Abstract:The main result of this paper is to establish the $\text{weak}^*$ completely metric approximation property ($w^*$-CMAP) for the mixed $q$-deformed Araki-Woods factors for all symmetric matrices with entries $-1< q_{i,j}< 1$, using an ultraproduct embedding of the mixed $q$-deformed Araki-Woods factors.

Abstract: Let $\mathcal{S}$ be a finite thick generalized quadrangle, and suppose that $G$ is an automorphism group of $\mathcal{S}$. If $G$ acts primitively on both the points and lines of $\mathcal{S}$, then it is known that $G$ must be almost simple. In this paper, we show that if the socle of $G$ is $\mathrm{PSL}(2,q)$ with $q\geq4$, then $q=9$ and $\mathcal{S}$ is the unique generalized quadrangle of order $2$.

Abstract:We show that all the free Araki-Woods factors $\Gamma(H_\R, U_t)"$ have the complete metric approximation property. Using Ozawa-Popa's techniques, we then prove that every nonamenable subfactor $\mathcal{N} \subset \Gamma(H_\R, U_t)"$ which is the range of a normal conditional expectation has no Cartan subalgebra. We finally deduce that the type ${\rm III_1}$ factors constructed by Connes in the '70s can never be isomorphic to any free Araki-Woods factor, which answers a question of Shlyakhtenko and Vaes.

Abstract:By adapting an ultraproduct technique of Junge and Zeng, we prove that radial completely bounded multipliers on $q$-Gaussian algebras transfer to $q$-Araki-Woods algebras. As a consequence, we establish the $w^{\ast}$-complete metric approximation property for all $q$-Araki-Woods algebras. We apply the latter result to show that the canonical ultraweakly dense C$^\ast$-subalgebras of $q$-Araki-Woods algebras are always QWEP.

Since the factorization is unique, if we fix a function in Hardy space, inner and outer factors must be control by each other. Abstract:We show that Ozawa's recent results on solid von Neumann algebras imply that there are free Araki-Woods factors, which fail to have free absorption. We also show that a free Araki-Woods factors $\Gamma (\mu, n)$ associated to a measure and a multiplicity function $n$ may non-trivially depend on the multiplicity function.

Abstract:We show that the operator Hilbert space OH introduced by Pisier embeds into the predual of the hyerfinite III1 factor. The main new tool is a Khintchine type inequality for the generators of the CAR algebra with respect to a quasi-free state. Our approach yields a Khintchine type inequality for the q-gaussian variables for all values q between -1 and 1. These results are closely related to recent results of Pisier and Shlyakhtenko in the free case.

Abstract:We investigate the structure of crossed product von Neumann algebras arising from Bogoljubov actions of countable groups on Shlyakhtenko's free Araki-Woods factors. Among other results, we settle the questions of factoriality and Connes' type classification. We moreover provide general criteria regarding fullness and strong solidity. As an application of our main results, we obtain examples of type ${\rm III_0}$ factors that are prime, have no Cartan subalgebra and possess a maximal amenable abelian subalgebra. We also obtain a new class of strongly solid type ${\rm III}$ factors with prescribed Connes' invariants that are not isomorphic to any free Araki-Woods factors.

Abstract:We obtain a complete classification of a large class of non almost periodic free Araki-Woods factors $\Gamma(\mu,m)"$ up to isomorphism. We do this by showing that free Araki-Woods factors $\Gamma(\mu, m)"$ arising from finite symmetric Borel measures $\mu$ on $\mathbf{R}$ whose atomic part $\mu_a$ is nonzero and not concentrated on $\{0\}$ have the joint measure class $\mathcal C(\bigvee_{k \geq 1} \mu^{\ast k})$ as an invariant. Our key technical result is a deformation/rigidity criterion for the unitary conjugacy of two faithful normal states. We use this to also deduce rigidity and classification theorems for free product von Neumann algebras.

Abstract:We recall the notion of a quadratic form parameter $Q$ over the integers and of extended quadratic forms with values in $Q$, which we call $Q$-forms. Certain form parameters $Q$ appeared in Wall's work on the classification of almost closed $(q{-}1)$-connected $2q$-manifolds via $Q$-forms. The algebraic theory of general form parameters and extended quadratic forms has been studied in a variety of far more general settings by authors including Bak, Baues, Ranicki and Schlichting.

Abstract:We introduce operator-valued twisted Araki-Woods algebras. These are operator-valued versions of a class of second quantization algebras that includes $q$-Gaussian and $q$-Araki-Woods algebras and also generalize Shlyakhtenko's von Neumann algebras generated by operator-valued semicircular variables. We develop a disintegration theory that reduces the isomorphism type of operator-valued twisted Araki-Woods algebras over type I factors to the scalar-valued case. Moreover, these algebras come with a natural weight, and we characterize its modular theory. We also give sufficient criteria that guarantee that factoriality of these algebras.

Abstract:Bender, Coley, Robbins and Rumsey posed the problem of counting the number of subspaces which have a given profile with respect to a linear endomorphism defined on a finite vector space. Several special cases of this problem have been solved in the literature. We settle this problem in full generality by giving an explicit counting formula in terms of symmetric functions. This formula can be expressed compactly in terms a Hall scalar product involving dual $q$-Whittaker functions and another symmetric function that is determined by conjugacy class invariants of the linear endomorphism. As corollaries, we obtain new combinatorial interpretations for the coefficients in the $q$-Whittaker expansions of several symmetric functions. These include the power sum, complete homogeneous, products of modified Hall-Littlewood polynomials and certain products of $q$-Whittaker functions. These results are used to derive a formula for the number of anti-invariant subspaces (as defined by Barría and Halmos) with respect to an arbitrary operator. We also give an application to an open problem in Krylov subspace theory.

Abstract:A new interpretation and applications of the 'Diophantine' and factorization properties of finite orthogonal polynomials in the Askey scheme are explored. The corresponding twelve polynomials are the ( q -)Racah, (dual, q -)Hahn, Krawtchouk and five types of q -Krawtchouk. These ( q -)hypergeometric polynomials, defined only for the degrees of 0,1,...,N , constitute the main part of the eigenvectors of N + 1-dimensional tri-diagonal real symmetric matrices, which correspond to the difference equations governing the polynomials. The monic versions of these polynomials all exhibit the 'Diophantine' and factorization properties at higher degrees than N . This simply means that these higher degree polynomials are zero-norm 'eigenvectors' of the N + 1-dimensional tri-diagonal real symmetric matrices. A new type of multi-indexed orthogonal polynomials belonging to these twelve polynomials could be introduced by using the higher degree polynomials as the seed solutions of the multiple Darboux transformations for the corresponding matrix eigenvalue problems. The shape-invariance properties of the simplest type of the multi-indexed polynomials are demonstrated. The explicit transformation formulas are presented.

Abstract:Using Baire category techniques we prove that Araki-Woods factors are not classifiable by countable structures. As a result, we obtain a far reaching strengthening as well as a new proof of the well-known theorem of Woods that the isomorphism problem for ITPFI factors is not smooth. We derive as a consequence that the odometer actions of Z that preserve the measure class of a finite non-atomic product measure are not classifiable up to orbit equivalence by countable structures.

Abstract:We deduce factorization properties for a quasi-Banach module over a quasi-Banach algebra. Especially we extend a result by Hewitt and prove that if any such algebra which possess a bounded left approximate identity, then any element in the module can be factorized. As applications, we deduce factorization properties for Wiener amalgam spaces, for an extended family of modulation spaces and for Schatten symbol classes in pseudo-differential calculus under multiplications like convolutions, twisted convolutions and symbolic products. For example we show for Wiener amalgam spaces that WL^{1,r}*WL^{p,q}=WL^{p,q} when r in (0,1], and p and q are finite and larger than r. In particular we improve Rudin's identity L^1*L^1=L^1.
