Integral points on varieties with infinite étale fundamental group

Abstract:We study integral points on varieties with infinite étale fundamental groups. More precisely, for a number field $F$ and $X/F$ a smooth projective variety, we prove that for any geometrically Galois cover $\varphi\colon Y \to X$ of degree at least $2\dim(X)^2$, there exists an ample line bundle $\mathscr{L}$ on $Y$ such that for a general member $D$ of the complete linear system $|\mathscr{L}|$, $D$ is geometrically irreducible and any set of $\varphi(D)$-integral points on $X$ is finite. We apply this result to varieties with infinite étale fundamental group to give new examples of irreducible, ample divisors on varieties for which finiteness of integral points is provable.

Integral Cayley graphs over a finite symmetric algebra

Abstract:A graph is called integral if its eigenvalues are integers. In this article, we provide the necessary and sufficient conditions for a Cayley graph over a finite symmetric algebra $R$ to be integral. This generalizes the work of So who studies the case where $R$ is the ring of integers modulo $n.$ We also explain some number-theoretic constructions of finite symmetric algebras arising from global fields, which we hope could pave the way for future studies on Paley graphs associated with a finite Hecke character.

On Integral Sum Graphs

Abstract:A graph G is said to be an integral sum graph if its nodes can be given a labeling f with distinct integers, so that for any two distinct nodes u and v of G, uv is an edge of G if and only if f(u)+f(v)=f(w) for some node w in G. A node of G is called a saturated node if it is adjacent to every other node of G. We show that any integral sum graph which is not K"3 has at most two saturated nodes. We determine the structure for all integral sum graphs with exactly two saturated nodes, and give an upper bound for the number of edges of a connected integral sum graph with no saturated nodes. We introduce a method of identification on constructing new connected integral sum graphs from given integral sum graphs with a saturated node. Moreover, we show that every graph is an induced subgraph of a connected integral sum graph. Miscellaneous related results are also presented.

Abstract:For f : R 2 → R , let Γ R( f ) be a two‐dimensional algebraically defined graph, that is, a bipartite graph where each partite set is a copy of R 2 and two vertices (a , a 2 ) and [x , x 2 ] are adjacent if and only if a 2 + x 2 = f(a , x ) . It is known that Γ R(X Y ) has girth 6 and can be extended to the point‐line incidence graph of the classical real projective plane. However, it was unknown whether there exists f ∈ R[X , Y ] such that Γ R( f ) has girth 6 and is nonisomorphic to Γ R(X Y ) . This paper answers this question affirmatively and thus provides a construction of a nonclassical real projective plane. This paper also studies the diameter and girth of Γ R( f ) for families of bivariate functions f .

Abstract:Integer geometry on a plane deals with objects whose vertices are points in $\mathbb Z^2$. The congruence relation is provided by all affine transformations preserving the lattice $\mathbb Z^2$. In this paper we study circumscribed circles in integer geometry. We introduce the notions of integer and rational circumscribed circles of integer sets. We determine the conditions for a finite integer set to admit an integer circumscribed circle and describe the spectra of radii for integer and rational circumscribed circles.

Rational distances from given rational points in the plane

Abstract:In this paper we consider sets of points in the plane with rational distances from a prescribed finite set of $n$ rational points. We show that for $n\le 3$, the points are dense in the real topology. On the other hand, for $n\ge 4$, we show that they correspond to rational points in a surface of general type, hence conjecturally degenerate. However, at the present, we lack methods to prove this, given the fact that the surface is simply-connected, as we shall show. We give explicit proofs as well as describe in detail the geometry of the surfaces involved. In addition we discuss certain cases of density of points with distances in certain ring of integers.

Abstract:In this paper, we study graphs whose matching polynomial have only integer zeros. A graph is matching integral if the zeros of its matching polynomial are all integers. We characterize all matching integral traceable graphs.. We show that apart from K7 n (E(C3) [ E(C4)) there is no connected k-regular matching integral graph if k ? 2. It is also shown that if G is a graph with a perfect matching, then its matching polynomial has a zero in the interval (0, 1]. Finally, we describe all claw-free matching integral graphs.

Abstract:We introduce a type of graph integrals which are holomorphic analogs of configuration space integrals. We prove their (ultraviolet) finiteness by considering a compactification of the moduli space of graphs with metrics, and study their failure to be holomorphic.

Abstract:A graph drawing in the plane is called an almost embedding if images of any two non-adjacent simplices (i.e. vertices or edges) are disjoint. We introduce integer invariants of almost embeddings: winding number, cyclic and triodic Wu numbers. We construct almost embeddings realizing some values of these invariants. We prove some relations between the invariants. We study values realizable as invariants of some almost embedding, but not of any embedding. This paper is expository and is accessible to mathematicians not specialized in the area (and to students). However elementary, this paper is motivated by frontline of research.

Abstract:An infinite-type surface $\Sigma$ is of type $\mathcal{S}$ if it has an isolated puncture $p$ and admits shift maps. This includes all infinite-type surfaces with an isolated puncture outside of two sporadic classes. Given such a surface, we construct an infinite family of intrinsically infinite-type mapping classes that act loxodromically on the relative arc graph $\mathcal{A}(\Sigma, p)$. J. Bavard produced such an element for the plane minus a Cantor set, and our result gives the first examples of such mapping classes for all other surfaces of type $\mathcal{S}$. The elements we construct are the composition of three shift maps on $\Sigma$, and we give an alternate characterization of these elements as a composition of a pseudo-Anosov on a finite-type subsurface of $\Sigma$ and a standard shift map. We then explicitly find their limit points on the boundary of $\mathcal{A}(\Sigma,p)$ and their limiting geodesic laminations. Finally, we show that these infinite-type elements can be used to prove that Map$(\Sigma,p)$ has an infinite-dimensional space of quasimorphisms.
Invariant graphs in Julia sets and decompositions of rational maps

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that for any post-critically finite rational map $f$ on the Riemann sphere $\overline{\mathbb{C}}$ and for each sufficiently large integer $n$, there exists a finite and connected graph $G$ in the Julia set of $f$, such that $f^n(G)\subset G$, $G$ contains all post-critical points in the Julia set and every component of $\overline{\mathbb{C}}\setminus G$ contains at most one post-critical point in the Fatou set. The proof is based on the cluster-\Sie\ decomposition of post-critically finite rational maps.

Abstract:For any positive definite rational quadratic form $q$ of $n$ variables let $G(\mathbb{Q}^n, q)$ denote the graph with vertices $\mathbb{Q}^n$ and $x, y \in \mathbb{Q}^n$ connected iff $q(x - y) = 1$. This notion generalises standard Euclidean distance graphs. In this article we study these graphs and show how to find the exact value of clique number of the $G(\mathbb{Q}^n, q)$. We also prove rational analogue of the Beckman--Quarles theorem that any unit-preserving mapping of $\mathbb{Q}^n$ is an isometry.

Abstract:Building on the work of Avraham, Rubin, and Shelah, we aim to build a variant of the Fraïssé theory for uncountable models built from finite submodels. With this aim, we generalize the notion of an increasing set of reals to other structures. As an application, we prove that the following is consistent: there exists an uncountable, separable metric space X with rational distances, such that every uncountable partial 1-1 function from X to X is an isometry on an uncountable subset. We aim for a general theory of structures with this kind of properties. This includes results about the automorphism groups, and partial classification results.

Integral Cayley graphs of symmetric groups on transpositions

Abstract:We study subsets $T$ consisting of some transpositions $(i,j)$ of the symmetric group $S_n$ on $\{1,\dots,n\}$ such that the Cayley graph $\Gamma_T:=Cay(S_n,T)$ is an integral graph, i.e., all eigenvalues of an adjacency matrix of $\Gamma_T$ are integers. Graph properties of $\Gamma_T$ are determined in terms of ones of the graph $G_T$ whose vertex set is $\{1,\dots,n\}$ and $\{i,j\}$ is an edge if and only if $(i,j)\in T$. Here we prove that if $G_T$ is a tree then $\Gamma_T$ is integral if and only if $T$ is isomorphic to the star graph $K_{1,n-1}$, answering Problem 5 of [Electron. J. Comnin., 29(2) (2022) \# P2.9]. Problem 6 of the latter article asks to find necessary and sufficient conditions on $T$ for integralness of $Cay(S_n,T)$ without any further assumption on $T$. We show that if $G_T$ is a graph which we call it a ``generalized complete multipartite graph" then $Cay(S_n,T)$ is integral. We conjecture that $Cay(S_n,T)$ is integral only if $G_T$ is a generalized complete multipartitie graph. To support the latter conjecture we show its validity whenever $G_T$ is some classes of graphs including cycles and cubic graphs.

Abstract:In 1983, Borowiecki and Jóźwiak posed the problem "Characterize those graphs which have purely imaginary per-spectrum." This problem is still open. The most general result, although a partial solution, was given in 2004 by Yan and Zhang, who show that if G is a bipartite graph containing no subgraph which is an even subdivision of K2,3 , then it has purely imaginary per-spectrum. Zhang and Li in 2012 proved that such graphs are planar and admit a Pfaffian orientation. In this article, we describe how to construct graphs with purely imaginary per-spectrum having a subgraph which is an even subdivision of K2,3 (planar and nonplanar) using coalescence of rooted graphs.
