Abstract:This paper studies nonsmooth variational problems on principal bundles for nonholonomic systems with collisions taking place in the boundary of the manifold configuration space of the nonholonopmic system. In particular, we first extended to a nonsmooth context appropriate for collisions the variational principle for nonholonomic implicit Lagrangian systems, to obtain implicit Lagrange--d'Alembert--Pontryagin equations for nonholonomic systems with collisions, and after introducing the notion of connection on a principal bundle we consider Lagrange--Poincaré--Pointryagin reduction by symmetries for systems with collisions.

What problem does this paper attempt to address?
The problem that this paper attempts to solve is the symmetry reduction theory of non - holonomic systems with collisions in the context of non - smooth mechanics. Specifically, the authors extended the non - smooth variational principle applicable to collision situations to obtain the implicit Lagrange - d'Alembert - Pontryagin equations for non - holonomic systems with collisions, and by introducing the concept of connection on the principal bundle, studied the Lagrange - Pontryagin - Pontryagin reduction theory for systems with collisions. This fills a gap in the reduction theory when dealing with mechanical systems with collisions. ### Background and Objectives of the Paper 1. **Background**: - **Non - holonomic systems**: These systems have velocity constraints that cannot be derived from position constraints. For example, a wheel rolls without slipping. - **Collisions**: The system collides on the boundary, and the changes in momentum and energy before and after the collision are constrained. - **Symmetry reduction**: Reduce the degrees of freedom of the system through symmetry, thereby simplifying the dynamic analysis. 2. **Objectives**: - **Extension of variational principle**: Extend the traditional Lagrange - d'Alembert principle to non - smooth situations, applicable to non - holonomic systems with collisions. - **Reduction theory**: Utilize the concept of connection on the principal bundle to develop the symmetry reduction theory for non - holonomic systems with collisions. - **Application examples**: Provide specific examples, such as a rolling disc hitting a circular surface and a pendulum hitting a cylindrical surface, to demonstrate the application of the theory. ### Main Contributions 1. **Non - smooth variational principle**: - Extended the non - smooth variational principle applicable to collision situations and obtained the implicit Lagrange - d'Alembert - Pontryagin equations. - These equations describe the dynamic behavior of non - holonomic systems with collisions. 2. **Symmetry reduction**: - Introduced the concept of connection on the principal bundle and studied the Lagrange - Pontryagin - Pontryagin reduction theory for systems with collisions. - Provided specific reduction methods, reduced the degrees of freedom of the system, and simplified the dynamic analysis. 3. **Application examples**: - Through specific examples (such as rolling discs and pendulums), demonstrated the practical application of the theory. - These examples not only verified the validity of the theory but also provided solutions to practical problems. ### Mathematical Formulas 1. **Implicit Lagrange - d'Alembert - Pontryagin equations**: \[ \begin{cases} \frac{\nabla_Q^* \pi_\alpha}{d\tau}-\alpha'_T\frac{\delta L}{\delta q}(\nu_\alpha)\in\Delta^\circ_Q(\alpha_Q),\\ E'(\nu_\alpha,\pi_\alpha) = 0,\\ \pi_\alpha=\frac{\delta L}{\delta v_q}(\nu_\alpha),\\ \nu_\alpha=\frac{\alpha'_Q}{\alpha'_T}\in\Delta_Q(\alpha_Q), \end{cases} \] where $\Delta^\circ_Q$ is the dual space of $\Delta_Q$, and $E'$ is the derivative of energy. 2. **Collision conditions**: \[ \begin{cases} \pi^+_\alpha-\pi^-_\alpha\in(T_{\alpha_Q(\tilde{\tau})}\partial Q\cap\Delta_Q(\alpha_Q(\tilde{\tau})))^\circ=(T_{\alpha_Q(\tilde{\tau})}\partial Q)^\circ+\Delta^\circ_Q(\alpha_Q(\tilde{\tau})),\\ E(\nu^+_\alpha,\pi^+_\alpha)=
