Abstract:If a reduced bivariate polynomial is quasi-homogeneous, then its discriminant is a monomial. Over fields of characteristic $0$, we show that if one adds another simple condition, this becomes an equivalence. We also give a third equivalent condition that is stated geometrically.

Abstract: Determination of quasi-invariant generalized functions is important for a variety of problems in representation theory, notably character theory and restriction problems. In this note, we review some new and easy-to-use techniques to show vanishing of quasi-invariant generalized functions, developed in the recent work of the authors (Uniqueness of Ginzburg-Rallis models: the Archimedean case, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 363, (2011), 2763-2802). The first two techniques involve geometric notions attached to submanifolds, which we call metrical properness and unipotent $\chi$-incompatibility. The third one is analytic in nature, and it arises from the first occurrence phenomenon in Howe correspondence. We also highlight how these techniques quickly lead to two well-known uniqueness results, on trilinear forms and Whittaker models.

Abstract:In this paper, the definitions of quasi-orthogonal idempotent sequences and Iq-dimensions of a ring R are given. The relations between Iq-dimensions and block decomposition numbers of a ring are discussed. As a generalization of monic polynomials, the concept of quasi-monic polynomials over a ring is introduced. It is shown that, for a quasi-monic polynomial over a ring, the division algorithm holds. Suslin Lemma and Horrocks' Theorem are extended to the setting of quasi-monic polynomials. For a commutative ring R, if f(x) is a quasi-monic polynomial in R[x], then GD(R) = GD(R[x]/f(x)) is proved, where GD(R) denotes the global dimension of R.

Abstract:In this article we give a characterization of left (right) quasi-duo differential polynomial rings. In particular, we show that a differential polynomial ring is left quasi-duo if and only if it is right quasi-duo. This yields a partial answer to a question posed by Lam and Dugas in 2005. We provide non-trivial examples of such rings and give a complete description of the maximal ideals of an arbitrary quasi-duo differential polynomial ring. Moreover, we show that there is no left (right) quasi-duo differential polynomial ring in several indeterminates.

Abstract:A cubic Galois polynomial is a cubic polynomial with rational coefficients that defines a cubic Galois field. Its discriminant is a full square and its roots $x_1,x_2,x_3$ (enumerated in some order) are real. There exists (and only one) quadratic polynomial $q$ with rational coefficients such that $q(x_1)=x_2, q(x_2)=x_3, q(x_3)=x_1$. The polynomial $r=q(q)\text{ mod } p$ cyclically permutes roots of $p$ in the opposite order: $r(x_1)=x_3, r(x_3)=x_2, r(x_2)=x_1$. We prove that there exist a unique Galois polynomial $p_1$ and a unique Galois polynomial $p_2$ such that the polynomial $q$ cyclically permutes roots of $p_1$ and the polynomial $r$ do the same with roots of $p_2$. Polynomials $p$ and $p_1$ (and also $p$ and $p_2$) will be called \emph{coupled}. Two polynomials are \emph{linear equivalent}, if one of them is obtained from another by a linear change of variable. By $C(p)$ we denote the class of polynomials, linear equivalent to $p$. The coupling realizes a bijection between classes $C(p)$ and $C(p_1)$ (and between classes $C(p)$ and $C(p_2)$). Classes $C(p)$ and $C(p_1)$ (and classes $C(p)$ and $C(p_2)$) will be called \emph{adjacent}. We consider a graph: its vertices -- are classes of the linear equivalency and two vertices are connected by an edge, if the corresponded classes are adjacent. Connected components of this graph will be called \emph{superclasses}. In this work we give a description of superclasses.

Abstract:Let $(R,\mathfrak{m}_R,k)$ be a one-dimensional complete local reduced $k$-algebra over a field of characteristic zero. The ring $R$ is said to be quasihomogeneous if there exists a surjection $\Omega_R\twoheadrightarrow \mathfrak{m}$ where $\Omega_R$ denotes the module of differentials. We present two characterizations of quasihomogeneity of $R$ in the situation when $R$ is a domain: the first one on the valuation semigroup of $R$ and the other on the trace ideal of the module $\Omega_R$.

Abstract:A characterization of right (left) quasi-duo skew polynomial rings of endomorphism type and skew Laurent polynomial rings are given. In particular, it is shown that (1) the polynomial ring R[x] is right quasi-duo iff R[x] is commutative modulo its Jacobson radical iff R[x] is left quasi-duo, (2) the skew Laurent polynomial ring is right quasi-duo iff it is left quasi-duo. These extend some known results concerning a description of quasi-duo polynomial rings and give a partial answer to the question posed by Lam and Dugas whether right quasi-duo rings are left quasi-duo.

Abstract:Concerning quartics, two particular quantifier elimination (QE) problems of historical interests and practical values are studied. We solve the problems by the theory of complete discrimination systems and negative root discriminant sequences for polynomials that provide a method for real (positive/negative) and complex root classification for polynomials. The equivalent quantifier-free formulas are obtained mainly be hand and are simpler than those obtained automatically by previous methods or QE tools. Also, applications of the results to program verification and determination of positivity of symmetric polynomials are showed.

Abstract:In this article, we extend the classical framework for computing discriminants of special quasi-orthogonal polynomials from Schur's resultant formula, and establish a framework for computing discriminants of a sufficiently broader class of polynomials from the resultant formulas that are proven by Ulas and Turaj. More precisely, we derive a formula for the discriminant of a sequence of polynomials. Here, c is an element of a field K and is a sequence of polynomials satisfying a certain recurrence relation. There are several works computing the discriminants of given polynomials. For example, Kaneko–Niiho and Mahlburg–Ono independently proved the formula for the discriminants of certain hypergeometric polynomials that are related to j -invariants of supersingular elliptic curves. Sawa–Uchida proved the formula for the discriminants of quasi-Jacobi polynomials and applied it to prove the nonexistence of certain rational quadrature formulas. Our main theorem presents a uniform way to prove a vast generalization of the above formulas for the discriminants.

Abstract:Let $\mathbb{F}$ be a field. We show that given any $n$th degree monic polynomial $q(x)\in \mathbb{F}[x]$ and any matrix $A\in\mathbb{M}_n(\mathbb{F})$ whose trace coincides with the trace of $q(x)$ and consisting in its main diagonal of $k$ 0-blocks of order one, with $k<n-k$, and an invertible non-derogatory block of order $n-k$, we can construct a square-zero matrix $N$ such that the characteristic polynomial of $A+N$ is exactly $q(x)$. We also show that the restriction $k<n-k$ is necessary in the sense that, when the equality $k=n-k$ holds, not every characteristic polynomial having the same trace as $A$ can be obtained by adding a square-zero matrix. Finally, we apply our main result to decompose matrices into the sum of a square-zero matrix and some other matrix which is either diagonalizable, invertible, potent or torsion.

On quasi-Hermitian varieties in even characteristic and related orthogonal arrays

Abstract:In this paper we study the BM quasi-Hermitian varieties introduced in [A. Aguglia, A. Cossidente, G. Korchmàros, On quasi-Hermitian Varieties, J. Combin. Des. 20 (2012) 433-447.] in characteristc $2$ and dimension $3$. After a brief investigation of their combinatorial properties, we first show that all of these varieties are projectively equivalent in non-zero even characteristic, exhibiting a behavior which is strikingly different from what happens in odd characteristic, see [A. Aguglia, L. Giuzzi, On the equivalence of certain quasi-Hermitian varieties, J. Combin. Des. 1-15 (2022)]. This completes the classification project started in that paper. Next, by using previous results, we explicitly determine and investigate the structure of the full collineation group stabilizing these varieties. Finally, as a byproduct of our investigation, we also construct and a family of simple orthogonal arrays $OA(q^5,q^4,q,2)$ with entries in ${\mathbb F}_q$ where $q$ is a power of $2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a complete characterization for the essential normality of quasi-homogenous quotient modules of the Hardy modules $$H^2 \left( {\mathbb{D}^2 } \right)$$. Also, we show that if d ≥ 3, then all the principle homogenous quotient modules of $$H^2 \left( {\mathbb{D}^d } \right)$$ are not essentially normal.

Abstract:Grothendieck–Chow motives of quadric hypersurfaces have provided many insights into the theory of quadratic forms. Abstract:In this paper, we obtain a complete classification under unitary equivalence for Hardy submodules on the polydisk which are generated by ideals of polynomials. Let I be an ideal of polynomials in n variables. Since I is generated by finitely many polynomials, I has a greatest common divisor p. So, I can be uniquely written as I=p L which is called the Beurling form of I. Let I1=p1L1, I2=p2L2. We prove that [I1] and [I2] are unitarily equivalent if and only if there are polynomials q1 and q2 with Z(q1)∩Dn=Z(q2)∩Dn=∅ such that |p1q1|=|p2q2| on Tn, and [p1L1]=[p1L2]. Consequently, two principal submodules [p1] and [p2] are unitarily equivalent if and only if there are polynomials q1 and q2 with Z(q1)∩Dn=Z(q2)∩Dn=∅ such that |p1q1|=|p2q2| on Tn. Furthermore, we give a complete similarity classification for submodules generated by homogeneous ideals. Finally, we point out that in the case of the Hardy module on the unit ball, [I1] and [I2] are unitarily equivalent if and only if they are equal. If I1 and I2 are homogeneous ideals, then [I1] and [I2] are quasi-similar if and only if I1=I2.
On Poincaré polynomials for plane curves with quasi-homogeneous singularities

Abstract:We define a combinatorial object that can be associated with any conic-line arrangement with ordinary quasi-homogeneous singularities, which we call the combinatorial Poincaré polynomial. We prove a Terao-type factorization statement on the splitting of such a polynomial over the rationals under the assumption that our conic-line arrangements are free. Then we focus on the so-called $d$-arrangements in the plane. In particular, we provide a combinatorial constraint for free $d$-arrangements admitting ordinary quasi-homogeneous singularities.

Universality criterion sets for quadratic forms over number fields

Abstract:In analogy with the 290-Theorem of Bhargava-Hanke, a criterion set is a finite subset $C$ of the totally positive integers in a given totally real number field such that if a quadratic form represents all elements of $C$, then it necessarily represents all totally positive integers, i.e., is universal. We use a novel characterization of minimal criterion sets to show that they always exist and are unique, and that they must contain certain explicit elements. We also extend the uniqueness result to the more general setting of representations of a given subset of the integers.

Abstract:Abstract Let be the ring of polynomials in variables and consider the ideal generated by quasisymmetric polynomials without constant term. It was shown by J. C. Aval, F. Bergeron, and N. Bergeron that the th Catalan number. In the present work, we explain this phenomenon by defining a set of permutations with the following properties: first, is a basis of the Temperley–Lieb algebra , and second, when considering as a collection of points in , the top‐degree homogeneous component of the vanishing ideal is . Our construction has a few byproducts that are independently noteworthy. We define an equivalence relation on the symmetric group using weak excedances and show that its equivalence classes are naturally indexed by noncrossing partitions. Each equivalence class is an interval in the Bruhat order between an element of and a 321‐avoiding permutation. Furthermore, the Bruhat order induces a well‐defined order on . Finally, we show that any section of the quotient gives an (often novel) basis for .

Abstract:This study presents a novel family of bivariate 2D- q q Hermite polynomials. We derive explicit forms and q q -partial differential equations and investigate numerical aspects associated with these polynomials. Furthermore, we deduce the monomiality principle and other key properties of the bivariate 2D- q q Hermite polynomials, including q q -recurrence relations and q q -difference equations. In addition, the graphical representations for the bivariate 2D- q q Hermite polynomials and q q -Hermite polynomials are explored for different values of indices.
