Abstract:We characterize the simply connected domains $\Omega\subsetneq\mathbb{C}$ that exhibit the Denjoy-Wolff Property, meaning that every holomorphic self-map of $\Omega$ without fixed points has a Denjoy-Wolff point. We demonstrate that this property holds if and only if every automorphism of $\Omega$ without fixed points in $\Omega$ has a Denjoy-Wolff point. Furthermore, we establish that the Denjoy-Wolff Property is equivalent to the existence of what we term an ``$H$-limit'' at each boundary point for a Riemann map associated with the domain. The $H$-limit condition is stronger than the existence of non-tangential limits but weaker than unrestricted limits. As an additional result of our work, we prove that there exist bounded simply connected domains where the Denjoy-Wolff Property holds but which are not visible in the sense of Bharali and Zimmer. Since visibility is a sufficient condition for the Denjoy-Wolff Property, this proves that in general it is not necessary.

Abstract:The paper contains a very simple proof of the classical Hasumi's theorem that each usco mapping defined on an extremally disconnected space has a continuous selection. Abstract:We connect recent conjectures and observations pertaining to geodesics, attractor flows, Laplacian eigenvalues and the geometry of moduli spaces by using that attractor flows are geodesics. For toroidal compactifications, attractor points are related to (degenerate) masses of the Laplacian on the target space, and also to the Laplacian on the moduli space. We also explore compactifications of M-Theory to $5$D on a Calabi-Yau threefold and argue that geodesics are unique in a special set of classes, providing further evidence for a recent conjecture by Raman and Vafa. Finally, we describe the role of the marked moduli space in $4$d $\mathcal{N} = 2$ compactifications. We study split attractor flows in an explicit example of the one-parameter family of quintics and discuss setups where flops to isomorphic Calabi-Yau manifolds exist.

Almost Representations of Groupoids on Banach Bundles

Abstract:We extend an old result of de la Harpe and Karoubi, concerning almost representations of compact groups, to proper groupoids admitting continuous Haar measure systems. As an application, we establish the existence of sufficiently many continuous representations of such groupoids on finite-rank Hilbert bundles locally, and use this fact to prove a new generalization of the classical Tannaka duality theorem to groupoids in a purely topological setting.

Abstract:We give a short proof of Wolff-Denjoy theorem for (not necessarily smooth) strictly convex domains. With similar techniques we are also able to prove a Wolff-Denjoy theorem for weakly convex domains, again without any smoothness assumption on the boundary.

Abstract:We consider the equivariant Kasparov category associated to an étale groupoid, and by leveraging its triangulated structure we study its localization at the 'weakly contractible' objects, extending previous work by R. Meyer and R. Nest. We prove the subcategory of weakly contractible objects is complementary to the localizing subcategory of projective objects, which are defined in terms of 'compactly induced' algebras with respect to certain proper subgroupoids related to isotropy. The resulting 'strong' Baum–Connes conjecture implies the classical one, and its formulation clarifies several permanence properties and other functorial statements. We present multiple applications, including consequences for the Universal Coefficient Theorem, a generalized 'going-down' principle, injectivity results for groupoids that are amenable at infinity, the Baum–Connes conjecture for group bundles, and a result about the invariance of K-groups of twisted groupoid -algebras under homotopy of twists.

Abstract:We determine when a quasi-isometry between discrete spaces is at bounded distance from a bilipschitz map. From this we prove a geometric version of the Von Neumann conjecture on amenability. We also get some examples in geometric groups theory which show that the sign of the Euler characteristic is not a coarse invariant. Finally we get some general results on uniformly finite homology which we will apply to manifolds in a later paper.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a connected semisimple real algebraic group. We prove the continuity of limit cones along deformations of Anosov subgroups of $G$ under a certain convexity assumption. This convexity assumption turns out to be necessary. We discuss an application to the notion of sharpness of an action of a discrete subgroup on a non-Riemannian homogeneous space. We also obtain that growth indicators and certain critical exponents vary continuously in the space of Anosov representations.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a smooth algebraic group over the field of rational functions of an excellent Dedekind scheme $S$ of equal characteristic $p>0.$ A Néron lft-model of $G$ is a smooth separated model $\mathscr{G} \to S$ of $G$ satisfying a universal property. Predicting whether a given $G$ admits such a model is a very delicate (and, in general, open) question if $S$ has infinitely many closed points, which is the subject of Conjecture I due to Bosch-Lütkebohmert-Raynaud. This conjecture was recently proven by T. Suzuki and the author if the residue fields of $S$ at closed points are perfect, but refuted in general. The aim of the present paper is two-fold: firstly, we give a new construction of counterexamples which is more general and provides a conceptual explanation for the only counterexamples known previously, as well as providing many new counterexamples. Secondly, we shall give a new and elementary proof of Conjecture I in the case of perfect residue fields. Both parts make use of the concept of weakly permawound unipotent groups recently introduced by Rosengarten.

Abstract:We study an extension problem for continuous linear maps in the setting of (LB)-spaces. More precisely, we characterize the pairs (E, Z), where E is a locally complete space with a fundamental sequence of bounded sets and Z is an (LB)-space, such that for every exact sequence of (LB)-spaces the map L(Y,E)→L(X,E),T↦T∘ι$$\begin{aligned} L(Y,E) \rightarrow L(X, E), ~ T \mapsto T \circ \iota \end{aligned}$$is surjective, meaning that each continuous linear map X→E$$X \rightarrow E$$ can be extended to a continuous linear map Y→E$$Y \rightarrow E$$ via ι$$\iota $$, under some mild conditions on E or Z (e.g. one of them is nuclear). We use our extension result to obtain sufficient conditions for the surjectivity of tensorized maps between Fréchet-Schwartz spaces. As an application of the latter, we study vector-valued Eidelheit type problems. Our work is inspired by and extends results of Vogt [24].

Abstract:In their study of coarse entropy, W. Geller and M. Misiurewicz introduced the notion of coarse conjugacy: a version of conjugacy appropriate for dynamics on metric spaces observed from afar. They made two conjectures on coarse conjugacy generalising their results. We disprove both of these conjectures. We investigate the impact of extra assumptions on the validity of the conjectures: We show that the result of Geller and Misiurewicz towards one of the conjectures can be considered optimal, and we prove the other conjecture under an assumption complementary to that from the referenced work.

Morse–Sard theorem and Luzin N-property: a new synthesis result for Sobolev spaces

Abstract:For a regular (in a sense) mapping v:ℝ^n →ℝ^d we study the following problem: let S be a subset of m-critical a set Z̃_v,m={ rank∇ v≤ m} and the equality ℋ^τ(S)=0 (or the inequality ℋ^τ(S)<∞) holds for some τ>0. Does it imply that ℋ^σ(v(S))=0 for some σ=σ(τ,m)? (Here ℋ^τ means the τ-dimensional Hausdorff measure.) For the classical classes C^k-smooth and C^k+α-Holder mappings this problem was solved in the papers by Bates and Moreira. We solve the problem for Sobolev W^k_p and fractional Sobolev W^k+α_p classes as well. Note that we study the Sobolev case under minimal integrability assumptions p=max(1,n/k), i.e., it guarantees in general only the continuity (not everywhere differentiability) of a mapping. In particular, there is an interesting and unexpected analytical phenomena here: if τ=n (i.e., in the case of Morse–Sard theorem), then the value σ(τ) is the same for the Sobolev W^k_p and for the classical C^k-smooth case. But if τ<n, then the value σ depends on p also; the value σ for C^k case could be obtained as the limit when p→∞. The similar phenomena holds for Holder continuous C^k+α and for the fractional Sobolev W^k+α_p classes. The proofs of the most results are based on our previous joint papers with J. Bourgain and J. Kristensen (2013, 2015). We also crucially use very deep Y. Yomdin's entropy estimates of near critical values for polynomials (based on algebraic geometry tools).
On equations of continuity and transport type on metric graphs and fractals

Abstract:We study first order equations of continuity and transport type on metric spaces of martingale dimension one, including finite metric graphs, p.c.f. self-similar sets and classical Sierpiński carpets. On such spaces solutions of the continuity equation in the weak sense are generally non-unique. We use semigroup theory to prove a well-posedness result for divergence free vector fields and under suitable loop and boundary conditions. It is the first well-posedness result for first order equations with scalar valued solutions on fractal spaces. A key tool is the concept of boundary quadruples recently introduced by Arendt, Chalendar and Eymard. To exploit it, we prove a new domain characterization for the relevant first order operator and a novel integration by parts formula, which takes into account the given vector field and the loop structure of the space. We provide additional results on duality and on metric graph approximations in the case of periodic boundary conditions.

Abstract:The moduli space of Anosov representations of a surface group in a semisimple group, which is an open set in the character variety, admits many more natural functions than the regular functions. We will study in particular length functions and, correlation functions. Our main result is a formula that computes the Poisson bracket of those functions using some combinatorial devices called {\em ghost polygons} and {\em ghost bracket} encoded in a formal algebra called {\em ghost algebra} related in some cases to the swapping algebra introduced by the second author. As a consequence of our main theorem, we show that the set of those functions -- length and correlation -- is stable under the Poisson bracket. We give two applications: firstly in the presence of positivity we prove the convexity of length functions, generalising a result of Kerckhoff in Teichmüller space, secondly we exhibit subalgebras of commuting functions. An important tool is the study of {\em uniformly hyperbolic bundles} which is a generalisation of Anosov representations beyond periodicity.

Abstract:The group of area preserving diffeomorphisms of the annulus acts on its Lie algebra, the globally Hamiltonian vectorfields on the annulus. We consider a certain Hilbert space completion of this group (thinking of it as a group of unitary operators induced by the diffeomorphisms), and prove that the projection of an adjoint orbit onto a ''Cartan'' subalgebra isomorphic to L2([0, 1]) is an infinite-dimensional, weakly compact, convex set, whose extreme points coincide with the orbit, through a certain function, of the ''permutation'' semigroup of measure preserving transformations of [0, 1].
