Abstract:We show that the combination of nonnegative 2-intermediate Ricci Curvature and strict positivity of scalar curvature forces rigidity of two-sided free boundary stable minimal hypersurface in a 4-manifold with bounded geometry and weakly convex boundary. This extends the method of Chodosh-Li-Stryker to free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in ambient manifolds with boundary.

Abstract:Abstract In this paper, we consider locally wedge-shaped manifolds, which are Riemannian manifolds that are allowed to have both boundary and certain types of edges. We define and study the properties of free boundary minimal hypersurfaces inside locally wedge-shaped manifolds. In particular, we show a compactness theorem for free boundary minimal hypersurfaces with curvature and area bounds in a locally wedge-shaped manifold. Additionally, using Schoen–Simon–Yau’s estimates, we also prove a Bernstein-type theorem indicating that, under certain conditions, a stable free boundary minimal hypersurface inside a Euclidean wedge must be a portion of a hyperplane. As our main application, we establish a curvature estimate for sufficiently regular free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in a locally wedge-shaped manifold with certain wedge angle assumptions. We expect this curvature estimate will be useful for establishing a min-max theory for the area functional in wedge-shaped spaces.

Abstract:In Finsler geometry, minimal surfaces with respect to the Busemann-Hausdorff measure and the Holmes-Thompson measure are called BH-minimal and HT-minimal surfaces, respectively. In this paper, we give the explicit expressions of BH-minimal and HT-minimal rotational hypersurfaces generated by plane curves rotating around the axis in the direction of ${\tilde{\beta}^{\sharp}}$ in Minkowski (α, β)-space ${(\mathbb{V}^{n+1},\tilde{F_b})}$ , where ${\mathbb{V}^{n+1}}$ is an (n+1)-dimensional real vector space, ${\tilde{F_b}=\tilde{\alpha}\phi(\tilde{\beta}/\tilde{\alpha}), \tilde{\alpha}}$ is the Euclidean metric, ${\tilde{\beta}}$ is a one form of constant length ${b:=\|\tilde{\beta}\|_{\tilde{\alpha}}, \tilde{\beta}^{\sharp}}$ is the dual vector of ${\tilde{\beta}}$ with respect to ${\tilde{\alpha}}$ . As an application, we first give the explicit expressions of the forward complete BH-minimal rotational surfaces generated around the axis in the direction of ${\tilde{\beta}^{\sharp}}$ in Minkowski Randers 3-space ${(\mathbb{V}^{3},\tilde{\alpha}+\tilde{\beta})}$ .

Abstract:By using curvature estimates, we prove that a complete non-compact hypersurface M with constant mean curvature and finiteL n -norm curvature in R n+1 must be minimal, so that M is a hyperplane if it is strongly stable. This is a generalization of the result on stable complete minimal hypersurfaces of R n+1. Moreover, complete strongly stable hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and finite L 1-norm curvature in R n+1 are considered.

Abstract:Given $$n_1\ge n_2\ge 2$$ , let $$\Sigma $$ be an orientable, minimal hypersurface of $$\mathbb {S}^{n_1}(1)\times \mathbb {S}^{n_2}(a)$$ with index one. Assume $$\Sigma $$ is closed and either smooth or singular with a singular set $${{\,\mathrm{sing}\,}}(\Sigma )$$ satisfying $$\mathcal {H}^{n-2}({{\,\mathrm{sing}\,}}(\Sigma ))=0$$ . By using the almost product structure, we prove that, when $$a^{2}\ge \frac{n_2}{n_1-1}$$ or $$a^{2}\le \frac{n_2-1}{n_1}$$ , such $$\Sigma $$ must be totally geodesic. As an application, combining with the results of X. Zhou [37], we compute the width of $$\mathbb {S}^{n_1}(1)\times \mathbb {S}^{n_2}(a)$$ .

Abstract:We show that the combination of non-negative sectional curvature (or $2$-intermediate Ricci curvature) and strict positivity of scalar curvature forces rigidity of complete (non-compact) two-sided stable minimal hypersurfaces in a $4$-manifold with bounded curvature. In particular, this implies the nonexistence of complete two-sided stable minimal hypersurface in a closed $4$-manifold with positive sectional curvature. Our work leads to new comparison results. We also construct various examples showing rigidity of stable minimal hypersurfaces can fail under other curvature conditions.

Abstract:We prove that, in a Euclidean domain bounded by hyperplanes having linearly independent normals, a connected oriented compact immersed stable capillary hypersurface $M^n$ disjoint from the edges of the domain and with the contact angles belonging to $[\pi /2,\pi ]$ must be part of a sphere, if $\partial M$ is embedded for $n=2$, or $\partial M$ is convex in the hyperplane for $n\ge 3$. By applying a similar argument, we also discuss two other cases where a stable capillary hypersurface must be part of a sphere.

Abstract:We consider a convex solid cone $\mathcal{C}\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with vertex at the origin and boundary $\partial\mathcal{C}$ smooth away from $0$. Our main result shows that a compact two-sided hypersurface $\Sigma$ immersed in $\mathcal{C}$ with free boundary in $\partial\mathcal{C}\setminus\{0\}$ and minimizing, up to second order, an anisotropic area functional under a volume constraint is contained in a Wulff-shape.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the problem of constructing a smooth Levi-flat hypersurface locally or globally attached to a real codimension two submanifold in $\mathbb C^{n+1}$, or more generally in a Stein manifold, with elliptic CR singularities, a research direction originated from a fundamental and classical paper of E. Bishop. Earlier works along these lines include those by many prominent mathematicians working both on complex analysis and geometry. We prove that a compact smooth (or, real analytic) real codimension two submanifold $M$, that is contained in the boundary of a smoothly bounded strongly pseudoconvex domain, with a natural and necessary condition called CR non-minimal condition at CR points and with two elliptic CR singular points bounds a smooth-up-to-boundary (real analytic-up-to-boundary, respectively) Levi-flat hypersurface $\widehat{M}$. This answers a well-known question left open from the work of Dolbeault-Tomassini-Zaitsev, or a generalized version of a problem already asked by Bishop in 1965. Our study here reveals an intricate interaction of several complex analysis with other fields such as symplectic geometry and foliation theory.

Abstract:For each large enough $m\in\mathbb{N}$ we construct by PDE gluing methods a closed embedded smooth minimal hypersurface ${\breve{M}_m}$ doubling the equatorial three-sphere $\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3$ in $\mathbb{S}^4(1)$, with ${\breve{M}_m}$ containing $m^2$ bridges modelled after the three-dimensional catenoid and centered at the points of a square $m\times m$ lattice $L$ contained in the Clifford torus $\mathbb{T}^2\subset \mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3$. This answers a long-standing question of Yau in the case of $\mathbb{S}^4(1)$ and long-standing questions of Hsiang. Similarly we construct a self-shrinker ${\breve{M}_{\mathrm{shr},m}}$ of the Mean Curvature Flow in $\mathbb{R}^4$ doubling the three-dimensional spherical self-shrinker $\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{shr}}^3\subset \mathbb{R}^4$ with the bridges centered at the points of a square $m\times m$ lattice $L$ contained in a Clifford torus $\mathbb{T}^2\subset \mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{shr}}^3$. Both constructions respect the symmetries of the lattice $L$ as a subset of $\mathbb{S}^4(1)$ or $\mathbb{R}^4$ and are based on the Linearized Doubling (LD) methodology which was first introduced in the construction of minimal surface doublings of $\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^2$ in $\mathbb{S}^3(1)$. Furthermore $\breve{M}_m$ converges as $m \to\infty$ in the varifold sense to $2\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3$, and its volume $|\breve{M}_m| < 2|\mathbb{S}_{\mathrm{eq}}^3|$.

Abstract:We prove that every hyperplane passing through the origin in $\rr^{n+1}$ divides an embedded compact free boundary minimal hypersurface of the euclidean $(n+1)$-ball in exactly two connected hypersurfaces. We also show that if a region in the $(n+1)$-ball has mean convex boundary and contains a nullhomologous $(n-1)$-dimensional equatorial disk, then this region is a closed halfball. Our first result gives evidence to a conjecture by Fraser and Li in any dimension.

Abstract:We study the behavior of minimal hypersurfaces in the Schwarzschild n -manifolds that intersect the horizon orthogonally along the boundary. We show that a free boundary minimal hypersurface and a totally geodesic hyperplane must intersect when the distance between them is achieved in a bounded region. We also discuss when the Schwarzschild metric is perturbed in a way that its scalar curvature is no longer positive.

Abstract:In this paper, we study $n$-dimensional complete minimal hypersurfaces in a hyperbolic space $H^{n+1}(-1)$ of constant curvature $-1$. We prove that a $3$-dimensional complete minimal hypersurface with constant scalar curvature in $H^{4}(-1)$ satisfies $S\leq \frac{21}{29}$ by making use of the Generalized Maximum Principle, where $S$ denotes the squared norm of the second fundamental form of the hypersurface.
