Abstract:We derive algebraic equations on the coefficients of the implicit equation to characterize all Dupin cyclides passing through a fixed circle. The results are applied to solve the basic problems in CAGD about blending of Dupin cyclides along circles.

Abstract:Dupin cyclides are classical algebraic surfaces of low degree. Recently, they have gained popularity in computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) and architecture owing to the fact that they contain many circles. We derive algebraic conditions that fully characterize the Dupin cyclides passing through a fixed circle. The results are applied to the basic problem in CAGD of the blending of Dupin cyclides along circles.

Abstract:Triple orthogonal coordinate systems having coordinate lines as circles or straight lines are considered. Technically, they are represented by trilinear rational quaternionic maps and are called Dupin cyclidic cubes, naturally generalizing the bilinear rational quaternionic parametrizations of principal patches of Dupin cyclides. Dupin cyclidic cubes and their singularities are studied and classified up to Möbius equivalency in Euclidean space.

Abstract:There are no known analytic solutions to the force-free magnetic field equations in coordinates representing Dupin cyclides. The fact that the curvature lines of Dupin cyclides are all circles is used here to derive a force-free magnetic field on the surface of an elliptic Dupin cyclide.

Abstract:The method of moving frames in Lie sphere geometry has produced significant results in the classification of Dupin hypersurfaces in spheres. What is the secret of its effectiveness? The answer emerges in the classification of nonumbilic isoparametric surfaces in the space form geometries. Using the method of moving frames, the proof of this classification is an elementary exercise. The same proof classifies the cyclides of Dupin in Möbius geometry and finally in Lie sphere geometry, where all nonumbilic Dupin immersions are Lie sphere congruent to each other.

Abstract:Dumortier and Roussarie proposed a conjecture in their paper (2009, Discrete Con. Dyn. Sys., 2,723-781): For any \begin{document}$ q\in {\mathbb{N}} $\end{document} , the Abelian integrals \begin{document}$ J_{2j+1}(h) = \int_{\gamma_h}x^{2j-1}\,\mathrm dy $\end{document} , \begin{document}$ j = 0, 1, 2, \cdots, q $\end{document} , form a strict Chebyshev system on intervals \begin{document}$ h\in (0, \frac{1}{2}] $\end{document} , where \begin{document}$ \gamma_h = \{(x, y)| \mathrm e^{-2y}(y+\frac{1}{2}-x^2) = h\} $\end{document} . If this conjecture holds, then they obtain the precise upper bound of the number of limit cycles that appear near a slow-fast Hopf point of any codimension. In the present paper we develop a method to estimate the number of zeros of Abelian integrals and prove this conjecture.

Abstract:The cyclide spline surface is a G1 smooth piecewise surface composed of Dupin cyclide patches, thus inheriting several favorable geometric properties of the Dupin cyclide, such as the closeness under offset operation. Due to the lack of shape flexibility of Dupin cyclides, it has been an outstanding problem to use a G1 smooth piecewise Dupin cyclide surface to model a free-form shape. We solve this problem by proposing a novel method for approximating a given free-form smooth surface with a cyclide spline surface. The key to our solution is increasing the fitting flexibility of a cyclide spline by relaxing and optimizing both the vertices and surface frames of the cyclide spline simultaneously in a global manner. Furthermore, we apply patch subdivision for local surface refinement and use spherical patches to fill in umbilical regions. The effectiveness of our method is demonstrated on a variety of surface shapes.

Abstract:In this paper we show that a Dupin hypersurface with constant Möbius curvatures is Möbius equivalent to either an isoparametric hypersurface in the sphere or a cone over an isoparametric hypersurface in a sphere. We also show that a Dupin hypersurface with constant Laguerre curvatures is Laguerre equivalent to a flat Laguerre isoparametric hypersurface. These results solve the major issues related to the conjectures of Cecil et al on the classification of Dupin hypersurfaces.

Abstract:For an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic 0, we give a cycle-theoretic description of the additive 4-term motivic exact sequence associated to the additive dilogarithm of J.-L. Cathelineau, that is the derivative of the Bloch-Wigner function, via the cubical additive higher Chow groups under one assumption. The 4-term functional equation of Cathelineau, an additive analogue of Abel's 5-term functional equation, is also discussed cycle-theoretically.

Abstract:Let $d\geq 2$ be an integer and let $\omega_1,\cdots ,\omega_d$ be moduli of continuity in a specified class which contains the moduli of H\"{o}lder continuity. Let $f_k$, $k\in\{1,\cdots,d\}$, be $C^{1+\omega_k}$ orientation preserving diffeomorphisms of the circle and $f_1,\cdots, f_d$ commute with each other. We prove that if the rotation numbers of $f_k$'s are independent over the rationals and $\omega_1(t)\cdots\omega_d(t)=t\omega(t)$ with $\lim_{t\rightarrow 0^+}\omega(t)=0$, then $f_1,\cdots,f_d$ are simultaneously (topologically) conjugate to rigid rotations.

Abstract:The circle method has been successfully used over the last century to study rational points on hypersurfaces. More recently, a version of the method over function fields, combined with spreading out techniques, has led to a range of results about moduli spaces of rational curves on hypersurfaces. In this paper a version of the circle method is implemented in the setting of the Grothendieck ring of varieties. This allows us to approximate the classes of these moduli spaces directly, without relying on point counting, and leads to a deeper understanding of their geometry.

Abstract:This paper, makes a research on relations between the cyclotomic classes, Gaussian periods and rcirculant matrices, and create a correspondence between Gaussian periods and rcirculant matrices. It paraphrases Gaussian periods with a series of special rcirculant matrices Hk, and shows that they have some similar properties, such as the linear property of multiplication etc. Furthermore, It researches Gaussian periods polynomials of Hk and their inverse symmetry property and obtains that all Hk have the same characteristics and the same eigenvalues which are independent of the choice of k amd r; and find the sufficient and necessary condition of Hk's having the inverse symmetry property. All these results are all meaningful.

Abstract:A result of Green and Griffiths states that for the generic curve $C$ of genus $g \geq 4$ with the canonical divisor $K$, its Faber--Pandharipande 0-cycle $K\times K-(2g-2)K_\Delta$ on $C\times C$ is nontorsion in the Chow group of rational equivalence classes. For Shimura curves, however, we show that their Faber--Pandharipande 0-cycles are rationally equivalent to 0. This is predicted by a conjecture of Beilinson and Bloch.

Blender-producing mechanisms and a dichotomy for local dynamics for heterodimensional cycles

Abstract:Blenders are special hyperbolic sets used to produce various robust dynamical phenomena which appear fragile at first glance. We prove for $C^r$ diffeomorphisms ($r=2,\dots,\infty,\omega$) that blenders naturally exist (without perturbation) near non-degenerate heterodimensional cycles of coindex-1, and the existence is determined by arithmetic properties of moduli of topological conjugacy for diffeomorphisms with heterodimensional cycles. In particular, we obtain a $C^r$-generic dichotomy for dynamics in any small neighborhood $U$ of a non-degenerate heterodimensional cycle: either there exist infinitely many blenders accumulating on the cycle, forming robust heterodimensional dynamics in most cases, or there are no orbits other than those constituting the cycle lying entirely in $U$.

On Dubins Paths to a Circle

Abstract:This paper is concerned with characterizing the shortest path of a Dubins vehicle from a position with a prescribed heading angle to a target circle with the final heading tangential to the target circle. Such a shortest path is of significant importance as it is usually required in real-world scenarios, such as taking a snapshot of a forbidden region or loitering above a ground sensor to collect data by a fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicle in a minimum time. By applying Pontryagin's maximum principle, some geometric properties for the shortest path are established {without considering any assumption on the relationship between the minimum turning radius and radius of the target circle}, showing that the shortest path must lie in a sufficient family of 12 types. By employing those geometric properties, the analytical solution to each type is devised so that the length of each type can be computed in a constant time. In addition, some properties depending on problem parameters are found so that the shortest path can be computed without checking all the 12 types. Finally, some numerical simulations are presented, illustrating and validating the developments of the paper.

Abstract:Let $k$ be a field of positive characteristic $p$, and $X$ be a separated of finite type $k$-scheme of dimension $d$. We construct a cycle map from the additive cycle complex to the residual complex of Serre-Grothendieck coherent duality theory. This map is compatible with a cubical version of the map constructed in [Ren23] <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2104.09662" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2104.09662">arXiv:2104.09662</a> when $k$ is perfect. As a corollary, we get injectivity statements for (additive) higher Chow groups as well as for motivic cohomology (with modulus) with $\mathbb{Z}/p$ coefficients when $k$ is algebraically closed.

Abstract:Using the compactified universal jacobian over the moduli space of stable marked curves, we give an expression in terms of natural classes of the zero section of the compactified universal jacobian the (rational) Chow ring. After extending variants of the Abel-Jacobi map to a locus containing curves of treelike type we give a formula for the pullback of the said zero section along these extensions. The same approach is also applied to recover known formulas for the pullback of theta divisors to the moduli space of marked stable curves.
