Abstract:We describe an algorithm to organize Feynman integrals in terms of their infrared properties. Our approach builds upon the theory of Landau singularities, which we use to classify all configurations of loop momenta that can give rise to infrared divergences. We then construct bases of numerators for arbitrary Feynman integrals, which cancel all singularities and render the integrals finite. Through the same analysis, one can also classify so-called evanescent and evanescently finite Feynman integrals. These are integrals whose vanishing or finiteness relies on properties of dimensional regularization. To illustrate the use of these integrals, we display how to obtain a simpler form for the leading-color two-loop four-gluon scattering amplitude through the choice of a suitable basis of finite integrals. In particular, when all gluon helicities are equal, we show that with our basis the most complicated double-box integrals do not contribute to the finite remainder of the scattering amplitude.

Finite spectral triples for the fuzzy torus

Abstract:Finite real spectral triples are defined to characterise the non-commutative geometry of a fuzzy torus. The geometries are the non-commutative analogues of flat tori with moduli determined by integer parameters. Each of these geometries has four different Dirac operators, corresponding to the four unique spin structures on a torus. The spectrum of the Dirac operator is calculated. It is given by replacing integers with their quantum integer analogues in the spectrum of the corresponding commutative torus.

Fermionic integrable models and graded Borchers triples

Abstract:We provide an operator-algebraic construction of integrable models of quantum field theory on 1+1 dimensional Minkowski space with fermionic scattering states. These are obtained by a grading of the wedge-local fields or, alternatively, of the underlying Borchers triple defining the theory. This leads to a net of graded-local field algebras, of which the even part can be considered observable, although it is lacking Haag duality. Importantly, the nuclearity condition implying nontriviality of the local field algebras is independent of the grading, so that existing results on this technical question can be utilized. Application of Haag-Ruelle scattering theory confirms that the asymptotic particles are indeed fermionic. We also discuss connections with the form factor programme.

Abstract:The possibility of realizing lattice analogs of fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states, so-called fractional Chern insulators (FCIs), in nearly flat topological (Chern) bands has attracted a lot of recent interest. Here, we make the connection between Abelian as well as non-Abelian FQH states and FCIs more precise. Using a gauge-fixed version of Qi's Wannier basis representation of a Chern band, we demonstrate that the interpolation between several FCI states, obtained by short-range lattice interactions in a spin-orbit-coupled kagome lattice model, and the corresponding continuum FQH states is smooth: the gap remains approximately constant and extrapolates to a finite value in the thermodynamic limit, while the low-lying part of the orbital entanglement spectrum remains qualitatively unaltered. The orbital entanglement spectra also provide a first glimpse of the edge physics of FCIs via the bulk-boundary correspondence. Corroborating these results, we find that the squared overlaps between the FCI and FQH ground states are as large as 98.7% for the 8-electron Laughlin state at v = 1/3 (consistent with an earlier study) and 97.8% for the 10-electron Moore-Read state at v = 1/2. For the bosonic analogs of these states, the adiabatic continuity is also shown to hold, albeit with somewhat smaller associated overlaps, etc. Although going between the Chern bands to the Landau-level problem is often smooth, we show that this is not always the case by considering fermions at filling fraction v = 4/5, where the interpolation between Hamiltonians describing the two systems results in a phase transition. Abstract:A Grassmann functional phase space is formulated for the definition of fermionic Wigner functionals by identifying suitable fermionic operators that are analogues to boson quadrature operators. Instead of the Majorana operators, we use operators that are defined with relative spin transformations between the ladder operators. The eigenstates of these operators are shown to provide orthogonal bases, provided that the dual space is defined with the incorporation of a spin transformation. These bases then serve as quadrature bases in terms of which Wigner functionals are defined in a way equivalent to the bosonic case. As an application, we consider a two-level fermion system.

Dirac Operators on Configuration Spaces: Fermions with Half-integer Spin, Real Structure, and Yang-Mills Quantum Field Theory

Abstract:In this paper we continue the development of a spectral triple-like construction on a configuration space of gauge connections. We have previously shown that key elements of bosonic and fermionic quantum field theory emerge from such a geometrical framework. In this paper we solve a central problem concerning the inclusion of fermions with half-integer spin into this framework. We map the tangent space of the configuration space into a similar space based on spinors and use this map to construct a Dirac operator on the configuration space. We also construct a real structure acting in a Hilbert space over the configuration space. Finally, we show that the self-dual and anti-self-dual sectors of the Hamiltonian of a non-perturbative quantum Yang-Mills theory emerge from a unitary transformation of a Dirac equation on a configuration space of gauge fields. The dual and anti-dual sectors emerge in a two-by-two matrix structure.

Dirac fermion spectrum of the fractional quantum Hall states

Abstract:Applying a unified approach, we study the integer quantum Hall effect (IQHE) and fractional quantum Hall effect (FQHE) in the Hofstadter model with short range interactions between fermions. An effective field, that takes into account the interaction between fermions, is determined by both amplitude and phase. Its amplitude is proportional to the interaction strength, the phase corresponds to the minimum energy. In fact, the problem is reduced to the Harper equation with two different scales: the first is a magnetic scale with the cell size corresponding to a unit quantum magnetic flux, the second scale determines the inhomogeneity of the effective field, forms the steady fine structure of the Hofstadter spectrum and leads to the realization of fractional quantum Hall states. In a sample of finite size with open boundary conditions, the fine structure of the Hofstadter spectrum consists of the Dirac branches of the fermion excitations and includes the fine structure of the edge chiral modes. The Chern numbers of the topological Hofstadter bands are conserved during the formation of their fine structure. The edge modes are formed into the Hofstadter bands. They connect the nearest-neighbor subbands and determine the conductance for the fractional filling.

Abstract:We introduce a transformation which allows the fermionization of operators of any one-dimensional spin-chain. This fermionization procedure is independent of any eventual integrable structure and is compatible with it. We illustrate this method on various integrable and non-integrable chains, and deduce some general results. In particular, we fermionize XXC spin-chains and study their symmetries. Fermionic realizations of certain Lie algebras and superalgebras appear naturally as symmetries of some models. We also fermionize recently obtained Hubbard models, and obtain for the first time multispecies analogues of the Hubbard model, in their fermionic form. We comment on the conflict between symmetry enhancement and integrability of these models. Finally, the fermionic versions of the non integrable spin-1 and spin-3/2 Heisenberg chains are obtained.

Single-particle spectral function of fractional quantum anomalous Hall states

Abstract:Fractional quantum Hall states are the most prominent example of states with topological order, hosting excitations with fractionalized charge. Recent experiments in twisted $\text{MoTe}_2$ and graphene-based heterostructures provide evidence of fractional quantum anomalous Hall (FQAH) states, which spontaneously break time-reversal symmetry and persist even without an external magnetic field. Understanding the unique properties of these states requires the characterization of their low-energy excitations. To that end, we construct a parton theory for the energy and momentum-resolved single-particle spectral function of FQAH states. We explicitly consider several experimentally observed filling fractions as well as a composite Fermi liquid in the half-filled Chern band. The parton description captures qualitatively our numerical exact diagonalization results. Additionally, we discuss how the finite bandwidth of the Chern band and the non-ideal quantum geometry affect the fractionalized excitations. Our work demonstrates that the energy and momentum-resolved electronic single-particle spectral function provides a valuable tool to characterize fractionalized excitations of FQAH states in moiré lattices.

Abstract:We consider the insertion of integrable boundaries for a class of supersymmetric quantum models. The generic conditions for constructing purely bosonic, purely fermionic or mixed type solutions of the graded reflection equation are extracted. Focusing on models associated with gl(m|n) or Uq(gl(m|n)) symmetry, we first consider purely bosonic reflection matrices with special structures, for general values of m, n. These solutions provide the bosonic parts to construct fuller reflection matrices, containing fermionic degrees of freedom as well.

Abstract:We show that, for each symmetry class based on the tenfold way classification, the effective Dirac operator obtained by integrating out the additional bulk direction takes a value in the corresponding classifying space, from which we obtain the flat band Hamiltonian. We then obtain the overlap Dirac operator for each symmetry class and establish the Ginsparg--Wilson relation associated with $\mathcal{C}$ and $\mathcal{T}$ symmetries, and also the mod-two index theorem.

Abstract:Multi-Schur functions are symmetric functions that generalize the supersymmetric Schur functions, the flagged Schur functions, and the refined dual Grothendieck functions, which have been intensively studied by Lascoux. In this paper, we give a new free-fermionic presentation of them. The multi-Schur functions are indexed by a partition and two ``tuples of tuples'' of indeterminates. We construct a family of linear bases of the fermionic Fock space that are indexed by such data and prove that they correspond to the multi-Schur functions through the boson-fermion correspondence. By focusing on some special bases, which we call refined bases, we give a straightforward method of expanding a multi-Schur function in the refined dual Grothendieck polynomials. We also present a sufficient condition for a multi-Schur function to have its Hall-dual function in the completed ring of symmetric functions.

Unitary boson-boson and boson-fermion mixtures: third virial coefficient and three-body parameter on a narrow Feshbach resonance

Abstract:We give exact integral expressions of the third cluster or virial coefficients of binary mixtures of ideal Bose or Fermi gases, with interspecies interactions of zero range and infinite s-wave scattering length. In general the result depends on three-body parameters Rt appearing in three-body contact conditions, because an Efimov effect is present or because the mixture is in a preefimovian regime with a mass ratio close to an Efimov effect threshold. We give a new, exact integral expression of Rt for the microscopic narrow Feshbach resonance model. A divergence of Rt in the preefimovian regime at a scaling exponent s = 1/2 is predicted and physically discussed. The analytical results are applied to typical species used in cold atom experiments.

Fermions in Boundary Conformal Field Theory : Crossing Symmetry and $ε$-Expansion

Abstract:We use the equations of motion in combination with crossing symmetry to constrain the properties of interacting fermionic boundary conformal field theories. This combination is an efficient way of determining operator product expansion coefficients and anomalous dimensions at the first few orders of the $\epsilon$ expansion. Two necessary ingredients for this procedure are knowledge of the boundary and bulk spinor conformal blocks. The bulk spinor conformal blocks are derived here for the first time. We then consider a number of examples. For $\phi$ a scalar field and $\psi$ a fermionic field, we study the effects of a $\phi \bar \psi \psi$ coupling in $4- \epsilon$ dimensions, a $\phi^2 \bar \psi \psi$ coupling in $3 -\epsilon$ dimensions, and a $(\bar \psi \psi)^2$ coupling in $2+\epsilon$ dimensions. We are able to compute some new anomalous dimensions for operators in these theories. Finally, we relate the anomalous dimension of a surface operator to the behavior of the charge density near the surface.

Spectral properties and observables in ultracold Fermi gases

Abstract:We calculate non-perturbative self-consistent fermionic and bosonic spectral functions of ultra-cold Fermi gases with the spectral functional approach. This approach allows for a direct real-time computation of non-perturbative correlation functions, and in the present work we use spectral Dyson-Schwinger equations. We focus on the normal phase of the spin-balanced Fermi gas and provide numerical results for the full fermionic and bosonic spectral functions. The spectral functions are then used for the determination of the equation of state, the Tan contact and ejection rf spectra at unitarity. These results are compared to experimental data, the self-consistent T-matrix approach and lattice results. Our approach offers a wide range of applications, including the ab initio calculation of transport and spectral properties of the superfluid phase in the BCS-BEC crossover.
