Abstract:We use classical homological algebra methods to get results on the Hartogs extension phenomenon for holomorphic sections of holomorphic vector bundles over complex analytic varieties. Namely, we study behaviours of the Hartogs extension property with respect to the open embeddings, proper maps, compactifications, and relations with the compact supports first cohomology and with properties of boundaries of complex analytic varieties. As an application, we get a convex-geometric criterion of the Hartogs phenomenon for complex almost homogeneous algebraic $G$-varieties, where $G$ is a semiabelian variety.
What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is related to the Hartogs extension phenomenon on complex analytic spaces. Specifically, the paper explores whether the Hartogs extension phenomenon holds on more general complex analytic spaces, especially what the extension properties are for holomorphic sections of holomorphic vector bundles on normal complex analytic varieties.
### Main research contents:
1. **General study of the Hartogs extension phenomenon**:
- The paper first reviews the classical Hartogs extension theorem, that is, for any domain \(W\) and compact set \(K\) in \(\mathbb{C}^n\), if \(W\setminus K\) is connected, then the restriction homomorphism \(\Gamma(W,\mathcal{O})\to\Gamma(W\setminus K,\mathcal{O})\) is an isomorphism.
- Then, the author raises a natural question: can this conclusion be generalized to general complex analytic spaces?
2. **The relationship between the Hartogs extension phenomenon and homological algebra**:
- The author uses classical homological algebra methods to study the relationship between the Hartogs extension phenomenon and open embeddings, proper maps, compactifications, and the first cohomology with compact supports.
- In particular, the author proves that for a normal complex analytic variety \(X\), if \(H^1_c(X,\mathcal{O}_X)\) is finite - dimensional, then \(\mathcal{O}_X\) has the Hartogs extension phenomenon (Proposition 2.1).
3. **The Hartogs extension phenomenon of locally free modules**:
- For any locally free \(\mathcal{O}_X\)-module \(F\) of finite rank, if \(H^1_c(X,F) = 0\), then \(F\) has the Hartogs extension phenomenon (Lemma 2.3).
- The author also studies the behavior of the Hartogs extension phenomenon under proper surjective holomorphic maps and gives several examples and corollaries.
4. **Study of special open embeddings**:
- The author introduces the concept of \((b,\sigma)\)-compactification pairs and studies their performance in the Hartogs extension phenomenon.
- For example, for \((1,\sigma)\)-compactification pairs, the Hartogs extension property and the finiteness of \(H^1_c(X,\mathcal{O}_X)\) only depend on the germ of the analytic set at infinity (Corollary 4.1).
5. **Study of almost homogeneous algebraic \(G\)-varieties**:
- The author considers the Hartogs extension phenomenon on almost homogeneous algebraic \(G\)-varieties and gives some specific examples.
- In particular, for a semi - abelian variety \(G\), the germ space of the analytic set at infinity is described (Example 5.1).
### Main conclusions:
- **Necessary and sufficient conditions**:
- For a non - compact normal complex analytic variety \(X\) with a unique topological end, a locally free \(\mathcal{O}_X\)-module \(F\) has the Hartogs extension phenomenon if and only if \(H^1_c(X,F)=0\) (Theorem 2.1).
- Further, for the structure sheaf \(\mathcal{O}_X\), the necessary and sufficient condition for the Hartogs extension phenomenon is \(\dim_{\mathbb{C}}H^1_c(X,\)
