Abstract:In this article we propose a definition of a procdh topos. We show that it encodes procdh excision, has bounded homotopy dimension and therefore is hypercomplete and admits a conservative family of fibre functors. We also describe the local rings.

Abstract:We introduce a pro-cdh topology on formal schemes and prove that the $\infty$-topos of pro-cdh sheaves of spaces has an optimal bound of homotopy dimension. This remedies a defect for a pro-cdh topology on schemes introduced in [KS23]. As an application, we give a topos-theoretic interpretation of Weibel's vanishing of negative K-theory and motivic cohomology of Elmanto and Morrow.

Profinite completions of topological operads

Abstract:We show that the particular profinite completion used by Boavida-Horel-Robertson in their study of the Grothendieck-Teichmüller group fits in the framework of profinite completion as a left Quillen functor. More precisely, we construct a model category of profinite up-to-homotopy operads based on dendroidal objects in Quick's model category of profinite spaces and show that the construction of Boavida-Horel-Robertson extends to a left Quillen functor into this model category. We also characterize the underlying $\infty$-category of this model category and obtain a Dwyer-Kan style characterization of the weak equivalences between such profinite up-to-homotopy operads. Since this model category of profinite up-to-homotopy operads is Quillen equivalent to the one considered in our earlier paper "Profinite $\infty$-operads", we obtain analogous results in that setting.

Quotient toposes of discrete dynamical systems

Abstract:This paper gives a classification of classes of discrete dynamical systems (a set equipped with an endofunction) closed under finite limits and small colimits. The conclusion is simple: they bijectively correspond to the ideals of the product poset $\mathbb{N} \times \mathbb{N}$, where the first $\mathbb{N}$ is ordered by the usual order and the second is by the divisibility. Our method is based on a detailed analysis of the behaviors of states, especially non-periodic behaviors, in discrete dynamical systems. Specifically, extending the fundamental quantity, time until entering a loop, to even those states that do not enter a loop plays a crucial role. Our classification is closely related to epimorphisms from $\mathbb{N}$ in the category of monoids. There are countably many injective epimorphisms from $\mathbb{N}$, including $\mathbb{N} \to \mathbb{Z}$. Those injective epimorphisms correspond to the non-periodic behaviors of states of discrete dynamical systems. We discuss this point at the end of the paper. This fun puzzle is motivated by an open problem in topos theory. Lawvere left open problems in topos theory on his webpage, and the first problem is called quotient toposes. The main theorem of this paper provides a non-trivial example of this problem, which is not implied by any known results. This paper also provides a theoretical framework to address the open problem. We define a preorder among the objects of a Grothendieck topos (which we have named generative order), which enables us to reduce calculations of quotient toposes to calculations of objects. Our method is its application to the topos of discrete dynamical systems.

On Postnikov completeness for replete topoi

Abstract:We show that the hypercomplete $\infty$-topos associated with any replete topos is Postnikov complete, positively answering a question of Bhatt and Scholze; this will be deduced from the Milnor sequences for sheaves of spaces on replete topoi that we construct. As a corollary, we generalize a result of Toën on affine stacks.

Abstract:For a variety over certain topological rings $R$, like $\mathbb{Z}_p$ or $\mathbb{C}$, there is a well-studied way to topologize the $R$-points on the variety. In this paper, we generalize this definition to algebraic stacks. For an algebraic stack $\mathfrak{X}$ over many topological rings $R$, we define a topology on the isomorphism classes of $R$-points of $\mathfrak{X}$. We prove expected properties of the resulting topological spaces including functoriality. Then, we extend the definition to the case when $R$ is the ring of adeles of some global field. Finally, we use this last definition to strengthen the local-global compatibility for stacky curves of Bhargava--Poonen to a strong approximation result.

Abstract:In this paper,we define the Scott topology on arbitrary poset by means of S-limit,which extends the Scott topology defined on a dcpo.We will show that the Scott topology defined on a poset or a continuous poset has many similar properties to those of the Scott topology defined on a dcpo or a domain.We also show that the category POSET of posets and Scott continuous maps is not Cartesian closed,thus the categories of FS-posets and B-posets are not Cartesian closed.As a corollary,we show that the category CDCPO of consistent directed complete posets(in short,cdcpos) and Scott continuous maps is a Cartesian closed full subcategory of POSET.

Abstract:An algebraization of the notion of topology has been proposed more than seventy years ago in a classical paper by McKinsey and Tarski. However, in McKinsey and Tarski's setting the model theoretical notion of homomorphism does not correspond to the notion of continuity. We notice that the two notions correspond if instead we consider a preorder relation $ \sqsubseteq $ defined by $a \sqsubseteq b$ if $a$ is contained in the topological closure of $b$. A specialization poset is a partially ordered set endowed with a further coarser preorder relation $ \sqsubseteq $. We show that every specialization poset can be embedded in the specialization poset naturally associated to some topological space, where the order relation corresponds to set-theoretical inclusion. Specialization semilattices are defined in an analogous way and the corresponding embedding theorem is proved. The interest of these structures arises from the fact that they also occur in many rather disparate settings, even far removed from topology.

Abstract:We set the foundations of a theory of Grothendieck $(\infty,2)$-topoi based on the notion of fibrational descent, which axiomatizes both the existence of a classifying object for fibrations internal to an $(\infty,2)$-category as well as the exponentiability of these fibrations. As our main result, we prove a 2-dimensional version of Giraud's theorem which characterizes $(\infty,2)$-topoi as those $(\infty, 2)$-categories that appear as localizations of $\mathfrak{C}\!\operatorname{at}$-valued presheaves in which the localization functor preserves certain partially lax finite limits which we call oriented pullbacks. We develop the basics of a theory of partially lax Kan extensions internal to an $(\infty,2)$-topos, and we show that every $(\infty,2)$-topos admits an internal version of the Yoneda embedding. Our general formalism recovers the theory of categories internal to a $(\infty,1)$-topos (as develop by the second author and Sebastian Wolf) as a full sub-$(\infty,2)$-category of the $(\infty,2)$-category of $(\infty,2)$-topoi. As a technical ingredient, we prove general results on the theory of presentable $(\infty,2)$-categories, including lax cocompletions and 2-dimensional versions of the adjoint functor theorem, which might be of independent interest.

Abstract:We introduce a notion of proper morphism for schematic finite spaces and prove the analog of Grothendieck's finiteness theorem for it. The techniques we employ, which further develop the theory of schematic spaces and proschemes , are ultimately founded on descent properties of flat epimorphisms of rings that are applicable in other situations in order to weaken finite presentation requirements.

Abstract:For a discrete poset $\mathcal X$ McCord proved that the natural map $|{\mathcal X}|\to {\mathcal X}$ from the order complex to the poset equipped with the Up topology is a weak homotopy equivalence. Much later, Zivaljević defined the notion of order complex for a topological poset. For a large class of such topological posets we prove the analog of McCord's theorem, namely that the natural map from the order complex to the topological poset with the Up topology is a weak homotopy equivalence. A familiar topological example is the Grassmann poset of proper non-zero linear subspaces of R^{n+1} partially ordered by inclusion. But our motivation in topological combinatorics is to apply the theorem to posets associated with tropical phased matroids over the tropical phase hyperfield, and in particular to elucidate the tropical version of the MacPhersonian Conjecture. This is explained in Section 2.

Abstract:This paper solves the first problem of the open problems in topos theory posted by William Lawvere, which asks the existence of a Grothendieck topos that has a proper class many quotient topoi. This paper concretely constructs such Grothendieck topoi, including the presheaf topos of the free monoid generated by countably infinite elements $\mathbf{PSh}(M_\omega)$. Utilizing the combinatorics of the classifying topos of the theory of inhabited objects and considering pairing functions, the problem is reduced to making rigid relational structures. This is accomplished by using Kunen's theorem on elementary embeddings in set theory.

Abstract:Topological cyclic homology is a refinement of Connes--Tsygan's cyclic homology which was introduced by Bökstedt--Hsiang--Madsen in 1993 as an approximation to algebraic $K$-theory. There is a trace map from algebraic $K$-theory to topological cyclic homology, and a theorem of Dundas--Goodwillie--McCarthy asserts that this induces an equivalence of relative theories for nilpotent immersions, which gives a way for computing $K$-theory in various situations. The construction of topological cyclic homology is based on genuine equivariant homotopy theory, the use of explicit point-set models, and the elaborate notion of a cyclotomic spectrum. The goal of this paper is to revisit this theory using only homotopy-invariant notions. In particular, we give a new construction of topological cyclic homology. This is based on a new definition of the $\infty$-category of cyclotomic spectra: We define a cyclotomic spectrum to be a spectrum $X$ with $S^1$-action (in the most naive sense) together with $S^1$-equivariant maps $\varphi_p: X\to X^{tC_p}$ for all primes $p$. Here $X^{tC_p}=\mathrm{cofib}(\mathrm{Nm}: X_{hC_p}\to X^{hC_p})$ is the Tate construction. On bounded below spectra, we prove that this agrees with previous definitions. As a consequence, we obtain a new and simple formula for topological cyclic homology. In order to construct the maps $\varphi_p: X\to X^{tC_p}$ in the example of topological Hochschild homology we introduce and study Tate diagonals for spectra and Frobenius homomorphisms of commutative ring spectra. In particular we prove a version of the Segal conjecture for the Tate diagonals and relate these Frobenius homomorphisms to power operations.

Abstract:We introduce and study the proper topological complexity of a given configuration space, a version of the classical invariant for which we require that the algorithm controlling the motion is able to avoid any possible choice of ``unsafe'' area. To make it a homotopy functorial invariant we characterize it as a particular instance of the exterior sectional category of an exterior map, an invariant of the exterior homotopy category which is also deeply analyzed.

Abstract:We define topologically semiperfect (complete, separated, right linear) topological rings and characterize them by equivalent conditions. We show that the endomorphism ring of a module, endowed with the finite topology, is topologically semiperfect if and only if the module is decomposable as an (infinite) direct sum of modules with local endomorphism rings. Then we study structural properties of topologically semiperfect topological rings and prove that their topological Jacobson radicals are strongly closed and the related topological quotient rings are topologically semisimple. For the endomorphism ring of a direct sum of modules with local endomorphism rings, the topological Jacobson radical is described explicitly as the set of all matrices of nonisomorphisms. Furthermore, we prove that, over a topologically semiperfect topological ring, all finitely generated discrete modules have projective covers in the category of modules, while all lattice-finite contramodules have projective covers in both the categories of modules and contramodules. We also show that the topological Jacobson radical of a topologically semiperfect topological ring is equal to the closure of the abstract Jacobson radical, and present a counterexample demonstrating that the topological Jacobson radical can be strictly larger than the abstract one. Finally, we discuss the problem of lifting idempotents modulo the topological Jacobson radical and the structure of projective contramodules for topologically semiperfect topological rings.

Abstract:We extend the Dikranjan-Uspenskij notions of c-compact and h-complete topological group to the morphism level, study the stability properties of the newly defined types of maps, such as closure under direct products, and compare them with their counterparts in topology. We assume Hausdorffness only when our proofs require us to do so, which leads to new results and the affirmation of some facts that were known in a Hausdorff context.
