Abstract:A task-specific ionic liquid, 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-undec-7-en-8-ium acetate has been successfully used as a catalyst for aza-conjugate addition of aliphatic or aromatic amines to various electron deficient alkenes under solvent-free conditions and at room temperature. The catalyst can be reused for six times without noticeable loss of activity.

Abstract:An efficient, clean and facile protocol for the Knoevenagel condensation of aromatic aldehydes with active methylene compounds catalysed by task specific ionic liquid 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-undec-7-en-8-ium acetate in an aqueous medium has been developed. The reactions proceed at room temperature and high to excellent yields were afforded. The work-up procedure is very simple. The ionic liquid could be recycled for 10 runs without noticeably loss of its catalytic activity.

Abstract:Extensive experimental studies have been performed on the Diels–Alder (DA) reactions in ionic liquids (ILs), which demonstrate that the IL environment can significantly influence the reaction rates and selectivity. However, the underlying microscopic mechanism remains ambiguous. In this work, the multiscale reaction density functional theory is applied to explore the effect of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMIM][PF6]) solvent on the reaction of cyclopentadiene (CP) with acrolein, methyl acrylate, or acrylonitrile. By analyzing the free energy landscape during the reaction, it is found that the polarization effect has a relatively small influence, while the solvation effect makes both the activation free energy and reaction free energy decrease. In addition, the rearrangement of local solvent structure shows that the cation spatial distribution responds more evidently to the reaction than the anion, and this indicates that the cation plays a dominant role in the solvation effect and so as to affect the reaction rates and selectivity of the DA reactions.

Abstract:[reaction: see text] A highly efficient aza Diels-Alder reaction of Danishefsky's diene with imines was found to occur in methanol in the absence of any acids at room temperature to give corresponding 2-substituted dihydro-4-pyridone derivatives in high yields. This reaction can be also carried out in a three-component one-pot reaction manner. The reaction was found to proceed through a Mannich-type condensation mechanism.

Abstract:Liquid-phase alkylation of benzene and dichloromethane as alkylating agent to diphenylmethane with acidic ionic liquids such as Et3NHCl–AlCl3, Et3NHCl–FeCl3, Et3NHCl–ZnCl2, Et3NHCl–CuCl2, Et3NHCl–SnCl2 and Et3NHCl–SnCl4 was investigated. The results showed that Et3NHCl–AlCl3 proved to be superior catalytic activity to other five ionic liquids with the conversion of 83.8% and the selectivity of 86.3% at a moderate temperature. Meanwhile, the influence of reaction conditions on the reaction, the reaction kinetics and the usability of the catalyst were explored.

Abstract:A mild three-component synthetic approach to versatile 2-amino-1,4-dihydropyridines from terminal alkynes, sulfonyl azides, and N-sulfonyl-1-aza-1,3-butadienes was successfully developed and relied on the in situ generation of metalated ynamide intermediates Ib to achieve a formal inverse electron-demand hetero-Diels-Alder reaction. Experimental results suggest that alkali metal cations (Li(+) and Cs(+) ions) might play a critical role to achieve the cycloaddition process.

Abstract:An array of novel 1,4-diazobicyclo[2.2.2]octane (DABCO) based ionic liquids were developed and used as recyclable catalysts for the aza-Michael addition at room temperature without any organic solvent. [DABCO-PDO][OAc] was found to be the most efficient catalyst, and the amount of catalyst was only 10 mol %. Various amines reacted with a wide range of α,β-unsaturated amides, smoothly affording target products in good to excellent yields within hours. Moreover, the catalyst could be reused up to eight times, still maintaining a high catalytic activity. Finally, a plausible mechanism was proposed. FTIR and computational chemistry were used to verify the catalytic mechanism.

Abstract:Condensations of benzene or toluene, xylene and paraformaldehyde to diphenylmethane (DPM) or its derivatives were performed using acidic ionic liquids Et3NHCl–AlCl3, Et3NHCl–FeCl3, Et3NHCl–ZnCl2, Et3NHCl–CuCl2, Et3NHCl–CuCl, Et3NHCl–SnCl2 as catalysts. The catalytic activity of Et3NHCl–AlCl3 proved to be superior to that of other catalysts for the condensation of benzene and paraformaldehyde, giving 92.4% conversion of HCHO and 76.1% selectivity to diphenylmethane at 80 °C and atmospheric pressure. The effect of various reaction conditions on the reaction and reaction kinetics of DPM synthesis were explored.

Abstract:4-Aminobenzylidene derivatives are very important synthetic intermediates. A fast and green protocol for the one-pot multi-component reaction of 4-halobenzaldehyde, active methylene compounds and secondary amines was developed using a basic ionic liquid, 1-methyl-3-butylimidazolium hydroxide, [bmIna]OH, as catalyst, reagent and reaction medium. All the corresponding 4-aminobenzylidene-scaffold derivatives were obtained in good to excellent yields. The [bmIm]OH could be reused. Moreover, the structures of all the products were confirmed by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR and MS techniques.

Abstract:A green and simple synthesis of 4-ayrl-3,4-dihydro-1H-pyrimido[1,2-a]benzimidazole derivatives was accomplished in excellent yields via the reaction of aryl aldehyde, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and 1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-amine in ionic liquid of [bmim(+)][BF4-]. This protocol has the advantages of easier work-up, mild reaction conditions, high yields, and an environmentally benign procedure compared with the reported methods.

Abstract:A fast, mild, and quantitative procedure for Michael addition reactions between various amines and alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds and nitriles in the presence of an easily accessible basic ionic liquid - 3-butyl-1-methylimidazolium hydroxide, [bmIm]OH - as both catalyst and reaction medium has been developed. For large-scale reactions the products could be directly distilled from the ionic liquid, allowing the use of organic solvents to be avoided totally. Abstract:Functional ionic liquids have been widely used in the fields of synthetic chemistry, analytical chemistry, electrochemistry and material chemistry owing to their excellent properties such as easy structure modification and adjustable properties. In this work, a series of basic functionalized ionic liquids were prepared from 1, 4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane (DABCO) or hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) with various halogenated hydrocarbons, then these functional ionic liquids and water were used as solvent-catalyst system in the Knoevenagel reaction of various aldehydes with ethyl cyanoacetate or malononitrile, the influence of the structure of the ionic liquid and the content of water was investigated. The results showed that the composite solvent-catalyst system mixed by the functional ionic liquid N-(3-aminopropyl)-1,4-diazabicyclo [2.2.2] octane bromide with water can effectively promote the Knoevenagel reaction and the alkalinity of amine and hydrogen bond play an important role. Aromatic aldehydes with electron-donating or electron-withdrawing groups can obtain the target product at an excellent yield (79-99%). It is worth noting that the polycyclic aromatic aldehydes with high steric hindrance, 86%-95% yields of the object products were also obtained after 15 h-25 h. Furthermore, the catalyst could be reused for 6 times without any loss in its catalytic activity. The composite solvent-catalyst system mixed by the Functional ionic liquid N -(3-aminopropyl)-1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]octane bromide with water can effectively promote the Knoevenagel reaction, even for the electron-rich aromatic aldehydes with poor reactivity, high yields of the target products and fast reaction rate were also obtained at room temperature.

Abstract:Our research has demonstrated that mechanochemical activation is more effective with solid reagents. We have showcased the practicality of Bertagnini's salts, also called aldehyde‐bisulfite adducts, which are crystalline, simplifying preparation and storage. These salts are stable substitutes for liquid aldehydes and ketones that have been effectively employed in reductive amination, synthesizing aza‐heterocycles and hydrazones within mechanochemistry. The technique's effectiveness broadens the substrate scopes, simplifies purification, reduces reaction times, and delivers good product yields. Additionally, the thermal stability of the bisulfite adducts has been confirmed through TGA (Thermogravimetric analysis) analysis.

Abstract:Lithium and sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amides react with fluoro-, bromo-, and chlorobenzenes in THF or toluene to give a mixture of N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aniline and N,2-bis(trimethylsilyl)aniline. The latter compound is resulted from 1,3-shift of the trimethylsilyl group from nitrogen to ortho-carbon atom of the benzene ring. Effects of the solvent, halogen, and alkali metal nature as well as the reaction conditions on the ratio of isomers were examined. Reaction of iodobenzene with sodium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide in THF produces N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aniline and 2-iodo-N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)aniline, while in toluene a mixture of three products, two indicated above and N,N-bis(trimethylsilyl)benzylamine, was obtained.
