Abstract:Based on the combinatorial interpretation of the ordered Bell numbers, which count all the ordered partitions of the set $[n]=\{1,2,\dots,n\}$, we introduce the Fibonacci partition as a Fibonacci permutation of its blocks. Then we define the Fibonacci-Fubini numbers that count the total number of Fibonacci partitions of $[n]$. We study the classical properties of this sequence (generating function, explicit and Dobiński-like formula, etc.), we give combinatorial interpretation, and we extensively examine the Fibonacci-Fubini arithmetic triangle. We give some associate linear recurrence sequences, where in some sequences the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds appear as well.

Abstract:In this paper, harkening back to ideas of Hardy and Ramanujan, Mahler and de Bruijn, with the addition of more recent results on the Fibonacci Dirichlet series, we determine the asymptotic number of ways $p_F(n)$ to write an integer as the sum of non-distinct Fibonacci numbers. This appears to be the first such asymptotic result concerning non-distinct partitions over Fibonacci numbers. As well, under weak conditions, we prove analogous results for a general linear recurrences.

Fibonacci-like property of partition function

Abstract:The main result of the paper is the Fibonacci-like property of the partition function. The partition function $p(n)$ has a property: $p(n) \leq p(n-1) + p(n-2)$. Our result shows that if we impose certain restrictions on the partition, then the inequality becomes an equality. Furthermore, we extend this result to cases with a greater number of summands.

Abstract:In this paper, we study partitions of positive integers into distinct quasifibonacci numbers. A digraph and poset structure is constructed on the set of such partitions. Furthermore, we discuss the symmetric and recursive relations between these posets. Finally, we prove a strong generalization of Robbins' result on the coefficients of a quasifibonacci power series.

Abstract:For every nonnegative integer $n$, let $r_F(n)$ be the number of ways to write $n$ as a sum of Fibonacci numbers, where the order of the summands does not matter. Moreover, for all positive integers $p$ and $N$, let \begin{equation*} S_{F}^{(p)}(N) := \sum_{n = 0}^{N - 1} \big(r_F(n)\big)^p . \end{equation*} Chow, Jones, and Slattery determined the order of growth of $S_{F}^{(p)}(N)$ for $p \in \{1,2\}$. We prove that, for all positive integers $p$, there exists a real number $\lambda_p > 1$ such that \begin{equation*} S^{(p)}_F(N) \asymp_p N^{(\log \lambda_p) /\!\log \varphi} \end{equation*} as $N \to +\infty$. Furthermore, we show that egin{equation*} \lim_{p \to +\infty} \lambda_p^{1/p} = \varphi^{1/2} , \end{equation*} where $\varphi := (1 + \sqrt{5})/2$ is the golden ratio. Our proofs employ automata theory and a result on the generalized spectral radius due to Blondel and Nesterov.

Multivariate Fibonacci-like Polynomials and their Applications

Abstract:The Fibonacci polynomials are defined recursively as $f_{n}(x)=xf_{n-1}(x)+f_{n-2}(x)$, where $f_0(x) = 0$ and $f_1(x)= 1$. We generalize these polynomials to an arbitrary number of variables with the $r$-Fibonacci polynomial. We extend several well-known results such as the explicit Binet formula and a Cassini-like identity, and use these to prove that the $r$-Fibonacci polynomials are irreducible over $\mathbb{C}$ for $n \geq r \geq 3$. Additionally, we derive an explicit sum formula and a generalized generating function. Using these results, we establish connections to ordinary Bell polynomials, exponential Bell polynomials, Fubini numbers, and integer and set partitions.

Abstract:We describe a new and robust method to prove rigidity results in complex dynamics. The new ingredient is the geometry of the critical puzzle pieces: under control of geometry and “complex bounds”, two generalized polynomial-like maps which admit a topological conjugacy, quasiconformal outside the filled-in Julia set, are indeed quasiconformally conjugate. The proof uses a new abstract removability-type result for quasiconformal maps, following ideas of Heinonen and Koskela and of Kallunki and Koskela, optimized for applications in complex dynamics. We prove, as the first application of this new method, that, for even criticalities distinct from two, the period two cycle of the Fibonacci renormalization operator is hyperbolic with 1 1 -dimensional unstable manifold.

Abstract:The interpretation of static and dynamic scattering experiments on droplet microemulsions is discussed. We review the arguments given in our previous papers that call into question the methods of current determination of basic phenomenological characteristics of the droplet surfactant monolayer, such as the bending and Gaussian rigidities. We give also responses to our criticism by T. Hellweg, B. Farago, M. Gradzielski, D. Langevin, and S. Safran (Colloids and Surfaces A 221 (2003) 257 and some other works by these authors). They agree with some of our objections; the rest of their response is shown to be flawed. We also show that in many points their way of discussion is improper and misleading. It is concluded that the values of the parameters of microemulsion droplets, as extracted in their experiments, are not reliable and should be reexamined.

Abstract:We use the inversion of coefficient arrays to define dual polynomials to the Fibonacci and Catalan-Fibonacci polynomials, and we explore the properties of these new polynomials sequences. Many of the arrays involved are Riordan arrays. Direct links to the counting of Motzkin paths by different statistics emerge.

Abstract:There is a well-known bijection between finite binary sequences and integer partitions. Sequences of length r correspond to partitions of perimeter r+1. Motivated by work on rational numbers in the Calkin-Wilf tree, we classify partitions whose corresponding binary sequence is a palindrome. We give a generating function that counts these partitions, and describe how to efficiently generate all of them. Atypically for partitions generating functions, we find an unusual significance to prime degrees. Specifically, we prove there are nontrivial palindrome partitions of n except when n=3 or n+1 is prime. We find an interesting new "branching diagram" for partitions, similar to Young's lattice, with an action of the Klein four group corresponding to natural operations on the binary sequences.

Abstract:Divisibility sequences are defined by the property that their elements divide each other whenever their indices do. The divisibility sequences that also satisfy a linear recurrence, like the Fibonacci numbers, are generated by polynomials that divide their compositions with every positive integer power. We completely characterize such polynomials in terms of their factorizations into cyclotomic polynomials using labeled Hasse diagrams, and construct new integer divisibility sequences based on them. We also show that, unlike the Fibonacci numbers, these non-classical sequences do not have the property of strong divisibility.

Abstract:Cylindric plane partitions may be thought of as a natural generalization of reverse plane partitions. A generating series for the enumeration of cylindric plane partitions was recently given by Borodin. As in the reverse plane partition case, the right hand side of this identity admits a simple factorization form in terms of the "hook lengths" of the individual boxes in the underlying shape. The main result of this paper is a new bijective proof of Borodin's identity which makes use of Fomin's growth diagram framework for generalized RSK correspondences.

Abstract:Recently, Blecher and Knopfmacher explored the notion of fixed points in integer partitions and hypothesized on the relative number of partitions with and without a fixed point. We resolve their open question by working fixed points into a growing number of interconnected partition statistics involving Frobenius symbols, Dyson's crank, and the mex (minimal excluded part). Also, we generalize the definition of fixed points and connect that expanded notion to the $\text{mex}_j$ defined by Hopkins, Sellers, and Stanton as well as the $j$-Durfee rectangle defined by Hopkins, Sellers, and Yee.

Abstract:We study Fibonacci compositions, which are compositions of natural numbers that only use Fibonacci numbers, in two different contexts. We first prove inequalities comparing the number of Fibonacci compositions to regular compositions where summands have a maximum possible value. Then, we consider asymptotic properties of Fibonacci compositions, comparing them to compositions whose terms come from positive linear recurrence sequences. Finally, we consider analogues of these results where we do not allow the use of a certain number of consecutive Fibonacci numbers starting from $F_2 = 1$.
The First Cobalt Single-Molecule Magnet

Abstract:The first cobalt molecule to function as a single-molecule magnet, [Co4(hmp)4(MeOH)4Cl4], where hmp- is the anion of hydroxymethylpyridine, is reported. The core of the molecule consists of four Co(II) cations and four hmp- oxygen atoms ions at the corners of a cube. Variable-field and variable-temperature magnetization data have been analyzed to establish that the molecule has a S=6 ground state with considerable negative magnetoanisotropy. Single-ion zero-field interactions (DSz2) at each cobalt ion are the origin of the negative magnetoanisotropy. A single-crystal of the compound was studied by means of a micro-SQUID magnetometer in the range of 0.040-1.0K. Hysteresis was found in the magnetization versus magnetic field response of this single crystal. It is concluded that this is the first cobalt molecule to function as a single-molecule magnet.

The generalized Frobenius problem via restricted partition functions

Abstract:Given relatively prime positive integers, $a_1,\ldots,a_n$, the Frobenius number is the largest integer with no representations of the form $a_1x_1+\cdots+a_nx_n$ with nonnegative integers $x_i$. This classical value has recently been generalized: given a nonnegative integer $k$, what is the largest integer with at most $k$ such representations? Other classical values can be generalized too: for example, how many nonnegative integers are representable in at most $k$ ways? For sufficiently large $k$, we give formulas for these values by understanding the level sets of the restricted partition function (the function $f(t)$ giving the number of representations of $t$). Furthermore, we give the full asymptotics of all of these values, as well as reprove formulas for some special cases (such as the $n=2$ case and a certain extremal family from the literature). Finally, we obtain the first two leading terms of the restricted partition function as a so-called quasi-polynomial.

Abstract:It is known that the greatest common divisor of two Fibonacci numbers is again a Fibonacci number. It is called the strong divisibility property. However, this property does not hold for every second order sequence. In this paper we study the generalized Fibonacci polynomials and classify them in two types depending on their Binet formula. We give a complete characterization for those polynomials that satisfy the strong divisibility property. We also giveformulas to calculate the $\gcd$ of those polynomials that do not satisfy the strong divisibility property. Note. This paper is now published in INTEGERS.

Abstract:Using a specific form of the triple product identity, polygonal number identities are stated. Further number identities are examined that can be considered identities related to modular sets of numbers. The identities can be used to give results on integer partitions with parts from numbers in modular arithmetic progression. This includes recursive formulas for the number of partitions using these modular parts. The triple product identity can derive further recursive formulas. Additionally, there is a recursive formula for the related sum of divisors function. The specific triple product identity provides a framework to examine all the identities and can be used to define related theta functions.
