Abstract:We construct the pro-Nisnevich topology, an analog of the pro-étale topology. We then show that the Nisnevich $\infty$-topos embeds into the pro-Nisnevich $\infty$-topos, and that the pro-Nisnevich $\infty$-topos is locally of homotopy dimension $0$.

Abstract:In this article we propose a definition of a procdh topos. We show that it encodes procdh excision, has bounded homotopy dimension and therefore is hypercomplete and admits a conservative family of fibre functors. We also describe the local rings.

Abstract:This paper contains some results about the topology of $\mathcal{M}_{0,n+1}/\Sigma_n$ and $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n+1}/\Sigma_n$, where $\mathcal{M}_{0,n+1}$ is the moduli space of genus zero Riemann surfaces with marked points and $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n+1}$ is its Deligne-Mumford compactification. We show that $\mathcal{M}_{0,n+1}/\Sigma_n$ and $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n+1}/\Sigma_n$ are not topological manifolds for $n\geq 4$, and they are simply connected for any $n\in\mathbb{N}$. We also present some homology computations: for example we show that the homology of $\mathcal{M}_{0,n+1}/\Sigma_n$ is all torsion and that $\mathcal{M}_{0,p+1}/\Sigma_p$ has no $p$ torsion, where $p$ is a prime. Lastly we compute $H_*(\mathcal{M}_{0,n+1}/\Sigma_n;\mathbb{Z})$ for small values of $n$, proving that $\mathcal{M}_{0,n+1}/\Sigma_n$ is contractible for $n\leq 5$ while $\mathcal{M}_{0,7}/\Sigma_6$ is not.

A pro-cdh topology on formal schemes

Abstract:We introduce a pro-cdh topology on formal schemes and prove that the $\infty$-topos of pro-cdh sheaves of spaces has an optimal bound of homotopy dimension. This remedies a defect for a pro-cdh topology on schemes introduced in [KS23]. As an application, we give a topos-theoretic interpretation of Weibel's vanishing of negative K-theory and motivic cohomology of Elmanto and Morrow.

Spectral Spaces in o-minimal and other NIP theories

Abstract:We study some model-theoretic notions in NIP by means of spectral topology. In the o-minimal setting we relate the o-minimal spectrum with other topological spaces such as the real spectrum and the space of infinitesimal types of Peterzil and Starchenko. In particular, we prove for definably compact groups that the space of closed points is homeomorphic to the space of infinitesimal types. We also prove that with the spectral topology the set of invariant types concentrated in a definably compact set is a normal spectral space whose closed points are the finitely satisfiable types. On the other hand, for arbitrary NIP structures we equip the set of invariant types with a new topology, called the {\em honest topology}. With this topology the set of invariant types is a normal spectral space whose closed points are the finitely satisfiable ones, and the natural retraction from invariant types onto finitely satisfiable types coincides with Simon's $F_M$ retraction.

Abstract:In this manuscript a recent topology on the positive integers generated by the collection of $\{\sigma_n:n\in\mathbb{N}\}$ where $\sigma_n:=\{m: \gcd(n,m)=1\}$ is generalized over integral domains. Some of its topological properties are studied. Properties of this topology on infinite principal ideal domains that are not fields are also explored, and a new topological proof of the infinitude of prime elements is obtained (assuming the set of units is finite or not open), different from those presented in the style of H. Furstenberg. Finally, some problems are proposed.

Abstract:Given the interest in relating the large $N$ limit of SU(N) to groups of area-preserving diffeomorphisms, we consider the topologies of these groups and show that both in terms of homology and homotopy, they are extremely different. Similar conclusions are drawn for other infinite dimensional classical groups.

Abstract:The finite group (or profinite) topology was first introduced for the free group by M. Hall, Jr. and by Reutenauer for free monoids. This is the initial topology defined by all the monoid morphisms from the free monoid into a discrete finite group. The p-adic topology is defined in the same way by replacing “group” by “p-group” in the definition. In this paper we study the properties of these topologies and their connexions with the theory of formal languages.

Abstract:We study the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit of the $ \mathcal{N} $ = 2 supersymmetric gauge theory and topological string theory on certain local toric Calabi-Yau manifolds. In this limit one of the two deformation parameters ϵ1,2 of the Ω background is set to zero and we study the perturbative expansion of the topological amplitudes around the remaining parameter. We derive differential equations from Seiberg-Witten curves and mirror geometries, which determine the higher genus topological amplitudes up to a constant. We show that the higher genus formulae previously obtained from holomorphic anomaly equations and boundary conditions satisfy these differential equations. We also provide a derivation of the holomorphic anomaly equations in the Nekrasov-Shatashvili limit from these differential equations.

Abstract:An algebraization of the notion of topology has been proposed more than seventy years ago in a classical paper by McKinsey and Tarski. However, in McKinsey and Tarski's setting the model theoretical notion of homomorphism does not correspond to the notion of continuity. We notice that the two notions correspond if instead we consider a preorder relation $ \sqsubseteq $ defined by $a \sqsubseteq b$ if $a$ is contained in the topological closure of $b$. A specialization poset is a partially ordered set endowed with a further coarser preorder relation $ \sqsubseteq $. We show that every specialization poset can be embedded in the specialization poset naturally associated to some topological space, where the order relation corresponds to set-theoretical inclusion. Specialization semilattices are defined in an analogous way and the corresponding embedding theorem is proved. The interest of these structures arises from the fact that they also occur in many rather disparate settings, even far removed from topology.

Moreover, under certain conditions, we present topological proofs of the infiniteness of maximal ideals and non-associated irreducible elements, taking advantage of the hyperconnectedness of the Macías topology. Abstract:The aim of this paper is to show that homotopy pro-nilpotent structured ring spectra are TQ-local, where structured ring spectra are described as algebras over a spectral operad O. Here, TQ is short for topological Quillen homology, which is weakly equivalent to O-algebra stabilization. An O-algebra is called homotopy pro-nilpotent if it is equivalent to a limit of nilpotent O-algebras. Our result provides new positive evidence to a conjecture by Francis-Gaisgory on Koszul duality for general operads. As an application, we simultaneously extend the previously known 0-connected and nilpotent TQ-Whitehead theorems to a homotopy pro-nilpotent TQ-Whitehead theorem.

Abstract:For a discrete poset $\mathcal X$, McCord proved that the natural map $|{\mathcal X}|\to {\mathcal X}$, from the order complex to the poset with the Up topology, is a weak homotopy equivalence. Much later, uZivaljević defined the notion of order complex for a topological poset. For a large class of such topological posets we prove the analog of McCord's theorem, namely that the natural map from the order complex to the topological poset with the Up topology is a weak homotopy equivalence. An example is the Grassmann poset of proper non-zero linear subspaces of $\R^{n+1}$. Here, Vassiliev had computed the homotopy type of the order complex. Our theorem allows us to transfer that information (up to weak homotopy type) to the Grassmann poset itself with the Up topology.

Algebraic string topology from the neighborhood of infinity

Abstract:We construct and study an algebraic analogue of the loop coproduct in string topology, also known as the Goresky-Hingston coproduct. Our algebraic setup, which under this analogy takes the place of the complex of chains on the free loop space of a possibly non-simply connected manifold, is the Hochschild chain complex of a smooth $A_{\infty}$-category equipped with a pre-Calabi-Yau structure and a trivialization of a version of the Chern character of its diagonal bimodule. The algebraic analogue of the loop coproduct is part of a more general mapping cone construction, which we describe in terms of the categorical formal punctured neighborhood of infinity associated to the underlying smooth $A_\infty$-category. We use a graphical formalism for $A_\infty$-categories and bimodules to describe explicit models for the operations and homotopies involved. We also compute explicitly the algebraic coproduct in the context of the string topology of spheres.

Abstract:We study the string topology of a closed oriented Riemannian manifold M. We describe a compact moduli space of diagrams, and show how the cellular chain complex of this space gives algebraic operations on the singular chains of the free loop space LM of M. These operations are well-defined on the homology of a quotient of this moduli space, which has the homotopy type of a compactification of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces. In particular, our action of the 0-dimensional homology of the quotient space on the homology of the free loop space of M recovers the Cohen-Godin positive boundary TQFT.

Abstract:For separable $C^*$-algebras $A$ and $B$, we define a topology on the set $[[A, B]]$ consisting of homotopy classes of asymptotic morphisms from $A$ to $B$. Abstract:We present a general result about generating group topologies by pseudo-norms. Namely, we show that if a topology has a base of sets which are closed in a certain sense, then it can be generated by a collection of pseudo-norms such that the balls in these pseudo-norms are also closed in the same sense. The examples include linear and locally convex topologies on vector spaces, locally solid and Fatou topologies on vector lattices and Fréchet-Nikodým topologies on Boolean algebras.

Abstract:This article is concerned with three different homotopy theories of stratified spaces: The one defined by Douteau and Henriques, the one defined by Haine, and the one defined by Nand-Lal. One of the central questions concerning these theories has been how precisely they connect with geometric and topological examples of stratified spaces, such as piecewise linear pseudomanifolds, Whitney stratified spaces, or more recently Ayala, Francis and Tanaka's conically smooth stratified spaces. More precisely, so far, it has been an open question whether there exist (semi)model structures on stratified topological spaces that present these theories, in which such relevant examples of stratified spaces are bifibrant. Here, we prove an affirmative answer to this question. As a consequence, we obtain a model categorical interpretation of a stratified homotopy hypothesis. Specifically, we show that Lurie's stratified singular simplicial set functor induces a Quillen equivalence between the semimodel category of stratified topological spaces presenting Nand-Lal's homotopy theory of stratified spaces and the left Bousfield localization of the Joyal model structure that corresponds to such $\infty$-categories in which every endomorphism is an isomorphism. We then perform a detailed investigation of bifibrant objects in these model structures of stratified spaces, proving a series of detection criteria and illuminating the relationship to Quinn's homotopically stratified spaces.
