Abstract:A subset $C$ of the vertex set of a graph $\Gamma$ is called a perfect code of $\Gamma$ if every vertex of $\Gamma$ is at distance no more than one to exactly one vertex in $C$. In this paper, we classify all connected quintic Cayley graphs on abelian groups that admit a perfect code, and determine completely all perfect codes of such graphs.

Abstract:For a digraph $\Gamma$, a subset $C$ of $V(\Gamma)$ is a perfect code if $C$ is a dominating set such that every vertex of $\Gamma$ is dominated by exactly one vertex in $C$. In this paper, we classify strongly connected 2-valent Cayley digraphs on abelian groups admitting a perfect code, and determine completely all perfect codes of such digraphs.

Abstract:A subset <math>C</math> of the vertex set of a graph <math>Γ</math> is called a perfect code in <math>Γ</math> if every vertex of <math>Γ</math> is at distance no more than 1 to exactly one vertex of <math>C</math>. A subset <math>C</math> of a group <math>G</math> is called a perfect code of <math>G</math> if <math>C</math> is a perfect code in some Cayley graph of <math>G</math>. In this paper we give sufficient and necessary conditions for a subgroup <math>H</math> of a finite group <math>G</math> to be a perfect code of <math>G</math>. Based on this, we determine the finite groups that have no nontrivial subgroup as a perfect code, which answers a question by Ma, Walls, Wang and Zhou.

Abstract:Let be a graph with vertex set V , and let a , b be nonnegative integers. An ( a , b )-regular set in is a nonempty proper subset D of V such that every vertex in D has exactly a neighbours in D and every vertex in has exactly b neighbours in D . In particular, a (1, 1)-regular set is called a total perfect code. Let G be a finite group and S a square-free subset of G closed under conjugation. The Cayley sum graph of G is the graph with vertex set G such that two vertices x , y are adjacent if and only if . A subset (respectively, subgroup) D of G is called an ( a , b )-regular set (respectively, subgroup ( a , b )-regular set) of G if there exists a Cayley sum graph of G which admits D as an ( a , b )-regular set. We obtain two necessary and sufficient conditions for a subgroup of a finite group G to be a total perfect code in a Cayley sum graph of G . We also obtain two necessary and sufficient conditions for a subgroup of a finite abelian group G to be a total perfect code of G . We classify finite abelian groups whose all non-trivial subgroups of even order are total perfect codes of the group, and as a corollary we obtain that a finite abelian group has the property that every non-trivial subgroup is a total perfect code if and only if it is isomorphic to an elementary abelian 2-group. We prove that, for a subgroup H of a finite abelian group G and any pair of positive integers ( a , b ) within certain ranges depending on H , H is an ( a , b )-regular set of G if and only if it is a total perfect code of G . Finally, we give a classification of subgroup total perfect codes of a cyclic group, a dihedral group and a generalized quaternion group.

Perfect codes in circulant graphs of degree $p^l-1$

Abstract:A perfect code in a graph is an independent set of the graph such that every vertex outside the set is adjacent to exactly one vertex in the set. A circulant graph is a Cayley graph of a cyclic group. In this paper we study perfect codes in circulant graphs of degree $p^l - 1$, where $p$ is a prime and $l \ge 1$. We obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for such a circulant graph to admit perfect codes, give a construction of all such circulant graphs which admit perfect codes, and prove a lower bound on the number of distinct perfect codes in such a circulant graph. This extends known results for the case $l=1$ and provides insight on the general problem on the existence and structure of perfect codes in circulant graphs.

Abstract:The determination of weight distribution of cyclic codes involves the evaluation of Gauss sums and exponential sums. Despite some cases where a neat expression is available, the computation is generally rather complicated. In this note, we determine the weight distribution of a class of reducible cyclic codes whose dual codes may have arbitrarily many zeros. This goal is achieved by building an unexpected connection between the corresponding exponential sums and the spectra of Hermitian forms graphs.

Abstract:A perfect code in a graph $\Gamma$ is a subset $C$ of $V(\Gamma)$ such that no two vertices in $C$ are adjacent and every vertex in $V(\Gamma)\setminus C$ is adjacent to exactly one vertex in $C$. Let $G$ be a finite group and $C$ a subset of $G$. Then $C$ is said to be a perfect code of $G$ if there exists a Cayley graph of $G$ admiting $C$ as a perfect code. It is proved that a subgroup $H$ of $G$ is a perfect code of $G$ if and only if a Sylow $2$-subgroup of $H$ is a perfect code of $G$. This result provides a way to simplify the study of subgroup perfect codes of general groups to the study of subgroup perfect codes of $2$-groups. As an application, a criterion for determining subgroup perfect codes of projective special linear groups $\mathrm{PSL}(2,q)$ is given.

Abstract:The Galois ring GR$(4^\Delta)$ is the residue ring $Z_4[x]/(h(x))$, where $h(x)$ is a basic primitive polynomial of degree $\Delta$ over $Z_4$. For any odd $\Delta$ larger than $1$, we construct a partition of GR$(4^\Delta) \backslash \{0\}$ into $6$-subsets of type $\{a,b,-a-b,-a,-b,a+b\}$ and $3$-subsets of type $\{c,-c,2c\}$ such that the partition is invariant under the multiplication by a nonzero element of the Teichmuller set in GR$(4^\Delta)$ and, if $\Delta$ is not a multiple of $3$, under the action of the automorphism group of GR$(4^\Delta)$. As a corollary, this implies the existence of quasi-cyclic additive $1$-perfect codes of index $(2^\Delta-1)$ in $D((2^\Delta-1)(2^\Delta-2)/{6}, 2^\Delta-1 )$ where $D(m,n)$ is the Doob metric scheme on $Z^{2m+n}$.

On extended perfect codes

Abstract:We consider extended $1$-perfect codes in Hamming graphs $H(n,q)$. Such nontrivial codes are known only when $n=2^k$, $k\geq 1$, $q=2$, or $n=q+2$, $q=2^m$, $m\geq 1$. Recently, Bespalov proved nonexistence of extended $1$-perfect codes for $q=3$, $4$, $n>q+2$. In this work, we characterize all positive integers $n$, $r$ and prime $p$, for which there exist such a code in $H(n,p^r)$.

Abstract:Perfect state transfer (PST) has great significance due to its applications in quantum information processing and quantum computation. In this paper we present a characterization of the connected simple Cayley graph Γ=Cay(G,S) having PST, where G is an abelian group and S is a non-empty set of G. We show that many previous results on periodicity and existence of PST of circulant graphs (where the underlying group G is cyclic) and cubelike graphs (G=(F2n,+)) can be derived or generalized to arbitrary abelian case in unified and more simple ways from our characterization. We also get several new results including answers to some questions raised before.
Completely regular codes in graphs covered by a Hamming graph

Abstract:In Cayley graphs on the additive group of a small vector space over GF$(q)$, $q=2,3$, we look for completely regular (CR) codes whose parameters are new in Hamming graphs over the same field. The existence of a CR code in such Cayley graph $G$ implies the existence of a CR code with the same parameters in the corresponding Hamming graph that covers $G$. In such a way, we find several completely regular codes with new parameters in Hamming graphs over GF$(3)$. The most interesting findings are two new CR-$1$ (with covering radius~$1$) codes that are independent sets (such CR are equivalent to optimal orthogonal arrays attaining the Bierbrauer--Friedman bound) and one new CR-$2$. By recursive constructions, every knew CR code induces an infinite sequence of CR codes (in particular, optimal orthogonal arrays if the original code was CR-$1$ and independent). In between, we classify feasible parameters of CR codes in several strongly regular graphs.

Abstract:The study of perfect state transfer on graphs has attracted extensive attention because of its application in quantum information and computation. This paper establishes necessary and sufficient conditions for a weighted bi-Cayley graph having perfect state transfer over any given finite abelian group. As special cases of weighted bi-Cayley graphs, the results in this paper can apply to examine weighted Cayley graphs having perfect state transfer over dihedral groups, generalized dihedral groups, semi-dihedral groups and dicyclic groups.

Abstract:We give two new characterizations of ( 2 -linear, smooth) locally testable error-correcting codes in terms of Cayley graphs over F h 2 : A locally testable code is equivalent to a Cayley graph over h 2 whose set of generators is significantly larger than h and has no short linear dependencies, bbut yields a shortest-path metric that embeds into l with constant distortion. This extends and gives a converse to a result of Khot and Naor (2006), which showed that codes with large dual distance imply Cayley graphs that have no low-distortion embeddings into l . A locally testable code is equivalent to a Cayley graph over F h 2 that has significantly more than h eigenvalues near 1, which have no short linear dependencies among them and which "explain" all of the large eigenvalues. This extends and gives a converse to a recent construction of Barak et al. (2012), which showed that locally testable codes imply Cayley graphs that are small-set expanders but have many large eigenvalues.

Abstract:Perfect graphs form one of the distinguished classes of finite simple graphs. In 2006, Chudnovsky, Robertson, Seymour and Thomas proved that a graph is perfect if and only if it has no odd holes and no odd antiholes as induced subgraphs, which was conjectured by Berge. We consider the class ${\mathcal A}$ of graphs that have no odd holes, no antiholes and no odd stretchers as induced subgraphs. In particular, every graph belonging to ${\mathcal A}$ is perfect. Everett and Reed conjectured that a graph belongs to ${\mathcal A}$ if and only if it is perfectly contractile. In the present paper, we discuss graphs belonging to ${\mathcal A}$ from a viewpoint of commutative algebra. In fact, we conjecture that a perfect graph $G$ belongs to ${\mathcal A}$ if and only if the toric ideal of the stable set polytope of $G$ is generated by quadratic binomials. Especially, we show that this conjecture is true for Meyniel graphs, perfectly orderable graphs, and clique separable graphs, which are perfectly contractile graphs.

Abstract:Perfect state transfer on graphs has attracted extensive attention due to its application in quantum information and quantum computation. A graph is a semi-Cayley graph over a group G if it admits G as a semiregular subgroup of the full automorphism group with two orbits of equal size. A semi-Cayley graph SC ( G , R , L , S ) is called quasi-abelian if each of R , L and S is a union of some conjugacy classes of G . This paper establishes necessary and sufficient conditions for a quasi-abelian semi-Cayley graph to have perfect state transfer. As a corollary, it is shown that if a quasi-abelian semi-Cayley graph over a finite group G has perfect state transfer between distinct vertices g and h , and G has a faithful irreducible character, then lies in the center of G and ; in particular, G cannot be a non-abelian simple group. We also characterize quasi-abelian Cayley graphs over arbitrary groups having perfect state transfer, which is a generalization of previous works on Cayley graphs over abelian groups, dihedral groups, semi-dihedral groups and dicyclic groups.

Additive perfect codes in Doob graphs

Abstract:The Doob graph $D(m,n)$ is the Cartesian product of $m>0$ copies of the Shrikhande graph and $n$ copies of the complete graph of order $4$. Naturally, $D(m,n)$ can be represented as a Cayley graph on the additive group $(Z_4^2)^m \times (Z_2^2)^{n'} \times Z_4^{n''}$, where $n'+n''=n$. A set of vertices of $D(m,n)$ is called an additive code if it forms a subgroup of this group. We construct a $3$-parameter class of additive perfect codes in Doob graphs and show that the known necessary conditions of the existence of additive $1$-perfect codes in $D(m,n'+n'')$ are sufficient. Additionally, two quasi-cyclic additive $1$-perfect codes are constructed in $D(155,0+31)$ and $D(2667,0+127)$.

Abstract:A new algebraic Cayley graph is constructed using finite fields. It provides a more flexible source of expander graphs. Its connectedness, the number of connected components, and diameter bound are studied via Weil's estimate for character sums. Furthermore, we study the algorithmic problem of computing the number of connected components and establish a link to the integer factorization problem.
