Abstract:In 2019, Zhi-Wei Sun posed an interesting conjecture on certain determinants with Legendre symbol entries. In this paper, by using the arithmetic properties of $p$-th cyclotomic field and the finite field $\mathbb{F}_p$, we confirm this conjecture.

Abstract:Let $p>3$ be a prime, and let $d\in\mathbb Z$ with $p\nmid d$. For the determinants $$S_m(d,p)=\det\left[(i^2+dj^2)^{m}\right]_{1\leqslant i,j \leqslant (p-1)/2}\ \ \left(\frac{p-1}2\leqslant m\leqslant p-1\right),$$ Sun recently determined $S_m(d,p)$ modulo $p$ when $m\in\{p-2,p-3\}$ and $(\frac {-d}p)=-1$. In this paper, we obtain $S_{p-2}(d,p)$ modulo $p$ in the remaining case $(\frac{-d}p)=1$, and determine the Legendre symbols $(\frac{S_{p-3}\,(d,p)}p)$ and $(\frac{S_{p-4}\,(d,p)}p)$ in some special cases.

Abstract:Let $p>3$ be a prime and $(\frac{.}{p})$ be the Legendre symbol. For any integer $d$ with $p\nmid d$ and any positive integer $m$, Sun introduced the determinants $$T_m(d,p)=\det\left[(i^2+dj^2)^m\left(\frac{i^2+dj^2}{p}\right)\right]_{1\leqslant i,j \leqslant (p-1)/2},$$ and $$D_p^{(m)}= \det\left[(i^2-j^2)^m\left(\frac{i^2-j^2}{p}\right)\right]_{1\leq i,j\leq (p-1)/2} .$$ In this paper, we obtain some properties of $T_m (d,p)$ and $ \sqrt{D_p^{(m)}}$ for some $m$. We also confirm some related conjectures posed by Zhi-Wei Sun.

Abstract:In this paper we mainly focus on some determinants with Legendre symbol entries. Let p be an odd prime and let (./p) be the Legendre symbol. We show that (-S(d,p)/p) = 1 for any d is an element of Z with (d/p) = 1, and that (W-p/p) = {(-1) (left perpendicular) ({0<k<p/4; (k/p)=-1}) (right perpendicular) if p equivalent to 1 (mod 4), (-1) (left perpendicular) ((p+1)/8) (right perpendicular) if p equivalent to 3 (mod 4), where S(d,p) = det [(i(2)+j(2)/p)](1 <= i,j <=(p-1)/2) and W-p = det[(i(2) - ((p-1)/2)!j/p](0 <= i,j <=(p-1)/2) We also pose some conjectures on determinants, one of which states that (-1) (left perpendicular) ((p+1)/8) (right perpendicular) W-p is a square when p equivalent to 3 (mod 4). Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime and $x$ be an indeterminate. Recently, Z.-W. Sun proposed the following conjecture: $$\det\left[x+\left(\frac{j-i}{p}\right)\right]_{0\le i,j\le \frac{p-1}{2}}=\begin{cases} (\frac{2}{p})pb_px-a_p & \mbox{if}\ p\equiv 1\pmod4, 1 & \mbox{if}\ p\equiv 3\pmod4, \end{cases}$$ where $a_p$ and $b_p$ are rational numbers related to the fundamental unit and class number of the real quadratic field $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{p})$. In this paper, we confirm the above conjecture of Sun based on Vsemirnov's decomposition of Chapman's "evil determinant".

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime. In the paper, by using the properties of Legendre polynomials we prove some congruences for $\sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}2}\binom{2k}k^2m^{-k}\mod {p^2}$. In particular, we confirm several conjectures of Z.W. Sun. We also pose 13 conjectures on supercongruences.

Zeta elements for elliptic curves and applications

Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve defined over $\mathbb{Q}$ with conductor $N$ and $p\nmid 2N$ a prime. Let $L$ be an imaginary quadratic field with $p$ split. We prove the existence of $p$-adic zeta element for $E$ over $L$, encoding two different $p$-adic $L$-functions associated to $E$ over $L$ via explicit reciprocity laws at the primes above $p$. We formulate a main conjecture for $E$ over $L$ in terms of the zeta element, mediating different main conjectures in which the $p$-adic $L$-functions appear, and prove some results toward them. The zeta element has various applications to the arithmetic of elliptic curves. This includes a proof of main conjecture for semistable elliptic curves $E$ over $\mathbb{Q}$ at supersingular primes $p$, as conjectured by Kobayashi in 2002. It leads to the $p$-part of the conjectural Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) formula for such curves of analytic rank zero or one, and enables us to present the first infinite families of non-CM elliptic curves for which the BSD conjecture is true. We provide further evidence towards the BSD conjecture: new cases of $p$-converse to the Gross--Zagier and Kolyvagin theorem, and $p$-part of the BSD formula for ordinary primes $p$. Along the way, we give a proof of a conjecture of Perrin-Riou connecting Beilinson--Kato elements with rational points.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate determinants whose entries are linear combinations of Legendre symbols. After a review of known results, we present some new results and pose many conjectures for further research. Abstract:Let $E$ be an elliptic curve over $\mathbb{Q}$. Greenberg has posed a question whether the structure of the fine Selmer group over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $\mathbb{Q}$ can be described by cyclotomic polynomials in a certain precise manner. A recent work of Lei has made progress on this problem by proving that the fine Mordell-Weil group (in the sense of Wuthrich) does have this required property. The goal of this paper is study the analogous question of Greenberg over various $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions of an imaginary quadratic field $F$. In particular, when the elliptic curve has complex multiplication by the ring of integers of the imaginary quadratic field, we obtain analogous results of Lei over the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension and anti-cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$. In the event that the elliptic curve has good ordinary reduction at the prime $p$, we further obtain a result over the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $F$ unramified outside precisely one of the prime of $F$ above $p$. Finally, we study the situation of an elliptic curve over the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension under the generalized Heegner hypothesis. Along the way, we establish an analogous result for the BDP-Selmer group. This latter result is then applied to obtain a relation between the BDP $p$-adic $L$-function and the Mordell-Weil rank growth in the anticyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension which may be of independent interest.

Abstract:In this paper, we partly prove a supercongruence conjectured by Z.-W. Sun in 2013. Let $p$ be an odd prime and let $a\in\mathbb{Z}^{+}$. Then if $p\equiv1\pmod3$, we have \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{\lfloor\frac{5}6p^a\rfloor}\frac{\binom{2k}k}{16^k}\equiv\left(\frac{3}{p^a}\right)\pmod{p^2}, \end{align*} where $\left(\frac{\cdot}{\cdot}\right)$ is the Jacobi symbol.

Abstract:Given a squarefree positive integer d, we want to find integers (or rational numbers with denominators not divisible by large primes) a_0,a_1,a_2,… such that for sufficiently large primes p we have ∑_k=0^p-1a_k≡ x^2-2p (mod p^2) if 4p=x^2+dy^2 (and 4∤ x if d=1), and ∑_k=0^p-1a_k≡ 0 (mod p^2) if (-d/p)=-1. In this paper we give a survey of conjectures and results on this topic and point out the connection between this problem and series for 1/π.
On some conjectural determinants of Sun involving residues

Abstract:For an odd prime $p$ and integers $d, k, m$ with gcd$(p,d)=1$ and $2\leq k\leq \frac{p-1}{2}$, we consider the determinant \begin{equation*} S_{m,k}(d,p) = \left|(\alpha_i - \alpha_j)^m\right|_{1 \leq i,j \leq \frac{p-1}{k}}, \end{equation*} where $\alpha_i$ are distinct $k$-th power residues modulo $p$. In this paper, we deduce some residue properties for the determinant $S_{m,k}(d,p)$ as a generalization of certain results of Sun. Using these, we further prove some conjectures of Sun related to $$\left(\frac{\sqrt{S_{1+\frac{p-1}{2},2}(-1,p)}}{p}\right) \text{ and } \left(\frac{\sqrt{S_{3+\frac{p-1}{2},2}(-1,p)}}{p}\right).$$ In addition, we investigate the number of primes $p$ such that $p\ |\ S_{m+\frac{p-1}{k},k}(-1,p)$, and confirm another conjecture of Sun related to $S_{m+\frac{p-1}{2},2}(-1,p)$.

Abstract:In this paper we study some conjectures on determinants with Jacobi symbol entries posed by Z.-W. Sun. For any positive integer n≡3(mod4), we show that(6,1)n=[6,1]n=(3,2)n=[3,2]n=0 and(4,2)n=(8,8)n=(3,3)n=(21,112)n=0 as conjectured by Sun, where(c,d)n=|(i2+cij+dj2n)|1≤i,j≤n−1 and[c,d]n=|(i2+cij+dj2n)|0≤i,j≤n−1 with (⋅n) the Jacobi symbol. We also prove that (10,9)p=0 for any prime p≡5(mod12), and [5,5]p=0 for any prime p≡13,17(mod20), which were also conjectured by Sun. Our proofs involve character sums over finite fields.
