Abstract:We establish both the existence and uniqueness of non-negative global solutions for the nonlinear heat equation $u_t-\Delta u=|x|^{-\gamma}\,u^q$, $0<q<1$, $\gamma>0$ in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^N$, and for non-negative initial data $u_0\in C_0(\mathbb{R}^N)$.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate positive solutions of the degenerate parabolic equation not in divergence form: ut=upΔu+auq−bur, subject to the null Dirichlet boundary condition. We at first discuss the existence and nonexistence of global solutions to the problem, and then study the large time behavior for the global solutions. When the positive source dominates the model, we prove that the global solutions uniformly tend to the positive steady state of the problem as t→∞. In particular, we establish the uniform asymptotic profiles for the decay solutions when the problem is governed by the nonlinear diffusion or absorption.

Abstract:We consider the Cauchy-problem for a parabolic equation of the following type: \begin{equation*} \frac{\partial u}{\partial t}= \Delta u+ f(u,|x|), \end{equation*} where $f=f(u,|x|)$ is supercritical. We supply this equation by the initial condition $u(x,0)=\phi$, and we allow $\phi$ to be either bounded or unbounded in the origin but smaller than stationary singular solutions. We discuss local existence and long time behaviour for the solutions $u(t,x;\phi)$ for a wide class of non-homogeneous non-linearities $f$. We show that in the supercritical case, Ground States with slow decay lie on the threshold between blowing up initial data and the basin of attraction of the null solution. Our results extend previous ones allowing Matukuma-type potential and more generic dependence on $u$. Then, we further explore such a threshold in the subcritical case too. We find two families of initial data $\zeta(x)$ and $\psi(x)$ which are respectively above and below the threshold, and have arbitrarily small distance in $L^{\infty}$ norm, whose existence is new even for $f(u,r)=u^{q-1}$. Quite surprisingly both $\zeta(x)$ and $\psi(x)$ have fast decay (i.e. $\sim |x|^{2-n}$), while the expected critical asymptotic behavior is slow decay (i.e. $\sim |x|^{2/q-2}$).

Abstract:We study the existence and uniqueness of the positive solutions of the problem (P): $\partial_tu-\Delta u+u^q=0$ ($q>1$) in $\Omega\times (0,\infty)$, $u=\infty$ on $\partial\Omega\times (0,\infty)$ and $u(.,0)\in L^1(\Omega)$, when $\Omega$ is a bounded domain in $\mathbb R^N$. We construct a maximal solution, prove that this maximal solution is a large solution whenever $q<N/(N-2)$ and it is unique if $\partial\Omega=\partial\bar\Omega^c$. If $\partial\Omega$ has the local graph property, we prove that there exists at most one solution to problem (P)

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of normalized solutions for the following $(2, q)$-Laplacian equation \begin{equation*}\label{Eq-Equation1} \left\{\begin{array}{l} -\Delta u-\Delta_q u+\lambda u=f(u) \quad x \in \mathbb{R}^N , \\ \int_{\mathbb{R}^N}u^2 d x=c^2, \\ \end{array}\right. \end{equation*} where $1<q<N$, $N\geq3$, $\Delta_q=\operatorname{div}\left(|\nabla u|^{q-2} \nabla u\right)$ denotes the $q$-Laplacian operator, $\lambda$ is a Lagrange multiplier and $c>0$ is a constant. The nonlinearity $f:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ is continuous, with mass-subcritical growth at the origin, mass-supercritical growth at infinity, and is more general than the sum of two powers. Under different assumptions, we prove the existence of a locally least-energy solution and the existence of a second solution with higher energy.

A priori estimates and Liouville-type theorems for the semilinear parabolic equations involving the nonlinear gradient source

Abstract:This paper is concerned with the local and global properties of nonnegative solutions for semilinear heat equation $u_t-\Delta u=u^p+M|\nabla u|^q$ in $\Omega\times I\subset \R^N\times \R$, where $M>0$, and $p,q>1$. We first establish the local pointwise gradient estimates when $q$ is subcritical, critical and supercritical with respect to $p$. With these estimates, we can prove the parabolic Liouville-type theorems for time-decreasing ancient solutions. Next, we use Gidas-Spruck type integral methods to prove the Liouville-type theorem for the entire solutions when $q$ is critical. Finally, as an application of the Liouville-type theorem, we use the doubling lemma to derive universal priori estimates for local solutions of parabolic equations with general nonlinearities. Our approach relies on a parabolic differential inequality containing a suitable auxiliary function rather than Keller-Osserman type inequality, which allows us to generalize and extend the partial results of the elliptic equation (Bidaut-Véron, Garcia-Huidobro and Véron (2020) \cite{veron-sum}) to the parabolic case.

Assume that $u_0$ is a smooth and decaying function, $$\|u_0\|\:=\sup_{x\in \mathbb{R}^3, t\in \mathbb{R}_+} |u(x,t)|.$$ It is proved that problem (1) has a unique global solution and this solution satisfies the following estimate $$\|u(x,t)\|<c, $$ where $c>0$ does not depend on $x,t$.

Hölder Continuity of the Gradient of Solutions to Doubly Non-Linear Parabolic Equations

Abstract:This paper is devoted to studying the local behavior of non-negative weak solutions to the doubly non-linear parabolic equation \begin{equation*} \partial_t u^q - \text{div}\big(|D u|^{p-2}D u\big) = 0 \end{equation*} in a space-time cylinder. Hölder estimates are established for the gradient of its weak solutions in the super-critical fast diffusion regime $0<p-1< q<\frac{N(p-1)}{(N-p)_+}$ where $N$ is the space dimension. Moreover, decay estimates are obtained for weak solutions and their gradient in the vicinity of possible extinction time. Two main components towards these regularity estimates are a time-insensitive Harnack inequality that is particular about this regime, and Schauder estimates for the parabolic $p$-Laplace equation.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the local gradient regularity of non-negative weak solutions to doubly nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations of the type \begin{align*} \partial_t u^q - \mbox{div}\, A(x,t,Du)=0 \qquad\mbox{in $\Omega_T$}, \end{align*} with $q>0$, $\Omega_T=\Omega\times(0,T)\subset\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ a space-time cylinder, and $A=A(x,t,\xi)$ a vector field satisfying standard $p$-growth conditions. Our main result establishes the local Hölder continuity of the spatial gradient of non-negative weak solutions in the super-critical fast diffusion regime $$0<p-1<q<\frac{n(p-1)}{(n-p)_+}.$$ This result is achieved by utilizing a time-insensitive Harnack inequality and Schauder estimates that are developed for equations of parabolic $p$-Laplacian type. Additionally, we establish a local $L^{\infty}$-bound for the spatial gradient.

Abstract:We consider nonnegative solutions of the quasilinear heat equation $\partial_t u = \tfrac{1}{2} u \partial_x^2 u$ in one dimension. Our solutions may vanish and may be unbounded. The equation is then degenerate, and weak solutions are generally nonunique. We introduce a notion of strong solution that ensures uniqueness. For suitable initial data, we prove a lower bound on the time for which a strong solution $u$ exists and $\sqrt{u}$ remains globally Lipschitz in space. In a companion paper, we show that this condition is important in the study of two-dimensional nonlinear stochastic heat equations.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider the following quasilinear Schrödinger equation \begin{align*} -\Delta u-u\Delta(u^{2})=k(x)\left\vert u\right\vert ^{q-2}u-h(x)\left\vert u\right\vert ^{s-2}u\text{, }u\in D^{1,2}(\mathbb{R}^{N})\text{,} \end{align*} where $1<q<2<s<+\infty$. Unlike most results in the literature, the exponent $s$ here is allowed to be supercritical $s>2\cdot2^{\ast}$. By taking advantage of geometric properties of a nonlinear transformation $f$ and a variant of Clark's theorem, we get a sequence of solutions with negative energy in a space smaller than $D^{1,2}(\mathbb{R}^{N})$. Nonnegative solution at negative energy level is also obtained.

Abstract:We consider non-negative, weak solutions to the doubly nonlinear parabolic equation $$ \partial_t u^q-\mbox{div}(|Du|^{p-2}Du)=0 $$ in the super-critical fast diffusion regime $0<p-1<q<\frac{N(p-1)}{(N-p)_+}$. We show that when solutions vanish continuously at the Lipschitz boundary of a parabolic cylinder $\Omega_T$, they satisfy proper Carleson estimates. Assuming further regularity for the boundary of the domain $\Omega_T$, we obtain a power-like decay at the boundary and a boundary Harnack inequality.

Abstract:In this paper we establish uniqueness in the inverse boundary value problem for the two coefficients in the inhomogeneous porous medium equation $\epsilon\partial_tu-\nabla\cdot(\gamma\nabla u^m)=0$, with $m>1$, in dimension 3 or higher, which is a degenerate parabolic type quasilinear PDE. Our approach relies on using a Laplace transform to turn the original equation into a coupled family of nonlinear elliptic equations, indexed by the frequency parameter ($1/h$ in our definition) of the transform. A careful analysis of the asymptotic expansion in powers of $h$, as $h\to\infty$, of the solutions to the transformed equation, with special boundary data, allows us to obtain sufficient information to deduce the uniqueness result.

Abstract:This paper investigates the properties of nonnegative solutions of a quasilinear degenerate parabolic system {ut−div(|∇u|p−2∇u)=a∫Ωvα(x,t)dx,vt−div(|∇v|q−2∇v)=b∫Ωuβ(x,t)dx with zero Dirichlet boundary conditions in a smooth bounded domain Ω⊂RN(N≥1), where p,q>2, α,β≥1, and a,b>0 are positive constants. Under appropriate hypotheses, we first establish the local existence and uniqueness of solutions, then we show that whether or not the solution blows up in finite time depends on the initial data and the relations between αβ and (p−1)(q−1). In the special case of α=q−1 and β=p−1, we conclude that the solution exists globally if ∫Ωϕp−1dx∫Ωψq−1dx≤1/(ab), while if ∫Ωϕp−1dx∫Ωψq−1dx>1/(ab) then the solution blows up in finite time. Here ϕ(x) and ψ(x) denote the unique solution of the following elliptic problem −div(|∇ϕ|p−2∇ϕ)=1 in Ω, ϕ(x)|∂Ω=0 and −div(|∇ψ|q−2∇ψ)=1 in Ω, ψ(x)|∂Ω=0, respectively.

We study the existence of global solutions and the large time behavior for them. The main effort is paid to obtain uniform asymptotic profiles for decay solutions, under various dominations of the nonlinear diffusion or absorption. It is shown that the large time property of the solution u behaves just like (1+(r−1)t)(−1/r−1) if the decay is governed by the nonlinear absorption with 1p+1=q+2; and (iii) −ΔW=W1−p if r,q+2>p+1.

Higher Hölder regularity for a subquadratic nonlocal parabolic equation

Abstract:In this paper, we are concerned with the Hölder regularity for solutions of the nonlocal evolutionary equation $$ \partial_t u+(-\Delta_p)^s u = 0. $$ Here, $(-\Delta_p)^s$ is the fractional $p$-Laplacian, $0<s<1$ and $1<p<2$. We establish Hölder regularity with explicit Hölder exponents. We also include the inhomogeneous equation with a bounded inhomogeneity. In some cases, the obtained Hölder exponents are almost sharp. Our results complement the previous results for the superquadratic case when $p\geq 2$.
