Abstract:Lapid and Mao conjectured Ichino-Ikeda type formula of Whittaker periods for any quasi-split reductive groups and metaplectic groups. In this paper, we prove this formula for any irreducible cuspidal globally generic automorphic representation of quasi-split unitary groups.

Abstract:It is the main objective of this paper to show a vanishing result for cuspidal cohomology of arithmetic groups in classical groups~$G$ defined over some number field~$k$.Our approach relies on the fact that cuspidal automorphic forms are nonsingular in the sense of Howe. This result puts a strong constraint on the (archimedean components of) irreducible cuspidal automorphic representations of $G$that can possibly contribute to the cuspidal cohomology. Combining this with the classification of Vogan-Zuckerman of unitary representations with nonzero cohomologyprovides a constant $r_0(G/k)$, only depending on $G/k$, below which the cuspidal cohomology vanishes. We will give a formula for this constant for each classical group of type (I) in the classification scheme due to Weil. We conclude with making this result explicit for some split classical groups over a totally real algebraic number field.

Abstract:In this article, we study the Iwasawa theory for cuspidal automorphic representations of $\mathrm{GL}(n)\times\mathrm{GL}(n+1)$ over CM fields along anticyclotomic directions, in the framework of the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for unitary groups. We prove one-side divisibility of the corresponding Iwasawa main conjecture: when the global root number is $1$, the $p$-adic $L$-function belongs to the characteristic ideal of the Iwasawa Bloch-Kato Selmer group; when the global root number is $-1$, the square of the characteristic ideal of a certain Iwasawa module is contained in the characteristic ideal of the torsion part of the Iwasawa Bloch-Kato Selmer group (analogous to Perrin-Riou's Heegner point main conjecture).

Abstract:We state and prove a formula for the Whittaker-Shintani functions associated to Fourier-Jacobi models for p-adic unitary groups and general linear groups. These generalized spherical functions play a fundamental role in the proof of the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for Fourier-Jacobi models. As an application we prove the unramified Ichino-Ikeda conjecture.

Abstract:In this article, we compute the Gan-Gross-Prasad period integral of Klingen Eisenstein series over the unitary group $\mathrm{U}(m+1, n+1)$ with a cuspidal automorphic form over $\mathrm{U}(m+1, n)$, and show that it is related to certain special Rankin-Selberg $L$-values. We $p$-adically interpolate these Gan-Gross-Prasad period integrals as the Klingen Eisenstein series and the cuspidal automorphic form vary in Hida families. As a byproduct, we obtain a $p$-adic $L$-function of Rankin-Selberg type over $\mathrm{U}(m,n) \times \mathrm{U}(m+1, n)$. The ultimate motivation is to show the $p$-primitive property of Klingen Eisenstein series over unitary groups, by computing such Gan-Gross-Prasad period integrals, and this article is a starting point of this project. The $p$-primitivity of Eisenstein series is an essential property in the automorphic method in Iwasawa theory.

Zeta functions and nonvanishing theorems for toric periods on $\mathrm{GL}_2$

Abstract:Let $F$ be a number field and $D$ a quaternion algebra over $F$. Take a cuspidal automorphic representation $\pi$ of $D_\mathbb{A}^\times$ with trivial central cahracter. We study the zeta functions with period integrals on $\pi$ for the perhomogeneous vector space $(D^\times\times D^\times\times\mathrm{GL}_2, D\oplus D)$. We show their meromorphic continuation and functional equation, determine the location and orders of possible poles and compute the residue. Arguing along the theory of Saito and computing unramified local factors, the explicit formula of the zeta functions is obtained. Counting the order of possible poles of this explicit formula, we show that if $L(1/2, \pi)\neq0$, there are infinitely many quadratic extension $E$ of $F$ which embeds in $D$, such that $\pi$ has nonvanishing toric period with respect to $E$.

Abstract:In this paper, under some regularity conditions, we prove a period relation between the Betti--Whittaker periods associated to a regular algebraic cuspidal automorphic representation of ${\rm GL}_n(\mathbb{A})$ and its contragredient. As a consequence, we obtain the trivialness of the relative period associated to a regular algebraic cuspidal automorphic representation of ${\rm GL}_{2n}(\mathbb{A})$ of orthogonal type, which implies the algebraicity of the ratios of successive critical $L$-values for ${\rm GSpin}_{2n}^* \times {\rm GL}_{n'}$ by the result of Harder and Raghuram.

Abstract:Our primary goal in this article is to study the Iwasawa theory for semi-ordinary families of automorphic forms on $\mathrm{GL}_2\times\mathrm{Res}_{K/\mathbb{Q}}\mathrm{GL}_1$, where $K$ is an imaginary quadratic field where the prime $p$ is inert. We prove divisibility results towards Iwasawa main conjectures in this context, utilizing the optimized signed factorization procedure for Perrin-Riou functionals and Beilinson--Flach elements for a family of Rankin--Selberg products of $p$-ordinary forms with a fixed $p$-non-ordinary modular form. The optimality enables an effective control on the $\mu$-invariants of Selmer groups and $p$-adic $L$-functions as the modular forms vary in families, which is crucial for our patching argument to establish one divisibility in an Iwasawa main conjecture in three variables.

Abstract:We prove the Gan-Gross-Prasad conjecture for Fourier-Jacobi periods on unitary groups and an Ichino-Ikeda type refinement. Our strategy is based on the comparison of relative trace formulae formulated by Liu. We develop the full coarse spectral and geometric expansions of the relative trace formulae, and compute relevant spectral terms via zeta integrals and truncated periods. We compare all geometric terms and characterize the local geometric comparison in terms of spectral data.

A local twisted trace formula for Whittaker induction of coregular symmetric pairs: the geometric side

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the geometric expansion of a local twisted trace formula for the Whittaker induction of any symmetric pairs that are coregular. This generalizes the local (twisted) trace formula for reductive groups proved by Arthur \cite{A91} and Waldspurger \cite{WalFTLtordue}. We also prove a formula for the regular germs of quasi-characters associated to strongly cuspidal functions in terms of certain weighted orbital integrals. As a consequence of our trace formula and the formula for regular germs of quasi-characters, we prove a simple local trace formula of those models for strongly cuspidal test functions which implies a multiplicity formula for these models. We also present various applications of our trace formula and multiplicity formula, including a necessary condition for a discrete L-packet to contain a representation with a unitary Shalika model (resp. a Galois model for classical groups) in terms of the associated Langlands parameter, and we also compute the summation of the corresponding multiplicities for certain discrete L-packets.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a number field and $D$ a quaternion algebra over $F$. Take a cuspidal automorphic representation $\pi$ of $D_{\mathbb{A}}^\times$ with trivial central character and a cusp form $\phi$ in $\pi$. Using the prehomogeneous zeta function, we find an explicit mean value of the toric periods of $\phi$ with respect to quadratic algebras over $F$. The result can also be written as a mean value formula for the central values of automorphic $L$-functions twisted by quadratic characters.

Abstract:We investigate the Gross–Prasad conjecture and its refinement for the Bessel periods in the case of . In particular, by combining several theta correspondences, we prove the Ichino–Ikeda-type formula for any tempered irreducible cuspidal automorphic representation. As a corollary of our formula, we prove an explicit formula relating certain weighted averages of Fourier coefficients of holomorphic Siegel cusp forms of degree two, which are Hecke eigenforms, to central special values of -functions. The formula is regarded as a natural generalization of the Böcherer conjecture to the non-trivial toroidal character case.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider how to express an Iwahori–Whittaker function through Demazure characters. Under some interesting combinatorial conditions, we obtain an explicit formula and thereby a generalization of the Casselman–Shalika formula. Under the same conditions, we compute the transition matrix between two natural bases for the space of Iwahori fixed vectors of an induced representation of a $p$-adic group; this corrects a result of Bump–Nakasuji.

Abstract:Let $p>3$ be a prime. In this paper we develop a new kind of anticyclotomic local $\pm$-Iwasawa theory at $p$ for Hecke characters of quadratic imaginary fields which is valid for all ramification types of $p$ (split, inert and ramified). As an application we deduce the converse of Gross-Zagier-Kolyvagin theorem for these CM forms, which states that Selmer rank one implies analytic rank one. To carry out the Iwasawa theory argument we employ a recent construction of a new type of $p$-adic $L$-function by Andreatta-Iovita, and generalized by Yangyu Fan to Shimura curves in the Appendix, and a ``virtual Heenger family'' made via a limiting procedure from a Heegner family along Coleman-Mazur eigencurve constructed by Jetchev-Loeffler-Zerbes.

Abstract:We define the notion of special automorphisms on Shimura curves. Using this notion, for a wild class of elliptic curves defined over Q, we get rank one quadratic twists by discriminants having any prescribed number of prime factors. Finally, as an application, we obtain some new results on Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) conjecture for the rank one quadratic twists of the elliptic curve X 0(49).

Non-vanishing of geodesic periods of automorphic forms

Abstract:We prove that one hundred percent of closed geodesic periods of a Maaß form for the modular group are non-vanishing when ordered by length. We present applications to the non-vanishing of central values of Rankin--Selberg $L$-functions. Similar results for holomorphic forms for general Fuchsian groups of the first kind with a cusp are also obtained, as well as results towards normal distribution.

Abstract:Fix a prime $p$ and a cuspidal newform $f$ of level coprime to $p$ with $a_p=0$. Attached to $f$ are signed $p$-adic $L$-functions $L_p^\pm(f)$ and Mazur-Tate elements $\theta_n(f)$, both of which encode arithmetic data about $f$ along the cyclotomic $\mathbf{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbf{Q}$. We compute the Iwasawa invariants of Mazur-Tate elements in terms of the corresponding invariants of the signed $p$-adic $L$-functions. As corollaries, we determine the $p$-adic valuation of critical values of the $L$-function of $f$, and describe a relation between the Iwasawa invariants of congruent modular forms of weights 2 and $p+1$. Our results provide an asymptotic method for computing the signed Iwasawa invariants attached to newforms of any weight $k\geq 2$ with $a_p=0$.
