Abstract:We study diverse parametrized versions of the operad of associative algebra, where the parameter are taken in an associative semigroup $\Omega$ (generalization of matching or family associative algebras) or in its cartesian square (two-parameters associative algebras). We give a description of the free algebras on these operads, study their formal series and prove that they are Koszul when the set of parameters is finite. We also study operadic morphisms between the operad of classical associative algebras and these objects, and links with other types of algebras (diassociative, dendriform, post-Lie...).

Two associative operads of packed words

Abstract:The associative operad is a central structure in operad theory, defined on the linear span of the set of permutations. We build two analogs of the associative operad on the linear span of the set of packed words which turn out to be set-theoretical. By seeing a packed word as a surjective map between two finite sets, our first operad is graded by the cardinality of the domain and the second one, by the cardinality of the codomain. In the same way as the associative operad of permutations contains as quotients the duplicial and interstice operads, we derive similar structures for our operads of packed words. We propose also an analogue of Dynkin idempotent of Zie algebras in this context of operads of packed words.

We present in particular four topics were it plays a central role: lattice congruences of the weak order and their quotientopes, cluster algebras and their generalized associahedra, nested complexes and their nestohedra, and operads and the associahedron diagonal.

Abstract:We construct a family of Drinfeld associators interpolating between the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov associator, the Alekseev-Torossian associator and the anti-Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov associator. We give explicit integral formulæ for the family of elements of the Grothendieck-Teichmüller Lie algebra tangent to the family of associators. As an application, we settle a conjecture of Pavel Etingof about the Alekseev-Torossian associator. Furthermore, we give explicit integral formulæ for the family of stable formality morphisms corresponding (in a precise way) to the above family of associators, and for the family of graph cohomology classes corresponding to the above family of elements of the Grothendieck-Teichmüller Lie algebra. It follows in particular that the ``logarithmic'' Kontsevich formality morphism corresponds to the Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov associator.

Abstract:We state results from noncommutative deformation theory of modules over an associative $k$-algebra $A,$ $k$ a field, necessary for this work. We define a set of $A$-modules $\operatorname{aSpec}A$ containing the simple modules, whose elements we call spectral, for which there exists a topology where the simple modules are the closed points. Applying results from deformation theory we prove that there exists a sheaf of associative rings $\mathcal O_X$ on the topological space $X=\operatorname{aSpec}A$ giving it the structure of a pointed ringed space. In general, an associative variety $X$ is a ringed space with an open covering $\{U_i=\operatorname{aSpec}{A_i}\}_{i\in I}.$ When $A$ is a commutative $k$-algebra, $\operatorname{aSpec}A\simeq\spec A,$ and so the category $\cat{aVar}_k$ of associative varieties is an extension of the category of varieties $\cat{Var}_k,$ i.e. there exists a faithfully full functor $I:\cat{Var}_k\rightarrow\cat{aVar}_k.$ Our main result says that any associative variety $X$ is $\operatorname{aSpec}(\mathcal O_X(X))$ for the $k$-algebra $\mathcal O_X(X),$ and so any study of varieties can be reduced to the study of the associative algebra $\mathcal O_X(X).$

Abstract:We prove that the homotopy theory of $N_\infty$ operads is equivalent to a homotopy theory of discrete operads, and we construct free and associative operadic realizations of every indexing system. This resolves a conjecture of Blumberg and Hill in the affirmative.

Abstract:This is a survey on recent progress in algebraic deformation theory and the application of algebraic operads to its study. We review the classical homotopical tools in the theory of algebraic operads, namely Koszul duality. We give concrete examples of applications of such tools to various flavours of problems related to deformations of algebraic structures. We also study formal moduli problems and related notions from the operadic point of view.

Abstract:In this paper we show that the relation between Kajiura-Stasheff's OCHA and A. Voronov's swiss-cheese operad is analogous to the relation between SH Lie algebras and the little discs operad. More precisely, we show that the OCHA operad is quasi-isomorphic to the operad of top-dimensional homology classes of the swiss-cheese operad.

Abstract:Given two operations and on a set S , an operation on S is said to be a collaboration between and if for all , . Another term for collaborations is two-option operations. We are interested in learning what associative collaborations of two given operations and there may be. We do not require that and themselves be associative. For this project, as an initial experiment, we consider Plus-Minus operations (i.e. collaborations between addition and subtraction on an abelian group) and Plus-Times operations (i.e. collaborations between the addition and multiplication operations on a semiring.) Our study of Plus-Minus operations focuses on the additive integers but extends to ordered groups. For Plus Times operations, we make some headway in the case of the semiring of natural numbers. We produce an exhaustive list of associative collaborations between the usual addition and multiplication on the natural numbers . The Plus-Times operations we found are all examples of a type of construction which we define here and that we call augmentations by multidentities . An augmentation by multidentities combines two separate magmas A and B to create another, A ( B ), having as underlying set, and in such a way that the elements of B act as identities over those of A . Hence, B consists of a sort of multiple identities (explaining the moniker multidentities.) When A and B are both semigroups then so is A ( B ). Understanding the connection between certain collaborations and augmentation by multidenties removes, in several cases, the need for cumbersome computations to verify associativity. A final section discusses connections between group collaborations and skew braces.

Operads on graphs: extending the pre-Lie operad and general construction

Abstract:The overall aim of this paper is to define a structure of graph operads, thus generalizing the celebrated pre-Lie operad on rooted trees. More precisely, we define two operads on multigraphs, and exhibit a non trivial link between them and the pre-Lie and Kontsevich- Willwacher operads. We study one of these operads in more detail. While its structure is too involved to exhibit a description by generators and relations, we show that it has interesting finitely generated sub-operads, with links with the commutative and the magmatic commutative operads. In particular, one of them is Koszul and this allows us to compute its Koszul dual. Finally, we introduce a new framework on species and operads and a general way to define operads on multigraphs.

A note on the smash product and regular associativity

Abstract:This note is about the smash product of pointed topological spaces, without relying on some convenient subcategory. We deal with its partial associativity properties and their connection with the function spaces, introducing a property of regular associativity related to the colax monoidal structure of the product. We also study a large class of triples of pointed spaces where associativity fails. Lax and colax monoidal structures are unusual and interesting, in category theory. Some parts of this note will be obvious to a topologist and others to a categorist, in order to take into account both backgrounds.

Abstract:For O an operad in k -vector spaces, F O is defined to be the category of k -linear functors from the PROP associated to O to k -vector spaces. Given a binary operation μ ∈ O ( 2 ) that satisfies a right Leibniz condition, the full subcategory F O μ ⊂ F O is introduced here and its properties studied. This is motivated by the case of the Lie operad Lie , where μ is taken to be the generator. By previous results of the author, when k = Q , F Lie is equivalent to the category of analytic functors on the opposite gr op of the category gr of finitely-generated free groups. The main result shows that F Lie μ identifies with the category of outer analytic functors on gr op , as introduced in earlier work of the author with Vespa. Using this identification, this theory has applications to the study of the higher Hochschild homology functors related to work of Turchin and Willwacher.

Lattice operads and operad filtrations

Abstract:We elaborate on the notion of a filtration of an operad defined in terms of a lattice-valued operad serving as an indexing object. That covers ordinary integer-indexed filtrations of associative algebras and operads as a special case, yet the notion appears to be natural enough to encompass examples of other kind as well. The characteristic property of lattice operads is that of a certain distributivity of partial compositions with respect to meets and joins. We observe that some well-known families of lattices of combinatorial origin, such as Tamari lattices, assemble to operads subject to this particular property. Other examples include an operad of integer paritions supported on Young's lattice, operads of integer compositions of types $A, B$ and $D$, which we relate to operads of regular polytopes. We discuss the partial compatibility of the weak order on the symmetric group with the structure of the permutations operad.

Abstract:It is shown how double categories provide a direct abstract approach to coloured operads; namely, product-preserving normal lax functors from (Pb C)^op (the opposite of the double category of pullback squares in C) to Cat (the double category of functors and profunctors) can be seen as generalized operads, the standard ones arising when C = Set_f. In this context, generalized symmetric monoidal categories are considered, in particular those arising from indexed categories with sums or products.

Abstract:We introduce a construction that associates, to each finite dimensional k-vector space V, a family of projective k-varieties that comes equipped with the structure of a operad in the category of k-schemes. When dim V = 1, this operad contains, as a suboperad, the family of moduli spaces of stably marked rational curves. For general V, our operad contains the family of Chen-Gibney-Krashen moduli spaces of stably marked trees of projective spaces as a suboperad. We realize our operad as part of a larger theory that describes how to construct operads from suitable functors. Given a category C that satisfies conditions allowing us to consider the operation of "substituting a value into an argument" within C, and given any functor F on C satisfying a variant of right-exactness, we construct a version of a set-valued operad whose inputs are given by objects in C. When C happens to be the category of nonempty finite sets, we obtain operads in the classic sense. Finally, we show that in many cases it is possible to realize these operads as disjoint unions of quiver Grassmannians.
Associative-commutative spectra for some varieties of groupoids

Abstract:The associative spectrum of a groupoid (i.e., a set with a binary operation) measures its nonassociativity while the associative-commutative spectrum measures both nonassociativity and noncommutativity of the groupoid. The two spectra are also the coefficients of the Hilbert series of certain operads. We establish upper bounds for the two spectra of various varieties of groupoids defined by different sets of identities and provide examples (often groupoids with three elements) for which the upper bounds are achieved. Our results have connections to many interesting combinatorial objects and integer sequences and naturally lead to some questions for future studies.
