Abstract:Rational bottom-up construction of two-dimensional (2D) covalent or noncovalent organic materials with precise structural control at the atomic or molecular level remains a challenge. The design and synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on new building blocks is of great significance in achieving new types of 2D monolayer MOF films. Here, we demonstrate that a complexation between copper(II) ions and tri(β-diketone) ligands yields a novel 2D MOF structure, either in the form of a powder or as a monolayer film. It has been characterized by Fourier transform infrared, Raman, ultraviolet-visible, X-ray photoelectron, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies. Selected area electron diffraction and powder X-ray diffraction results show that the MOF is crystalline and has a hexagonal structure. A MOF-based membrane has been prepared by vacuum filtration of an aqueous dispersion of the MOF powder onto a porous Anodisc filter having pore size 0.02 μm. The porous MOF membrane filters gold nanoparticles with a cutoff of ∼2.4 nm.
TpBD/UiO-66-NH2 micro-mesoporous hybrid material as a stationary phase for open tubular capillary electrochromatography

Abstract:The excellent stability of covalent organic frameworks (COFs) and the diversity of metal organic frameworks (MOFs) make MOF/COF hybrid materials promising candidates for chromatographic stationary phases. In this paper, a TpBD/UiO-66-NH2 hybrid material was synthesized through a Schiff-base reaction between TpBD COFs and UiO-66-NH2 MOFs; characterized using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; and bonded to a capillary to prepare a TpBD/UiO-66-NH2-bonded open tubular capillary electrochromatography (OT-CEC) column. Results suggested that the hybrid material had the crystal morphology of a single COF and MOF, a micro-mesoporous structure, and good thermal stability. The inner surface of the OT-CEC column was tightly and uniformly distributed with the stationary phase (∼1.5 μm). The baseline separation of 13 amino acids and three families (4 acidic antibiotics, 4 preservatives and 6 sulfonamides) of emerging pollutant mixtures was achieved due to the synergistic effect of TpBD and UiO-66-NH2 in the stationary phase. The OT-CEC column showed good reproducibility and stability with relative standard deviations of migration time and resolutions in the range of 1.17-3.93% and 1.79-4.31%, respectively.
Hybrid organic monolithic column containing MIL-68(Al) for the separation of small molecules by capillary HPLC

Abstract:A hybrid organic monolithic column made of poly(lauryl methacrylate-co-1,6-hexanediol dimethacrylate) and the metal-organic framework MIL-68(Al) was prepared for the first time. The column was used in capillary liquid chromatography, both in isocratic and gradient elution modes. Separation performance towards small molecules of different chemical nature (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, alkylbenzenes, phenols, etc.) was studied. Monte Carlo simulations were made to both select the proper precursors to obtain empty metal-organic framework micropores in the monolithic polymer and also, to analyze the potential free access of the studied analytes into the micropores (necessary to improve mass transfer and column efficiency). The hereby synthesized metal-organic framework microcrystals allowed obtaining homogeneous hybrid monolithic columns. Adding of MIL-68(Al) (1030 m2 g-1 BET specific surface area) increased the surface area from 3.9 m2 g-1 for the parent monolith to 18.2 m2 g-1 for the hybrid column containing 8 mg mL-1 of the microcrystals. Chromatographic performance of this new column was evaluated by studying retention factors, resolution, and plate counts at room temperature. Different compounds, not completely resolved in the parent monolith, were partially or completely separated after metal-organic framework addition. Using the monolithic column with only 2 mg mL-1 of MIL-68(Al), five alkylbenzenes were completely separated with very symmetrical peak shapes, resolution factors up to 3.60 and plate counts of 4300 plates m-1 for n-hexylbenzene. This value is higher than those obtained by other authors who used organic monolithic columns with embedded metal-organic frameworks to perform separations at room temperature. Additionally, nine polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were partially or completely resolved in gradient elution mode. The hybrid monolithic columns exhibited very good intra-day (%RSD=1.9), inter-day (%RSD=2.6), and column-to-column (%RSD=4.3) reproducibility values. Easy and fast column preparation, and versatility to efficiently separate several compounds of different chemical nature in isocratic and gradient mode, makes this new hybrid column a very good option for the analysis of small molecules in capillary (or nano) HPLC.
Incorporation of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8)-derived nanoporous carbons in methacrylate polymeric monoliths for capillary electrochromatography

Abstract:A series of metal organic frameworks-derived nanoporous carbons originating from zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) crystals as precursors have been prepared via varying the preparation conditions. The ZIF-8-derived carbons were subsequently admixed in the methacrylate monomers containing polymerization mixtures and polymerized to obtain monolithic columns for capillary electrochromatography (CEC). The effect of particle size and content of the ZIF-8-derived carbon materials in the polymerization mixture on the performance of the hybrid monolithic columns was investigated in detail. The resulting composites were characterized using scanning electron microscopy. Using short time UV-initiated polymerization, monolithic beds with homogenously dispersed ZIF-8-derived carbons were obtained. The chromatographic performance of these composites was demonstrated with separations of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs as test solutes. The incorporation of the ZIF-8-derived carbons into the organic polymer monoliths led to an increase in the retention of all the analytes compared to the parent monolith. Finally, the hybrid monolithic columns exhibited satisfactory run-to-run and batch-to-batch reproducibility.
Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks as stationary phase for open-tubular capillary electrochromatography

Abstract:Background: Capillary electrochromatography (CEC) stationary phases have always been the focus of attention. The selection of excellent stationary phases are the key to realize separate of different compounds. Hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are porous materials connected by hydrogen bonds between molecules, which have the advantages of renewable, high specific surface area and mild synthesis conditions. At present, HOFs are used in gas adsorption and storage, catalysis and drug delivery. Because of its unique advantages, HOFs have a bright future as CEC stationary phases. Results: Using melamine (MA) and 1,3,6,8-tetra (4-carboxylphenyl)pyrene (H4TBAPy) as reaction monomers, a HOFs named MA/PFC-1 was synthesized by solvent evaporation at room temperature. The inner wall of the capillary column was coated with MA/PFC-1 by chemical bonding. Sulfonamides were used as the target analytes. The effects of pH, phosphate buffer solution concentration, organic additive content and applied voltage on sulfonamides separation were investigated. The MA/PFC-1-coated capillary column had good resolution (>1.5) and reproducibility. The intra-day, inter-day, column-to-column, and inter-batch precision of the retention times were 0.03%-0.09%, 0.04%-0.09%, 0.03%-0.14% and 0.06%-0.09%, respectively. The intra-day, inter-day, column-to-column, and inter-batch precision of the peak areas were 0.11%-0.25%, 0.13%-0.20%, 0.12%-0.15% and 0.08%-0.15%, respectively. The MA/PFC-1-coated capillary column was run 150 consecutive times, and the results showed no noticeable change, which proved that this method had good stability. Significance: This work applied HOFs to CEC. The results show the that MA/PFC-1-coated capillary column has good separation performance. The MA/PFC-1-coated capillary column has been successfully applied to the determination of sulfamethoxazole in tablets, which has practical application value. To open up the application of HOFs in CEC and provide a new idea for developing new CEC stationary phases.
Design and evaluation of novel MOF–polymer core–shell composite as mixed-mode stationary phase for high performance liquid chromatography

Abstract:A general method was developed for preparing a metal–organic framework–polymer composite coated silica core–shell stationary phase. Silica microspheres were comodified with metal–organic framework and polyvinylpyrrolidone rather than the in situ method of silica modification by original metal–organic framework particles. Metal–organic framework particles and polyvinylpyrrolidone on silica surface were beneficial to suppress silanol activity and enhance composite material tolerance, as well as increasing the water compatibility of the original metal–organic framework-based stationary phases. The stationary phase exhibited superior hydrophilic and hydrophobic performance in terms of separation for various analytes including seven alkaloids, six sulfonamides, five antibiotics, and five polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Moreover, the composite material also showed excellent stability with the relative standard deviation of the retention time of 0.4 to 0.7%. The separation performance with real samples proved that the column has good practical application potential. In summary, the poposed method provides a general way for preparing metal–organic framework–polymer composite material and changed the current status of original metal–organic framework particles modified silica as a single mode chromatographic stationary phase.

Preparation and characterization of inorganic silica-organic polymer mixture based C16 capillary monolithic column

Abstract:A novel inorganic silica-organic polymer mixed-based capillary electrochromatography monolithic column was prepared by using precursor 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate with double-functional group hydrolysis/polycondensation in acidic aqueous solution, followed by double-bond co-polymerization with organic monomer hexadecyl mathacrylate under the thermal initiated condition, and the combination of preparation of silica-based monolithic column and organic polymer monolithic column was suggested. A simple operation of controlling sol mixture using mercury infusion when the mixture infused into capillary was raised to acquire smooth interface of stationary phase. The preparation conditions of monolithic column were optimized. The structure of the monolithic columns was characterized by SEM images and nitrogen absorption method, and the results showed that the median pore diameter of the materials was in the range of 3 to 7 nm with average surface area of 103.4 M2 g−1. The influence of buffer concentration, pH value, and organic modifier content on electroosmotic flow (EOF) velocity has been investigated. Seven neutral aromatic hydrocarbons were baseline separated with column efficiency of naphthalene up to 54000 plates m−1. The reproducibility for separation time and retention factor was given in terms of RSD values at 0.9% and 0.6% (n = 5) for run-to-run injections and 1.2% and 0.8% (n = 3) for day-to-day operations. The RSD values of separation time and capacity factor of different columns (n = 3) were 8.7 and 5.7%, respectively. The studies on performance of columns indicated that the columns possess typical reverse retention mechanism.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of porous crystalline materials composed of metal centers or clusters assembled with organic ligands. These materials possess excellent properties, such as large surface areas, high porosities, uniform pore sizes, and diverse structures. Thus, MOFs have been widely applied in various fields, including catalysis, adsorption, sensing, sample pretreatment, and chromatographic separation. The applications of MOFs as stationary phases for chromatographic separation and analysis have attracted considerable attention from the research community in recent years. Compared with traditional chromatographic stationary phases, such as mesoporous silica, nanoparticles, and porous layers, MOFs possess flexible and tunable pore sizes and structures, thereby enabling precise control over their intermolecular interactions. Furthermore, the wide range of functional ligands and topologies of MOFs could potentially facilitate the separation and analysis of complex samples. These unique advantages render MOFs highly suitable for constructing novel chromatographic stationary phases.This article focuses primarily on the construction methods of MOFs as chromatographic stationary phases, and provides an overview of the latest research advancements in their applications in several chromatographic separation techniques such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC), and capillary electrochromatography (CEC). The existing methods for the preparation and construction of MOFs-based chromatographic stationary phases are classified and evaluated. The construction methods for MOFs as stationary phases for HPLC mainly include filling, precursor-doped polymerization, and post-modification. The construction methods for MOFs as stationary phases for GC predominantly include in situ growth, static coating, and dynamic coating. The stationary phases for CEC can be categorized into packed columns, monolithic columns, and open-tubular columns. Compared with monolithic and packed columns, open-tubular CEC (OT-CEC) offers numerous advantages, including a more flexible and convenient preparation method, enhanced compatibility with various separation media, and higher separation efficiency. Consequently, OT-CEC has emerged as an important method for investigating the preparation of stationary phases for CEC. Several methods such as physical adsorption, covalent attachment, and electrostatic interactions have been developed for the preparation and modification of MOFs-based CEC stationary phases, and extensive studies have been conducted to optimize the performance and applications of MOFs in OT-CEC. However, the existing methods for constructing MOFs-based chromatographic stationary phases present certain limitations. Therefore, the selection of the appropriate MOFs, optimization of their preparation methods, and examination of their performance in different separation modes have become the focus of intensive research.This review also summarizes the different analytical targets (e. g., chiral small molecules, biomacromolecules, and nonchiral molecules) and corresponding separation effects achieved using various MOFs-based chromatographic stationary phases. Finally, future studies focusing on the development of MOFs as chromatographic separation media are discussed. Overall, this review provides a valuable reference for the rational construction and practical applications of advanced MOFs-based chromatographic stationary phases.
Homochiral iron-based γ-cyclodextrin metal-organic framework for stereoisomer separation in the open tubular capillary electrochromatography

Abstract:Metal organic frameworks (MOFs), as a novel separation mediums, have in recent years attracted wide consideration in capillary electrochromatography (CEC). However, the instability of frameworks limited the application of the MOF-based chiral separation capillary. Herein, Iron-based γ-cyclodextrin metal-organic framework (Fe-CD-MOF) with mesoporous was developed as the chiral stationary phase in open tubular capillary electrochromatography column (OT-CEC) for the stereoisomer separation of fourteen chiral drugs and one chiral alcohol. The capillary column with MOF coating exhibited the best performance (resolution value: 17.07) for anisodamine in any MOF-based capillary column that has never been reported. Moreover, the effect of pH, buffer concentration, and methanol content has been investigated. The novel coated capillary was also applied for the quantitative analysis of a real sample. The Fe-CD-MOF coated capillary showed outstanding repeatability and stability, with the satisfactory relative standard deviations (RSDs) for intra-day, inter-day, and column-to-column. Finally, the enantioseparation mechanism of the Fe-CD-MOF coated capillary was evaluated by adsorption kinetic experiments. In summary, this work indicated the novel and renewable Fe-CD-MOF was a potential chiral stationary phase in CEC chiral separation.

Abstract:The nickel organic framework capped with polyvinylpyrrolidone was prepared and synergistically immobilized onto porous silica surface as the mixed-mode stationary phase for high-performance liquid chromatography. Here, polyvinylpyrrolidone firstly was chosen as functional molecules to change morphology and size of the metal organic framework. The silica microspheres were then modified by them via a simple bonding method rather than in-situ growth method with the aid of electrostatic interaction commonly used before. The stationary phase showed flexible selectivity for separation of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic compounds, especially for hydrophilic compounds such as carbohydrates, alkaloids and sulfonamides etc. The chromatographic behaviors were evaluated by investigating various factors, and a typical mixed-mode retention feature of the column was observed. The composites could be prepared repetitively, and relative standard deviations of retention time of objective compounds among different batches were less than 1.75%. It also showed excellent chromatographic reproducibility, stability and potentiality for application in real samples. In short, the composites can be used for a feasible option for analysis of multiple compounds as the mixed-mode stationary phase and it provides a general approach for preparing MOFs-based composites by changing morphology and size of MOFs.

One-pot fabrication and evaluation of β-ketoenamine covalent organic frameworks@silica composite microspheres as reversed-phase/hydrophilic interaction mixed-mode stationary phase for high performance liquid chromatography

Abstract:Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) show promise as a stationary phase in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). However, there are only a few COFs-based stationary phases developed for HPLC separation so far. Therefore, it is crucial to not only develop more varieties of COFs-type stationary phases for HPLC separation, but also to explore the retention mechanism of solutes on these stationary phases. In this paper, a new in-situ growth method was developed to prepare β-ketoenamine COF-TpPa-1@SiO2 composite microspheres, using spherical silica as the core material and COF-TpPa-1 fabricated by covalent conjugation of 1,3,5-triformylphloroglucinol (Tp) and p-phenylenediamine (Pa-1) as the COF shells. The resulting microspheres exhibit uniform morphology, good monodispersity, large specific surface area, narrow size distribution, and high stability. Due to diverse functional groups in the structure of COF-TpPa-1, the microspheres can offer multiple interactions, such as hydrophobic, π-π stacking and electron-donor-acceptor (EDA) between COFs and analytes. As a result, the COF-TpPa-1@SiO2 composite microspheres can be used as a mixed-mode stationary phase for HPLC separation. The chromatographic performance and retention mechanism of the COF-TpPa-1@SiO2 packed column were investigated by separating polar and non-polar solutes, as well as isomers, in various HPLC modes, including reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RPLC), hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC), and RPLC/HILIC mixed-mode chromatography. The results showed successful separation of non-polar alkylbenzene homologues, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and polar amines and phenols in RPLC mode. The "U-shaped" curves of retention factor with the ACN concentration in mobile phase for four nucleobases indicated that the solute retention on the column followed a mixed mode mechanism of RPLC/HILIC. Compared to a traditional C18 column, the COF-TpPa-1@SiO2 column exhibited superior separation efficiency, stability, repeatability and reproducibility in the separation of analytes with different polarities. The column enhanced the aromatic, shape and planar selectivity for PAHs and isomers through π-π interaction and improved the separation efficiency for electron-deficient compounds due to EDA effect. At last, the column was successfully used to separate and detect the residues of 5 phenylurea herbicides (PUHs) in soil. All these results indicate the potential of COFs for chromatography applications.

Abstract:Here, silica microspheres were decorated with two-dimensional metal–organic frameworks (2D MOFs) nanosheets and ionic liquids, and evaluated as the mixed-mode stationary phase for chromatographic separation. The ionic liquids were used to assist the synthesis of 2D MOFs nanosheets, and also acted as adhesives among the nanosheets and silica. In contrast with the 2D MOFs-based column without ionic liquids and commercial columns, the prepared column exhibited enhanced chromatographic separation performance for partially hydrophilic compounds such as alkaloids, sulfonamides and antibiotics, etc. In addition to excellent chromatographic repeatability and stability, it has also been verified that the composites could be easily and repeatedly prepared. The relative standard deviation of the retention time of the same type of analyte between the three batches of materials was ranging from 0.21% to 1.7%. In short, these results indicated that the synthesized composites were promising separation material for liquid chromatography, which made it possible to broaden the application of 2D MOFs in the field of chromatography.

A Nanocrystalline Metal Organic Framework Confined in the Fibrous Pores of Core-Shell Silica Particles for Improved HPLC Separation

Abstract:A hybrid material was prepared from a metal-organic framework (MOF) and core-shell silica by using a kinetic controlling approach. The nanocrystalline MOF (HKUST-1) was prepared from 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate and copper(II) by tuning the reaction rate via the fraction of ethanol in the solvent. After the reaction rate was reduced to a certain degree, the pore surface would be well covered with Cu(II), which initiated the formation of a nanocrystalline HKUST-1. The resulting hybrid material was packed into a stainless-steel column (4.6 × 150 mm) and used as a stationary phase in high performance liquid chromatography. SiO2@dSiO2-HKUST-1 combined the merits of the high separation performance of the core-shell particles and the unique selectivity of the HKUST-1 nanocrystals. A separation efficiency as high as almost 140,000 plates per meter was achieved for the model analyte styrene. The material was stable and exhibited a highly reproductivity. The relative standard deviations of column-to-column, intra-day, and inter-day reproducibility of the SiO2@dSiO2-HKUST-1 packed columns for the retention time of styrene were 4.7%, 0.3%, and 0.4%, respectively.

Abstract:Abstract Despite an unprecedented number of publications on all aspects of type B aortic dissections, it remains a formidable disease with barely changed long-term survival over the last decade. In this review, the bewildering amount of information is summarized to distill some practical recommendations for the practitioner faced with one of these patients in the era of endovascular approaches to the aorta.
β-Cyclodextrin covalent organic framework–modified organic polymer monolith as a stationary phase for combined hydrophilic and hydrophobic aqueous capillary electrochromatographic separation of small molecules

Abstract:A β-Cyclodextrin covalent organic framework (β-CD COF) was successfully prepared under ambient temperature with a mild chemistry strategy from heptakis(6-amino-6-deoxy)-β-cyclodextrin and terephthalaldehyde. It was embedded into the poly[(glycidyl methacrylate)-co-(ethylene dimethacrylate)] [poly(GMA-co-EDMA)] monolith and served as the β-CD COF material–incorporated monolith. The synthetic materials were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray mapping analysis, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm. The β-CD COF material–incorporated monolith achieved baseline separation in capillary electrochromatographic separation of three amides, three amino acids, three nucleosides, four aromatic acids, and three positional isomers (with resolution values of three amides, 1.75 and 1.54; three amino acids, 5.24 and 1.75; three nucleosides, 2.56 and 1.77; four aromatic acids, 6.96, 2.74, and 1.64; three positional isomers, 1.61 and 1.50). In comparison with the original monolith, the β-CD COF material–incorporated monolith shows significantly enhanced resolution for mixed molecules. The effect of pH and concentration of buffer and applied voltage were discussed in detail. The fabricated monolith showed good stability and reproducibility (relative standard deviation (RSD) < 6.9%). Molecular modeling illuminated the interactions between the small molecules and stationary phase, and provided a sufficient theoretical basis for experimental data.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted a substantial amount of attention due to special properties, such as gas adsorption, chromatographic separation, and catalytic activity. Herein, a post-modification method was used to modify the surface of achiral MOFs using chiral polyaniline to synthesize a chiral core–shell composite (), which was used for the first time as a stationary phase for the separation of chiral compounds. Twelve kinds of chiral compounds, including alcohols, ketones, esters, aldehydes, organic acids and amines were separated on the packed column. Moreover, the column also showed good selectivity for the separation of positional isomers. Some chiral compounds that cannot be separated using a commercially available tris(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamoyl) amylose-packed column (AD column), could be separated on the column. The effects of the analyte mass and column temperature on the separation efficiency were investigated. The column exhibited good stability and reproducibility during the enantioseparation of chiral compounds. The composite gives rise to a synergistic effect by combining the advantages of c-PANI and MIL-101, which is favorable for an improvement in the chiral separation performance. Therefore, this work shows that such composite materials will be very attractive in the field of separation science.

Abstract:Although the relationship between fluoride and dental caries has been widely studied and definitively determined, the relationship between fluoride and periodontal health and disease is not clear. Conflicting studies in the literature either suggest routine fluoride usage as an adjunct to conventional periodontal therapy or argue against topical fluoride use on periodontally involved teeth. This review summarizes the literature that addresses the utility of fluoride in patients with periodontal disease and aims to advance a rational criterion for the use of fluorides in the management of periodontal diseases.
Enterococcal arthritis with avascular necrosis in a lupus patient.

Abstract:ENTEROCOCCAL septic arthritis is rare and has never been described in a lupus patient. We herein report such a case, with avascular necrosis as an additional predisposing factor for infection, several months after a catastrophic perinatal illness including septicaemia with the same bacterium, but having features of neither infection nor lupus in the intervening period. CASE HISTORY A 32-yr-old Chinese-born woman with a 12 yr history of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) was hospitalized in November 1993 with an acutely painful swollen left knee. She had been asymptomatic until 3 days prior to admission, when she noticed an audible crunch and sudden pain in the joint, and a tense effusion developed over the next few hours. Synovial fluid aspirated at that time yielded 34 000 white blood cells/mm3 (90% neutrophils); no crystals or organisms were seen on microscopy and cultures for bacteria, mycobacteria and fungi were all negative. Plain X-rays were normal, but an MRI scan showed an effusion and areas of infarction of varying ages in the distal femur and proximal tibia, consistent with avascular necrosis (Figs 1-3). There was no marrow oedema seen to suggest co-existent osteomyelitis, and the intra-articular structures were normal. Subsequent imaging studies revealed similar changes in the contralateral (asymptomatic) knee and both hips. The diagnosis of aseptic necrosis with secondary synovia's was made. Once the cultures were returned as negative, her maintenance dose of steroid was reduced and acetaminophen added for analgesia. Three months later, the left knee again become inflamed; on this occasion, the joint fluid contained 100 000 white blood cells/mm3, with no organisms visualized on microscopy, but after 3 days Enterococcus faecalis was cultured, sensitive to penicillin. She had not been febrile, systemically unwell or complaining of any symptoms other than left knee pain. Blood cultures were negative and plain X-rays were again normal. Antibiotic therapy with nafcillin and gentamycin was instituted, and then modified once the organism's sensitivities became known. The patient had had SLE since 1982, at which time she presented with arthralgia, discoid skin rash and fevers. Subsequently, she developed a vasculitic rash on the fingertips, pleuropericarditis and focal proliferative glomerulonephritis associated with haematuria, hypertension, renal impairment and hypocomplementaemia. Antinuclear antibodies were present in a speckled pattern, high-titre double-stranded (ds) DNA antibodies were detected and antibodies to Ro (SS-A), but not La (SS-B), were found. Abstract:A new approach to the preparation of enantioselective porous polymer monolithic columns with incorporated chiral metal-organic framework for nano-liquid chromatography has been developed. While no enantioseparation was achieved with monolithic poly(4-vinylpyridine-co-ethylene dimethacrylate) column, excellent separations of both enantiomers of (±)-methyl phenyl sulfoxide were achieved with its counterpart prepared after admixing metal-organic framework [Zn2 (benzene dicarboxylate)(l-lactic acid)(dmf)], which is synthesized from zinc nitrate, l-lactic acid, and benzene dicarboxylic acid in the polymerization mixture. These novel monolithic columns combined selectivity of the chiral framework with the excellent hydrodynamic properties of polymer monoliths, may provide a great impact on future studies in the field of chiral analysis by liquid chromatography.
