Abstract:Let (X, tau(1)) and (Y, tau(2)) be two Hausdorff locally convex spaces with continuous duals X, and Y', respectively, L (X, Y) be the space of all continuous linear operators from X into Y, K (X, Y) be the space of all compact operators of L (X, Y). Let WOT and UOT be the weak operator topology and uniform operator topology on K (X, Y), respectively. In this paper, we characterize a full-invariant property of K (X, Y); that is, if the sequence space X has the signed-weak gliding hump property, then each; lambda-multiplier WOT-convergent series Sigma(i) T-i in K(X, Y) must be X-multiplier convergent with respect to all topologies between WOT and UOT if and only if each continuous linear operator T: (X, tau(1)) --> or (lambda(beta), sigma(lambda(beta),lambda)) is compact. Generalized Hyperbolicity, Stability and Expansivity for Operators on Locally Convex Spaces

Abstract:We introduce and study the notions of (generalized) hyperbolicity, topological stability and (uniform) topological expansivity for operators on locally convex spaces. We prove that every generalized hyperbolic operator on a locally convex space has the finite shadowing property. Contrary to what happens in the Banach space setting, hyperbolic operators on Fréchet spaces may fail to have the shadowing property, but we find additional conditions that ensure the validity of the shadowing property. Assuming that the space is sequentially complete, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies the strict periodic shadowing property, but we also show that the hypothesis of sequential completeness is essential. We show that operators with the periodic shadowing property on topological vector spaces have other interesting dynamical behaviors, including the fact that the restriction of such an operator to its chain recurrent set is topologically mixing and Devaney chaotic. We prove that topologically stable operators on locally convex spaces have the finite shadowing property and the strict periodic shadowing property. As a consequence, topologically stable operators on Banach spaces have the shadowing property. Moreover, we prove that generalized hyperbolicity implies topological stability for operators on Banach spaces. We prove that uniformly topologically expansive operators on locally convex spaces are neither Li-Yorke chaotic nor topologically transitive. Finally, we characterize the notion of topological expansivity for weighted shifts on Fréchet sequence spaces. Several examples are provided.

Abstract:This paper aims to provide a thorough characterization of the family of all Cantor-Bendixson derivatives of the spectrum, Browder spectrum, and the Drazin spectrum of bounded linear operators using projections and invariant subspaces. Furthermore, our findings demonstrate that if two commuting operators, R and T , satisfy the conditions that R is Riesz and T is a direct sum of an invertible operator and an operator with an at most countable spectrum, then can also be represented as a direct sum of an invertible operator and an operator with an at most countable spectrum.

Convergence of power sequences of operators via their stability

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the convergence of power sequences and stability of Hilbert space operators, where "convergence" and "stability" refer to weak, strong and norm topologies. It is proved that an operator has a convergent power sequence if and only if it is a (not necessarily orthogonal) direct sum of an identity operator and a stable operator. This reduces the issue of convergence of the power sequence of an operator $T$ to the study of stability of $T$. The question of when the limit of the power sequence is an orthogonal projection is investigated. Among operators sharing this property are hyponormal and contractive ones. In particular, a hyponormal or a contractive operator with no identity part is stable if and only if its power sequence is convergent. In turn, a unitary operator has a weakly convergent power sequence if and only if its singular-continuous part is weakly stable and its singular-discrete part is the identity. Characterizations of the convergence of power sequences and stability of subnormal operators are given in terms of semispectral measures.

Stability relations for Hilbert space operators and a problem of Kaplansky

Abstract:In his monograph on Infinite Abelian Groups, I. Kaplansky raised three ``test problems" concerning their structure and multiplicity. As noted by Azoff, these problems make sense for any category admitting a direct sum operation. Here, we are interested in the operator theoretic version of Kaplansky's second problem which asks: if $A$ and $B$ are operators on an infinite-dimensional, separable Hilbert space and $A \oplus A$ is equivalent to $B \oplus B$ in some (precise) sense, is $A$ equivalent to $B$? We examine this problem under a strengthening of the hypothesis, where a ``primitive" square root $J_2(A)$ of $A\oplus A$ is assumed to be equivalent to the corresponding square root $J_2(B)$ of $B \oplus B$. When ``equivalence" refers to similarity of operators and $A$ is a compact operator, we deduce from this stronger hypothesis that $A$ and $B$ are similar. We exhibit a counterexample (due to J. Bell) of this phenomenon in the setting of unital rings. Also, we exhibit an uncountable family $\{ U_\alpha\}_{\alpha \in \Omega}$ of unitary operators, no two of which are unitarily equivalent, such that each $U_\alpha$ is unitarily equivalent to $J_n(U_\alpha)$, a ``primitive" $n^{th}$ root of $U_\alpha \oplus U_\alpha \oplus \cdots \oplus U_\alpha$.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the time dependent Schrödinger operator with a temporal quasi-periodic perturbation which is some function of class Cℓ for any ℓ ⩾ 100(3n + 2τ + 1), by using the KAM technique, we establish a reduction theorem for the above operator and prove that the invariant tori of the nearly-integrable Hamiltonian system with unbounded small perturbation are linearly stable both for \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\begin{document}$\tilde{d}<d-1$\end{document}d̃<d−1 and the limiting case \documentclass[12pt]{minimal}\begin{document}$\tilde{d}=d-1$\end{document}d̃=d−1.

Abstract:A celebrated classical result states that an operator U on a Banach space is invertible if it is close enough to the identity operator I in the sense that ‖I−U‖<1. Here we show that U actually is invertible under a much weaker condition. As an application we prove new theorems concerning stability offrames (and frame-like decompositions) under perturbation in both Hilbert spaces and Banach spaces.

Abstract:In (Aiena et al., Math. Proc. R. Irish Acad. 122A(2):101–116, 2022), it has been shown that a bounded linear operator , defined on an infinite-dimensional complex Banach space X , for which there exists an injective quasi-nilpotent operator that commutes with it, has a very special structure of the spectrum. In this paper, we show that we have much more: if a such quasi-nilpotent operator does exist, then some of the spectra of T originating from B -Fredholm theory coalesce. Further, the spectral mapping theorem holds for all the B -Weyl spectra. Finally, the generalized version of Weyl type theorems hold for T assuming that T is of polaroid type. Our results apply to the operators that belong to the commutant of Volterra operators.

Abstract:This paper explores the global properties of time-independent systems of operators in the framework of Gelfand-Shilov spaces. Our main results provide both necessary and sufficient conditions for global solvability and global hypoellipticity, based on analysis of the symbols of operators. We also present a class of time-dependent operators whose solvability and hypoellipticity are linked to the same properties of an associated time-independent system, albeit with a loss of regularity for temporal variables.

Abstract:A linear operator $U$ acting boundedly on an infinite-dimensional separable complex Hilbert space $H$ is universal if every linear bounded operator acting on $H$ is similar to a scalar multiple of a restriction of $U$ to one of its invariant subspaces. It turns out that characterizing the lattice of closed invariant subspaces of a universal operator is equivalent to solve the Invariant Subspace Problem for Hilbert spaces. In this paper, we consider invertible weighted hyperbolic composition operators and we prove the universality of the translations by eigenvalues of such operators, acting on Hardy and weighted Bergman spaces. Some consequences for the Banach space case are also discussed.

Abstract:We consider some basic problems associated with quantum mechanics of systems having a time-dependent Hilbert space. We provide a consistent treatment of these systems and address the possibility of describing them in terms of a time-independent Hilbert space. We show that in general the Hamiltonian operator does not represent an observable of the system even if it is a self-adjoint operator. This is related to a hidden geometric aspect of quantum mechanics arising from the presence of an operator-valued gauge potential. We also offer a careful treatment of quantum systems whose Hilbert space is obtained by endowing a time-independent vector space with a time-dependent inner product.

Abstract:In this note, we characterize maximal invariant subspaces for a class of operators. Let T be a Fredholm operator and 1-TT^*∈𝒮_p for some p ≥1. It is shown that if M is an invariant subspace for T such that dim M ⊖ TM <∞, then every maximal invariant subspace of M is of codimension 1 in M . As an immediate consequence, we obtain that if M is a shift invariant subspace of the Bergman space and dim M ⊖ zM <∞, then every maximal invariant subspace of M is of codimension 1 in M . We also apply the result to translation operators and their invariant subspaces.

Abstract:We prove that if a certain entry in the map of the Hadamard-Perron theorem is $T$-periodic in one of the variables, then the stable manifold guaranteed by the Hadamard-Perron theorem is a graph of a $T$-periodic function. As an application, we extend the classical Levinson's result about the occurrence of an attracting closed invariant curve near a stable cycle of a system of autonomous equations under periodic perturbations to hybrid differential equations.

Abstract:We are concerned with the question of the existence of an invariant proper affine subspace for an operator A on a complex Banach space. It turns out that the presence of the number 1 in the spectrum of A or in the spectrum of its adjoint operator is crucial. For instance, an algebraic operator has an invariant proper affine subspace if and only if 1 is its eigenvalue. For an arbitrary operator A , we show that it has an invariant proper hyperplane if and only if 1 is an eigenvalue of . If A is a power bounded operator, then every invariant proper affine subspace is contained in an invariant proper hyperplane, moreover, A has a non-trivial invariant cone.

Abstract:Given a contraction A on a Hilbert space H, an operator T on H is said to be A-invariant if <Tx,x>=<TAx,Ax> for every x in H such that ||Ax||=||x||. In the special case in which both defect indices of A are equal to 1, we show that every A-invariant operator is the compression to H of an unbounded linear transformation that commutes with the minimal unitary dilation of A. This result was proved by Sarason under the additional hypothesis that A is of class C_{00}, leading to an intrinsic characterization of the truncated Toeplitz operators. We also adapt to our more general context other results about truncated Toeplitz operators.

Abstract:In this article, we address a problem posed by F. Bayart regarding the existence of an infinite-dimensional closed vector subspace (excluding the null operator) within the set of supercyclic operators on Banach spaces. We resolve this problem by establishing the existence of the closed subspace. Furthermore, we prove that the set of supercyclic operators on $\ell_1$ contains, up to the null operator, an isometric copy of $\ell_1$.

Abstract:A sufficient condition given by P.H. Bauer and K. Premaratne (1990) for the robust stability of time-varying discrete interval systems is rederived using a diagonal Lyapunov function. This allows extension of the stability condition to a class of nonlinear time-varying systems. When the result is applied to the robust stabilization of time-varying discrete interval systems, it permits the relaxation of a nonnegativity constraint required by the time-invariant result reported by B.
