Abstract:It is shown that Maxwell equations for electromagnetic fields generated by the uniformly accelerated charge could be reduced to the Laplace equation (in Łobaczewski geometry) for a single scalar potential. The full solution of this equation is presented.

Abstract:Maxwell's equations are formulated in arbitrary moving frames by means of tetrad fields, which are interpreted as reference frames adapted to observers in space-time. We assume the existence of a general distribution of charges and currents in an inertial frame. Tetrad fields are used to project the electromagnetic fields and sources on accelerated frames. The purpose is to study several configurations of fields and observers that in the literature are understood as paradoxes. For instance, are the two situations, (i) an accelerated charge in an inertial frame, and (ii) a charge at rest in an inertial frame described from the perspective of an accelerated frame, physically equivalent? Is the electromagnetic radiation the same in both frames? Normally in the analysis of these paradoxes the electromagnetic fields are transformed to (uniformly) accelerated frames by means of a coordinate transformation of the Faraday tensor. In the present approach coordinate and frame transformations are disentangled, and the electromagnetic field in the accelerated frame is obtained through a frame (local Lorentz) transformation. Consequently the fields in the inertial and accelerated frames are described in the same coordinate system. This feature allows the investigation of paradoxes such as the one mentioned above.

Abstract: This article contains a digest of the theory of electromagnetism and a review of the transformation between inertial frames, especially under low speed limits. The covariant nature of the Maxwell's equations is explained using the conventional language. We show that even under low speed limits, the relativistic effects should not be neglected to get a self-consistent theory of the electromagnetic fields, unless the intrinsic dynamics of these fields has been omitted completely. The quasi-static limits, where the relativistic effects can be partly neglected are also reviewed, to clarify some common misunderstandings and imprecise use of the theory in presence of moving media and other related situations. The discussion presented in this paper provide a clear view of why classical electromagnetic theory is relativistic in its essence.

Abstract:In this work we present the results of a study of the possibility of using a homogeneous basis and a new generalization of coupled modes theory to describe inhomogeneous accelerating sections. It was shown that the single mode representation describes the electromagnetic fields with small errors in the regular part of the section. In the couplers the accuracy is worse, but it is small enough to be used in calculations. Solving the equations of generalized coupled modes theory requires calculating the derivatives of the fields with respect to various geometrical parameters. Procedures for calculating these derivatives have been developed.

Abstract:In this work we present the results of calculation of the electric field distribution in the inhomogeneous accelerating section on the base of generalized coupled modes theory. It was shown that the proposed coupled differential equations correctly describe electromagnetic field distribution in the regular part of the section under consideration, which is an analogue of the one being developed at CERN.

Abstract:Starting from the Whittaker potential of an accelerated point charge in its comoving frame,we discuss the calculations of electromagnetic potentials and field strengths of the charge in the inertial frame in which the charge keeps static instantaneously.Our strategy is to utilize a generalized Rindler transformation between the mentioned two frames,and our results on field strengths coincide with those derived from Green function methods or LienardWiechert potential.What is new of the paper relies on the fact that we have found a nonvanishing spatial component of the potential 4-vector in the instantaneously comoving frame,that eliminates a possible bug of Lienard-Wiechert potential.Our work does probably supply a solid starting point for utilizing Lorentz transformations to calculate the potential and field strength of a charged particle in general inertial frames.

Abstract:Garay-Avenda\~no \& Zamboni-Rached (2014) defined two classes of axisymmetric solutions of the free Maxwell equations. We prove that the linear combinations of these two classes of solutions cover all totally propagating time-harmonic axisymmetric free Maxwell fields -- and hence, by summation on frequencies, all totally propagating axisymmetric free Maxwell fields. It provides an explicit representation for these fields. This will be important, e.g., to have the interstellar radiation field in a disc galaxy modelled as an exact solution of the free Maxwell equations. Charged Particles and the Electro-Magnetic Field in Non-Inertial Frames of Minkowski Spacetime

Abstract:By using the 3+1 point of view and parametrized Minkowski theories we develop the theory of {\it non-inertial} frames in Minkowski space-time. The transition from a non-inertial frame to another one is a gauge transformation connecting the respective notions of instantaneous 3-space (clock synchronization convention) and of the 3-coordinates inside them. As a particular case we get the extension of the inertial rest-frame instant form of dynamics to the non-inertial rest-frame one. We show that every isolated system can be described as an external decoupled non-covariant canonical center of mass (described by frozen Jacobi data) carrying a pole-dipole structure: the invariant mass and an effective spin. Moreover we identify the constraints eliminating the internal 3-center of mass inside the instantaneous 3-spaces. In the case of the isolated system of positive-energy scalar particles with Grassmann-valued electric charges plus the electro-magnetic field we obtain both Maxwell equations and their Hamiltonian description in non-inertial frames. Then by means of a non-covariant decomposition we define the non-inertial radiation gauge and we find the form of the non-covariant Coulomb potential. We identify the coordinate-dependent relativistic inertial potentials and we show that they have the correct Newtonian limit. Then we study properties of Maxwell equations in non-inertial frames like the wrap-up effect and the Faraday rotation in astrophysics. Also the 3+1 description without coordinate-singularities of the rotating disk and the Sagnac effect are given, with added comments on pulsar magnetosphere and on a relativistic extension of the Earth-fixed coordinate system.

Abstract:Non-empty space reading of Maxwell equations as local energy identities explains why a Coulomb field is carried rigidly by electrons in experiments. The analytical solution of the Poisson equation defines the sharp radial shape of charged elementary densities which are proportional to continuous densities of electric self-energy. Inward and outward longitudinal waves within the continuous electron reshape its radial energy structure in external fields. Both Coulomb field and radial charge densities are free from energy divergences. Non-empty space of electrically charged mass-energy can be described by complex analytical densities resulting in real values for volume mass integrals and in imaginary values for volume charge integrals. Imaginary electric charges in the Newton gravitational law comply with real Coulomb forces. Unification of forces through complex charges rids them of radiation self-acceleration.

Abstract:The electromagnetic theory is considered in the framework of the generally covariant approach, that is applied to the analysis of electromagnetism in noninertial coordinate and frame systems. The special-relat\-ivistic formulation of Maxwell's electrodynamics arises in the flat Minkowski spacetime when the general coordinate transformations are restricted to a class of transformations preserving the Minkowski line element. The particular attention is paid to the analysis of the electromagnetism in the noninertial rotating reference system. For the latter case, the general stationary solution of the Maxwell equations in the absence of the electric current is constructed in terms of the two scalar functions satisfying the Poisson and the biharmonic equations with an arbitrary charge density as a matter source. The classic problem of Schiff is critically revisited.

Abstract:Free electromagnetic fields, satisfying Maxwell's equations with no charges and electric currents, can be described by complex vector fields. In the standard formulation with fields sharply dependent on position and time, one obtains integrals that are mathematically ill-defined. This happens for the massless Pauli--Jordan function, which is used to describe the time evolution of fields and appears in the Poisson brackets for classical fields. This difficulty can be solved by introducing smeared fields as linear functionals with test functions. In this way, the massless Pauli--Jordan function becomes a~tempered distribution, allowing a mathematically rigorous analysis.

Abstract:The fact that electromagnetic effects propagate at the speed of light suggests how the Lorenz-gauge scalar and vector potentials of a uniformly moving point charge must be modified when the charge was initially at rest and then set suddenly into uniform motion. The modified potentials are shown to satisfy the requisite inhomogeneous wave equations. The gauge function of the transformation of these potentials to the Coulomb gauge is calculated in closed form. It is validated by confirming that the Coulomb-gauge vector potential that is calculated using it yields together with the Coulomb-gauge scalar potential the same electric and magnetic fields as those calculated with the Lorenz-gauge potentials.

Abstract:Maxwell’s vacuum equations are integrated for admissible electromagnetic fields in homogeneous spaces. Admissible electromagnetic fields are those for which the space group generates an algebra of symmetry operators (integrals of motion) that is isomorphic to the algebra of group operators. Two frames associated with the group of motions are used to obtain systems of ordinary differential equations to which Maxwell’s equations reduce. The solutions are obtained in quadratures. The potentials of the admissible electromagnetic fields and the metrics of the spaces contained in the obtained solutions depend on six arbitrary time functions, so it is possible to use them to integrate field equations in the theory of gravity.

Abstract:In curved spacetime, Maxwell's equations can be expressed in forms valid in Minkowski background, with the effect of the metric (gravity) appearing as effective polarizations and magnetizations. The electric and magnetic (EM) fields depend on the observer's frame four-vector. We derive Maxwell's equations valid in general curved spacetime using the fields defined in the normal frame, the coordinate frame, and two other non-covariant methods used in the literature. By analyzing the case in the generic frame we show that the EM fields, as well as the charge and current densities, defined in non-covariant ways do not correspond to physical ones measured by an observer. We show that modification of the homogeneous part is inevitable to any observer, and such a modification is difficult to interpret as the effective medium property. The normal frame is the relevant one to use as it gives the EM fields measured by an Eulerian observer.

Abstract:Beginning from the integral forms of the four physics laws, we derive Maxwell’s equations for a mechano-driven, slow, nonuniform moving speed media system based on Galilean space and time, thus presenting a new approach for solving the electromagnetic field problems in a moving system with acceleration. For the electromagnetism of macro-objects on Earth, we believe that the relativistic effect can be generally ignored. Different from the classical texts on electrodynamics, which assumes motion is a constant speed along a straight line in the inertial frame, our theory describes the electromagnetism of the media systems in the noninertial frame with acceleration and time-dependent volume, shape, and boundary. Most importantly, the expanded Maxwell’s equations are solved through mathematical means. Our objective is to study the dynamics of coupling among the mechano-electric-magnetic multifields. Lastly, the expansion of the boundary conditions at the nanoscale boundaries and the application of the Maxwell’s equations in a lumped circuit system are discussed.

Abstract:We generalize the derivation of electromagnetic fields of a charged particle moving with a constant acceleration [1] to a variable acceleration (piecewise constants) over a small finite time interval using Coulomb's law, relativistic transformations of electromagnetic fields and Thomson's construction [2]. We derive the average Lorentz self-force for a charged particle in arbitrary non-relativistic motion via averaging the fields at retarded time.

Abstract:It is now widely accepted that the Maxwell equations of Electrodynamics constitute a self-consistent set of four independent partial differential equations. According to a certain school of thought, however, half of these equations - namely, those expressing the two Gauss' laws for the electric and the magnetic field - are redundant since they can be "derived" from the remaining two laws and the principle of conservation of charge. The status of the latter principle is thus elevated to a law of Nature more fundamental than, say, Coulomb's law. In this note we examine this line of reasoning and we propose an approach according to which the Maxwell equations may be viewed as a Backlund transformation relating fields and sources. The conservation of charge and the electromagnetic wave equations then simply express the integrability conditions of this transformation.
