Abstract:A matrix over ring with identity has the consecutive-column (CC) property if for all k, all its relevant submatrices having k consecutive rows and the first k columns are invertible. Similarly, the consecutive-row (CR) is defined. In this paper, we show that a arbitrary m x n matrix has both CC and CR properties if and only if it admits a certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This factorization is unique. We also show that there is a mutual 1 - 1 relations between the matrices having CC and CR properties and this certain factorization with bidiagonal-type factors (with invertible entries). This bidiagonal factorization has important applications in computer aided geometry design, electrical network and many other fields.
Factorization Property in Rearrangement Invariant Spaces

Abstract:Let $X$ be a Banach space with a basis $(e_k)_k$ and biorthogonals $(e^\ast_k)_k$. An operator on $X$ is said to have a $\textit {large diagonal}$ if $\inf\limits_{k} |e_k^\ast(T(e_k))| > 0$. The basis $(e_k)_k$ is said to have the $\textit {factorization property}$ if the identity factors through any operator with a large diagonal. Under the assumption that the Rademacher sequence is weakly null, we study the factorization property of the Haar system in a Haar system space. A Haar system space is the completion of the span of characteristic functions of dyadic intervals with respect to a rearrangement invariant norm. We show that every bounded operator with a large diagonal on a Haar system space is approximatively a factor of some diagonal operator with a large diagonal. Moreover, when the Haar system is an unconditional basis for a Haar system space, it has the factorization property.

Abstract:Let $1\leq p,q < \infty$ and $1\leq r \leq \infty$. We show that the direct sum of mixed norm Hardy spaces $\big(\sum_n H^p_n(H^q_n)\big)_r$ and the sum of their dual spaces $\big(\sum_n H^p_n(H^q_n)^*\big)_r$ are both primary. We do so by using Bourgain's localization method and solving the finite dimensional factorization problem. In particular, we obtain that the spaces $\big(\sum_{n\in \mathbb N} H_n^1(H_n^s)\big)_r$, $\big(\sum_{n\in \mathbb N} H_n^s(H_n^1)\big)_r$, as well as $\big(\sum_{n\in \mathbb N} BMO_n(H_n^s)\big)_r$ and $\big(\sum_{n\in \mathbb N} H^s_n(BMO_n)\big)_r$, $1 < s < \infty$, $1\leq r \leq \infty$, are all primary.

Abstract:We introduce the concept of strategically reproducible bases in Banach spaces and show that operators which have large diagonal with respect to strategically reproducible bases are factors of the identity. We give several examples of classical Banach spaces in which the Haar system is strategically reproducible: multi-parameter Lebesgue spaces, mixed-norm Hardy spaces and most significantly the space $L^1$. Moreover, we show the strategical reproducibility is inherited by unconditional sums.

Abstract:We show that the operator Hilbert space OH introduced by Pisier embeds into the predual of the hyerfinite III1 factor. The main new tool is a Khintchine type inequality for the generators of the CAR algebra with respect to a quasi-free state. Our approach yields a Khintchine type inequality for the q-gaussian variables for all values q between -1 and 1. These results are closely related to recent results of Pisier and Shlyakhtenko in the free case.

Abstract:We deduce factorization properties for Wiener amalgam spaces WLp,q , an extended family of modulation spaces M(ω,B) , and for Schatten symbols spw in pseudo-differential calculus under e. g. convolutions, twisted convolutions and symbolic products. Here M(ω,B) can be any quasi-Banach Orlicz modulation space. For example we show that WL1,r∗WLp,q=WLp,q and WL1,r#spw=spw when r∈(0,1] , r≤p,q<∞ . In particular we improve Rudin's identity L1∗L1=L1 .

Abstract:A Haar system Hardy space is the completion of the linear span of the Haar system $(h_I)_I$, either under a rearrangement-invariant norm $\|\cdot \|$ or under the associated square function norm \begin{equation*} \Bigl\| \sum_Ia_Ih_I \Bigr\|_{*} = \Bigl\| \Bigl( \sum_I a_I^2 h_I^2 \Bigr)^{1/2} \Bigr\|. \end{equation*} Apart from $L^p$, $1\le p<\infty$, the class of these spaces includes all separable rearrangement-invariant function spaces on $[0,1]$ and also the dyadic Hardy space $H^1$. Using a unified and systematic approach, we prove that a Haar system Hardy space $Y$ with $Y\ne C(\Delta)$ ($C(\Delta)$ denotes the continuous functions on the Cantor set) has the following properties, which are closely related to the primariness of $Y$: For every bounded linear operator $T$ on $Y$, the identity $I_Y$ factors either through $T$ or through $I_Y - T$, and if $T$ has large diagonal with respect to the Haar system, then the identity factors through $T$. In particular, we obtain that \begin{equation*} \mathcal{M}_Y = \{ T\in \mathcal{B}(Y) : I_Y \ne ATB\text{ for all } A, B\in \mathcal{B}(Y) \} \end{equation*} is the unique maximal ideal of the algebra $\mathcal{B}(Y)$ of bounded linear operators on $Y$. Moreover, we prove similar factorization results for the spaces $\ell^p(Y)$, $1\le p \leq \infty$, and use them to show that they are primary.

Abstract:We prove that the Möbius function is orthogonal to polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_q[x]$ (up to a characteristic condition). We use this orthogonality property to count prime solutions to affine-linear equations of bounded complexity in $\mathbb{F}_p[x]$, with analog to a work of Green and Tao.

We then show that these generalizations are equivalent to some representation theoretic identities relating the determinant of ramified local coefficients matrices defined for coverings of SL 2 ‚ĀĘ ( F ) to Plancherel measures and ő≥-factors.

Abstract:In the first part of the paper, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition on a complex-valued function F on R 2 such that F ⁢ ( f ) ∈ M θ r , s ⁢ ( R n ) for all f ∈ M θ r , 1 ⁢ ( R n ) , 1 ≤ r < ∞ , 1 ≤ s < 2 , where M θ r , s ⁢ ( R n ) is the affine modulation space associated with the fractional Fourier transform. In this context, we obtain that if F acts on M θ r , 1 ⁢ ( R n ) by composition, then F is necessarily real analytic and F ⁢ ( 0 ) = 0 . As M θ r , 1 ⁢ ( R n ) is neither a Banach algebra nor closed under complex conjugation, we prove sufficiency of the condition for a subclass of M θ r , 1 ⁢ ( R n ) under some additional hypothesis on F. We provide an example to show that we cannot drop the additional hypothesis. Thus we characterize the functions that operate in the affine modulation space setting. In the second part, we study the factorization problem in the context of M θ r , s ⁢ ( R n ) . We obtain factorization of M θ r , s ⁢ ( R 2 ⁢ n ) , viewing it as an L 1 ⁢ ( R 2 ⁢ n ) module with respect to convolution and λ-twisted convolution associated with the fractional Fourier transform. The problems mentioned above originated in the work of Helson, Kahane, Katznelson, Rudin, Cohen, and Hewitt respectively.

Abstract:For two types of moderate growth representations of $(\mathbb{R}^d,+)$ on sequentially complete locally convex Hausdorff spaces (including F-representations [J. Funct. Anal. 262 (2012), 667-681], we introduce Denjoy-Carleman classes of ultradifferentiable vectors and show a strong factorization theorem of Dixmier-Malliavin type for them. In particular, our factorization theorem solves [Conjecture 6.; J. Funct. Anal. 262 (2012), 667-681] for analytic vectors of representations of $G =(\mathbb{R}^d,+)$. As an application, we show that various convolution algebras and modules of ultradifferentiable functions satisfy the strong factorization property.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the Rudin orthogonality problem on the Bergman space, which is to characterize those functions bounded analytic on the unit disk whose powers form an orthogonal set in the Bergman space of the unit disk. We completely solve the problem if those functions are univalent in the unit disk or analytic in a neighborhood of the closed unit disk. As a consequence, it is shown that an analytic multiplication operator on the Bergman space is unitarily equivalent to a weighted unilateral shift of finite multiplicity n if and only if its symbol is a constant multiple of the n-th power of a Möbius transform, which was obtained via the Hardy space theory of the bidisk in Sun et al. (2008) [10].
