Abstract:We define typical forcings encompassing many informal forcing arguments in bounded arithmetic and give general conditions for such forcings to produce models of the universal variant of relativized $T^1_2$. We apply this result to study the relative complexity of total (type 2) NP search problems associated to finitary combinatorial principles. Complexity theory compares such problems with respect to polynomial time many-one or Turing reductions. From a logical perspective such problems are graded according to the bounded arithmetic theories that prove their totality. The logical analogue of a reduction is to prove the totality of one problem from the totality of another. The link between the two perspectives is tight for what we call universal variants of relativized bounded arithmetics. We strengthen a theorem of Buss and Johnson (2012) that infers relative bounded depth Frege proofs of totality from polynomial time Turing reducibility. As an application of our general forcing method we derive a strong form of Riis' finitization theorem (1993). We extend it by exhibiting a simple model-theoretic property that implies independence from the universal variant of relativized $T^1_2$ plus the weak pigeonhole principle. More generally, we show that the universal variant of relativized $T^1_2$ does not prove (the totality of the total NP search problem associated to) a strong finitary combinatorial principle from a weak one. Being weak or strong are simple model-theoretic properties based on the behaviour of the principles with respect to finite structures that are only partially defined.

Abstract:A topological space $X$ is Baire if the Baire Category Theorem holds for $X$, i.e., the intersection of any sequence of open dense subsets of $X$ is dense in $X$. One of the interesting problems for the space $B_1(X)$ of all Baire-one real-valued functions is characterization topological space $X$ for which the function space $B_1(X)$ is Baire. In this paper, we solve this problem, namely, we have obtained a characterization when a function space $B_1(X)$ has the Baire property for any Tychonoff space $X$. Also we proved that $B_1(X)$ is Baire for any $\gamma$-space $X$. This answers a question posed recently by T. Banakh and S. Gabriyelyan. We also conclude that, it is consistent there are no uncountable separable metrizable space $X$ such that $B_1(X)$ is countable dense homogeneous.

Abstract:We develop a toolbox for forcing over arbitrary models of set theory without the axiom of choice. In particular, we introduce a variant of the countable chain condition and prove an iteration theorem that applies to many classical forcings such as Cohen forcing and random algebras. Our approach sidesteps the problem that forcing with the countable chain condition can collapse $\omega_1$ by a recent result of Karagila and Schweber. Using this, we show that adding many Cohen reals and random reals leads to different theories. This result is due to Woodin. Thus one can always change the theory of the universe by forcing, just like the continuum hypothesis and its negation can be obtained by forcing over arbitrary models with choice. We further study principles stipulating that the first-order theory of the universe remains the same in all generic extension by a fixed class of forcings. Extending a result of Woodin, we show that even for very restricted classes such as the class of all finite support products of Cohen forcing or the class of all random algebras, this principle implies that all infinite cardinals have countable cofinality.

Abstract:We prove that for a stratifiable scattered space $X$ of finite scattered height, the function space $C_k(X)$ endowed with the compact-open topology is Baire if and only if $X$ has the Moving Off Property of Gruenhage and Ma. As a byproduct of the proof we establish many interesting Baire category properties of the function spaces $C_k'(X,Y)=\{f\in C_k(X,Y):f(X')\subset\{*_Y\}\}$, where $X$ is a topological space, $X'$ is the set of non-isolated points of $X$, and $Y$ is a topological space with a distinguished point $*_Y$.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of common fixed point of tower type contractive mappings in complete metric (pseudo)modular spaces involving the theoretic relation. However, the newly introduced contraction in this paper further characterize and includes in their full strength several existing results in metrical fixed point theory. Some nontrivial supportive examples were given to justify our result. Our results generalize, improve, and unify some existing results.

Abstract:It is consistent that the continuum be arbitrary large and no absolute $\kappa$-Borel set $X$ of density $\kappa$, $\aleph_1<\kappa<\mathfrak{c}$, condenses onto a compact metric space. It is consistent that the continuum be arbitrary large and any absolute $\kappa$-Borel set $X$ of density $\kappa$, $\kappa\leq\mathfrak{c}$, containing a closed subspace of the Baire space of weight $\kappa$, condenses onto a compactum. In particular, applying Brian's results in model theory, we get the following unexpected result. Given any $A\subseteq \mathbb{N}$ with $1\in A$, there is a forcing extension in which every absolute $\aleph_n$-Borel set, containing a closed subspace of the Baire space of weight $\aleph_n$, condenses onto a compactum if, and only if, $n\in A$.

Abstract:A set of reals is universally Baire if all of its continuous preimages in topological spaces have the Baire property. is a type of generic absoluteness condition introduced by Woodin that asserts in strong terms that the theory of the universally Baire sets cannot be changed by forcing. The ( ) is a determinacy axiom isolated by Woodin. It asserts that the largest Suslin cardinal is inaccessible for ordinal definable bijections. Let be the statement that in all (set) generic extensions there is a model of whose Suslin, co-Suslin sets are the universally Baire sets. We show that over some mild large cardinal theory, is equiconsistent with . In fact, we isolate an exact large cardinal theory that is equiconsistent with both (see Definition 2.7). As a consequence, we obtain that is weaker than the theory ' there is a Woodin cardinal which is a limit of Woodin cardinals'. A variation of , called , is also shown to be equiconsistent with over the same large cardinal theory. The result is proven via Woodin's technique and is essentially the ultimate equiconsistency that can be proven via the current interpretation of as explained in the paper.

Abstract:It is proved that every function of finite Baire index on a separable metric space $K$ is a $D$-function, i.e., a difference of bounded semi-continuous functions on $K$. In fact it is a strong $D$-function, meaning it can be approximated arbitrarily closely in $D$-norm, by simple $D$-functions. It is shown that if the $n^{th}$ derived set of $K$ is non-empty for all finite $n$, there exist $D$-functions on $K$ which are not strong $D$-functions. Further structural results for the classes of finite index functions and strong $D$-functions are also given.

Abstract:Let X be a Tychonoff topological space, B1(X,R) be the space of real-valued Baire 1 functions on X and τUC be the topology of uniform convergence on compacta. The main purpose of this paper is to study cardinal invariants of (B1(X,R),τUC). We prove that the following conditions are equivalent: (1) (B1(X,R),τUC) is metrizable; (2) (B1(X,R),τUC) is completely metrizable; (3) (B1(X,R),τUC) is Čech-complete; and (4) X is hemicompact. It is also proven that if X is a separable metric space with a non isolated point, then the topology of uniform convergence on compacta on B1(X,R) is seen to behave like a metric topology in the sense that the weight, netweight, density, Lindelof number and cellularity are all equal for this topology and they are equal to c=|B1(X,R)|. We find further conditions on X under which these cardinal invariants coincide on B1(X,R).

Abstract:Let $G$ be a locally compact second countable group equipped with an admissible non-degenerate Borel probability measure $\mu$. We generalize the notion of $\mu$-stationary systems to $\mu$-stationary $G$-factor maps $\pi: (X,\nu)\to (Y,\eta)$. For these stationary relations between dynamical systems, we provide a structure theorem, which generalizes the structure theorem of Furstenberg-Glasner. Furthermore, we show the existence and uniqueness of a relative version of the Poisson boundary in this setup.

Abstract:We initiate the study of Iwasawa theory for branched $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$-towers of finite connected graphs. These towers are more general than what have been studied so far, since the morphisms of graphs involved are branched covers, a particular kind of harmonic morphisms of graphs. We prove an analogue of Iwasawa's asymptotic class number formula for the $p$-part of the number of spanning trees in this setting. Moreover, we find an explicit generator for the characteristic ideal of the torsion Iwasawa module governing the growth of the $p$-part of the number of spanning trees in such towers.

Abstract:A topological space $X$ is Baire if the Baire Category Theorem holds for $X$, i.e., the intersection of any sequence of open dense subsets of $X$ is dense in $X$. One of the interesting problems in the theory of functional spaces is the characterization of the Baire property of a functional space through the topological property of the support of functions. In the paper this problem is solved for the space $M(X, K)$ of all measurable compact-valued ($K$-valued) functions defined on a measurable space $(X,\Sigma)$ with the topology of pointwise convergence. It is proved that $M(X, K)$ is Baire for any metrizable compact space $K$.

Abstract:Let $X$ and $Y$ be the Hausdorff topological spaces and let $A$ be both an $\fs$- and $\gd$- subset of $X$. Let also $f\cn A\to Y$ be a function for which the inverse image of every open subset $U\subset Y$ is $\fs$ in $X$. We show that $f$ can be linearly extended to a function with the same property defined on $X$. A similar result is proved for Baire-one function defined on an analogous subset of $\mR$. We give also an answer when the extension map is (with a supremum norm) an isometry.

Abstract:We investigate some versions of amoeba for tree-forcings in the generalized Cantor and Baire spaces. This answers [10, Question 3.20] and generalizes a line of research that in the standard case has been studied in [11], [13], and [7]. Moreover, we also answer questions posed in [3] by Friedman, Khomskii, and Kulikov, about the relationships between regularity properties at uncountable cardinals. We show $\Sigma_1^1$-counterexamples to some regularity properties related to trees without club splitting. In particular we prove a strong relationship between the Ramsey and the Baire properties, in slight contrast with the standard case.

Abstract:Recently, Amnon Neeman settled a bold conjecture by Antieau, Gepner, and Heller regarding the relationship between the regularity of finite-dimensional noetherian schemes and the existence of bounded $t$-structures on their derived categories of perfect complexes. In this paper, using different methods, we prove some very general results about the existence of bounded $t$-structures on (not necessarily algebraic or topological) triangulated categories and their invariance under completion. We show that if the opposite category of an essentially small triangulated category has finite finitistic dimension in our sense, then the existence of a bounded t-structure on it forces it to be equal to its completion. We also prove a parallel result regarding the equivalence of all bounded t-structures on any intermediate triangulated category between the starting category and its completion. Our general treatment, when specialized to the case of schemes, immediately gives us Neeman's theorem as an application and significantly generalizes another remarkable theorem by Neeman about the equivalence of bounded $t$-structures on the bounded derived categories of coherent sheaves. When specialized to other cases like associative rings, nonpositive DG-rings, connective $\mathbb{E}_1$-rings, triangulated categories without models, etc., we get many other applications. Under mild finiteness assumptions, these results not only give a categorical obstruction (the singularity category in our sense) to the existence of bounded $t$-structures on a triangulated category, but also provide plenty of triangulated categories on which all bounded $t$-structures are equivalent. The strategy used in our treatment is introducing a new concept of finitistic dimension for triangulated categories and lifting $t$-structures along completions of triangulated categories.

We also formalise and investigate the complexity of certain methods one can use to define, in $V$, subclasses of degrees over $V$.
