Abstract:We investigate the existence of globally generated vector bundles of rank 2 with $c_1\leq 3$ on a smooth quadric threefold and determine their Chern classes. As an automatic consequence, every rank 2 globally generated vector bundle on $Q$ with $c_1=3$ is an odd instanton up to twist.

Abstract:In this paper, we show that if the tangent bundle of a smooth projective variety is strictly nef, then it is isomorphic to a projective space; if a projective variety X^n (n>4) has strictly nef Λ^2 TX, then it is isomorphic to ℙ^n or quadric ℚ^n. We also prove that on elliptic curves, strictly nef vector bundles are ample, whereas there exist Hermitian flat and strictly nef vector bundles on any smooth curve with genus g≥ 2.

Abstract:This paper is the second in a series of three devoted to the smooth classification of simply connected elliptic surfaces. In this paper, we study the case where one of the multiple fibers has even multiplicity, and describe the moduli space of stable rank two vector bundles with the appropriate first Chern class needed to calculate Donaldson polynomials. The analysis is in many ways parallel to the analysis in the case of vector bundles of trivial determinant, but the asymmetry between the multiplicities also appears in the moduli space. In this way, the first coefficient of an appropriate Donaldson polynomial determines one of the multiplicities.

Abstract:This article is concerned with Chern class and Chern number inequalities on polarized manifolds and nef vector bundles. For a polarized pair $(M,L)$ with $L$ very ample, our 1st main result is a family of sharp Chern class inequalities. Among them the 1st one is a variant of a classical result and the equality case of the 2nd one is a characterization of hypersurfaces. The 2nd main result is a Chern number inequality on it, which includes a reverse Miyaoka–Yau-type inequality. The 3rd main result is that the Chern numbers of a nef vector bundle over a compact Kähler manifold are bounded below by the Euler number. As an application, we classify compact Kähler manifolds with nonnegative bisectional curvature whose Chern numbers are all positive. A conjecture related to the Euler number of compact Kähler manifolds with nonpositive bisectional curvature is proposed, which can be regarded as a complex analogue to the Hopf conjecture.

Abstract:Let $C$ be a curve and $V \to C$ an orthogonal vector bundle of rank $r$. For $r \le 6$, the structure of $V$ can be described using tensor, symmetric and exterior products of bundles of lower rank, essentially due to the existence of exceptional isomorphisms between $\mathrm{Spin} (r , \mathbb{C})$ and other groups for these $r$. We analyze these structures in detail, and in particular use them to describe moduli spaces of orthogonal bundles. Furthermore, the locus of isotropic vectors in $V$ defines a quadric subfibration $Q_V \subset \mathbb{P} V$. Using familiar results on quadrics of low dimension, we exhibit isomorphisms between isotropic Quot schemes of $V$ and certain ordinary Quot schemes of line subbundles. In particular, for $r \le 6$ this gives a method for enumerating the isotropic subbundles of maximal degree of a general $V$, when there are finitely many.

In \cite{DF2} the $G$--equivariant algebraic vector bundles on $G$--invariant affine open subsets of ${\mathbb C}{\mathbb P}^1$ were classified. Abstract:Given integers $a_1,a_2,a_3$, there is a complex rank $3$ topological bundle on $\mathbb CP^5$ with $i$-th Chern class equal to $a_i$ if and only if $a_1,a_2,a_3$ satisfy the Schwarzenberger condition. Provided that the Schwarzenberger condition is satisfied, we prove that the number of isomorphism classes of rank $3$ bundles $V$ on $\mathbb C P^5$ with $c_i(V)=a_i$ is equal to $3$ if $a_1$ and $a_2$ are both divisible by $3$ and equal to $1$ otherwise. This shows that Chern classes are incomplete invariants of topological rank $3$ bundles on $\mathbb CP^5$. To address this problem, we produce a universal class in the $tmf$-cohomology of a Thom spectrum related to $BU(3)$, where $tmf$ denotes topological modular forms localized at $3$. From this class and orientation data, we construct a $\mathbb Z/3$-valued invariant of the bundles of interest and prove that our invariant separates distinct bundles with the same Chern classes.

Abstract:We investigate the jumping conics of stable vector bundles $E$ of rank 2 on a smooth quadric surface $Q$ with the first Chern class $c_1=\Oo_Q(-1,-1)$ with respect to the ample line bundle $\Oo_Q(1,1)$. We show that the set of jumping conics of $E$ is a hypersurface of degree $c_2(E)-1$ in $\PP_3^*$. Using these hypersurfaces, we describe moduli spaces of stable vector bundles of rank 2 on $Q$ in the cases of lower $c_2(E)$.

Abstract:We study the structure of the Albanese map for Kähler manifolds with nef anticanonical bundle. First, we give a result for fourfolds whose Albanse torus is an elliptic curve. In the general case of any dimension, we look at two cases: The general fiber of the Albanese map is a Calabi-Yau manifold or a projective space. In the first case, we show that the manifold itself must be Calabi-Yau. In the second case, we give a more topological proof of a result by Cao and Höring which says that the manifold must be a projectivization of a numerically flat vector bundle.
