Abstract:In this paper, we use the modular method together with some standard conjectures to prove that infinitely many equations of the type $x^r+y^r=Dz^p$ do not have any non-trivial primitive integer solutions, where $r>5$ is a fixed prime, whenever $p$ is large enough.

Abstract:This note proves two theorems regarding Fermat-type equation $x^r + y^r = dz^p$ where $r \geq 5$ is a prime. Our main result shows that, for infinitely many integers~$d$, the previous equation has no non-trivial primitive solutions such that $2 \mid x+y$ or $r \mid x+y$, for a set of exponents $p$ of positive density. We use the modular method with a symplectic argument to prove this result.

Abstract:In this paper we find non-negative integer solutions for exponential Diophantine equations of the type $p \cdot 3^x+ p^y=z^2,$ where $p$ is a prime number. We prove that such equation has a unique solution $\displaystyle{(x,y,z)=\left(\log_3(p-2), 0, p-1\right)}$ if $2 \neq p \equiv 2 \pmod 3$ and $(x,y,z)=(0,1,2)$ if $p=2$. We also display the infinite solution set of that equation in the case $p=3$. Finally, a brief discussion of the case $p \equiv 1 \pmod 3$ is made, where we display an equation that does not have a non-negative integer solution and leave some open questions. The proofs are based on the use of the properties of the modular arithmetic.

Abstract:In this article, we study the solutions of certain type over $K$ of the Diophantine equation $x^2= By^p+Cz^p$ with prime exponent $p$, where $B$ is an odd integer and $C$ is either an odd integer or $C=2^r$ for $r \in \mathbb{N}$. Further, we study the non-trivial primitive solutions of the Diophantine equation $x^2= By^p+2^rz^p$ ($r\in {1,2,4,5}$) (resp., $2x^2= By^p+2^rz^p$ with $r \in \mathbb{N}$) with prime exponent $p$, over $K$. We also present several purely local criteria of $K$.

Abstract:In this paper, using a basic algebraic approach, we demonstrate that, if the integers $x,y$ and $z$ are pairwise relatively prime, and $x^p-my^p=zw$ where $m$ is an integer and $p$ is a prime, then we can write $x,y,m,z$ and $w$ as explicit expressions in 7 integers.

Abstract:In this paper we study equation $$(x-dr)^5+\cdots+x^5+\cdots+(x+dr)^5=y^p$$ under the condition $\gcd(x,r)=1$. We present a recipe for proving the non-existence of non-trivial integer solutions of the above equation, and as an application we obtain explicit results for the cases $d=2,3$ (the case $d=1$ was already solved). We also prove an asymptotic result for $d\equiv 1, 7\pmod9$. Our main tools include the modular method, employing Frey curves and their associated modular forms, as well as the symplectic argument.

Abstract:Let p be an odd prime. In this paper, analogs of Wilson?s and Wolstenholme?s theorems on the solution sets S+ = {n ? Z* p | n ? a + b ? ab (mod p)} and S? = {n ? Z* p | n ? a ? b ? ab (mod p)} are given, where Z* p denote a reduced residue system modulo p. We also establish congruences about sum and product of the quadratic residues in S+ or in S? modulo p. Finally, we raise a problem on how to solve Hadamard?s conjecture in the last section.

Abstract:In this paper we classify certain values of p that satisfy the Erdos-Straus conjecture, concerning the decomposition of fractions of the form 4/n as sum of three fractions with numerator identically equal to 1, not according to their modular similarity but to the fact that they share solutions with identical structure. We classify all solutions that satisfy that they are of the form (du,dv,duv) and find characterizations for values of p that were initially difficult to classify, such as p=1009. We also study the solutions (x,y,z) that satisfy that gcd(x,y,z)=x and, finally, we classify all the cases in which any of these two variables coincide with each other.

Abstract:Let $f\in {\mathbb {Q}}[X]$ be a polynomial without multiple roots and $deg(f)\ge 2$. We consider the Diophantine equation $f(x)f(y)=f(z^2)$. For two classes of irreducible quadratic polynomials, this equation has infinitely many nontrivial integer solutions, if the corresponding Pell’s equations satisfy a condition. For a special cubic polynomial, it has a one-parameter family of rational solutions. For $f(X)=X(X^2+X+k)$ and $X(X^2+kX+1)$ there are infinitely many $k \in {\mathbb {Q}}$ such that the title equation has rational solutions.
A multi-Frey approach to Fermat equations of signature $(r,r,p)$

Abstract:In this paper, we give a resolution of the generalized Fermat equations $$x^5 + y^5 = 3 z^n \text{ and } x^{13} + y^{13} = 3 z^n,$$ for all integers $n \ge 2$, and all integers $n \ge 2$ which are not a multiple of $7$, respectively, using the modular method with Frey elliptic curves over totally real fields. The results require a refined application of the multi-Frey technique, which we show to be effective in new ways to reduce the bounds on the exponents $n$. We also give a number of results for the equations $x^5 + y^5 = d z^n$, where $d = 1, 2$, under additional local conditions on the solutions. This includes a result which is reminiscent of the second case of Fermat's Last Theorem, and which uses a new application of level raising at $p$ modulo $p$.

Abstract:In this article, we show that the quartic Diophantine equations $x^4 \pm pqy^4=\pm z^2$ and $ x^4 \pm pq y^4= \pm iz^2$ have only trivial solutions for some primes $p$ and $q$ satisfying conditions $ p \equiv 3 \pmod 8, ~ q \equiv 1 \pmod 8 ~\text{and}~ \displaystyle\legendre{p}{q} = -1$. Here we have found the torsion of the two families of elliptic curves to find the solutions of given Diophantine equations. Moreover, we also calculate the rank of these two families of elliptic curves over the Gaussian field $\mathbb{Q}(i)$.

Abstract:We consider the number of solutions in positive integers $(x,y,z)$ for the purely exponential Diophantine equation $a^x+b^y =c^z$ (with $\gcd(a,b)=1$). Apart from a list of known exceptions, a conjecture published in 2016 claims that this equation has at most one solution in positive integers $x$, $y$, and $z$. We show that this is true for some ranges of $a$, $b$, $c$, for instance, when $1 < a,b < 3600$ and $c<10^{10}$. The conjecture also holds for small pairs $(a,b)$ independent of $c$, where $2 \le a,b \le 10$ with $\gcd(a,b)=1$. We show that the Pillai equation $a^x - b^y = r > 0$ has at most one solution (with a known list of exceptions) when $2 \le a,b \le 3600$. Finally, the primitive case of the Jeśmanowicz conjecture holds when $a \le 10^6$ or when $b \le 10^6$. This work highlights the power of some ideas of Miyazaki and Pink and the usefulness of a theorem by Scott.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate Diophantine equations of the form $T^2=G(\overline{X}),\; \overline{X}=(X_{1},\ldots,X_{m})$, where $m=3$ or $m=4$ and $G$ is specific homogenous quintic form. First, we prove that if $F(x,y,z)=x^2+y^2+az^2+bxy+cyz+dxz\in\Z[x,y,z]$ and $(b-2,4a-d^2,d)\neq (0,0,0)$, then the Diophantine equation $t^2=nxyzF(x,y,z)$ has solution in polynomials $x, y, z, t$ with integer coefficients, without polynomial common factor of positive degree. In case $a=d=0, b=2$ we prove that there are infinitely many primitive integer solutions of the Diophantine equation under consideration. As an application of our result we prove that for each $n\in\Q\setminus\{0\}$ the Diophantine equation \begin{equation*} T^2=n(X_{1}^5+X_{2}^5+X_{3}^5+X_{4}^5) \end{equation*} has a solution in co-prime (non-homogenous) polynomials in two variables with integer coefficients. We also present a method which sometimes allow us to prove the existence of primitive integers solutions of more general quintic Diophantine equation of the form $T^2=aX_{1}^5+bX_{2}^5+cX_{3}^5+dX_{4}^5$, where $a, b, c, d\in\Z$. In particular, we prove that for each $m, n\in\Z\setminus\{0\},$ the Diophantine equation \begin{equation*} T^2=m(X_{1}^5-X_{2}^5)+n^2(X_{3}^5-X_{4}^5) \end{equation*} has a solution in polynomials which are co-prime over $\Z[t]$. Moreover, we show how modification of the presented method can be used in order to prove that for each $n\in\Q\setminus\{0\}$, the Diophantine equation \begin{equation*} t^2=n(X_{1}^5+X_{2}^5-2X_{3}^5) \end{equation*} has a solution in polynomials which are co-prime over $\Z[t]$.

Abstract: In this paper, we consider some hybrid Diophantine equations of addition and multiplication. We first improve a result on new Hilbert-Waring problem. Then we consider the equation \begin{equation} \begin{cases} A+B=C ABC=D^n \end{cases} \end{equation} where $A,B,C,D,n \in\ZZ_{+}$ and $n\geq3$, which may be regarded as a generalization of Fermat's equation $x^n+y^n=z^n$. When $\gcd(A,B,C)=1$, $(1)$ is equivalent to Fermat's equation, which means it has no positive integer solutions. We discuss several cases for $\gcd(A,B,C)=p^k$ where $p$ is an odd prime. In particular, for $k=1$ we prove that $(1)$ has no nonzero integer solutions when $n=3$ and we conjecture that it is also true for any prime $n>3$. Finally, we consider equation $(1)$ in quadratic fields $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{t})$ for $n=3$.

Abstract:This paper contributes to the conjecture of R. Scott and R. Styer which asserts that for any fixed relatively prime positive integers $a,b$ and $c$ greater than 1 there is at most one solution to the equation $a^x+b^y=c^z$ in positive integers $x,y$ and $z$, except for specific cases. The fundamental result proves the conjecture under some congruence condition modulo $c$ on $a$ and $b$. As applications the conjecture is confirmed to be true if $c$ takes some small values including the Fermat primes found so far, and this particularly provides an analytic proof of the celebrated theorem of Scott [R. Scott, On the equations $p^x-b^y=c$ and $a^x+b^y=c^z$, J. Number Theory 44(1993), 153-165] solving the conjecture for $c=2$ in a purely algebraic manner. The method can be generalized for smaller modulus cases, and it turns out that the conjecture holds true for infinitely many specific values of $c$ not being perfect powers. The main novelty is to apply a special type of the $p$-adic analogue to Baker's theory on linear forms in logarithms via a certain divisibility relation arising from the existence of two hypothetical solutions to the equation. The other tools include Baker's theory in the complex case and its non-Archimedean analogue for number fields together with various elementary arguments through rational and quadratic numbers, and extensive computation.
Unique polynomial solution of $m/n=1/x+1/y+1/z$ for $n \equiv b {\rm mod}\, a$ if $(a,m)=1$

Abstract:Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an integer solution of the diophantine equation $m/n=1/x(\lambda)+1/y(\lambda)+1/z(\lambda)$ with $n=b+a\lambda$ are explicitly given for a,b coprime and a not a multiple of m . The solution has the form $x(\lambda)=kn(\lambda)$, $y(\lambda)=n(\lambda)(s+r\lambda)$, $z(\lambda)=(kl/r)(s+r\lambda)$ where parameters $k,l,s,r\in \mathbb{Z}$ obey certain conditions depending on $a,b$. The conditions imply restrictions for some choices of $a,b$ which differ from the ones known in the case $m=4$. E.g., the modulus must be of the form $l(mk-1)$. One can also deduce that primes of the form $1+4K$ are excluded as modulus. Also if $a=p\ne m$ is prime and $b=a+1$, i.e., $n\equiv 1{\rm mod}\, p$, polynomial solutions are shown to be impossible. All results are valid for integers $m \ge 4$.

Abstract:We study the equation $(x-4r)^3 + (x-3r)^3 + (x-2r)^3+(x-r)^3 + x^3 + (x+r)^3+(x+2r)^3 + (x+3r)^3 + (x+4r)^3 = y^p$, which is a natural continuation of previous works carried out by A. Argáez-García and the fourth author (perfect powers that are sums of cubes of a three, five and seven term arithmetic progression). Under the assumptions $0 < r \leq 10^6$, $p \geq 5 $ a prime and $\gcd(x, r) = 1$, we show that solutions must satisfy $xy=0$. Moreover, we study the equation for prime exponents $2$ and $3$ in greater detail. Under the assumptions $r>0$ a positive integer and $\gcd(x, r) = 1$ we show that there are infinitely many solutions for $p=2$ and $p=3$ via explicit constructions using integral points on elliptic curves. We use an amalgamation of methods in computational and algebraic number theory to overcome the increased computational challenge. Most notable is a significant computational efficiency obtained through appealing to Bilu, Hanrot and Voutier's Primitive Divisor Theorem and the method of Chabauty, as well as employing a Thue equation solver earlier on.
