Abstract:We establish the asymptotic expansion of certain integrals of [Formula: see text] classes on moduli spaces of curves [Formula: see text], when either the [Formula: see text] or [Formula: see text] goes to infinity. Our main tools are cut-join type recursion formulae from the Witten–Kontsevich theorem, as well as asymptotics of solutions to the first Painlevé equation. We also raise a conjecture on large genus asymptotics for [Formula: see text]-point functions of [Formula: see text] classes and partially verify the positivity of coefficients in generalized Mirzakhani’s formula of higher Weil–Petersson volumes.

Abstract:We consider a purely algebraic result. Then given a circle or cyclic group of prime order action on a manifold, we will use it to estimate the lower bound of the number of fixed points. We also give an obstruction to the existence of $\mathbb{Z}_p$ action on manifolds with isolated fixed points when $p$ is a prime.

Abstract:Let s be a special point on a Shimura variety, and x a pre-image of s in a fixed fundamental set of the associated Hermitian symmetric domain. We prove that the height of x is polynomially bounded with respect to the discriminant of the centre of the endomorphism ring of the corresponding Z-Hodge structure. Our bound is the final step needed to complete a proof of the Andre-Oort conjecture under the conjectural lower bounds for the sizes of Galois orbits of special points, using a strategy of Pila and Zannier.

Abstract:We improve known estimates for the number of points of bounded height in semigroup orbits of polarized dynamical systems. In particular, we give exact asymptotics for generic semigroups acting on the projective line. The main new ingredient is the Wiener-Ikehara Tauberian theorem, which we use to count functions in semigroups of bounded degree.

Uniqueness and non-uniqueness for the asymptotic Plateau problem in hyperbolic space

Abstract:We prove several results on the number of solutions to the asymptotic Plateau problem in $\mathbb H^3$. Firstly we discuss criteria that ensure uniqueness. Given a Jordan curve $\Lambda$ in the asymptotic boundary of $\mathbb H^3$, we show that uniqueness of the minimal surfaces with asymptotic boundary $\Lambda$ is equivalent to uniqueness in the smaller class of stable minimal disks. Then we show that if a quasicircle (or more generally, a Jordan curve of finite width) $\Lambda$ is the asymptotic boundary of a minimal surface $\Sigma$ with principal curvatures less than or equal to 1 in absolute value, then uniqueness holds. In the direction of non-uniqueness, we construct an example of a quasicircle that is the asymptotic boundary of uncountably many pairwise distinct stable minimal disks.

Abstract:Abstract Let G be a Lie group, let $\Gamma \subset G$ be a discrete subgroup, let $X=G/\Gamma $ and let f be an affine map from X to itself. We give conditions on a submanifold Z of X that guarantee that the set of points $x\in X$ with f -trajectories avoiding Z is hyperplane absolute winning (a property which implies full Hausdorff dimension and is stable under countable intersections). A similar result is proved for one-parameter actions on X . This has applications in constructing exceptional geodesics on locally symmetric spaces and in non-density of the set of values of certain functions at integer points.

Abstract:This note discusses some intriguing connections between height bounds on complex K-semistable Fano varieties X and Peyre's conjectural formula for the density of rational points on X. Relations to an upper bound for the smallest rational point, proposed by Elsenhans-Jahnel, are also explored. These relations suggest an analog of the height inequalities, adapted to the real points, which is established for the real projective line and related to Kähler-Einstein metrics.

Abstract:We study asymptotic behaviors of solutions f to the Dirichlet problem for minimal graphs in the hyperbolic space with singular asymptotic boundaries under the assumption that the boundaries are piecewise regular with positive curvatures, a case which also arises in the study of a Chaplygin gas. We derive an estimate of such solutions by the corresponding solutions in the intersections of interior tangent balls. The positivity of curvatures plays an important role.

Abstract:Local heights are arithmetic invariants used in the quadratic Chabauty method for determining the rational points on curves. We present an algorithm to compute these local heights for hyperelliptic curves at odd primes $\ell\neq p$. This algorithm significantly broadens the applicability of quadratic Chabauty to curves which were previously inaccessible due to the presence of non-trivial local heights. We provide numerous examples, including the first quadratic Chabauty computation for a curve having two primes with non-trivial local heights.

Abstract:Suppose that a Hilbert scheme of points on a K3 surface S of Picard rank one admits a rational Lagrangian fibration. We show that if the degree of the surface is sufficiently large compared to the number of points, then the Hilbert scheme is the unique hyperkähler manifold in its birational class. In particular, the Hilbert scheme is a Lagrangian fibration itself, which we realize as coming from a (twisted) Beauville–Mukai system on a Fourier–Mukai partner of S . We also show that when the degree of the surface is small our method can be used to find all birational models of the Hilbert scheme.

Abstract:We introduce and study the notion of a generalised Hecke orbit in a Shimura variety. We define a height function on such an orbit and study its properties. We obtain lower bounds for the sizes of Galois orbits of points in a generalised Hecke orbit in terms of this height function, assuming the 'weakly adelic Mumford–Tate hypothesis' and prove the generalised André–Pink–Zannier conjecture under this assumption, using Pila–Zannier strategy.

Abstract:Under a stronger genericity condition, we prove the local analogue of ghost conjecture of Bergdall and Pollack. As applications, we deduce in this case (a) a folklore conjecture of Breuil--Buzzard--Emerton on the crystalline slopes of Kisin's crystabelian deformation spaces, (b) Gouvea's $\lfloor\frac{k-1}{p+1}\rfloor$-conjecture on slopes of modular forms, and (c) the finiteness of irreducible components of the eigencurve. In addition, applying combinatorial arguments by Bergdall and Pollack, and by Ren, we deduce as corollaries in the reducible and strongly generic case, (d) Gouvea--Mazur conjecture, (e) a variant of Gouvea's conjecture on slope distributions, and (f) a refined version of Coleman's spectral halo conjecture.

Local Euler characteristics of $A_n$-singularities and their application to hyperbolicity

Abstract:Wahl's local Euler characteristic measures the local contributions of a singularity to the usual Euler characteristic of a sheaf. Using tools from toric geometry, we study the local Euler characteristic of sheaves of symmetric differentials for isolated surface singularities of type $A_n$. We prove an explicit formula for the local Euler characteristic of the $m$th symmetric power of the cotangent bundle; this is a quasi-polynomial in $m$ of period $n+1$. We also express the components of the local Euler characteristic as a count of lattice points in a non-convex polyhedron, again showing it is a quasi-polynomial. We apply our computations to obtain new examples of algebraic quasi-hyperbolic surfaces in $\mathbb{P}^3$ of low degree. We show that an explicit family of surfaces with many singularities constructed by Labs has no genus $0$ curves for the members of degree at least $8$ and no curves of genus $0$ or $1$ for degree at least $10$.

Partial Heights and the Geometric Bombieri-Lang Conjecture

Abstract: We prove the geometric Bombieri-Lang conjecture for projective varieties which have finite morphisms to abelian varieties over function fields of characteristic 0. Our proof is complex analytic, which applies the classical Brody lemma to construct entire curves on complex varieties. Our key ingredients includes a new notion of partial height and its non-degeneracy in a suitable sense. The non-degeneracy is required in the application of the Brody lemma.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective variety defined over a number field $K$ and let $\varphi: X \to X$ a polarized endomorphism of degree $d \geq 2$. Let $\widehat{h}_{\varphi}$ be the canonical height associated to $\varphi$ on $X(\overline{K})$. Given a generic sequence of points $(x_n)$ with $\widehat{h}_{\varphi}(x_n) \to 0$ and a place $v \in M_K$, Yuan [Yua08] has shown that the conjugates of $x_n$ equidistribute to the canonical measure $\mu_{\varphi,v}$. When $v$ is archimedean, we will prove a quantitative version of Yuan's result. We give two applications of our result to polarized endomorphisms $\varphi$ of smooth projective surfaces that are defined over a number field $K$. The first is an exponential rate of convergence for periodic points of period $n$ to the equilibrium measure and the second is an exponential lower bound on the degree of the extension containing all periodic points of period $n$. When $X$ is an abelian variety, we also give an upper bound on the smallest degree of a hypersurface that contains all points $x \in X(\overline{K})$ satisfying $[K(x):K] \leq D$ and $\widehat{h}_X(x) \leq \frac{c}{D^8}$ for some fixed constant $c > 0$ where $\widehat{h}_X$ is the Neron--Tate height for $X$.

Some Lê-Greuel type formulae on stratified spaces

Abstract:We extend the circle of ideas from a previous paper on hypersurfaces to functions $f \colon (\mathbb C^n, 0) \to (\mathbb C^k, 0)$ with an isolated singularity in a stratified sense on an arbitrary, but fixed complex analytic germ $(X, 0)$. An extension of Tib{\u a}r's Bouquet Theorem to this setup allows for a topological definition of Milnor numbers $\mu(\alpha; f)$ for each stratum $V^\alpha$ of $X$ and we prove several formulas which compute these numbers as (alternating) sums of certain ``homological indices''. The main technical result at work in the background is a local Riemann-Roch type theorem, relating a topological obstruction to holomorphic Euler characteristics.

Abstract:We prove asymptotics for semi-integral points of bounded height on toric varieties. We verify the Manin-type conjecture of Pieropan, Smeets, Tanimoto and Várilly-Alvarado for smooth and certain singular toric orbifolds upon replacing the leading constant with the one predicted by Chow, Loughran, Takloo-Bighash and Tanimoto.
