Abstract:The main result of the paper is the Fibonacci-like property of the partition function. The partition function $p(n)$ has a property: $p(n) \leq p(n-1) + p(n-2)$. Our result shows that if we impose certain restrictions on the partition, then the inequality becomes an equality. Furthermore, we extend this result to cases with a greater number of summands.

Abstract:For every nonnegative integer $n$, let $r_F(n)$ be the number of ways to write $n$ as a sum of Fibonacci numbers, where the order of the summands does not matter. Moreover, for all positive integers $p$ and $N$, let \begin{equation*} S_{F}^{(p)}(N) := \sum_{n = 0}^{N - 1} \big(r_F(n)\big)^p . \end{equation*} Chow, Jones, and Slattery determined the order of growth of $S_{F}^{(p)}(N)$ for $p \in \{1,2\}$. We prove that, for all positive integers $p$, there exists a real number $\lambda_p > 1$ such that \begin{equation*} S^{(p)}_F(N) \asymp_p N^{(\log \lambda_p) /\!\log \varphi} \end{equation*} as $N \to +\infty$. Furthermore, we show that egin{equation*} \lim_{p \to +\infty} \lambda_p^{1/p} = \varphi^{1/2} , \end{equation*} where $\varphi := (1 + \sqrt{5})/2$ is the golden ratio. Our proofs employ automata theory and a result on the generalized spectral radius due to Blondel and Nesterov.

Asymptotics for partitions over the Fibonacci numbers and related sequences

Abstract:In this paper, harkening back to ideas of Hardy and Ramanujan, Mahler and de Bruijn, with the addition of more recent results on the Fibonacci Dirichlet series, we determine the asymptotic number of ways $p_F(n)$ to write an integer as the sum of non-distinct Fibonacci numbers. This appears to be the first such asymptotic result concerning non-distinct partitions over Fibonacci numbers. As well, under weak conditions, we prove analogous results for a general linear recurrences.

Abstract:Abstract Let p ( n ) denote the partition function. In this paper, we will prove that for $n\ges 222$ , $$\left| {\matrix{ {p(n)} & {p(n + 1)} & {p(n + 2)} \cr {p(n-1)} & {p(n)} & {p(n + 1)} \cr {p(n-2)} & {p(n-1)} & {p(n)} \cr } } \right| > 0.{\rm }$$ As a corollary, we deduce that p ( n ) satisfies the double Turán inequalities, that is, for $n\ges 222$ , $$(p(n)^2-p(n-1)p(n+1))^2-(p(n-1)^2-p(n-2)p(n))(p(n+1)^2-p(n)p(n+2))>0.$$
Partition theorems and the Chinese remainder theorem

Abstract:The famous partition theorem of Euler states that partitions of $n$ into distinct parts are equinumerous with partitions of $n$ into odd parts. Another famous partition theorem due to MacMahon states that the number of partitions of $n$ with all parts repeated at least once equals the number of partitions of $n$ where all parts must be even or congruent to $3 \pmod 6$. These partition theorems were further extended by Glaisher, Andrews, Subbarao, Nyirenda and Mugwangwavari. In this paper, we utilize the Chinese remainder theorem to prove a comprehensive partition theorem that encompasses all existing partition theorems. We also give a natural generalization of Euler's theorem based on a special complete residue system. Furthermore, we establish interesting congruence connections between the partition function $p(n)$ and related partition functions.

Abstract:In this paper, we use the Lambert series generating function for Euler's totient function to introduce a new identity for the number of $1$'s in the partitions of $n$. A new expansion for Euler's partition function $p(n)$ is derived in this context. These surprising new results connect the famous classical totient function from multiplicative number theory to the additive theory of partitions.

Abstract:The primary focus of this paper is overpartitions, a type of partition that plays a significant role in $q$-series theory. In 2006, Treneer discovered an explicit infinite family of congruences of overpartitions modulo $5$. In our research, we have identified explicit infinite families of congruences of overpartitions modulo $3,7,11$. This work reveals the connection between overpartitions and half-integral modular forms.

Abstract:The partition function $p(n)$ and many of its related restricted partition functions have recently been shown independently to satisfy log-concavity: $p(n)^2 \geq p(n-1)p(n+1)$ for $n\geq 26$, and satisfy the inequality: $p(n)p(m) \geq p(n+m)$ for $n,m\geq 2$ with only finitely many instances of equality or failure. This paper proves that this is no coincidence, that any log-concave sequence $\{x_n\}$ satisfying a particular initial condition likewise satisfies the inequality $x_nx_m \geq x_{n+m}$. This paper further determines that these conditions are sufficient but not necessary and considers various examples to illuminate the situation.

Abstract:We establish a recursive relation for the bipartition number $p_2(n)$ which might be regarded as an analogue of Euler's recursive relation for the partition number $p(n)$. Two proofs of the main result are proved in this article. The first one is using the generating function, and the second one is using combinatoric objects (called ``symbols'') created by Lusztig for studying representation theory of finite classical groups.

Abstract:Let {F(n)} be the Fibonacci sequence defined by F0 = 0, F1 = 1, F(n) + 1 = F(n) + F(n-1) (n greater-than-or-equal-to 1). It is well known that F(p-)(5/p) = 0 (mod p) for any odd prime p, where (-) denotes the Legendre symbol. In 1960 D.D. Wall [13] asked whether p2/F(p-)(5/p) is always impossible; up to now this is still open. In this paper the sum [GRAPHICS] is expressed in terms of Fibonacci numbers. As applications we obtain a new formula for the Fibonacci quotient F(p-)(5/p)/p and a criterion for the relation p/F(p-1)/4 (if p = 1 (mod 4)), where p not-equal 5 is an odd prime. We also prove that the affirmative answer to Wall's question implies the first case of FLT (Fermat's last theorem); from this it follows that the first case of FLT holds for those exponents which are (odd) Fibonacci primes or Lucas primes.

Abstract:Zeckendorf proved that every positive integer has a unique partition as a sum of non-consecutive Fibonacci numbers. We study the difference between the number of summands in the partition of two consecutive integers. In particular, let $L(n)$ be the number of summands in the partition of $n$. We characterize all positive integers such that $L(n) > L(n+1)$, $L(n) < L(n+1)$, and $L(n) = L(n+1)$. Furthermore, we call $n+1$ a peak of $L$ if $L(n) < L(n+1) > L(n+2)$ and a divot of $L$ if $L(n) > L(n+1) < L(n+2)$. We characterize all such peaks and divots of $L$.

Abstract:The following magic trick is at the center of this paper. While the audience writes the first ten terms of a Fibonacci-like sequence (the sequence following the same recursion as the Fibonacci sequence), the magician calculates the sum of these ten terms very fast by multiplying the 7th term by 11. This trick is based on the divisibility properties of partial sums of Fibonacci-like sequences. We find the maximum Fibonacci number that divides the sum of the Fibonacci numbers 1 through $n$. We discuss the generalization of the trick for other second-order recurrences. We show that a similar trick exists for Pell-like sequences and does not exist for Jacobhstal-like sequences.

Abstract:Let $(F_n)_{n\ge 1}$ be the Fibonacci sequence. Define $P(F_n): = (\sum_{i=1}^n F_i)_{n\ge 1}$; that is, the function $P$ gives the sequence of partial sums of $(F_n)$. In this paper, we first give an identity involving $P^k(F_n)$, which is the resulting sequence from applying $P$ to $(F_n)$ $k$ times. Second, we provide a combinatorial interpretation of the numbers in $P^k(F_n)$.

Abstract:Based on the combinatorial interpretation of the ordered Bell numbers, which count all the ordered partitions of the set $[n]=\{1,2,\dots,n\}$, we introduce the Fibonacci partition as a Fibonacci permutation of its blocks. Then we define the Fibonacci-Fubini numbers that count the total number of Fibonacci partitions of $[n]$. We study the classical properties of this sequence (generating function, explicit and Dobiński-like formula, etc.), we give combinatorial interpretation, and we extensively examine the Fibonacci-Fubini arithmetic triangle. We give some associate linear recurrence sequences, where in some sequences the Stirling numbers of the first and second kinds appear as well.

Curious congruences for Fibonacci numbers

Abstract:In this paper we establish some sophisticated congruences involving central binomial coefficients and Fibonacci numbers. For example, we show that if $p\not=2,5$ is a prime then $$\sum_{k=0}^{p-1}F_{2k}\binom{2k}{k}=(-1)^{[p/5]}(1-(p/5)) (mod p^2)$$ and $$\sum_{k=0}^{p-1}F_{2k+1}\binom{2k}k=(-1)^{[p/5]}(p/5) (mod p^2).$$ We also obtain similar results for some other second-order recurrences and raise several conjectures.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider a certain class of inequalities for the partition function of the following form: ∏ i = 1 T p ( n + s i ) ≥ ∏ i = 1 T p ( n + r i ) , which we call multiplicative inequalities. Given a multiplicative inequality with the condition that ∑ i = 1 T s i m ≠ ∑ i = 1 T r i m for at least one m ≥ 1 , we shall construct a unified framework so as to decide whether such a inequality holds or not. As a consequence, we will see that study of such inequalities has manifold applications. For example, one can retrieve log-concavity property, strong log-concavity, and the multiplicative inequality for p ( n ) considered by Bessenrodt and Ono, to name a few. Furthermore, we obtain an asymptotic expansion for the finite difference of the logarithm of p ( n ) , denoted by ( − 1 ) r − 1 Δ r log ⁡ p ( n ) , which generalizes a result by Chen, Wang, and Xie.

Abstract:Extending the partition function multiplicatively to a function on partitions, we show that it has a unique maximum at an explicitly given partition for any $n\neq 7$. The basis for this is an inequality for the partition function which seems not to have been noticed before.

Abstract:In 2012, Andrews and Merca established a truncated form of Euler's pentagonal number theory. In this note, using the Rogers–Fine identity, we present a partition theoretic interpretation of truncated sums on the partition function which solve a problem given by Merca. Furthermore, we prove an inequality on ordinary partition which implies the positive result on truncated sums of partition function due to Andrews and Merca.

Abstract:A sequence of $\{a_n\}_{n\ge 0}$ satisfies the Briggs inequality if \begin{align*} a_n^2(a_n^2-a_{n-1}a_{n+1})>a_{n-1}^2(a_{n+1}^2-a_na_{n+2}) \end{align*} holds for any $n\ge 1$. In this paper we show that both the partition function $\{p(n+N_0)\}_{n\geq 0}$ and the overpartition function $\{\overline{p}(n+\overline{N}_0)\}_{n\ge 0}$ satisfy the Briggs inequality for some $N_0$ and $\overline{N}_{0}$. Based on Chern's formula for $\eta$-quotients, we further prove that the $k$-regular partition function $\{p_k(n+N_{k})\}_{n\geq 0}$ and the $k$-regular overpartition function $\{\overline{p}_k(n+\overline{N}_k)\}_{n\ge 0}$ also satisfy the Briggs inequality for $2\le k\le 9$ and some $N_k,\overline{N}_{k}$.
