Abstract:We prove a Bernstein type theorem for ancient solutions to the mean curvature flow in higher codimension. More precisely, we show that for a complete ancient solution { M t } t ∈ ( − ∞ , 0 ) \{M_t\}_{t\in (-\infty ,0)} , if the mean curvature vector is uniformly bounded and the ω \omega -function for M t M_t satisfies ω ≥ ω 0 \omega \geq \omega _0 uniformly for some constant ω 0 > 1 2 \omega _0>\frac {1}{\sqrt {2}} , then M t M_t must be an affine subspace for each t ∈ ( − ∞ , 0 ) t\in (-\infty ,0) .

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of solutions to the centroaffine Minkowski problem, namely the existence of closed convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space R n + 1 \mathbb {R}^{n+1} with prescribed centroaffine curvature. This problem can be described as a variational problem with a functional resembling Kantorovich’s dual functional in optimal transportation. By using the Gauss curvature flow, we obtain new conditions for the existence of solutions to the problem.

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the rigidity of ancient solutions of the mean curvature flow with arbitrary codimension in space forms. We first prove that under certain sharp asymptotic pointwise curvature pinching condition the ancient solution in a sphere is either a shrinking spherical cap or a totally geodesic sphere. Then we show that under certain pointwise curvature pinching condition the ancient solution in a hyperbolic space is a family of shrinking spheres. We also obtain a rigidity result for ancient solutions in a nonnegatively curved space form under an asymptotic integral curvature pinching condition.

Abstract:In this article, we study the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem based on the Gauss curvature flow in Li et al. We deal with some cases in which there is no uniform estimate for the Gauss curvature flow. By the use of the topological method in Guang et al., a special initial condition is chosen such that the Gauss curvature flow converges to a solution of the Musielak-Orlicz-Gauss image problem.

Abstract:We derive interior curvature bounds for admissible solutions of a class of curvature equations subject to affine Dirichlet data, generalizing a well-known estimate of Pogorelov for equations of Monge-Ampere type. For equations for which convexity of the solution is the natural ellipticity assumption, the curvature bound is proved for solutions with C-1,C-1 Dirichlet data. We also use the curvature bounds to improve and extend various existence results for the Dirichlet and Plateau problems.

Abstract:In this paper we study a contracting flow of closed, convex hypersurfaces in the Euclidean space ℝ^n+1 with speed f r^α K, where K is the Gauss curvature, r is the distance from the hypersurface to the origin, and f is a positive and smooth function. If α≥ n+1, we prove that the flow exists for all time and converges smoothly after normalisation to a soliton, which is a sphere centred at the origin if f ≡ 1. Our argument provides a parabolic proof in the smooth category for the classical Aleksandrov problem, and resolves the dual q-Minkowski problem introduced by Huang, Lutwak, Yang and Zhang (Acta Math. 216 (2016): 325-388), for the case q<0. If α < n+1, corresponding to the case q>0, we also establish the same results for even function f and origin-symmetric initial condition, but for non-symmetric f, counterexample is given for the above smooth convergence.

Abstract:Recently, Pipoli and Sinestrari [Pipoli, G. and Sinestrari, C., Mean curvature flow of pinched submanifolds of ℝℙ n , Comm. Anal. Geom. , 25 , 2017, 799–846] initiated the study of convergence problem for the mean curvature flow of small codimension in the complex projective space ℝℙ m . The purpose of this paper is to develop the work due to Pipoli and Sinestrari, and verify a new convergence theorem for the mean curvature flow of arbitrary codimension in the complex projective space. Namely, the authors prove that if the initial submanifold in ℝℙ m satisfies a suitable pinching condition, then the mean curvature flow converges to a round point in finite time, or converges to a totally geodesic submanifold as t → ∞. Consequently, they obtain a differentiable sphere theorem for submanifolds in the complex projective space.

Abstract:In this paper, the mean curvature flow of complete submanifolds in Euclidean space with convex Gauss image and bounded curvature is studied. The confinable property of the Gauss image under the mean curvature flow is proved, which in turn helps one to obtain the curvature estimates. Then the author proves a long time existence result. The asymptotic behavior of these solutions when t → ∞ is also studied.

Abstract:We prove that smooth convex $\alpha$-noncollapsed ancient mean curvature flow satisfies a quantitative curvature estimate $H(y,t)\leq CH(x,t)(H(x,t)|x-y|+1)^2$ for any pair of $x,y$. In other words, the rescaled curvature grows at most quadratically in terms of the rescaled extrinsic distance.

Abstract:We construct an $I$-family of ancient graphical mean curvature flows over a minimal hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ of finite total curvature with the Morse index $I$ by establishing exponentially fast convergence in terms of $|x|^2-t$. As a corollary, we show that these ancient flows have finite total curvature and finite mass drop. Moreover, one family of these flows is mean convex by a pointwise estimate.

Abstract:We study solutions of the mean curvature flow which are defined for all negative curvature times, usually called ancient solutions. We give various conditions ensuring that a closed convex ancient solution is a shrinking sphere. Examples of such conditions are: a uniform pinching condition on the curvatures, a suitable growth bound on the diameter or a reverse isoperimetric inequality. We also study the behaviour of uniformly k-convex solutions, and consider generalizations to ancient solutions immersed in a sphere.

Abstract:We prove some estimates for convex ancient solutions (the existence time for the solution starts at1 ) to the power-of-mean curvature flow, when the power is strictly greater than 1 . As an application, we prove that in dimension two, the blow-down of an entire convex translating solution, namely uh D 1 u.h 1 1C x/, locally uniformly converges to 1 1C jxj 1C as h!1. Another application is that for the generalized curve shortening flow (convex curve evolving in its normal direction with speed equal to a power of its curvature), if the convex compact ancient solution sweeps the whole space R 2 , it must be a shrinking circle. Otherwise the solution must be defined in a strip region.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate Hessian curvature hypersurfaces with prescribed Gauss images. Given geodesically strictly convex bounded domains $\Omega$ in $\mathbb{R}^n$ and $\tilde{\Omega}$ in the unit hemisphere, we prove that there is a strictly convex graphic hypersurface defined in $\Omega$ with prescribed $k$-Hessian curvatures such that its Gauss image is $\tilde{\Omega}$. Our proof relies on a novel $C^2$ boundary estimate which utilizes the orthogonal invariance of hypersurfaces. Indeed, we employ some special vector fields generated by the infinitesimal rotations in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ to establish the boundary $C^2$ estimates. This new approach enables us to handle the additional negative terms that arise when taking second order derivatives near the boundary.

Abstract:We consider the evolution of hypersurfaces on the unit sphere $\mathbb{S}^{n+1}$ by smooth functions of the Weingarten map. We introduce the notion of `quasi-ancient' solutions for flows that do not admit non-trivial, convex, ancient solutions. Such solutions are somewhat analogous to ancient solutions for flows such as the mean curvature flow, or 1-homogeneous flows. The techniques presented here allow us to prove that any convex, quasi-ancient solution of a curvature flow which satisfies a backwards in time uniform bound on mean curvature must be stationary or a family of shrinking geodesic spheres. The main tools are geometric, employing the maximum principle, a rigidity result in the sphere and an Alexandrov reflection argument. We emphasize that no homogeneity or convexity/concavity restrictions are placed on the speed, though we do also offer a short classification proof for several such restricted cases.

Abstract:In the last 15 years, White and Huisken-Sinestrari developed a far-reaching structure theory for the mean curvature flow of mean convex hypersurfaces. Their papers provide a package of estimates and structural results that yield a precise description of singularities and of high curvature regions in a mean convex flow. In the present paper, we give a new treatment of the theory of mean convex (and k-convex) flows. This includes: (1) an estimate for derivatives of curvatures, (2) a convexity estimate, (3) a cylindrical estimate, (4) a global convergence theorem, (5) a structure theorem for ancient solutions, and (6) a partial regularity theorem. Our new proofs are both more elementary and substantially shorter than the original arguments. Our estimates are local and universal. A key ingredient in our new approach is the new non- collapsing result of Andrews. Some parts are also inspired by the work of Perelman. In a forthcoming paper, we will give a new construction of mean curvature flow with surgery based on the theorems established in the present paper.
