Abstract:We introduce a new class of pseudodifferential operators, called Heisenberg semiclassical pseudodifferential operators, to study the space of sections of a power of a line bundle on a compact manifold, in the limit where the power is large. This class contains the Bochner Laplacian associated with a connection of the line bundle, and when the curvature is nondegenerate, its resolvent and some associated spectral projections, including generalized Bergman kernels.

From spectral cluster to uniform resolvent estimates on compact manifolds

Abstract:It is well known that uniform resolvent estimates imply spectral cluster estimates. We show that the converse is also true in some cases. In particular, the universal spectral cluster estimates of Sogge \cite{MR930395} for the Laplace--Beltrami operator on compact Riemannian manifolds without boundary directly imply the uniform Sobolev inequality of Dos Santos Ferreira, Kenig and Salo \cite{MR3200351}, without any reference to parametrices. This observation also yields new resolvent estimates for manifolds with boundary or with nonsmooth metrics, based on spectral cluster bounds of Smith--Sogge \cite{MR2316270} and Smith, Koch and Tataru \cite{MR2443996}, respectively. We also convert the recent spectral cluster bounds of Canzani and Galkowski \cite{Canzani--Galkowski} to improved resolvent bounds. Moreover, we show that the resolvent estimates are stable under perturbations and use this to establish uniform Sobolev and spectral cluster inequalities for Schrödinger operators with singular potentials.

Abstract:It was conjectured by the first author and Peetre that the higher Laplace–Beltrami operators generate the whole ring of invariant operators on bounded symmetric domains. We give a proof of the conjecture for domains of rank ≤ 6 by using a graph manipulation of Kähler curvature tensor. We also compute higher order terms in the asymptotic expansions of the Bergman kernels and the Berezin transform on bounded symmetric domain.

Abstract:We establish global bounds for solutions to stationary and time-dependent Schrödinger equations associated with the sublaplacian $\mathcal L$ on the Heisenberg group, as well as its pure fractional power $\mathcal L^s$ and conformally invariant fractional power $\mathcal L_s$. The main ingredient is a new abstract uniform weighted resolvent estimate which is proved by using the method of weakly conjugate operators -- a variant of Mourre's commutator method -- and Hardy's type inequalities on the Heisenberg group. As applications, we show Kato-type smoothing effects for the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, and spectral stability of the sublaplacian perturbed by complex-valued decaying potentials satisfying an explicit subordination condition. In the local case $s=1$, we obtain uniform estimates without any symmetry or derivative loss, which improve previous results.

Abstract:On a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, we prove a spectral inequality for the bi-Laplace operator in the case of so-called "clamped" boundary conditions , that is, homogeneous Dirichlet and Neumann conditions simultaneously. We also prove a resolvent estimate for the generator of the damped plate semigroup associated with these boundary conditions. The spectral inequality allows one to observe finite sums of eigenfunctions for this fourth-order elliptic operator, from an arbitrary open subset of the manifold. Moreover, the constant that appears in the inequality grows as exp(C$\mu$ 1/4) where $\mu$ is the largest eigenvalue associated with the eigenfunctions appearing in the sum. This type of inequality is known for the Laplace operator. As an application, we obtain a null-controllability result for a higher-order parabolic equation. The resolvent estimate provides the spectral behavior of the plate semigroup generator on the imaginary axis. This type of estimate is known in the case of the damped wave semigroup. As an application , we deduce a stabilization result for the damped plate equation, with a log-type decay. The proofs of both the spectral inequality and the resolvent estimate are based on the derivation of different types of Carleman estimates for an elliptic operator related to the bi-Laplace operator: in the interior and at some boundaries. One of these estimates exhibits a loss of one full derivative. Its proof requires the introduction of an appropriate semi-classical calculus and a delicate microlocal argument.

Abstract:We extend recent results on discrete approximations of the Laplacian in $\mathbf{R}^d$ with norm resolvent convergence to the corresponding results for Dirichlet and Neumann Laplacians on a half-space. The resolvents of the discrete Dirichlet/Neumann Laplacians are embedded into the continuum using natural discretization and embedding operators. Norm resolvent convergence to their continuous counterparts is proven with a quadratic rate in the mesh size. These results generalize with a limited rate to also include operators with a real, bounded, and Hölder continuous potential, as well as certain functions of the Dirichlet/Neumann Laplacians, including any positive real power. Restriction of Schrödinger eigenfunctions to submanifolds

Abstract:Burq-Gérard-Tzvetkov and Hu established $L^p$ estimates for the restriction of Laplace-Beltrami eigenfunctions to submanifolds. We investigate the eigenfunctions of the Schrödinger operators with critically singular potentials, and estimate the $L^p$ norms and period integrals for their restriction to submanifolds. Recently, Blair-Sire-Sogge obtained global $L^p$ bounds for Schrödinger eigenfunctions by the resolvent method. Due to the Sobolev trace inequalities, the resolvent method cannot work for submanifolds of all dimensions. We get around this difficulty and establish spectral projection bounds by the wave kernel techniques and the bootstrap argument involving an induction on the dimensions of the submanifolds.

Abstract:The purpose of this note is to investigate the concentration properties of spectral projectors on manifolds. This question has been intensively studied (by Logvinenko--Sereda, Nazarov, Jerison--Lebeau, Kovrizhkin, Egidi--Seelmann--Veseli{ć}, Burq--Moyano, among others) in connection with the uncertainty principle. We provide the first high-frequency results in a geometric setting which is neither Euclidean nor a perturbation of Euclidean. Namely, we prove the natural (and optimal) uncertainty principle for the spectral projector on the hyperbolic half-plane.

Abstract:We establish a Gaussian upper bound of the heat kernel for the Laplace-Beltrami operator on complete Riemannian manifolds with Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature bounded below. As applications, we first prove an L^1-Liouville property for non-negative subharmonic functions when the potential function of the Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature tensor is of at most quadratic growth. Then we derive lower bounds of the eigenvalues of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on closed manifolds. An upper bound of the bottom spectrum is also obtained.

Abstract:We prove eigenvalue bounds for Schrödinger operator $-\Delta_g+V$ on compact manifolds with complex potentials $V$. The bounds depend only on an $L^q$-norm of the potential, and they are shown to be optimal, in a certain sense, on the round sphere and more general Zoll manifolds. These bounds are natural analogues of Frank's \cite{MR2820160} results in the Euclidean case.

Abstract:We develop a unified approach to proving $L^p-L^q$ boundedness of spectral projectors, the resolvent of the Laplace-Beltrami operator and its derivative on $\mathbb{H}^d.$ In the case of spectral projectors, and when $p$ and $q$ are in duality, the dependence of the implicit constant on $p$ is shown to be sharp. We also give partial results on the question of $L^p-L^q$ boundedness of the Fourier extension operator. As an application, we prove smoothing estimates for the free Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{H}^d$ and a limiting absorption principle for the electromagnetic Schrödinger equation with small potentials.

Abstract:Let $L$ be the distinguished Laplacian on the Iwasawa $AN$ group associated with a semisimple Lie group $G$. Assume $F$ is a Borel function on $\mathbb{R}^+$. We give a condition on $F$ such that the kernels of the functions $F(L)$ are uniformly bounded. This condition involves the decay of $F$ only and not its derivatives. By a known correspondence, this implies pointwise estimates for a wide range of functions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on symmetric spaces. In particular, when $G$ is of real rank one and $F(x)={\rm e}^{it\sqrt x}\psi(\sqrt x)$, our bounds are sharp.

Abstract:In previous papers, [M1, M2], [M3], we proved the existence as well as regularity of a finite range decomposition for the resolvent $G_{\alpha} (x-y,m^2) = ((-\Delta)^{\alpha\over 2} + m^{2})^{-1} (x-y) $, for $0<\alpha <2$ and all real $m$, in the lattice ${\bf Z}^{d}$ for dimension $d\ge 2$. In this paper, which is a continuation of the previous one, we extend those results by proving the existence as well as regularity of a finite range decomposition for the same resolvent but now on the lattice torus ${\bf Z}^{d}/L^{N+1}{\bf Z}^{d} $ for $d\ge 2$ provided $m\neq 0$ and $0<\alpha <2$. We also prove differentiability and uniform continuity properties with respect to the resolvent parameter $m^{2}$. Here $L$ is any odd positive integer and $N\ge 2$ is any positive integer.

Abstract:In this article, we shall construct the resolvent of Laplacian at high energies near the spectrum on non-product conic manifolds with a single cone tip. Microlocally, the resolvent kernel is the sum of b-pseudodifferential operators, scattering pseudodifferential operators and intersecting Legendrian distributions. As an application, we shall establish Strichartz estimates for Schrödinger equations on non-compact manifolds with multiple non-product conic singularities.

Abstract:We obtain improved Strichartz estimates for solutions of the Schrödinger equation on compact manifolds with nonpositive sectional curvatures which are related to the classical universal results of Burq, Gérard and Tzvetkov [11]. More explicitly, we are able refine the arguments in the recent work of Blair and the authors [3] to obtain no-loss $L^p_tL^{q}_{x}$-estimates on intervals of length $\log \lambda\cdot \lambda^{-1} $ for all {\em admissible} pairs $(p,q)$ when the initial data have frequencies comparable to $\lambda$, which, given the role of the Ehrenfest time, is the natural analog in this setting of the universal results in [11]. We achieve this log-gain over the universal estimates by applying the Keel-Tao theorem along with improved global kernel estimates for microlocalized operators which exploit the geometric assumptions.

Global subelliptic estimates for geometric Kramers-Fokker-Planck operators on closed manifolds

Abstract:In this article we reconsider the proof of subelliptic estimates for Geometric Kramers-Fokker-Planck operators, a class which includes Bismut's hypoelliptic Laplacian, when the base manifold is closed (no boundary). The method is significantly different from the ones proposed by Bismut-Lebeau in [BiLe] and Lebeau in [Leb1] and [Leb2]. As a new result we are able to prove maximal subelliptic estimates with some control of the constants in the two asymptotic regimes of high (b $\rightarrow$ 0) and low (b $\rightarrow$ +$\infty$) friction. After a dyadic partition in the momentum variable, the analysis is essentially local in the position variable, contrary to the microlocal reduction techniques of the previous works. In particular this method will be easier to adapt on manifolds with boundaries. A byproduct of our analysis is the introduction of a very convenient double exponent Sobolev scale associated with globally defined differential operators. Applications of this convenient parameter dependent functional analysis to accurate spectral problems, in particular for Bismut's hypoelliptic Laplacian with all its specific geometry, is deferred to subsequent works.
