Abstract:We construct new examples of free curve arrangements in the complex projective plane using point-line operators recently defined by the second author. In particular, we construct a new example of a conic-line arrangement with ordinary quasi-homogeneous singularities that has non-trivial monodromy.

Abstract:We define a combinatorial object that can be associated with any conic-line arrangement with ordinary quasi-homogeneous singularities, which we call the combinatorial Poincaré polynomial. We prove a Terao-type factorization statement on the splitting of such a polynomial over the rationals under the assumption that our conic-line arrangements are free. Then we focus on the so-called $d$-arrangements in the plane. In particular, we provide a combinatorial constraint for free $d$-arrangements admitting ordinary quasi-homogeneous singularities.

Abstract:Explicit construction of harmonic maps from R 1,1 to classical semisimple Lie groups SL(N,R),SU(p,q),Sp(p,q),SO(p,q) by using Darboux transformation are given. A new parallel transport was obtained from a known one via a purely algebraic algorithm and a new harmonic map is given.
Construction of free curves by adding lines to a given curve

Abstract:In the present note we construct new families of free plane curves starting from a curve $C$ and adding high order inflectional tangent lines of $C$, lines joining the singularities of the curve $C$, or lines in the tangent cone of some singularities of $C$. These lines $L$ have in common that the intersection $C \cap L$ consists of a small number of points. We introduce the notion of a supersolvable plane curve and conjecture that such curves are always free, as in the known case of line arrangements. Some evidence for this conjecture is given as well, both in terms of a general result in the case of quasi homogeneous singularities and in terms of specific examples. We construct a new example of maximizing curve in degree 8 and the first and unique known example of maximizing curve in degree 9. In the final section, we use a stronger version of a result due to Schenck, Terao and Yoshinaga to construct families of free conic-line arrangements by adding lines to the conic-line arrangements of maximal Tjurina number recently classified by V. Beorchia and R. M. Miró-Roig in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2303.04665" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2303.04665">arXiv:2303.04665</a>.

Abstract:We study the combinatorics of pseudoline arrangements in the real projective plane. Our focus lies on two classes of arrangements: simplicial arrangements and arrangements whose characteristic polynomials have only real roots. We derive inequalities involving the $t$-vectors of the arrangements in consideration. As application, we obtain some finiteness and classification results. Moreover, we are able to prove the Dirac Motzkin Conjecture for real pseudoline arrangements whose charateristic polynomials split over $\mathbb{R}$.

Abstract:In the present note we focus on conic line arrangements in the plane with quasihomogeneous ordinary singularities from the perspective of weak Ziegler pairs. The foundations of this article come from an active area of research devoted to the freeness and nearly freeness of curve arrangements in the complex projective plane and the socalled Numerical Terao s Conjecture. This conjecture boils down to a very fundamental problem in combinatorial algebraic geometry, namely whether the weak combinatorics of a given arrangement determines the freeness.

Abstract:In this paper we focus on various aspects of singular complex plane curves, mostly in the context of their homological properties and the associated combinatorial structures. We formulate some challenging open problems that can point to new directions in research, for example by introducing weak Ziegler pairs of curve arrangements. Moreover, we construct new examples of different Ziegler pairs, in both the classical and the weak sense, and present new geometric approaches to construction problems of singular plane curves.

Abstract:In the present paper, we revisit the geometry of smooth plane quartics and their bitangents from several perspectives. First, we study in detail the weak combinatorics of arrangements of bitangents associated with highly symmetric quartic curves. We consider quartic curves from the point of view of the order of their automorphism groups, in order to establish a lower bound on the number of quadruple intersection points for arrangements of bitangents associated with smooth plane quartics, which are smooth members of Ciani's pencil. We then construct new examples of $3$-syzygy reduced plane curves using smooth plane quartics and their bitangents.

Abstract:We classify moduli spaces of arrangements of 10 lines with quadruple points. We show that moduli spaces of arrangements of 10 lines with quadruple points may consist of more than 2 disconnected components, namely 3 or 4 distinct points. We also present defining equations to those arrangements whose moduli spaces are still reducible after taking quotients of complex conjugations.

Abstract:In their solution to the orchard-planting problem, Green and Tao established a structure theorem which proves that in a line arrangement in the real projective plane with few double points, most lines are tangent to the dual curve of a cubic curve. We provide geometric arguments to prove that in the case of a simplicial arrangement, the aforementioned cubic curve cannot be irreducible. It follows that Grünbaum's conjectural asymptotic classification of simplicial arrangements holds under the additional hypothesis of a linear bound on the number of double points.

Construction of real algebraic functions with prescribed preimages

Abstract:Nash and Tognoli show that smooth closed manifolds can be the zero sets of some real polynomial maps and non-singular. The canonical projections of spheres naturally embedded in the $1$-dimensional higher Euclidean spaces and some natural functions on projective spaces, Lie groups and their quotient spaces are important examples of real algebraic functions being also Morse. In general, it is difficult to construct such examples of maps and the structures of the manifolds. In addition the maps are hard to understand globally. We construct examples by answering to a problem from singularity theory and differential topology. It asks whether we can reconstruct nice smooth functions with prescribed preimages. We have previously given an answer with real algebraic functions. This previous result is one of our key ingredients.

Abstract:The operator $\Lambda_{\{2\},\{3\}}$ acting on line arrangements is defined by associating to a line arrangement \mathcal{A}, the line arrangement which is the union of the lines containing exactly three points among the double points of \mathcal{A}. We say that six lines not tangent to a conic form an unassuming arrangement if the singularities of their union are only double points, but the dual line arrangement has six triple points, six 5-points and 27 double points. The moduli space of unassuming arrangements is the union of a point and a line. The image by the operator $\Lambda_{\{2\},\{3\}}$ of an unassuming arrangement is again an unassuming arrangement. We study the dynamics of the operator $\Lambda_{\{2\},\{3\}}$ on these arrangements and we obtain that the periodic arrangements are related to the Ceva arrangements of lines.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct an infinite series of line arrangements in characteristic two, each featuring only triple intersection points. This finding challenges the existing conjecture that suggests the existence of only a finite number of such arrangements, regardless of the characteristic. Leveraging the theory of matroids and employing computer algebra software, we rigorously examine the existence and non-existence across various characteristics of line arrangements with up to 19 lines maximizing the number of triple intersection points.

Abstract:In a recent paper, after introducing the notion of plus-one generated hyperplane arrangements, Takuro Abe has shown that if we add (resp. delete) a line to (resp. from) a free line arrangement, then the resulting line arrangement is either free or plus-one generated. In this note we prove that the same properties hold when we replace the line arrangement by a free curve and add (resp. delete) a line. The proof uses a new version of a key result due originally to H. Schenck, H. Terao and M. Yoshinaga, in which no quasi homogeneity assumption is needed. Two conjectures about the Tjurina number of a union of two plane curve singularities are also stated. As a geometric application, we show that, under a mild numerical condition, the projective closure of a contractible, irreducible affine plane curve is either free or plus-one generated, using a deep result due to U. Walther.
