Abstract:on March 12, 2021, at the age of 72.He was hard working until the end even though he suffered from serious health issues for quite some time.Andy was one of the great applied mathematicians of our time.He was passionate in his research and an applied mathematician in the best possible way, by using sophisticated mathematics to advance our understanding of science and also when needed to make fundamental contributions to mathematical analysis, in particular, to the theory of partial differential equations.He advocated a philosophy for applied mathematics research that involves the interaction of math theory, asymptotic modeling, numerical modeling, and observed and experimental data, as summarized in Figure 2 and often displayed by Andy in his research presentations.Andy's legacy lives
