Abstract:We give a simple criterion on the set of probability tangent measures $\mathrm{Tan}(\mu,x)$ of a positive Radon measure $\mu$, which yields lower bounds on the Hausdorff dimension of $\mu$. As an application, we give an elementary and purely algebraic proof of the sharp Hausdorff dimension lower bounds for first-order linear PDE-constrained measures; bounds for closed (measure) differential forms and normal currents are further discussed. A weak structure theorem in the spirit of [Ann. Math. 184(3) (2016), pp. 1017-1039] is also discussed for such measures.

Abstract:We establish the exact dimensional property of an ergodic hyperbolic measure for a C 2 non-invertible but non-degenerate endomorphism on a compact Riemannian manifold without boundary. Based on this, we give a new formula of Lyapunov dimension of ergodic measures and show it coincides with the dimension of hyperbolic ergodic measures in a setting of random endomorphisms. Our results extend several well known theorems of Barreira et al. (Ann Math 149:755–783, 1999) and Ledrappier and Young [Commun Math Phys 117(4):529–548, 1988] for diffeomorphisms to the case of endomorphisms.

Abstract:We consider dynamics of compositions of stationary random C-2 diffeomorphisms. We will prove that the sample measures of an ergodic hyperbolic invariant measure of the system are exact dimensional. This is an extension to random diffeomorphisms of the main result of Barreira, Pesin and Schmeling (1999), which proves the Eckmann-Ruelle dimension conjecture for a deterministic diffeomorphism.

Abstract:We establish the existence of Lebesgue-equivalent conservative and ergodic σ -finite invariant measures for a wide class of one-dimensional random maps consisting of piecewise convex maps. We also estimate the size of invariant measures around a small neighbourhood of a fixed point where the invariant density functions may diverge. Application covers random intermittent maps with critical points or flat points. We also illustrate that the size of invariant measures tends to infinite for random maps whose right branches exhibit a strongly contracting property on average, so that they have a strong recurrence to a fixed point.

Abstract:In this paper we prove that, for a C 2 (non-invertible but non-degenerate) map on a compact manifold, an invariant measure satisfies an equality relating entropy, folding entropy and negative Lyapunov exponents if and, under a condition on the Jacobian of the map, only if the measure has absolutely continuous conditional measures on the stable manifolds.

Abstract:In this article, we establish the variational principle of the affinity exponent of Borel Anosov representations. We also establish such a principle of the Rauzy gasket. In Li-Pan-Xu, they obtain a dimension formula of the stationary measures on $\mathbb{P}(\mathbb{R}^3)$. Combined with our result, it allows us to study the Hausdorff dimension of limit sets of Anosov representations in $\mathrm{SL}_3(\mathbb{R})$ and the Rauzy gasket. It yields the equality between the Hausdorff dimensions and the affinity exponents in both settings. In the appendix, we improve the numerical lower bound of the Hausdorff dimension of Rauzy gasket to $1.5$.

The Einstein Relation on Metric Measure Spaces

Abstract:This note is based on F. Burghart's master thesis at Stuttgart university from July 2018, supervised by Prof. Freiberg. We review the Einstein relation, which connects the Hausdorff, local walk and spectral dimensions on a space, in the abstract setting of a metric measure space equipped with a suitable operator. This requires some twists compared to the usual definitions from fractal geometry. The main result establishes the invariance of the three involved notions of fractal dimension under bi-Lipschitz continuous isomorphisms between mm-spaces and explains, more generally, how the transport of the analytic and stochastic structure behind the Einstein relation works. While any homeomorphism suffices for this transport of structure, non-Lipschitz maps distort the Hausdorff and the local walk dimension in different ways. To illustrate this, we take a look at Hölder regular transformations and how they influence the local walk dimension and describe the Einstein relation on graphs of fractional Brownian motions. We conclude by giving a short list of further questions that may help building a general theory of the Einstein relation.

Abstract:In this article we study the generalized Fourier dimension of the set of Liouville numbers $\mathbb{L}$. Being a set of zero Hausdorff dimension, the analysis has to be done at the level of functions with a slow decay at infinity acting as control for the Fourier transform of (Rajchman) measures supported on $\mathbb{L}$. We give an almost complete characterization of admissible decays for this set in terms of comparison to power-like functions. This work can be seen as the ``Fourier side'' of the analysis made by Olsen and Renfro regarding the generalized Hausdorff dimension using gauge functions. We also provide an approach to deal with the problem of classifying oscillating candidates for a Fourier decay for $\mathbb{L}$ relying on its translation invariance property.

Abstract:Given two metric spaces $\mathcal N \subseteq \mathcal M$ in inclusion and $0<p\leq 1$, we wish to determine the smallest constant $\mathfrak{t}_p (\mathcal N, \mathcal M)$ such that any Lipschitz map $f: \mathcal N \to Z$ into any $p$-Banach space $Z$ can be extended to a Lipschitz map $f' : \mathcal M \to Z$ satisfying $\operatorname{Lip} f' \leq \mathfrak{t}_p (\mathcal N, \mathcal M)\cdot \operatorname{Lip} f$. In this article, we prove that if $\mathcal N$ has finite Nagata dimension at most $d$ with constant $\gamma$, then $\mathfrak{t}_p (\mathcal N, \mathcal M) \lesssim_p \gamma \cdot (d+1)^{1/p -1} \cdot \log (d+2)$ for all $0<p\leq 1$. We show that examples of spaces with finite Nagata dimension include doubling spaces, as well as minor-excluded metric graphs. We also establish that the constant $\mathfrak{t}_p (\mathcal N, \mathcal M)$ generally increases as $p$ approaches zero.

Abstract:We investigate properties of measures in infinite dimensional spaces in terms of Poincaré inequalities. A Poincaré inequality states that the $L^2$ variance of an admissible function is controlled by the homogeneous $H^1$ norm. In the case of Loop spaces, it was observed by L. Gross that the homogeneous $H^1$ norm alone may not control the $L^2$ norm and a potential term involving the end value of the Brownian bridge is introduced. Aida, on the other hand, introduced a weight on the Dirichlet form. We show that Aida's modified Logarithmic Sobolev inequality implies weak Logarithmic Sobolev Inequalities and weak Poincaré inequalities with precise estimates on the order of convergence. The order of convergence in the weak Sobolev inequalities are related to weak $L^1$ estimates on the weight function. This and a relation between Logarithmic Sobolev inequalities and weak Poincaré inequalities lead to a Poincaré inequality on the loop space over certain manifolds.

Abstract:This paper is partly an exposition, and partly an extension of our work [1] to the multiparameter case. We consider certain classes of parametrized dynamically defined measures. These are push-forwards, under the natural projection, of ergodic measures for parametrized families of smooth iterated function systems (IFS) on the line. Under some assumptions, most crucially, a transversality condition, we obtain formulas for the Hausdorff dimension of the measure and absolute continuity for almost every parameter in the appropriate parameter region. The main novelty of [1] and the present paper is that not only the IFS, but also the ergodic measure in the symbolic space, whose push-forward we consider, depends on the parameter. This includes many interesting families of measures, in particular, invariant measures for IFS's with place-dependent probabilities and natural (equilibrium) measures for smooth IFS's. One of the goals of this paper is to present an exposition of [1] in a more reader-friendly way, emphasizing the ideas and proof strategies, but omitting the more technical parts. This exposition/survey is based in part on the series of lectures by Károly Simon at the Summer School "Dynamics and Fractals" in 2023 at the Banach Center, Warsaw. The main new feature, compared to [1], is that we consider multi-parameter families; in other words, the set of parameters is allowed to be multi-dimensional. This broadens the scope of applications. A new application considered here is to a class of Furstenberg-like measures.

Abstract:Let $L$ be the distinguished Laplacian on the Iwasawa $AN$ group associated with a semisimple Lie group $G$. Assume $F$ is a Borel function on $\mathbb{R}^+$. We give a condition on $F$ such that the kernels of the functions $F(L)$ are uniformly bounded. This condition involves the decay of $F$ only and not its derivatives. By a known correspondence, this implies pointwise estimates for a wide range of functions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator on symmetric spaces. In particular, when $G$ is of real rank one and $F(x)={\rm e}^{it\sqrt x}\psi(\sqrt x)$, our bounds are sharp.

Abstract:The celebrated Lott-Sturm-Villani theory of metric measure spaces furnishes synthetic notions of a Ricci curvature lower bound $K$ joint with an upper bound $N$ on the dimension. Their condition, called the Curvature-Dimension condition and denoted by $\mathrm{CD}(K,N)$, is formulated in terms of a modified displacement convexity of an entropy functional along $W_{2}$-Wasserstein geodesics. We show that the choice of the squared-distance function as transport cost does not influence the theory. By denoting with $\mathrm{CD}_{p}(K,N)$ the analogous condition but with the cost as the $p^{th}$ power of the distance, we show that $\mathrm{CD}_{p}(K,N)$ are all equivalent conditions for any $p>1$ -- at least in spaces whose geodesics do not branch. We show that the trait d'union between all the seemingly unrelated $\mathrm{CD}_{p}(K,N)$ conditions is the needle decomposition or localization technique associated to the $L^{1}$-optimal transport problem. We also establish the local-to-global property of $\mathrm{CD}_{p}(K,N)$ spaces.

Abstract:Let be a diffeomorphism on an -dimensional compact smooth Riemannian manifold M and a hyperbolic ergodic f-invariant probability measure. This paper obtains an upper bound for the stable (unstable) pointwise dimension of , which is given by the unique solution of an equation involving the sub-additive measure-theoretic pressure. If is a Sinai–Ruelle–Bowen (SRB) measure, then the Kaplan–Yorke conjecture is true under some additional conditions and the Lyapunov dimension of can be approximated gradually by the Hausdorff dimension of a sequence of hyperbolic sets . The limit behaviour of the Carathéodory singular dimension of on the unstable manifold with respect to the super-additive singular valued potential is also studied.

Abstract:Let A_+ be the ring of Laplace transforms of complex Borel measures on R with support in [0,+\infty) which do not have a singular nonatomic part. We compare the nu-metric d_{A_+} for stabilizable plants over A_+ given in the article by Ball and Sasane [2010], with yet another metric d_{H^\infty}|_{A_+}, namely the one induced by the metric d_{H^\infty} for the set of stabilizable plants over H^\infty given in teh article by Sasane in 2011. Both d_{A_+} and d_{H^\infty} coincide with the classical Vinnicombe metric defined for rational transfer functions, but we show here by means of an example that these two possible extensions of the classical nu-metric for plants over A_+ do not coincide on the set of stabilizable plants over A_+. We also prove that they nevertheless give rise to the same topology on stabilizable plants over A_+, which in turn coincides with the gap metric topology.

Abstract:In this paper, we answer a question of Nussbaum, Priyadarshi, and Lunel [Positive operators and Hausdorff dimension of invariant sets, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 364(2) (2012) 1029-1066.]. We also show that the Hausdorff dimension and box dimension of the attractor generated by a finite set of contractive infinitesimal similitudes are the same. Further, we extend many results of dimension theory to complete metric spaces. In the last part, we fill the gaps in the proofs of some articles, which are related to the dimension theory, and hint at some possible improvements in the recent papers.

Natural measures and statistical properties of non-statistical maps with multiple neutral fixed points

Abstract:In this article we show that a large class of infinite measure preserving dynamical systems that do not admit physical measures nevertheless exhibit strong statistical properties. In particular, we give sufficient conditions for existence of a distinguished natural measure $\nu$ such that the pushforwards of any absolutely continuous probability measure converge to $\nu$. Moreover, we obtain a distributional limit law for empirical measures. We also extend existing results on the characterisation of the set of almost sure limit points for empirical measures. Our results apply to various intermittent maps with multiple neutral fixed points preserving an infinite $\sigma$-finite absolutely continuous measure.

Abstract:Abstract We introduce a notion of a point-wise entropy of measures (i.e., local entropy) called neutralized local entropy, and compare it with the Brin-Katok local entropy. We show that the neutralized local entropy coincides with Brin-Katok local entropy almost everywhere. Neutralized local entropy is computed by measuring open sets with a relatively simple geometric description. Our proof uses a measure density lemma for Bowen balls, and a version of a Besicovitch covering lemma for Bowen balls. As an application, we prove a lower point-wise dimension bound for invariant measures, complementing the previously established bounds for upper point-wise dimension.

On one hand, a continuous $\times p,\times q$-invariant measure is the weak-$*$ limit of average of Dirac measures along an irrational orbit. On the other hand, a continuous $\times p,\times q$-invariant measure is a continuous function on $[0,1]$ satisfying certain function equations.
