Abstract:We characterize the number of points for which there exist non-empty Terracini sets of points in $\mathbb{P}^n$. Then we study minimally Terracini finite sets of points in $\mathbb{P}^n$ and we obtain a complete description in the case of $\mathbb{P}^3$, when the number of points is less than twice the degree of the linear system.

Abstract:We introduce and study properties of the Terracini locus of projective varieties X, which is the locus of finite subsets S of X such that 2S fails to impose independent conditions to a linear system L. Terracini loci are relevant in the study of interpolation problems over double points in special position, but they also enter naturally in the study of special loci contained in secant varieties to projective varieties. We find some criteria which exclude that a set S belongs to the Terracini locus. Furthermore, in the case where X is a Veronese variety, we bound the dimension of the Terracini locus and we determine examples in which the locus has codimension 1 in the symmetric product of X.

Abstract:After a few results on curves, we characterize the smallest nonempty Terracini loci of Veronese and Segre-Veronese varieties. For del Pezzo surfaces, we give a full description of the Terracini loci. Moreover, we present an algorithm to explicitly compute the Terracini loci of a given variety.

Abstract:We study subsets S of curves X whose double structure does not impose independent conditions to a linear series L, but there are divisors D in |L| singular at all points of S. These subsets form the Terracini loci of X. We investigate Terracini loci, with a special look towards their non-emptiness, mainly in the case of canonical curves, and in the case of space curves.

Abstract:The Terracini locus $\mathbb{T}(n, d; x)$ is the locus of all finite subsets $S \subset \mathbb{P}^n$ of cardinality $x$ such that $\langle S \rangle = \mathbb{P}^n$, $h^0(\mathcal{I}_{2S}(d)) > 0$, and $h^1(\mathcal{I}_{2S}(d)) > 0$. The celebrated Alexander-Hirschowitz Theorem classifies the triples $(n,d,x)$ for which $\dim\mathbb{T}(n, d; x)=xn$. Here we fully characterize the next step in the case $n=2$, namely, we prove that $\mathbb{T}(2,d;x)$ has at least one irreducible component of dimension $2x-1$ if and only if either $(d,x)=(6,10)$ or $(d,x)=(4,4)$ or $d\equiv 1,2 \pmod{3}$ and $x=(d+2)(d+1)/6$.

Abstract:This paper deals with superminimal surfaces in complex space forms by using theFrenet framing. We formulate explicitly the length squares of the higher fundamental forms andthe higher curvatures for superminimal surfaces in terms of the metric of the surface and the Khlerangle of the immersion. Particularly, some curvature pinching theorems for minimal 2-spheres in acomplex projective space are given and a new characterization of the Veronese sequence is obtained.

Abstract:We study Waring rank decompositions for cubic forms of rank $n+2$ in $n+1$ variables. In this setting, we prove that if a concise form has more than one non-redundant decomposition of length $n+2$, then all such decompositions share at least $n-3$ elements, and the remaining elements lie in a special configuration. Following this result, we give a detailed description of the $(n+2)$-th Terracini locus of the third Veronese embedding of $n$-dimensional projective space.

Minimal surfaces with low genus in lens spaces

Abstract:Given a Riemannian $\mathbb{RP}^3$ with a bumpy metric or a metric of positive Ricci curvature, we show that there either exist four distinct minimal real projective planes, or exist one minimal real projective plane together with two distinct minimal $2$-spheres. Our proof is based on a variant multiplicity one theorem for the Simon-Smith min-max theory under certain equivariant settings. In particular, we show under the positive Ricci assumption that $\mathbb{RP}^3$ contains at least four distinct minimal real projective planes and four distinct minimal tori. Additionally, the number of minimal tori can be improved to five for a generic positive Ricci metric on $\mathbb{RP}^3$ by the degree method. Moreover, using the same strategy, we show that in the lens space $L(4m,2m\pm 1)$, $m\geq 1$, with a bumpy metric or a metric of positive Ricci curvature, there either exist $N(m)$ numbers of distinct minimal Klein bottles, or exist one minimal Klein bottle and three distinct minimal $2$-spheres, where $N(1)=4$, $N(m)=2$ for $m\geq 2$, and the first case happens under the positive Ricci assumption.

Abstract:In this work, using maximal elements in generalized Weierstrass semigroups and its relationship with pure gaps, we extend the results in \cite{CMT2024} and provide a way to completely determine the set of pure gaps at several rational places in an arbitrary function field $F$ over a finite field and its cardinality. As an example, we determine the cardinality and a simple explicit description of the set of pure gaps at several rational places distinct to the infinity place on Kummer extensions, which is a different characterization from that presented by Hu and Yang in \cite{HY2018}. Furthermore, we present some applications in coding theory and AG codes with good parameters.

Topological control for min-max free boundary minimal surfaces

Abstract:We establish general bounds on the topology of free boundary minimal surfaces obtained via min-max methods in compact, three-dimensional ambient manifolds with mean convex boundary. We prove that the first Betti number is lower semicontinuous along min-max sequences converging in the sense of varifolds to free boundary minimal surfaces. In the orientable case, we obtain an even stronger result which implies that if the number of boundary components increases in the varifold limit, then the genus decreases at least as much. We also present several compelling applications, such as the variational construction of a free boundary minimal trinoid in the Euclidean unit ball.

Abstract:We prove that in a closed Riemannian manifold with dimension between $3$ and $7$, either there are minimal hypersurfaces with arbitrarily large area, or there exist uncountably many stable minimal hypersurfaces. Moreover, the latter case has a very pathological Cantor set structure which does not show up in certain manifolds. Among the applications, we prove that there exist minimal hypersurfaces with arbitrarily large area in analytic manifolds. In the proof, we use the Almgren-Pitts min-max theory proposed by Marques-Neves, the ideas developed by Song in his proof of Yau's conjecture, and the resolution of the generic multiplicity-one conjecture by Zhou.

We bound the minimal gap for $(\{\boldsymbol{a}_n\boldsymbol{\alpha}\}),$ $(\{a_n\boldsymbol{\alpha}\})$ and $(\{\boldsymbol{a}_n\cdot\boldsymbol{\alpha}\})$ in terms of cardinality of the difference set of $a_n$ and $\boldsymbol{a}_n,$ where $a_n$ and $a_n^{(1)},\dots,a_n^{(d)}$ are sequences of distinct integers.

Abstract:We study periodic tessellations of the Euclidean space with unequal cells arising from the minimization of perimeter functionals. Existence results and qualitative properties of minimizers are discussed for different classes of problems, involving local and non-local perimeters. Regularity is then addressed in the general case under volume penalization, and in the planar case with the standard perimeter, prescribing the volumes of each cell. Finally, we show the optimality of hexagonal tilings among partitions with almost equal areas.

Abstract:In this paper we study pluricanonical maps of minimal projective 3-folds of general type with geometric genus 1, 2 and 3. We go in the direction pioneered by Enriques and Bombieri, and other authors, pinning down, for low projective genus, a finite list of exceptions to the birationality of some pluricanonical map. In particular, apart from a finite list of weighted baskets, we prove the birationality of φ_16, φ_6 and φ_5 respectively.

Abstract:For any , let denote the space containing all locally Lipschitz minimal graphs of dimension n and of arbitrary codimension m in Euclidean space with uniformly bounded 2-dilation of their graphic functions. In this paper, we show that this is a natural class to extend structural results known for codimension one. In particular, we prove that any tangent cone C of at infinity has multiplicity one. This enables us to get a Neumann–Poincaré inequality on stationary indecomposable components of C . A corollary is a Liouville theorem for M . For small (we can take any ), we prove that (i) for , M is flat; (ii) for and a non-flat M , any tangent cone of M at infinity is a multiplicity one quasi-cylindrical minimal cone in whose singular set has dimension .
