Abstract:The competition between scrambling and projective measurements can lead to measurement-induced entanglement phase transitions (MIPT). In this work, we show that the universality class of the MIPT is drastically altered when the system is coupled to a diffusing conserved density. Specifically, we consider a 1+1d random Clifford circuit locally monitored by classically diffusing particles (``measurers''). The resulting diffusive correlations in the measurement density are a relevant perturbation to the usual space-time random MIPT critical point, producing a new universality class for this phase transition. We find ``Griffiths-like'' effects due to rare space-time regions where, e.g., the diffusive measurers have a low or high density, but these are considerably weaker than the Griffiths effects that occur with quenched randomness that produce rare spatial regions with infinite lifetime.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
This paper aims to explore the influence of diffusive conserved density on the universality class of phase transitions in measurement - induced phase transitions (MIPT) in systems with diffusive dynamics. Specifically, the researchers simulate the local measurement process by introducing a 1 + 1 - dimensional stochastic Clifford circuit model with classical diffusive particles, which are called "measurers". The diffusive properties of these measurers lead to spatio - temporal correlations at the measurement locations. As a relevant perturbation to the usual spatio - temporal random MIPT critical points, this correlation gives rise to new universality classes of phase transitions. The key issue in the paper is that when there is diffusive conserved density in the system, the universality class of measurement - induced entanglement phase transitions (MIPT) will change significantly. Through numerical simulations and theoretical analysis, the author shows how this diffusive correlation affects the critical properties of MIPT, including the critical measurement rate, the dynamic exponent, etc., and explores the role of diffusive correlation in the volume - law phase and the area - law phase on both sides of the phase transition. In addition, the paper also discusses the rare - region effect, that is, under certain conditions, some regions in the system may exhibit different behaviors from the whole, and the existence of these regions has an important impact on the long - time dynamics. Overall, this research deepens the understanding of measurement - induced phase transitions in quantum - dynamic systems, especially the characteristics and mechanisms of these phase transitions when the system contains diffusive conserved quantities. This is not only of great significance for the development of theoretical physics, but also provides new perspectives and methods for experimental research.
