Abstract:In this paper, we investigate the concept of infinite dense-lineability recently introduced by M. Calderón-Moreno, P. Gerlach-Mena and J. Prado-Bassas. We answer a question posed by the authors about the equivalence between infinite (pointwise) dense-lineability and (pointwise) dense-lineability. We prove that the equivalence always holds in first-countable topological vector spaces and under some assumptions about the weight of the topology. However, the equivalence is not always true, as shown in an example. Furthermore, we introduce the notions of infinite $(\alpha,\beta)$-dense-lineability and infinite (strongly) dense-algebrability and obtain some analogous results in these cases. We also obtain a criterion for strongly dense-algebrability for sets of the form $X\setminus Y$, where $X$ is a free algebra and $Y$ is a free subalgebra of $X$.

Abstract:A subset $A$ of a vector space $X$ is called $\alpha$-lineable whenever $A$ contains, except for the null vector, a subspace of dimension $\alpha$. If $X$ has a topology, then $A$ is $\alpha$-spaceable if such subspace can be chosen to be closed. The vast existing literature on these topics has shown that positive results for lineability and spaceability are quite common. Recently, the stricter notions of $\left( \alpha,\beta\right) $% -lineability/spaceability were introduced as an attempt to shed light to more subtle issues. In this paper, among other results, we prove some general criteria for the notion of $\left( \alpha,\beta\right) $-spaceability and, as applications, we extend recent results of different authors.

Abstract:The bounded linear regularity property plays a key role in the study of the strong convergence and/or convergence rate of the CQ algorithm for solving split feasibility problems. To establish some sufficient conditions ensuring the bounded linear regularity property for split feasibility problems in normed linear spaces, we introduce the notion of a relative regularity condition and its associated relative regularity constant in spirit of the regularity condition used in Burke and Ferris (1995) [12]. Based on convex analysis techniques, we explore equivalent characterizations of the relative regularity condition, which in particular extend the classical results in Burke and Ferris (1995) [12] from the Euclidean space to general normed linear spaces, and then establish some important and useful properties in terms of the related relative regularity constant. Consequently, we develop a new technique to establish some sufficient conditions ensuring the bounded linear regularity property for split feasibility problems in normed linear spaces. The sufficient conditions presented in this paper are in terms of the relative regularity constant, which seem completely new. Applied to the case of Hilbert spaces, our results extend and improve the corresponding ones in Wang et al. (2017) [35] by relaxing the relevant assumptions.(c) 2023 Elsevier Inc. A note on nonseparable Lipschitz-free spaces

Abstract:We prove that several classical Banach space properties are equivalent to separability for the class of Lipschitz-free spaces, including Corson's property ($\mathcal{C}$), Talponen's Countable Separation Property, or being a Gâteaux differentiability space. On the other hand, we single out more general properties where this equivalence fails. In particular, the question whether the duals of non-separable Lipschitz-free spaces have a weak$^*$ sequentially compact ball is undecidable in ZFC. Finally, we provide an example of a nonseparable dual Lipschitz-free space that fails the Radon-Nikodým property.

Abstract:In this paper we look for the existence of large linear and algebraic structures of sequences of measurable functions with different modes of convergence. Concretely, the algebraic size of the family of sequences that are convergent in measure but not a.e. pointwise, uniformly but not pointwise convergent, and uniformly convergent but not in <span class="InlineEquation">$L^1$</span>-norm, are analyzed. These findings extend and complement a number of earlier results by several authors.

Abstract:This note presents an extension of a result within the concept of [S]-lineability, originally developed in 2019 by L. Bernal-González, J.A. Conejero, M. Murillo-Arcila, and J.B. Seoane-Sepúlveda . Additionally, we provide a characterization in terms of lineability in the context of complements of unions of closed subspaces in F-spaces, and finally, we present a negative result in both normed spaces and p-Banach spaces. These findings contribute to the understanding of linearity in exotic settings in topological vector spaces.

New Results in Analysis of Orlicz-Lorentz spaces

Abstract:In this article, we investigate the existence of closed vector subspaces (i.e.spaceability) in various nonlinear subsets of Orlicz-Lorentz spaces $\Lambda_{\varphi,w}$, equipped with the Luxemburg norm. If a family of Orlicz functions $(\varphi_n)_{n=1}^{\infty}$ satisfies certain order relations with respect to a given Orlicz function $\varphi$, the subset of the order-continuous subspace $(\Lambda_{\varphi,w})_a$ whose elements do not belong to $\bigcup_{n=1}^{\infty}\Lambda_{\varphi_n,w}$ is spaceable, and even maximal-spaceable when $\varphi$ satisfies the $\Delta_2$-condition. We also show that this subset is either residual or empty. In addition, sufficient conditions for this subset not being $(\alpha, \beta)$-spaceable are provided. A similar analysis is also performed on the subset $\Lambda_{\varphi,w} \setminus (\Lambda_{\varphi,w})_a$ when $\varphi$ does not satisfy the $\Delta_2$-condition. The comparison between different Orlicz-Lorentz spaces is characterized via the generating pairs $(\varphi,w)$. For a fixed Orlicz function that satisfies the $\Delta_2^{\infty}$-condition, we provide a characterization of disjointly strictly singular inclusion operators between Orlicz-Lorentz spaces with different weights. As a consequence, there are certain subsets of Orlicz-Lorentz spaces on $[0,1]$ for which lineability problem is not valid. Moreover, various types of $(\alpha,\beta)$-lineability and pointwise lineability properties on other nonlinear subsets of Orlicz-Lorentz spaces are examined. These results extend a number of previously known results in Orlicz and Lorentz spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that the set of continuous functions defined on $\mathbb{R}^n$ that approach zero at infinity and attain their maximum at precisely one (and only one) point is $n$-lineable but not $(n+2)$-lineable. This result complements some recent published works on an open question originally posed by Vladimir I. Gurariy (1935--2005) in 2003.

Differential Geom. 62 (2002), 17-38 for $p > 1$ that is non convex and does not represent a norm in $\mathbb{R}^m$. Moreover, we address results for discontinuous functional at a point. As an application, we study critical points of the sequence of affine functionals $\Phi_m$ on a subspace $W_m$ of dimension $m$ given by \[ \Phi_m(u)=\frac{1}{p}\mathcal{E}_{p, \Omega}^{p}(u) - \frac{1}{\alpha}\|u\|^{\alpha}_{L^\alpha(\Omega)}- \int_{\Omega}f(x)u dx, \] where $1<\alpha<p$, $[W_m]_{m \in \mathbb{N}}$ is dense in $W^{1,p}_0(\Omega)$ and $f\in L^{p'}(\Omega)$, with $\frac{1}{p}+\frac{1}{p'}=1$.

Abstract:In general, some of the well known results of measure theory dealing with the convergence of sequences of functions such as the Dominated Convergence Theorem or the Monotone Convergence Theorem are not true when we consider arbitrary nets of functions instead of sequences. Abstract:This paper is inspired by the paper of Leonetti, Russo and Somaglia [\textit{Dense lineability and spaceability in certain subsets of $\ell_\infty$.} Bull. London Math. Soc., 55: 2283--2303 (2023)] and the lineability problems raised therein. It concerns the properties of $\ell_\infty$ subsets defined by cluster points of sequences. Using the fact that the set of cluster points of a sequence $x$ depends only on its equivalence class in $\ell_\infty/c_0$ and that the quotient space $\ell_\infty/c_0$ is isometrically isomorphic to $C(\beta\mathbb{N}\setminus\mathbb{N})$, we are able to translate lineability problems from $\ell_\infty$ to $C(\beta\mathbb{N}\setminus\mathbb{N})$. We prove that for a compact space $K$ with properties similar to those of $\beta\mathbb{N}\setminus\mathbb{N}$, the sets of continuous functions $f$ in $C(K)$ with $\vert\operatorname{rng}(f)\vert=\omega$ and those $f$ with $\vert\operatorname{rng}(f)\vert=\mathfrak c$ contain, up to zero function, an isometric copy of $c_0(\kappa)$ for uncountable cardinal $\kappa$. Specializing those results to some closed subspaces $K$ of $\beta\mathbb{N}\setminus\mathbb{N}$ we are able to generalize known results to their ideal versions.

Abstract:Generalizing a recent result on lineability of sets of non-injective linear operators, we prove, for quite general linear spaces $A$ of maps from an arbitraty set to a sequence space, that, for every $0 \neq f \in A$, the subset of $A$ of non-injective maps contains an infinite dimensional subspace of $A$ containing $f$. We provide aplications of the main result to spaces of linear operators between quasi-Banach spaces, to spaces of linear operators belonging to an operator ideal, and, in the nonlinear setting, to linear spaces of homogeneous polynomials and to linear spaces of vector-valued Lispshitz functions on metric spaces.

Searching for linear structures in the failure of the Stone-Weierstrass theorem

Abstract:We investigate the failure of the Stone-Weierstrass theorem focusing on the existence of large dimensional vector spaces within the set $\mathcal{C}(L, \mathbb{K}) \setminus \overline{\mathcal{A}}$, where $L$ is a compact Hausdorff space and $\mathcal{A}$ is a self-adjoint subalgebra of $\mathcal{C}(L, \mathbb{K})$ that vanishes nowhere on $L$ but does not necessarily separate the points of $L$. We address the problem of finding the precise codimension of $\overline{\mathcal{A}}$ in a broad setting, which allows us to describe the lineability of $\mathcal{C}(L, \mathbb{K}) \setminus \overline{\mathcal{A}}$ in detail. Our analysis yields both affirmative and negative results regarding the lineability of this set. Furthermore, we also study the set $(\mathcal{C}(\partial{D}, \mathbb{C}) \setminus \overline{\text{Pol}(\partial{D})}) \cup \{0\}$, where $\text{Pol}(\partial{D})$ is the set of all complex polynomials in one variable restricted to the boundary of the unit disk. Recent lineability properties are also taken into account.

Abstract:A locally compact stable plane of positive topological dimension will be called semiaffine if for every line $L$ and every point $p$ not in $L$ there is at most one line passing through $p$ and disjoint from $L$. We show that then the plane is either an affine or projective plane or a punctured projective plane (i.e., a projective plane with one point deleted). We also compare this with the situation in general linear spaces (without topology), where P. Dembowski showed that the analogue of our main result is true for finite spaces but fails in general.

Abstract:In this paper, we establish a new infinite-dimensional linking theorem without (PS)-type assumptions. The new theorem needs a weaker linking geometry and produces bounded (PS) sequences. The abstract result will be applied to the study of the existence of solutions of the strongly indefinite partial differential systems. One nontrivial solution is obtained. The second application, we will solve the eigenvalue problem of the systemAv=−f(x,v,w),Bw=βg(x,v,w),β>0,where A, B are self-adjoint operators on L2(Ω), Ω⊂RN is not necessarily bounded; f,g are Carathéodory functions on Ω×R2. We get infinitely many solutions. We deal with asymptotically linear cases for both systems.

Abstract:In this article, we investigate a density problem coming from the linearization of Calderón's problem with partial data. More precisely, we prove that the set of products of harmonic functions on a bounded smooth domain $\Omega$ vanishing on any fixed closed proper subset of the boundary are dense in $L^{1}(\Omega)$ in all dimensions $n \geq 2$. This is proved using ideas coming from the proof of Kashiwara's Watermelon theorem.

If $n\leq q$ then we prove the existence of an integer $1<d \mid n$ such that the set of one-dimensional $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$-subspaces generated by non-zero vectors of $U$ is the same as the set of one-dimensional $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$-subspaces generated by non-zero vectors of $\langle U\rangle_{\mathbb{F}_{q^d}}$. If we view $U$ as a point set of $\mathrm{AG}(r,q^n)$, it means that $U$ and $\langle U \rangle_{\mathbb{F}_{q^d}}$ determine the same set of directions. We prove a stronger statement when $n \mid m$. In terms of linear sets it means that an $\mathbb{F}_q$-linear set of $\mathrm{PG}(r-1,q^n)$ has maximum field of linearity $\mathbb{F}_q$ only if it has a point of weight one. We also present some consequences regarding the size of a linear set.
