Abstract:In this article we study the possible size of support of solutions to the discrete stationary Schrodinger equation $\Delta u(x)+V(x)u(x)=0$ in $\mathbb{Z}^d$. We show that for any nonzero solution to any discrete stationary Schrodinger equation the dimension of the support is at least $\log_2(d)-7.$

Abstract:Consider a quasi-linear system of two Klein–Gordon equations with masses m1, m2. We prove that when m1≠2m2 and m2≠2m1, such a system has global solutions for small, smooth, compactly supported Cauchy data. This extends a result proved by Sunagawa (J. Differential Equations 192 (2) (2003) 308) in the semi-linear case. Moreover, we show that global existence holds true also when m1=2m2 and a convenient null condition is satisfied by the nonlinearities.
On the Support of Anomalous Dissipation Measures

Abstract:By means of a unifying measure-theoretic approach, we establish lower bounds on the Hausdorff dimension of the space-time set which can support anomalous dissipation for weak solutions of fluid equations, both in the presence or absence of a physical boundary. Boundary dissipation, which can occur at both the time and the spatial boundary, is analyzed by suitably modifying the Duchon & Robert interior distributional approach. One implication of our results is that any bounded Euler solution (compressible or incompressible) arising as a zero viscosity limit of Navier-Stokes solutions cannot have anomalous dissipation supported on a set of dimension smaller than that of the space. This result is sharp, as demonstrated by entropy-producing shock solutions of compressible Euler and by recent constructions of dissipative incompressible Euler solutions, as well as passive scalars. For $L^q_tL^r_x$ suitable Leray-Hopf solutions of the $d-$dimensional Navier-Stokes equation we prove a bound of the dissipation in terms of the Parabolic Hausdorff measure soon as the solution lies in the Prodi-Serrin class. In the three-dimensional case, this matches with the Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg partial regularity.

Abstract:In this paper, we study uniqueness properties of solutions to the generalized fourth-order Schrödinger equations in any dimension d of the following forms, i ∂ t u + ∑ j = 1 d ∂ x j 4 u = V t , x u , and i ∂ t u + ∑ j = 1 d ∂ x j 4 u + F u , u ̅ = 0. We show that a linear solution u with fast enough decay in certain Sobolev spaces at two different times has to be trivial. Consequently, if the difference between two nonlinear solutions u 1 and u 2 decays sufficiently fast at two different times, it implies that u 1 ≡ u 2 .

Abstract:In this article we consider the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation, with time-dependent potential, in space dimensions $n=1, 2$ and $3$, with nonlinearity $|u|^{p-1} u$, $p$ an odd integer, satisfying $p \geq 5$ in dimension $1$, $p \geq 3$ in dimension $2$ and $p=3$ in dimension $3$. We also allow a metric perturbation, assumed to be compactly supported in spacetime, and nontrapping. We work with module regularity spaces, which are defined by regularity of order $k \geq 2$ under the action of certain vector fields generating symmetries of the free Schrödinger equation. We solve the large data final state problem, with final state in a module regularity space, and show convergence of the solution to the final state.

Abstract:In the present paper, we consider the coupled Schrödinger systems with critical exponent:{−Δui+λiui=∑j=1dβij|uj|3|ui|ui in Ω,ui∈H01(Ω),i=1,2,...,d. Here, Ω⊂R3 is a smooth bounded domain, d≥2, βii>0 for every i, and βij=βji for i≠j. We study a Brézis-Nirenberg type problem: −λ1(Ω)<λ1,⋯,λd<−λ⁎(Ω), where λ1(Ω) is the first eigenvalue of −Δ with Dirichlet boundary conditions and λ⁎(Ω)∈(0,λ1(Ω)). We acquire the existence of least energy positive solutions to this system for weakly cooperative case (βij>0 small) and for purely competitive case (βij≤0) by variational arguments. The proof is performed by mathematical induction on the number of equations, and requires more refined energy estimates for this system. Besides, we present a new nonexistence result, revealing some different phenomena comparing with the higher-dimensional case N≥5. It seems that this is the first paper to give a rather complete picture for the existence of least energy positive solutions to critical Schrödinger system in dimension three.
Standing wave solutions of a quasilinear Schrödinger equation in the small frequency limit

Abstract:This article is concerned with the quasilinear Schrödinger equation \[ \Delta u-\omega u+|u|^{p-1}u+\delta\Delta(|u|^2)u=0, \] where $\delta>0$, $N=2$ and $p>1$ or $N\ge3$ and $1<p<\frac{3N+2}{N-2}$. After proving uniqueness and non-degeneracy of the positive solution $u_\omega$ for all $\omega>0$, our main results establish the asymptotic behavior of $u_\omega$ in the limit $\omega\to 0^+$. Three different regimes arise, termed 'subcritical', 'critical' and 'supercritical', corresponding respectively (when $N\ge3$) to $1<p<\frac{N+2}{N-2}$, $p=\frac{N+2}{N-2}$ and $\frac{N+2}{N-2}<p<\frac{3N+2}{N-2}$. In each case a limit equation is exhibited which governs, in a suitable scaling, the behavior of $u_\omega$ in the limit $\omega\to 0^+$. The critical case is the most challenging, technically speaking. In this case, the limit equation is the famous Lane-Emden-Fowler equation. A substantial part of our efforts is dedicated to the study of the function $\omega\mapsto M(\omega)=\int_{\mathbb{R}^N} u_\omega^2$. We find that, for small $\omega>0$, $M(\omega)$ is increasing if $1<p\le 1+\frac4N$ and decreasing if $1+\frac4N< p\le\frac{N+2}{N-2}$. In the supercritical case, the monotonicity of $M(\omega)$ depends on the dimension, except in the regime $p\ge 3+\frac4N$, where $M(\omega)$ is always decreasing close to $\omega=0$. The crucial role played by $M(\omega)$ for the orbital stability of the standing wave $e^{i\omega t}u_\omega$, and for the uniqueness of normalized ground states, is discussed in the introduction.

Abstract:The discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\Z^d$, $d \geq 1$ is an example of a dispersive nonlinear wave system. Being a Hamiltonian system that conserves also the $\ell^2(\Z^d)$-norm, the well-posedness of the corresponding Cauchy problem follows for square-summable initial data. In this paper, we prove that the well-posedness continues to hold for much less regular initial data, namely anything that has at most a certain power law growth far away from the origin. The growth condition is loose enough to guarantee that, at least in dimension $d=1$, initial data sampled from any reasonable equilibrium distribution of the defocusing DNLS satisfies it almost surely.

By virtue of variational methods, we establish the existence and nonexistence of least energy solutions for the purely cooperative case ($\beta_{ij}> 0$ for any $i\neq j$) and the simultaneous cooperation and competition case ($\beta_{i_{1}j_{1}}>0$ and $\beta_{i_{2}j_{2}}<0$ for some $(i_{1}, j_{1})$ and $(i_{2}, j_{2})$). Moreover, it is shown that fully nontrivial ground state solutions exist when $\beta_{ij}\ge0$ and $N\ge5$, but {\bf NOT} in the weakly pure cooperative case ($\beta_{ij}>0$ and small, $i\neq j$) when $N=3,4$. We emphasize that this reveals that the existence of ground state solutions differs dramatically between $N=3, 4$ and higher dimensions $N\geq 5$. In particular, the cases of $N=3$ and $N\geq 5$ are more complicated than the case of $N=4$ and the proofs heavily depend on the dimension. Some novel tricks are introduced for $N=3$ and $N\ge5$.

Abstract:We consider the defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on $\mathbb{T}^2$ with Wick ordered power nonlinearity, and prove almost sure global well-posedness with respect to the associated Gibbs measure. The heart of the matter is the uniqueness of the solution as limit of solutions to canonically truncated systems. The invariance of the Gibbs measure under the global dynamics follows as a consequence. The proof relies on the novel idea of random averaging operators.

Spectral localization estimates for abstract linear Schrödinger equations

Abstract:We study the propagation properties of abstract linear Schrödinger equations of the form $i\partial_t\psi = H_0\psi+V(t)\psi$, where $H_0$ is a self-adjoint operator and $V(t)$ a time-dependent potential. We present explicit sufficient conditions ensuring that if the initial state $\psi_0$ has spectral support in $(-\infty,0]$ with respect to a reference self-adjoint operator $\phi$, then, for some $c>0$ independent of $\psi_0$ and all $t\ne0$, the solution $\psi_t$ remains spectrally supported in $(-\infty,c|t|]$ with respect to $\phi$, up to an $O(|t|^{-n})$ remainder in norm. The main condition is that the multiple commutators of $H_0$ and $\phi$ are uniformly bounded in operator norm up to the $(n+1)$-th order. We then apply the abstract theory to a class of nonlocal Schrödinger equations on $\mathbb{R}^d$, proving that any solution with compactly supported initial state remains approximately supported, up to a polynomially suppressed tail in $L^2$-norm, inside a linearly spreading region around the initial support for all $t\ne0$.

Abstract:In this paper we study the equation \[ -\Delta u +(\log |\cdot|*|u|^2)u=(\log|\cdot|*|u|^q)|u|^{q-2}u, \qquad \hbox{ in }\mathbb{R}^2, \] where $8/3 < q < 4$. By means of variational arguments, we find infinitely many radially symmetric classical solutions. The main difficulties rely on the competition between the two nonlocal terms and on the presence of logarithmic kernels, which have not a prescribed sign. In addition, in order to find finite energy solutions, a suitable functional setting analysis is required.

Abstract:We study the logarithmic Schrödinger equation with finite range potential on $\mathbb{R}^{\mathbb{Z}^d}$. Through a ground-state representation, we associate and construct a global Gibbs measure and show that it satisfies a logarithmic Sobolev inequality. We find estimates on the solutions in arbitrary dimension and prove the existence of weak solutions to the infinite-dimensional Cauchy problem.

Abstract:We consider the Schr{ö}dinger equation in $\mathbf{R}^d$, $d \ge 1$, with a confining potential growing at most quadratically. Our main theorem characterizes open sets from which observability holds, provided they are sufficiently regular in a certain sense. The observability condition involves the Hamiltonian flow associated with the Schr{ö}dinger operator under consideration. It is obtained using semiclassical analysis techniques. It allows to provide with an accurate estimation of the optimal observation time. We illustrate this result with several examples. In the case of two-dimensional harmonic potentials, focusing on conical or rotation-invariant observation sets, we express our observability condition in terms of arithmetical properties of the characteristic frequencies of the oscillator.
