. Furthermore, the imposition of a new adjoint structure led us also to re-examine the representation of the Clifford algebra basis elements, uncovering new bilinear structures and a new Fierz aggregate. Those results might help construct theories for new beyond standard model fields.

Abstract:We present a non-trivial metric tensor field on the space of 2-by-2 real-valued, symmetric matrices whose Levi-Civita connection renders frames of eigenvectors parallel. This results in fundamental reimagining of the space of symmetric matrices as a curved manifold (rather than a flat vector space) and reduces the computation of eigenvectors of one-parameter-families of matrices to a single computation of eigenvectors at an initial point, while the rest are obtained by the parallel transport ODE. Our work has important applications to vibrations of physical systems whose topology is directly explained by the non-trivial holonomy of the spaces of symmetric matrices.

Abstract:Tensor computations play an essential role in various fields of science and engineering, including multiway data analysis. In this study, we established a few basic properties of the range and null space of a tensor by using block circulant matrices and a discrete Fourier matrix. We then discuss the outer inverse of the tensors based on t ‐product with a prescribed range and kernel of third‐order tensors. We address the relation of this outer inverse with other generalized inverses, such as the Moore–Penrose inverse, group inverse, and Drazin inverse. In addition, we present a few algorithms for computing the outer inverses of the tensors. In particular, a t ‐QR decomposition based algorithm was developed to compute outer inverses. It is well known that the confidentiality of information transmitted through the virtual world grows exponentially, and color image and video security have become a significant concern when communicating over the internet. As an application, a t ‐QR decomposition based algorithm was demonstrated for concealing secret color images and videos.

Abstract:In this paper we formulate and prove a gauge equivalence for unitary connections and skew-Hermitian Higgs fields of suitable regularity that are mapped to the same function under the non-abelian X-ray transform on nontrapping asymptotically hyperbolic spaces with negative curvature and no nontrivial twisted conformal Killing tensor fields with certain regularity. If one furthermore fixes such a connection with zero curvature, a corollary provides an injectivity result for the non-abelian X-ray transform over skew-Hermitian Higgs fields.

Abstract:In this paper, we give some basic properties for the left (right) inverse, rank and product of tensors. The existence of order 2 left (right) inverses of tensors is characterized. We obtain some equalities and inequalities on the tensor rank. We also show that the rank of a uniform hypergraph is independent of the ordering of its vertices, and the Laplacian tensor and the signless Laplacian tensor have the same rank for odd-bipartite even uniform hypergraphs.
