Abstract:In this note we focus on combinatorial aspects of plus-one generated line arrangements. We provide combinatorial constraints on such arrangements and we present new examples of plus-one generated arrangements constructed by using classical Klein and Wiman reflection arrangements, and we detect, among all known sporadic simplicial arrangements up to $27$ lines, exactly $9$ arrangements that are minimal plus-one generated.

Abstract:We introduce a new class of arrangements of hyperplanes, called (strictly) plus-one generated arrangements, from algebraic point of view. Plus-one generatedness is close to freeness, i.e., plus-one generated arrangements have their logarithmic derivation modules generated by dimension plus one elements, with relations containing one linear form coefficient. We show that strictly plus-one generated arrangements can be obtained if we delete a hyperplane from free arrangements. We show a relative freeness criterion in terms of plus-one generatedness. In particular, for plane arrangements, we show that a free arrangement is in fact surrounded by free or strictly plus-one generated arrangements. We also give several applications.

In a recent paper, after introducing the notion of plus-one generated hyperplane arrangements, Takuro Abe has shown that if we add (respectively, delete) a line to (respectively, from) a free line arrangement, then the resulting line arrangement is either free or plus-one generated. In this paper, we prove that the same properties hold when we replace the line arrangement by a free curve and add (respectively, delete) a line. The proof uses a new version of a key result due originally to H. Schenck, H. Terao and M. Yoshinaga, in which no quasi-homogeneity assumption is needed. Two conjectures about the Tjurina number of a union of two plane curve singularities are also stated. As a geometric application, we show that, under a mild numerical condition, the projective closure of a contractible, irreducible affine plane curve is either free or plus-one generated, using a deep result due to U. Walther.

Abstract:We define the minimal plus-one generated curves and prove a result explaining why they are the closest relatives of the free curves, after the nearly free curves. Then we look at the projective closures of the general and of the special fibers of some Briançon-type polynomials constructed by E. Artal Bartolo, Pi. Cassou-Noguès and I. Luengo Velasco. They yield new examples of free, nearly free or minimal plus-one generated curves, as well as counter-examples to the conjecture saying that a supersolvable curve is free. In the final section we give a characterization of plus-one generated curves in terms of eigenscheme ideals, similar to the characterization of free curves given by R. Di Gennaro, G. Ilardi, R.M. Miró-Roig, H. Schenck and J. Vallès in a recent paper. Then we apply this result to the construction of minimal plus-one generated curves obtained by putting together at least two members in a pencil of curves related to Briançon-type polynomials.

Abstract:We study the combinatorics of pseudoline arrangements in the real projective plane. Our focus lies on two classes of arrangements: simplicial arrangements and arrangements whose characteristic polynomials have only real roots. We derive inequalities involving the $t$-vectors of the arrangements in consideration. As application, we obtain some finiteness and classification results. Moreover, we are able to prove the Dirac Motzkin Conjecture for real pseudoline arrangements whose charateristic polynomials split over $\mathbb{R}$.

Abstract:Günter Ziegler has shown in 1989 that some homological invariants associated with the free resolutions of Jacobian ideals of line arrangements are not determined by combinatorics. His classical example involves hexagons inscribed in conics. Independently, Sergey Yuzvinsky has arrived in 1993 at the same type of line arrangements in order to show that formality is not determined by the combinatorics. In this note, we look into the geometry of such line arrangements and find out an unexpected relation to the classical Pascal's theorem. Our results give information on the minimal degree of a Jacobian syzygy and on the formality of such hexagonal line arrangements in general, without an explicit choice for the six vertices of the hexagon.

Abstract:Abstract We present various results about the combinatorial properties of line arrangements in terms of the Chern numbers of the corresponding log surfaces. This resembles the study of the geography of surfaces of general type. We prove some new results about the distribution of Chern slopes, we show a connection between their accumulation points and the accumulation points of linear H -constants on the plane, and we conclude with two open problems in relation to geography over Q and over C.

Abstract:We classify moduli spaces of arrangements of 10 lines with quadruple points. We show that moduli spaces of arrangements of 10 lines with quadruple points may consist of more than 2 disconnected components, namely 3 or 4 distinct points. We also present defining equations to those arrangements whose moduli spaces are still reducible after taking quotients of complex conjugations.

Abstract:Consider a complex projective space with its Fubini-Study metric. We study certain one parameter deformations of this metric on the complement of an arrangement (= finite union of hyperplanes) whose Levi-Civita connection is of Dunkl type. Interesting examples are obtained from the arrangements defined by finite complex reflection groups. We determine a parameter interval for which the metric is locally of Fubini-Study type, flat, or complex-hyperbolic. We find a finite subset of this interval for which we get a complete orbifold or at least a Zariski open subset thereof, and we analyze these cases in some detail (e.g., we determine their orbifold fundamental group). In this set-up, the principal results of Deligne-Mostow on the Lauricella hypergeometric differential equation and work of Barthel-Hirzebruch-Höfer on arrangements in a projective plane appear as special cases. Along the way we produce in a geometric manner all the pairs of complex reflection groups with isomorphic discriminants, thus providing a uniform approach to work of Orlik-Solomon.

Abstract:In their solution to the orchard-planting problem, Green and Tao established a structure theorem which proves that in a line arrangement in the real projective plane with few double points, most lines are tangent to the dual curve of a cubic curve. We provide geometric arguments to prove that in the case of a simplicial arrangement, the aforementioned cubic curve cannot be irreducible. It follows that Grünbaum's conjectural asymptotic classification of simplicial arrangements holds under the additional hypothesis of a linear bound on the number of double points.

Abstract:We give a geometric model for the category of coherent sheaves over the weighted projective line of type $(p,q)$ in terms of an annulus with marked points on its boundary. We establish a bijection between indecomposable sheaves over the weighted projective line and certain homotopy classes of oriented curves in the annulus, and prove that the dimension of extension group between indecomposable sheaves equals to the positive intersection number between the corresponding curves. By using the geometric model, we provide a combinatorial description for the titling graph of tilting bundles, which is composed by quadrilaterals (or degenerated to a line). Moreover, we obtain that the automorphism group of the coherent sheaf category is isomorphic to the mapping class group of the marked annulus, and show the compatibility of their actions on the tilting graph of coherent sheaves and on the triangulation of the geometric model respectively. A geometric description of the perpendicular category with respect to an exceptional sheaf is presented at the end of the paper.

Abstract:We construct a smooth projective algebraic variety $X_{\Psi}$ that compactifies an equivariant vector subbundle of the cotangent bundle of the flag variety of $\mathop{GL} ( n )$ (corresponding to a root ideal $\Psi$). The variety $X_\Psi$ carries natural class of line bundles whose spaces of global sections realize the Catalan functions defined in Chen-Haiman [thesis, UCBerkeley] and studied in Blasiak-Morse-Pun-Summers [J. Amer. Math. Soc. (2019), Invent. Math. (2024)]. We prove the vanishing conjectures of Chen-Haiman and (the tame cases of these of) Blasiak-Morse-Pun, as well as the monotonicity conjectures of Shimozono-Weyman [Electronic J. Combin. (2000)] using the geometry of $X_\Psi$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth projective manifold with $\dim _{\mathbb{C}}X=n$ . We show that if a line bundle $L$ is $(n-1)$ -ample, then it is $(n-1)$ -positive. This is a partial converse to the Andreotti–Grauert theorem. As an application, we show that a projective manifold $X$ is uniruled if and only if there exists a Hermitian metric $\unicode[STIX]{x1D714}$ on $X$ such that its Ricci curvature $\text{Ric}(\unicode[STIX]{x1D714})$ has at least one positive eigenvalue everywhere.

Abstract:The secant varieties to flag varieties $G/P$ are central objects in Tensor Decomposition. The natural group action they inherit allows one to reduce the study of local geometric properties to $G$--orbit representatives. The case of secant varieties of lines is particularly elegant as their $G$--orbits are induced by $P$--orbits in both $G/P$ and $\mathfrak{g}/\mathfrak{p}$. Parabolic orbits are a classical problem in Representation Theory, well understood for generalised Grassmannians. Exploiting such orbits, we provide a complete and uniform description of both the identifiable and singular loci of the secant variety of lines to any cominuscule variety, as well as of the second Terracini locus. We also show that non-cominuscule varieties behave differently.
