Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex smooth Fano variety of dimension at least four. In this paper, we classify such $X$ when the pseudoindex is at least $n-2$ and the Picard number greater than one. We also discuss the relations between pseudoindex and other invariants of Fano varieties.

Abstract:For $n\geq 4$, let $X$ be a complex smooth Fano $n$-fold whose minimal anticanonical degree of non-free rational curves on $X$ is at least $n-2$. We classify extremal contractions of such varieties. As an application, we obtain a classification of Fano fourfolds with pseudoindex and Picard number greater than one. Combining this result with previous results, we complete the classification of smooth Fano $n$-folds with pseudoindex at least $n-2$ and Picard number greater than one. This can be seen as a generalization of various previous results. We also discuss the relations between pseudoindex and other invariants of Fano varieties.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a smooth Fano threefold over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic. Assume that $|-K_X|$ is very ample and each of the index and the Picard number is equal to one. We prove that $3 \leq g \leq 12$ and $g \neq 11$ for the genus $g$ of $X$. Moreover, we show that there exists no smooth curve on $X$ along which the blowup is Fano.

Abstract:Let f : Y → X be a finite morphism between Fano manifolds Y and X such that the Fano index of X is greater than 1. On the one hand, when both X and Y are fourfolds of Picard number 1, we show that the degree of f is bounded in terms of X and Y unless X ≅ P 4 ; hence, such X does not admit any non-isomorphic surjective endomorphism. On the other hand, when X = Y is either a fourfold or a del Pezzo manifold, we prove that, if f is an int-amplified endomorphism, then X is toric. Moreover, we classify all the singular quadrics admitting non-isomorphic endomorphisms.

On the automorphism groups of smooth Fano threefolds

Abstract:Let $\mathcal{X}$ be a smooth Fano threefold over the complex numbers of Picard rank $1$ with finite automorphism group. We give numerical restrictions on the order of the automorphism group $\mathrm{Aut}(\mathcal{X})$ provided the genus $g(\mathcal{X})\leq 10$ and $\mathcal{X}$ is not an ordinary smooth Gushel-Mukai threefold. More precisely, we show that the order $|\mathrm{Aut}(\mathcal{X})|$ divides a certain explicit number depending on the genus of $\mathcal{X}$. We use a classification of Fano threefolds in terms of complete intersections in homogeneous varieties and the previous paper of A. Gorinov and the author regarding the topology of spaces of regular sections.

Abstract:Over an algebraically closed field of positive characteristic, we classify smooth Fano threefolds of Picard number one whose anti-canonical linear systems are not very ample. Abstract:In characteristic 0, the Campana-Peternell conjecture claims that the only smooth Fano variety with nef tangent bundle should be homogeneous. In this paper, we study the positive characteristic version of the Campana-Peternell conjecture. In particular, we give an affirmative answer for Fano 4-folds with nef tangent bundle and Picard number greater than one.

Abstract:In this paper, inspired by work of Fano, Morin and Campana--Flenner, we give a full projective classification of (however singular) varieties of dimension 3 whose general hyperplane sections have negative Kodaira dimension, and we partly extend such a classification to varieties of dimension $n\geq 4$ whose general surface sections have negative Kodaira dimension. In particular we prove that a variety of dimension $n\geq 3$ whose general surface sections have negative Kodaira dimension is birationally equivalent to the product of a general surface section times $\p^{n-2}$ unless (possibly) if the variety is a cubic hypersurface.

Abstract:We describe the moduli space of rational curves on smooth Fano varieties of coindex 3. For varieties of dimension 5 or greater, we prove the moduli space has a single irreducible component for each effective numerical class of curves. For varieties of dimension 4, we describe families of rational curves in terms of Fujita's $a$-invariant. Our results verify Lehmann and Tanimoto's Geometric Manin's Conjecture for all smooth coindex 3 Fano varieties over the complex numbers.

Abstract:We show that the set of Fano varieties (with arbitrary singularities) whose anticanonical divisors have large Seshadri constants satisfies certain weak and birational boundedness. We also classify singular Fano varieties of dimension $n$ whose anticanonical divisors have Seshadri constants at least $n$, generalizing an earlier result of Liu and the author.

Abstract:We study Fano manifolds $X$ admitting an unsplit dominating family of rational curves and we prove that the Generalized Mukai Conjecture holds if $X$ has pseudoindex $i_X = (\dim X)/3$ or dimension $\dim X=6$. We also show that this conjecture is true for all Fano manifolds with $i_X > (\dim X)/3$.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a Fano manifold of Picard number one. We establish a lower bound for the second Chern class of $X$ in terms of its index and degree. As an application, if $Y$ is a $n$-dimensional Fano manifold with $-K_Y=(n-3)H$ for some ample divisor $H$, we prove that $h^0(Y,H)\geq n-2$. Moreover, we show that the rational map defined by $\vert mH\vert$ is birational for $m\geq 5$, and the linear system $\vert mH\vert$ is basepoint free for $m\geq 7$. As a by-product, the pluri-anti-canonical systems of singular weak Fano varieties of dimension at most $4$ are also investigated.
