Abstract:We summarize the current knowledge on the three limit notions: ultrafilter-limits, closed-ultrafilter-limits and FAM-limits. Also, we consider the possibility to perform an iteration which has all the three limits and clarify the problem we face.

Abstract:We define several notions of a limit point on sequences with domain a barrier in $[\omega]^{<\omega}$ focusing on the two dimensional case $[\omega]^2$. By exploring some natural candidates, we show that countable compactness has a number of generalizations in terms of limits of high dimensional sequences and define a particular notion of $\alpha$-countable compactness for $\alpha\leq\omega_1$. We then focus on dimension 2 and compare 2-countable compactness with notions previously studied in the literature. We present a number of counterexamples showing that these classes are different. In particular assuming the existence of a Ramsey ultrafilter, a subspace of $\beta\omega$ which is doubly countably compact whose square is not countably compact, answering a question of T. Banakh, S. Dimitrova and O. Gutik. The analysis of this construction leads to some possibly new types of ultrafilters related to discrete, P-points and Ramsey ultrafilters.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the concept of limit, one of the basic concepts of mathematical analysis. At a point $a\in{\mathbb{R}}$, the limit of a function $f$ from $A\subset\mathbb{R}$ to $\mathbb{R}$ is $L\in{\mathbb{R}}$ if and only if there exists $\delta>0$ such that the set $$ \left\{x\in\left(\left(a-\delta,a+\delta\right)\backslash\left\{a\right\}\right)\cap A:\lvert f\left(x\right)-L\rvert \ge\varepsilon\right\} $$ is the empty set for each $\varepsilon>0$. This study investigates what happens when the above set is not empty. More clearly, when we take the above set as finite or a set whose accumulation points is empty, we prove that the limit concept does not change. However, when we take the above set as countable or a set of measure zero, we prove that they are new limit concepts. Also, we show that these new limit concepts have the properties of existence, uniqueness, additivity, multiplicativity, etc. Finally, by giving some examples, we compare the limit concepts we have obtained with the previous ones.

Limits of eventual families of sets with application to algorithms for the common fixed point problem

Abstract:We present an abstract framework for asymptotic analysis of convergence based on the notions of eventual families of sets that we define. A family of subsets of a given set is called here an "eventual family" if it is upper hereditary with respect to inclusion. We define accumulation points of eventual families in a Hausdorff Topological space and define the "image family" of an eventual family. Focusing on eventual families in the set of the integers enables us to talk about sequences of points. We expand our work to the notion of a "multiset" which is a modification of the concept of a set that allows for multiple instances of its elements and enable the development of "multifamilies" which are either "increasing" or "decreasing". The abstract structure created here is motivated by, and feeds back to, our look at the convergence analysis of an iterative process for asymptotically finding a common fixed point of a family of operators.

Abstract:In this article we propose a conception of mixed limits of functional spaces as the case, when the upper limit (projective limit of inductive limits) and the lower limit (inductive limit of projective limits) coincide as topological spaces, which are generalization of inductive and projective limits of functional spaces. We show a cases where these mixed limits are naturally obtained as the limit spaces of non-commutative $L_p$-type spaces associated with the sequence of operators. Also, we obtain results on the properties of limit spaces, we show that limit spaces of Banach algebras are (LF)-spaces, if they converge.

Abstract:We show that the notion of $(\infty,n)$-limit defined using the enriched approach and the one defined using the internal approach coincide. We also give explicit constructions of various double $(\infty,n-1)$-categories implementing various join constructions, slice constructions and cone constructions, and study their properties. We further prove that key examples of $(\infty,n)$-categories are (co)complete.

We focus in particular on examples of the amalgamated limit from the literature and on the topological amalgamated limit for compact Hausdorff spaces.

Abstract:The derived functors $\lim^n$ of the inverse limit are widely studied for their topological applications, among which are some repercussions on the additivity of strong homology. Set theory has proven useful in dealing with these functors, for instance in the case of the inverse system $\mathbf{A}$ of abelian groups indexed by ${}^\omega \omega$. So far, consistency results for nonvanishing derived limits of $\mathbf{A}$ have always assumed the existence of a scale (i.e. a linear cofinal subset of $({}^\omega \omega, \leq^\ast )$, or equivalently that $\mathfrak{b} = \mathfrak{d} $). Here we do away with that assumption and prove that nonvanishing derived limits, and hence the non-additivity of strong homology, are consistent with any value of $\aleph_1 \leq \mathfrak{b} \leq \mathfrak{d} < \aleph_\omega$, thus giving a partial answer to a question of Bannister.

Abstract:We introduce partially lax limits of infinity-categories, which interpolate between ordinary limits and lax limits. Most naturally occurring examples of lax limits are only partially lax; we give examples arising from enriched categories and operads. Our main result is a formula for partially lax limits and colimits in terms of the Grothendieck construction. This generalizes a formula of Lurie for ordinary limits and of Gepner-Haugseng-Nikolaus for fully lax limits.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a model category structure in the category of functors from a filtered poset to cochain complexes in which higher limits of functors that take values in $R$-modules can be computed by means of a fibrant replacement. We explicitly describe a procedure to compute the fibrant replacement and, finally, deduce some vanishing bounds for the higher limits.

Abstract:Filters are collections of sets that are closed under supersets and finite intersections, serving as fundamental tools in topology and set theory. An ultrafilter, a maximal filter on a set, plays a crucial role in these fields by rigorously handling limits, convergence, and compactness. A connectivity system is defined as a pair (X,f) , where X is a finite set and f is a symmetric submodular function. Understanding the duality in these parameters elucidates the relationship between different decompositions and measures of a graph's complexity. In this paper, we delve into ultrafilters on connectivity systems, applying Tukey's Lemma to these systems. Additionally, we explore prefilters, ultra-prefilters, and subbases within the context of connectivity systems. Furthermore, we introduce and investigate new parameters related to width, length, and depth, enhancing our understanding of these mathematical structures.

Abstract:We present three models concerning Tukey types of ultrafilters on $\omega$. The first model is built via a countable support iteration, and we show there is no basically generated ultrafilter in such model. The second and third models are built upon different and novel techniques, and in such models all ultrafilters are Tukey top, thus providing an answer to the Isbell problem. In all models there is no $\mathsf{nwd}$-ultrafilter.

Abstract:The goal of this work is to introduce and study fuzzy limits of functions. Two approaches to fuzzy limits of a function are considered. One is based on the concept of a fuzzy limit of a sequence, while another generalizes the conventional epsilon-delta definition. It is demonstrated that these constructions are equivalent. Different properties of fuzzy limits of functions are found. Properties of conventional limits are easily deduced from properties of fuzzy limits. In the second part of this work, the concept of fuzzy limits of a function is extended to provide means to define nontrivial continuity of functions on discrete sets. In addition, fuzzy limits of functions are introduced and studied.

Abstract:We extend the class of ultrafilters $U$ over countable sets for which $U\cdot U\equiv_T U$, extending several results from \cite{Dobrinen/Todorcevic11}. In particular, we prove that for each countable ordinal $\alpha\geq 2$, the generic ultrafilter $G_\alpha$ forced by $P(\omega^\alpha)/\text{fin}^{\otimes\alpha}$ satisfy $G_\alpha\cdot G_\alpha\equiv_T G_\alpha$. This answers a question posed in \cite[Question 43]{Dobrinen/Todorcevic11}. Additionally, we establish that Milliken-Taylor ultrafilters possess the property that $U\cdot U\equiv_T U$.

Abstract:Limit computable functions can be characterized by Turing jumps on the input side or limits on the output side. As a monad of this pair of adjoint operations we obtain a problem that characterizes the low functions and dually to this another problem that characterizes the functions that are computable relative to the halting problem. Correspondingly, these two classes are the largest classes of functions that can be pre or post composed to limit computable functions without leaving the class of limit computable functions. We transfer these observations to the lattice of represented spaces where it leads to a formal Galois connection. We also formulate a version of this result for computable metric spaces. Limit computability and computability relative to the halting problem are notions that coincide for points and sequences, but even restricted to continuous functions the former class is strictly larger than the latter. On computable metric spaces we can characterize the functions that are computable relative to the halting problem as those functions that are limit computable with a modulus of continuity that is computable relative to the halting problem. As a consequence of this result we obtain, for instance, that Lipschitz continuous functions that are limit computable are automatically computable relative to the halting problem. We also discuss 1-generic points as the canonical points of continuity of limit computable functions, and we prove that restricted to these points limit computable functions are computable relative to the halting problem. Finally, we demonstrate how these results can be applied in computable analysis.

Abstract:We give a necessary and sufficient condition for an inverse sequence $S_0 \leftarrow S_1 \leftarrow \dots$ indexed by natural numbers to have ${\rm lim}^1S=0$. This condition can be treated as a transfinite version of the Mittag-Leffler condition. We consider inverse sequences in an arbitrary abelian category having a generator and satisfying Grothendieck axioms ${\rm (AB3)}$ and ${\rm (AB4^*)}.$ We also show that the class of inverse sequences $S$ such that ${\rm lim}\: S={\rm lim}^1 S=0$ is the least class of inverse sequences containing the trivial inverse sequence and closed with respect to small limits and a certain type of extensions.

Existence and uniqueness of limits at infinity for bounded variation functions

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of limits at infinity along almost every infinite curve for the upper and lower approximate limits of bounded variation functions on complete unbounded metric measure spaces. We prove that if the measure is doubling and supports a $1$-Poincaré inequality, then for every bounded variation function $f$ and for $1$-a.e. infinite curve $\gamma$, for both the upper approximate limit $f^\vee$ and the lower approximate limit $f^\wedge$ we have that \[ \lim_{t\to+\infty}f^\vee(\gamma(t)) {\rm \ \ and\ \ }\lim_{t\to+\infty}f^\wedge(\gamma(t)) \] exist and are equal to the same finite value. We give examples showing that the conditions of doubling and a $1$-Poincaré inequality are also necessary for the existence of limits. Furthermore, we establish a characterization for strictly positive $1$-modulus of the family of all infinite curves in terms of bounded variation functions. These generalize results for Sobolev functions given in \cite{KN23}.

Abstract:Let $\kappa$ be a regular cardinal, $\lambda<\kappa$ be a smaller infinite cardinal, and $\mathsf K$ be a $\kappa$-accessible category where colimits of $\lambda$-indexed chains exist. We show that various category-theoretic constructions applied to $\mathsf K$, such as the inserter and the equifier, produce $\kappa$-accessible categories $\mathsf E$ again, and the most obvious expected description of the full subcategory of $\kappa$-presentable objects in $\mathsf E$ in terms of $\kappa$-presentable objects in $\mathsf K$ holds true. In particular, if $\mathsf C$ is a $\kappa$-small category, then the category of functors $\mathsf C\rightarrow\mathsf K$ is $\kappa$-accessible, and its $\kappa$-presentable objects are precisely all the functors from $\mathsf C$ to the $\kappa$-presentable objects of $\mathsf K$. We proceed to discuss the preservation of $\kappa$-accessibility by conical pseudolimits, lax and oplax limits, and weighted pseudolimits. The results of this paper go back to an unpublished 1977 preprint of Ulmer. Our motivation comes from the theory of flat modules and flat quasi-coherent sheaves.

Abstract:This paper is an addendum to the author's previous paper [#Im20a]. Miller et al. [#MSM10] introduced a functor $\sigma\colon\mathbf{pCoarse}\to\mathbf{Sets}$, where $\mathbf{pCoarse}$ is the category of pointed coarse spaces and coarse maps. DeLyser et al. [#DLT13] introduced a functor $\varepsilon\colon\mathbf{pCoarse}\to\mathbf{Sets}$, and proved that $\varepsilon$ coincides with $\sigma$ on $\mathbf{pMetr}$ (the full subcategory of metrisable spaces). Using techniques of nonstandard analysis, the author in [#Ima20a] provided a functor $\iota\colon\mathscr{C}\subseteq\mathbf{pCoarse}\to\mathbf{Sets}$, where $\mathscr{C}$ is an arbitrary small full subcategory, and a natural transformation $\omega\colon\sigma\restriction\mathscr{C}\Rightarrow\iota$. The surjectivity of $\omega$ has been proved for all proper geodesic metrisable spaces, while the injectivity has remained open. In this note, we first pointed out that $\omega$ is the composition of two natural transformations $\varphi\restriction\mathscr{C}\colon\sigma\restriction\mathscr{C}\Rightarrow\varepsilon\restriction\mathscr{C}$ and $\omega'\colon\varepsilon\restriction\mathscr{C}\Rightarrow\iota$, and then show that $\omega'$ is injective for all spaces in $\mathscr{C}$. As a corollary, $\omega$ is injective for all metrisable spaces in $\mathscr{C}$. This partially answers some of the problems posed in [#Ima20a].
