Abstract:In this paper, our focus lies on a fundamental geometric invariant known as Riesz capacity, which holds an essential position in potential theory. We establish the Hadamard variational formula for Riesz capacity of convex bodies. As a meaningful application, we derive a Serrin-type symmetry result for an overdetermined problem.

Abstract:Properties of Riesz capacity are developed with respect to the kernel exponent $p \in (-\infty,n)$, namely that capacity is monotonic as a function of $p$, that its endpoint limits recover the diameter and volume of the set, and that capacity is left-continuous with respect to $p$ and is right-continuous provided (when $p \geq 0$) that an additional hypothesis holds. Left and right continuity properties of the equilibrium measure are obtained too.

Maximizing Riesz capacity ratios: conjectures and theorems

Abstract:A shape optimization program is developed for the ratio of Riesz capacities $\text{Cap}_q(K)/\text{Cap}_p(K)$, where $K$ ranges over compact sets in $\mathbb{R}^n$. In different regions of the $pq$-parameter plane, maximality is conjectured for the ball, the vertices of a regular simplex, or the endpoints of an interval. These cases are separated by a symmetry-breaking transition region where the shape of maximizers remains unclear. On the boundary of $pq$-parameter space one encounters existing theorems and conjectures, including: Watanabe's theorem minimizing Riesz capacity for given volume, the classical isodiametric theorem that maximizes volume for given diameter, Szegő's isodiametric theorem maximizing Newtonian capacity for given diameter, and the still-open isodiametric conjecture for Riesz capacity. The first quadrant of parameter space contains Pólya and Szegő's conjecture on maximizing Newtonian over logarithmic capacity for planar sets. The maximal shape for each of these scenarios is known or conjectured to be the ball. In the third quadrant, where both $p$ and $q$ are negative, the maximizers are quite different: when one of the parameters is $-\infty$ and the other is suitably negative, maximality is proved for the vertices of a regular simplex or endpoints of an interval. Much more is proved in dimensions $1$ and $2$, where for large regions of the third quadrant, maximizers are shown to consist of the vertices of intervals or equilateral triangles.

Abstract:We consider a generalization of the Riesz operator in $R^d$ and obtain estimates for its norm and for related capacities via the modified Wolff potential. These estimates are based on the certain version of $T1$ theorem for Calderón-Zygmund operators in metric spaces. We extend two versions of Calderón-Zygmund capacities in $R^d$ to metric spaces and establish their equivalence (under certain conditions). As an application, we extend the known relations between $s$-Riesz capacities, $0<s<d$, and the capacities in Nonlinear Potential Theory, to the case $s=0$.

Abstract:We consider different notions of capacity related to the parabolic $p$-Laplace equation. Our focus is on a variational notion, which is consistent in the full range $1<p<\infty$. For such a notion we show some basic properties as well as its connection to other notions of capacity presented in the literature, and to a certain parabolic version of the Hausdorff measure. As applications, we use the introduced variational notion of capacity to study polar sets and removability results for supersolutions.

Abstract:We examine the relations between different capacities in the setting of a metric measure space. First, we prove a comparability result for the Riesz -capacity and the relative Hajłasz -capacity, for $1<p<\infty $ and , under a suitable kernel estimate related to the Riesz potential. Then we show that in geodesic spaces the corresponding capacity density conditions are equivalent even without assuming the kernel estimate. In the last part of the paper, we compare the relative Hajłasz (1, p )-capacity to the relative variational p -capacity.</p

Abstract:SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, Volume 84, Issue 2, Page 317-337, April 2024. A method for computing the Riesz [math]-capacity, [math], of a general set [math] is given. The method is based on simulations of isotropic [math]-stable motion paths in [math]-dimensions. The familiar walk-on-spheres method, often utilized for simulating Brownian motion, is modified to a novel walk-in-and-out-of-balls method adapted for modeling the stable path process on the exterior of regions "probed" by this type of generalized random walk. It accounts for the propensity of this class of random walk to jump through boundaries because of the path discontinuity. This method allows for the computationally efficient simulation of hitting locations of stable paths launched from the exterior of probed sets. Reliable methods of computing capacity from these locations are given, along with non-standard confidence intervals. Illustrative calculations are performed for representative types of sets [math], where both [math] and [math] are varied.

This result implies that coisotropic Ekeland–Hofer–Zehnder capacity can measure the symmetry of convex bodies with respected to in some sense. Next, we talk about the behavior of coisotropic Ekeland–Hofer–Zehnder capacity of convex domains in the classical phase space with respect to symplectic p -products.

Abstract:We study the capacity of entanglement as an alternative to entanglement entropies in estimating the degree of entanglement of quantum bipartite systems over fermionic Gaussian states. In particular, we derive the exact and asymptotic formulas of average capacity of two different cases -- with and without particle number constraints. For the later case, the obtained formulas generalize some partial results of average capacity in the literature. The key ingredient in deriving the results is a set of new tools for simplifying finite summations developed very recently in the study of entanglement entropy of fermionic Gaussian states.

Abstract:The decay rate of Riesz capacity as the exponent increases to the dimension of the set is shown to yield Hausdorff measure. The result applies to strongly rectifiable sets, and so in particular to submanifolds of Euclidean space. For strictly self-similar fractals, a one-sided decay estimate is found. Along the way, a purely measure theoretic proof is given for subadditivity of the reciprocal of Riesz energy.

Abstract:An important concept of convexificators has been extended to Hadamard manifolds in this paper. The mean value theorem for convexificators on the Hadamard manifold has also been derived. Monotonicity of the bounded convexificators has been discussed and an important characterization for the bounded convexificators to be $\partial_{*}^{*}$-geodesic convexity has been derived. Furthermore, a vector variational inequalities problem using convexificators on Hadamard manifold has been considered. In addition, the necessary and sufficient conditions for vector optimization problems in terms of Stampacchia and Minty type partial vector variational inequality problem ($\partial_{*}^{*}$-VVIP) have been derived.

Abstract:In a seminal paper "Volumen und Oberfläche" (1903), Minkowski introduced the basic notion of mixed volumes and the corresponding inequalities that lie at the heart of convex geometry. The fundamental importance of characterizing the extremals of these inequalities was already emphasized by Minkowski himself, but has to date only been resolved in special cases. In this paper, we completely settle the extremals of Minkowski's quadratic inequality, confirming a conjecture of R. Schneider. Our proof is based on the representation of mixed volumes of arbitrary convex bodies as Dirichlet forms associated to certain highly degenerate elliptic operators. A key ingredient of the proof is a quantitative rigidity property associated to these operators.

Capacity of entanglement and volume law

Abstract:We investigate various aspects of capacity of entanglement in certain setups whose entanglement entropy becomes extensive and obeys a volume law. In particular, considering geometric decomposition of the Hilbert space, we study this measure both in the vacuum state of a family of non-local scalar theories and also in the squeezed states of a local scalar theory. We also evaluate field space capacity of entanglement between interacting scalar field theories. We present both analytical and numerical evidences for the volume law scaling of this quantity in different setups and discuss how these results are consistent with the behavior of other entanglement measures including Renyi entropies. Our study reveals some generic properties of the capacity of entanglement and the corresponding reduced density matrix in the specific regimes of the parameter space. Finally, by comparing entanglement entropy and capacity of entanglement, we discuss some implications of our results on the existence of consistent holographic duals for the models in question.

Usher proved the so-called sharp energy-capacity inequality between Hofer-Zehnder capacity and the displacement energy for closed symplectic manifolds. In this paper, we extend the sharp energy-capacity inequality to convex symplectic manifolds.

Abstract:The type $A$ Kostant partition function is an important combinatorial object with various applications: it counts integer flows on the complete directed graph, computes Hilbert series of spaces of diagonal harmonics, and can be used to compute weight and tensor product multiplicities of representations. In this paper we study asymptotics of the Kostant partition function, improving on various previously known lower bounds and settling conjectures of O'Neill and Yip. Our methods build upon recent results and techniques of Brändén-Leake-Pak, who used Lorentzian polynomials and Gurvits' capacity method to bound the number of lattice points of transportation and flow polytopes. Finally, we also give new two-sided bounds using the Lidskii formulas from subdivisions of flow polytopes.
