Abstract:Let M be an n (>= 7)-dimensional complete submanifold with parallel mean curvature in the hyperbolic space Hn+p, whose mean curvature satisfies H-2-1 <= 0. Denote by angstrom and B-R(q) the trace free second fundamental form of M and the geodesic ball of radius R centered at q is an element of M, respectively. We prove that if lim(R ->infinity) sup integral(vertical bar angstrom vertical bar 2dM)(BR(q))/R-2 and if (integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n) dM)(2/n) + 2n(n-2)/3 root n(n-1) H(integral(M)vertical bar angstrom vertical bar(n/2)dM)(2/n) <= C(n), then M is congruent to an n-dimensional hyperbolic space or the Euclidean space R-n. Here C(n) is an explicit positive constant depending only on n. We also obtain a similar gap theorem in the case where n = 5, 6. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain a gap theorem for the Ricci curvature over complete noncompact locally conformally flat manifolds. We prove that if the Ricci curvature is nonnegative and decays faster than quadratic at infinity, then the manifold is flat.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the rigidity problem on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with constant k-curvature or constant quotient curvature. We prove that such manifolds must have constant sectional curvature under the assumption that the manifolds have positive sectional curvature. The same result is also held on closed locally conformally flat manifolds with totally geodesic boundary.

Abstract:The authors consider the problem of conformally deforming a metric such that the k-curvature defined by an elementary symmetric function of the eigenvalues of the Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor on a compact manifold with boundary to a prescribed function. A consequence of our main result is that there exists a complete metric such that the Monge-Ampère type equation with respect to its Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor is solvable, provided that the initial Bakry-Emery Ricci tensor belongs to a negative convex cone.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional closed hypersurface with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in a unit sphere. Denote by H and S the mean curvature and the squared length of the second fundamental form. We prove that if a(n, H) <= S <= alpha( n, H)+ CnH2, where n >= 4 and H not equal 0, then S = alpha( n, H) and M is a Clifford torus Sn-1(r(1)) x S-1(r(2)). Here alpha(n, H) = n + n(3)/2(n -1) H-2 - n(n - 2)/2(n - 1) root n(2)H(4) + 4(n - 1) H-2, and C-n is a positive constant explicitly depending on n. The emphasis is that our gap theorem imposes no restriction on the range of mean curvature. Moreover, we obtain gap theorems for complete hypersurfaces with constant mean curvature and constant scalar curvature in space forms.
Sharpening a gap theorem: nonnegative Ricci and small curvature concentration

Abstract:We sharpen a gap theorem of Chan & Lee for nonnegative Ricci curvature manifolds that have positive asymptotic volume ratio and small enough scale-invariant integral curvature (so-called "curvature concentration"), by showing that the curvature concentration need only depend linearly on the asymptotic volume ratio. We prove the result by exhibiting a long-time Ricci flow solution with faster than $1/t$ curvature decay, which allows us to shift the limiting contradiction argument to time infinity and thus obtain an explicit bound on the size of the gap.

Gap Theorem on Riemannian manifolds using Ricci flow

Abstract:In this work, we use the Ricci flow approach to study the gap phenomenon of Riemannian manifolds with non-negative curvature and sub-critical scaling invariant curvature decay. The first main result is a quantitative Ricci flow existence theory without non-collapsing assumption. We use it to show that complete non-compact manifolds with non-negative complex sectional curvature and sufficiently small average curvature decay are necessarily flat. The second main result concerns three-manifolds with non-negative Ricci curvature of quadratic decay. By combining our newly established curvature estimate and method in Kähler geometry, we show that if the curvature decays slightly faster even in average sense, the manifold must be flat. This strengthens a result of Reiris. In the compact case, we use the Ricci flow regularization to generalize the celebrated Gromov-Ruh Theorem in this direction.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Yau's rigidity problem for compact submanifolds with parallel mean curvature in pinched Riemannian manifolds. Firstly, we prove that if M-n is an oriented closed minimal submanifold in an (n + p)-dimensional complete simply connected Riemannian manifold Nn(+p), then there exists a constant delta(0)(n, p) is an element of (0, 1) such that if the sectional curvature of N satisfies (K) over bar (N) is an element of[delta(0)(n, p), 1], and if M has a lower bound for the sectional curvature and an upper bound for the normalized scalar curvature, then N is isometric to Sn+p. Moreover, M is either a totally geodesic sphere, one of the Clifford minimal hypersurfaces S-k(root k/n) x S-n (k)(root n-k/n) in Sn+1 for k = 1,..., n-1, or the Veronese submanifold in Sn+d, where d = 1/2n(n + 1) - 1. We then generalize the above theorem to the case where M ia a compact submanifold with parallel mean curvature in a pinched Riemannian manifold.

Abstract:In this paper we obtain first a gap theorem for a class of conformally compact Einstein manifolds with a renormalized volume that is close to its maximum value. We also use a blow-up method to derive curvature estimates for conformally compact Einstein manifolds with large renormalized volume. The major part of this paper is the study of how a property of the conformal infinity influences the geometry of the interior of a conformally compact Einstein manifold. Specifically we are interested in conformally compact Einstein manifolds with conformal infinity whose Yamabe invariant is close to that of the round sphere. Based on the approach initiated by Dutta and Javaheri we present a complete proof of the relative volume inequality(Y(partial derivative X,[(g) over cap])/Y(Sn-1 ,[gs]))(n-1) <= Vol(partial derivative B-g+(p,t))/Vol(partial derivative B-gH+(0,t)) <= Vol(B-g+(p,t))/Vol(B-gH+(0,t)) <= 1,for conformally compact Einstein manifolds. This leads not only to the complete proof of the rigidity theorem for conformally compact Einstein manifolds in arbitrary dimension without spin assumption but also a new curvature pinching estimate for conformally compact Einstein manifolds with conformal infinities having large Yamabe invariant. We also derive curvature estimates for such manifolds.

Abstract:By using the Yamabe flow, we prove that if $(M^n,g)$, $n\geq3$, is an $n$-dimensional locally conformally flat complete Riemannian manifold $Rc\geq \epsilon Rg>0$, where $\epsilon>0$ is a uniformly constant, then $M^n$ must be compact. Our result shows that Hamilton's pinching conjecture also holds for higher dimensional case if we assume additionally the metric is locally conformally flat.

Abstract:We discuss upper and lower bounds for the size of gaps in the length spectrum of negatively curved manifolds. For manifolds with algebraic generators for the fundamental group, we establish the existence of exponential lower bounds for the gaps. On the other hand, we show that the existence of arbitrary small gaps is topologically generic: this is established both for surfaces of constant negative curvature (Theorem 3.1), and for the space of negatively curved metrics (Theorem 4.1). While arbitrary small gaps are topologically generic, it is plausible that the gaps are not too small for almost every metric. One result in this direction is presented in Section 5.

Abstract:A classic gap theorem for complete non-compact Ricci flat manifolds by M. Anderson suggests that one can get the rigidity of certain spaces simply by passing local curvature estimates on geodesic balls to global. Using similar ideas, Kim showed that a 4-dimensional complete non-compact Bach-flat manifold with vanishing scalar curvature and small L 2 -curvature tensor has to be flat. Unfortunately, this method does not generalize to compact manifolds without boundary. Applying a different approach, we show that a closed Bach-flat Riemannian manifold with positive constant scalar curvature has to be locally spherical if its Weyl and traceless Ricci tensors are small in the sense of either L ∞ or L n 2 -norm. These results generalize a rigidity theorem of positive Einstein manifolds due to M.-A. Singer. As an application, we can partially recover the well-known Chang–Gursky–Yang's 4-dimensional conformal sphere theorem.

Abstract:Gromov and Sormani conjectured that a sequence of three dimensional Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature and some additional uniform geometric bounds should have a subsequence which converges in some sense to a limit space with generalized notion of nonnegative scalar curvature. In this paper, we study the pre-compactness of a sequence of three dimensional warped product manifolds with warped circles over standard $\mathbb{S}^2$ that have nonnegative scalar curvature, a uniform upper bound on the volume, and a positive uniform lower bound on the MinA, which is the minimum area of closed minimal surfaces in the manifold. We prove that such a sequence has a subsequence converging to a $W^{1, p}$ Riemannian metric for all $p<2$, and that the limit metric has nonnegative scalar curvature in the distributional sense as defined by Lee-LeFloch.

Abstract:In this paper, we derive a general pressure gap criterion for closed rank 1 manifolds whose singular sets are given by codimension 1 totally geodesic flat subtori. As an application, we show that under certain curvature constraints, potentials that decay faster than geometric potentials (towards to the singular set) have pressure gaps and have no phase transitions. Along the way, we prove that geometric potentials are Hölder continuous near singular sets.

Abstract:In this work, we investigate compact Kähler manifolds with non-negative or quasi-positive mixed curvature coming from a linear combination of the Ricci and holomorphic sectional curvature, which covers various notions of curvature considered in the literature. Specifically, we prove a splitting theorem, analogous to the Cheeger-Gromoll splitting theorem, for complete Kähler manifolds with non-negative mixed curvature containing a line, and then establish a structure theorem for compact Kähler manifolds with non-negative mixed curvature. We also show that the Hodge numbers of compact Kähler manifolds with quasi-positive mixed curvature must vanish. Both results are based on the conformal perturbation method.
