Abstract:We prove that the loop space of a quasitoric manifold is homotopy commutative if and only if the underlying polytope is $(\Delta^3)^n$ and the characteristic matrix is equivalent to a matrix of certain type. We also construct for each $n\ge 2$ and a positive integer $k$, a quasitoric manifold $M(k,n)$ over $(\Delta^3)^n$ such that its loop space is homotopy commutative if and only if $k$ is even, where every quasitoric manifold over $\Delta^3$ is equivalent to $\mathbb{C} P^3$ whose loop space is homotopy commutative.

Abstract:Quasitoric manifolds are manifolds that admit an action of the torus that is locally as the standard action of T^n on C^n. It is known that the quotients of such actions are nice manifolds with corners. We prove that such manifolds are equivariantly rigid i.e., that any other manifold that is T^n-homotopy equivalent to a quasitoric manifold, is T^n-homeomorphic to it.

Abstract: We quiver-interpret the classical simplicial theory - including the cosimplex category $\Delta$, Dold-Kan correspondence, and Hochschild homology - as a certain Q-homotopy theory of type $A$. For the cyclic and cubical theories, we proceed analogously. Subsequently, we present far-reaching generalizations, using different types of quivers. Moreover, we explain how to construct certain categories as analogs of $\Delta$, and associate to each a Q-homotopy theory. We provide many examples, including such theories of type $D$.

Abstract:Quoric manifolds are the quaternionic analogue of toric manifolds. They admit a locally nice action of $(S^3)^n$ and the quotient is a manifold with corners. We show that they satisfy equivariant rigidity. More precisely, any locally linear $(S^3)^n$-manifold that it is equivariantly homotopic equivalent to a quoric manifold is equivariantly homeomorphic to it. The proof is given by generalising the methods of used in Coxeter and toric manifolds.

Abstract:We show that the second bounded cohomology of finitely generated free racks is infinite dimensional by constructing rack quasimorphisms using homogenous group quasimorphisms. Similar construction works in the case of free quandles. We show that Rolli's generalization to free products also works in the case of racks.

Abstract:We show that, inside the Shilov boundary of any given Hermitian symmetric space of tube type, there is, up to isomorphism, only one proper domain whose action by its automorphism group is cocompact. This gives a classification of all closed proper manifolds locally modelled on such Shilov boundaries, and provides a positive answer, in the case of flag manifolds admitting a $\Theta$-positive structure, to a rigidity question of Limbeek and Zimmer.

Abstract:We study the homotopy of the connected sum of a manifold with a projective space, viewed as a typical way to stabilize manifolds. In particular, we show a loop homotopy decomposition of a manifold after stabilization by a projective space, and provide concrete examples. To do this, we trace the effect in homotopy theory of surgery on certain product manifolds by showing a loop homotopy decomposition after localization away from the order of the image of the classical $J$-homomorphism.

Abstract:If two conical symplectic resolutions $X\to X_0$ and $X^!\to X_0^!$ are symplectic dual, the cohomology ring $H^*(X)$ and the coordinate ring of $\mathbb{C}^*$-fixed points in $X_0^!$ are expected to be isomorphic as graded algebras. This statement is called Hikita conjecture and it is known that the conjecture holds for some cases. In this paper, we deal with the cohomology of framed moduli spaces over the projective plane and the coordinate ring of $\mathbb{C}^*$- fixed points of $\mathbb{C}^{2n}/((\mathbb{Z}/r\mathbb{Z})\wr S_n) $ and show that these are isomorphic as graded vector spaces.

Generalised doubles and simple homotopy types of high dimensional manifolds

Abstract:We characterise the set of fundamental groups for which there exist $n$-manifolds that are $h$-cobordant (hence homotopy equivalent) but not simple homotopy equivalent, when $n$ is sufficiently large. In particular, for $n \ge 12$ even, we show that examples exist for any finitely presented group $G$ such that the involution on the Whitehead group $Wh(G)$ is nontrivial. This expands on previous work, where we constructed the first examples of even-dimensional manifolds that are homotopy equivalent but not simple homotopy equivalent. Our construction is based on doubles of thickenings, and a key ingredient of the proof is a formula for the Whitehead torsion of a homotopy equivalence between such manifolds.

Abstract:Let $\nu=(n_1,\ldots, n_s), s\ge 2,$ be a sequence of positive integers and let $n=\sum_{1\le j\le s}n_j$. Let $\mathbb CG(\nu)=U(n)/(U(n_1)\times \cdots\times U(n_s))$ be the complex flag manifold. Denote by $P(m,\nu)=P(\mathbb S^m,\mathbb CG(\nu))$ the generalized Dold manifold $\mathbb S^m\times \mathbb CG(\nu)/\langle \theta\rangle $ where $\theta=\alpha\times \sigma$ with $\alpha:\mathbb S^m\to \mathbb S^m$ being the antipodal map and $\sigma:\mathbb CG(\nu)\to \mathbb CG(\nu)$, the complex conjugation. The manifold $P(m,\nu)$ has the structure of a smooth $\mathbb CG(\nu)$-bundle over the real projective space $\mathbb RP^m.$ We determine the additive structure of $H^*(P(m,\nu);R)$ when $R=\mathbb Z$ and its ring structure when $R$ is a commutative ring in which $2$ is invertible. As an application, we determine the additive structure of $K(P(m,\nu))$ almost completely and also obtain partial results on its ring structure. The results for the singular homology are obtained for generalized Dold spaces $P(S,X)=S\times X/\langle \theta\rangle$, where $\theta=\alpha\times \sigma$, $\alpha:S\to S$ is a fixed point free involution and $\sigma:X\to X$ is an involution with $\mathrm{Fix}(\sigma)\ne \emptyset,$ for a much wider class of spaces $S$ and $X$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be 2n-dimensional compact manifold with a locally standard action of a compact torus. The orbit space $X/T$ is a manifold with corners. Suppose that all proper faces of $X/T$ are acyclic. In the paper we study the homological spectral sequence $E^*_{*,*}\Rightarrow H_*(X)$ corresponding to the filtration of $X$ by orbit types. When the free part of the action is not twisted, we describe the whole spectral sequence in terms of homology and combinatorial structure of $X/T$. In this case we describe the kernel and the cokernel of the natural map $k[X/T]/(l.s.o.p.) \to H_*(X)$, where $k[X/T]$ is a face ring of $X/T$ and $(l.s.o.p.)$ is the ideal generated by a linear system of parameters (this ideal appears as the image of $H^{>0}(BT)$ in equivariant cohomology. There exists a natural double grading on $H_*(X)$, which satisfies bigraded Poincare duality. This general theory is applied to compute homology groups of origami toric manifolds with acyclic proper faces of the orbit space. A number of natural generalizations is considered. These include Buchsbaum simplicial complexes and posets. h'- and h''-numbers of simplicial posets appear as the ranks of certain terms in the spectral sequence $E^*_{*,*}$. In particular, using topological argument we show that Buchsbaum posets have nonnegative h''-vectors. The proofs of this paper rely on the theory of cellular sheaves. We associate to a torus space certain sheaves and cosheaves on the underlying simplicial poset, and observe an interesting duality between these objects. This duality seems to be a version of Poincare-Verdier duality between cellular sheaves and cosheaves.

Abstract:Quandle homology was defined from rack homology as the quotient by a subcomplex corresponding to the idempotency, for invariance under the type I Reidemeister move. Similar subcomplexes have been considered for various identities of racks and moves on diagrams. We observe common aspects of these identities and subcomplexes; a quandle identity gives rise to a $2$-cycle, the abelian extension with a $2$-cocycle that vanishes on the $2$-cycle inherits the identity, and a subcomplex is constructed from the identity. Specific identities are examined among small connected quandles.

Homologically area-minimizing surfaces with non-smoothable singularities

Abstract:Let dimensions $d \ge 3$ and codimensions $c \ge 3$ be positive integers, and define the exceptional set $E = \{3, 4\}$. We prove that, for $d \notin E$ with arbitrary $c$, or for $d \in E$ with $c \le d$, for any $d$-dimensional integral homology class $[\Sigma]$ on a compact (not necessarily orientable) $(d+c)$-dimensional smooth manifold $M$, there exist open sets $\Omega_{[\Sigma]}$ in the space of smooth Riemannian metrics such that all area-minimizing integral currents in $[\Sigma]$ are singular for metrics in $\Omega_{[\Sigma]}$. This resolves a conjecture by White regarding the generic regularity of area-minimizing surfaces and provides a sharp dimension-wise answer. As a corollary, we determine the moduli space of area-minimizing currents in the vicinity of any area-minimizing transverse immersion with dimension $d \ge 3$ and codimension $c \ge 3$ that satisfies an angle condition of asymptotically sharp order in $d$. Analogous conclusions apply to mod $2$ area-minimizing surfaces.

Abstract:In previous papers, we used the standard simplices $\Delta^p$ $(p\ge 0)$ endowed with diffeologies having several good properties to introduce the singular complex $S^\dcal(X)$ of a diffeological space $X$. On the other hand, Hector and Christensen-Wu used the standard simplices $\Delta^p_{\rm sub}$ $(p\ge 0)$ endowed with the sub-diffeology of $\rbb^{p+1}$ and the standard affine $p$-spaces $\abb^p$ $(p\ge 0)$ to introduce the singular complexes $S^\dcal_{\rm sub}(X)$ and $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}(X)$, respectively, of a diffeological space $X$. In this paper, we prove that $S^\dcal(X)$ is a fibrant approximation both of $S^\dcal_{\rm sub}(X)$ and $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}(X)$. This result easily implies that the homotopy groups of $S^\dcal_{\rm sub}(X)$ and $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}(X)$ are isomorphic to the smooth homotopy groups of $X$, proving a conjecture of Christensen and Wu. Further, we characterize diffeological principal bundles (i.e., principal bundles in the sense of Iglesias-Zemmour) using the singular functor $S^\dcal_{\rm aff}$. By using these results, we extend characteristic classes for $\dcal$-numerable principal bundles to characteristic classes for diffeological principal bundles.

On integral rigidity in Seiberg-Witten theory

Abstract:We introduce a framework to prove integral rigidity results for the Seiberg-Witten invariants of a closed $4$-manifold $X$ containing a non-separating hypersurface $Y$ satisfying suitable (chain-level) Floer theoretic conditions. As a concrete application, we show that if $X$ has the homology of a four-torus, and it contains a non-separating three-torus, then the sum of all Seiberg-Witten invariants of $X$ is determined in purely cohomological terms. Our results can be interpreted as $(3+1)$-dimensional versions of Donaldson's TQFT approach to the formula of Meng-Taubes, and build upon a subtle interplay between irreducible solutions to the Seiberg-Witten equations on $X$ and reducible ones on $Y$ and its complement. Along the way, we provide a concrete description of the associated graded map (for a suitable filtration) of the map on $\overline{HM}_*$ induced by a negative cobordism between three-manifolds, which might be of independent interest.

Localizations of the categories of $A_\infty$ categories and internal Homs over a ring

Abstract:We show that, over an arbitrary commutative ring, the localizations of the categories of dg categories, of cohomologically unital, of unital and of strictly unital $A_\infty$ categories with respect to the corresponding classes of quasi-equivalences are all equivalent. The result is proven at the $\infty$-categorical level by considering the natural $\infty$-categorical models of the categories above. As an application of the techniques we develop to compare the localizations mentioned above, we provide a new proof of the existence of internal Homs for the homotopy category of dg categories in terms of the category of (strictly) unital $A_\infty$ functors. This yields a complete proof of a claim by Kontsevich and Keller.

Abstract:In this short note we show that the homotopy category of smooth compactifications of smooth algebraic varieties is equivalent to the homotopy category of smooth varieties over a field of characteristic zero. As an application we show that the functor sending a variety to the p-th step of the Hodge filtration of its complex cohomology is representable in the homotopy category of simplicial presheaves on smooth complex varieties. The main motivation are recent applications of homotopy theory to Deligne-Beilinson cohomology theories.

Abstract:The Quillen-McCord theorem (aka Quillen fiber lemma) gives a sufficient condition on a map between classifying spaces of posetal categories to be a homotopy equivalence. Jonathan Ariel Barmak in his paper [<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1005.0538" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1005.0538">arXiv:1005.0538</a>] gives an elementary topological proof and proves a homological version of the theorem. Following his scheme of the proof, we formulate and prove the homological Quillen-McCord theorem, stable with respect to interleaving distances. To formulate the theorem and apply the scheme, we introduce persistence objects as objects in appropriate functor categories, describe a-la barcode decompositions of persistence posets, and prove several results, e.g. order extension principle for objects in Fun(I, Pos) and approximate triviality of left derived functors of approximately trivial objects in Fun(I, R-Mod).
