Abstract:We prove a new case of Rubin's saturation conjecture about the realization of $G$-transfer systems, for $G$ a finite cyclic group, by linear isometries $N_\infty$-operads, namely the case of cyclic groups of order $p^nq^m$ for $p,q$ distinct primes and $n,m\in \mathbb{N}$.

Abstract:We provide a general recursive method for constructing transfer systems on finite lattices. Using this we calculate the number of homotopically distinct $N_\infty$ operads for dihedral groups $D_{p^n}$, $p > 2$ prime, and cyclic groups $C_{qp^n}$, $p \neq q$ prime. We then further display some of the beautiful combinatorics obtained by restricting to certain homotopically meaningful $N_\infty$ operads for these groups.

Abstract:Bi-incomplete Tambara functors over a group $G$ can be understood in terms of compatible pairs of $G$-transfer systems. In the case of $G = C_{p^n}$ , Hill, Meng and Li gave a necessary and sufficient condition for compatibility and computed the exact number of compatible pairs. In this article, we study compatible pairs of $G$-transfer systems for the case $G = C_{p^rq^s}$ and identify conditions when such transfer systems are uniquely compatible in the sense that they only form trivially compatible pairs. This gives us new insight into collections of norm maps that are relevant in equivariant homotopy theory.

Abstract:We study the indexing systems that correspond to equivariant Steiner and linear isometries operads. When $G$ is a finite abelian group, we prove that a $G$-indexing system is realized by a Steiner operad if and only if it is generated by cyclic $G$-orbits. When $G$ is a finite cyclic group, whose order is either a prime power or a product of two distinct primes greater than $3$, we prove that a $G$-indexing system is realized by a linear isometries operad if and only if it satisfies Blumberg and Hill's horn-filling condition. We also repackage the data in an indexing system as a certain kind of partial order. We call these posets transfer systems, and we develop basic tools for computing with them.

Abstract:$N_\infty$-operads are an equivariant generalization of $E_\infty$-operads introduced by Blumberg and Hill to study structural problems in equivariant stable homotopy theory. In the original paper introducing these objects, Blumberg and Hill raised the question of classifying $N_\infty$-operads that are weakly equivalent to a particularly nice kind of $N_\infty$-operad called a linear isometries operad. For some groups there is a known classification of linear isometries operads up to weak equivalence in terms of certain combinatorially defined objects called saturated transfer systems, but this classification is known to be invalid in general. Various authors have made incremental progress on understanding the domain of validity for this classification, but even among cyclic groups the validity is unknown in general. We determine essentially all the finite Abelian groups for which the classification is valid using techniques from algebra and extremal combinatorics.

Abstract:We realize Frobenius conjugacy classes in Galois groups of certain $q$-polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_q(t)$ using specific degree 1 ideals. We combine this with methods from elementary linear algebra and group theory to realize transvections in some linear Galois groups. This enables the Galois group to be identified as a known classical group in several reasonably general cases.

Abstract:We study a mod $p^c$ analog of the notion of transfer for automorphic forms. Instead of existence of eigenforms, such transfers yield congruences between eigenforms but, like transfers, we show that they can be established by a comparison of trace formulas. This rests on the properties of mod $p^c$ reduced multiplicities which count congruences between eigenforms. As an application we construct finite slope $p$-adic {\it continuous} families of Siegel eigenforms using a comparison of trace formulas.

Abstract:We introduce the new notion of quotient-saturation as a measure of the immensity of the quotient structure of a group. We present a sufficient condition for a finitely presented group to be quotient-saturated, and use it to deduce that non-elementary finitely presented subgroups of a hyperbolic group (in particular, non-elementary hyperbolic groups themselves) are quotient-saturated. Finally, we elaborate on the previous results to extend the scope of this property to finitely presented acylindrically hyperbolic groups.

Abstract:Let G be the group of rational points of a quasi-split p-adic special orthogonal, symplectic or unitary group for some odd prime number p. FollowingArthur and Mok, there are a positive integer N, a p-adic field E and a local functorial transfer from isomorphism classes of irreducible smooth complex representations of G to those of GL(N,E). By fixing a prime number l different from p and an isomorphism between the field of complex numbers and an algebraic closure of the field of l-adic numbers, we obtain a transfer map between representations with l-adic coefficients. Now consider a cuspidal irreducible l-adic representation pi of G: we can define its reduction mod l, which is a semi-simple smooth representation of G of finite length, with coefficients in a field of characteristic l. Let pi' be a cuspidal irreducible l-adic representation of G whose reduction mod l is isomorphic to that of pi. We prove that the transfers of pi and pi' have reductions mod l which may not be isomorphic, but which have isomorphic supercuspidal supports. When G is not the split special orthogonal group SO(2), we further prove that the reductions mod l of the transfers of pi and pi' share a unique common generic component.

On the slice spectral sequence for quotients of norms of Real bordism

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate equivariant quotients of the Real bordism spectrum's multiplicative norm $MU^{((C_{2^n}))}$ by permutation summands. These quotients are of interest because of their close relationship with higher real $K$-theories. We introduce new techniques for computing the equivariant homotopy groups of such quotients. As a new example, we examine the theories $BP^{((C_{2^n}))}\langle m,m\rangle$. These spectra serve as natural equivariant generalizations of connective integral Morava $K$-theories. We provide a complete computation of the $a_{\sigma}$-localized slice spectral sequence of $i^*_{C_{2^{n-1}}}BP^{((C_{2^n}))}\langle m,m\rangle$, where $\sigma$ is the real sign representation of $C_{2^{n-1}}$. To achieve this computation, we establish a correspondence between this localized slice spectral sequence and the $H\mathbb{F}_2$-based Adams spectral sequence in the category of $H\mathbb{F}_2 \wedge H\mathbb{F}_2$-modules. Furthermore, we provide a full computation of the $a_{\lambda}$-localized slice spectral sequence of the height-4 theory $BP^{((C_{4}))}\langle 2,2\rangle$. The $C_4$-slice spectral sequence can be entirely recovered from this computation.

On operadic open-closed maps in characteristic $p$

Abstract:Consider a closed monotone symplectic manifold $(M,\omega)$. \cite{Gan2} constructed a cyclic open-closed map, which goes from the cyclic homology of the Fukaya category of $M$ to the $S^1$-equivariant quantum cohomology of $M$. In this paper, we show that with mod $p$ coefficients, Ganatra's cyclic open-closed map is compatible with a certain $\mathbb{Z}/p$-equivariant open-closed map under the natural $\mathbb{Z}/p$-Gysin type comparison map for Hochschild homology. Along with the proof, this paper gives a new homotopy theoretic framework for studying open-closed maps in symplectic topology. These will be used in an upcoming work \cite{Che} to study mod $p$ equivariant enumerative invariants such as the Quantum Steenrod operations. The main insights of this paper are: 1) a $\mathbb{Z}/p$-Gysin comparison result for ($\mathcal{A}_{\infty}$-) cyclic objects, 2) a new construction of the open-closed map using operadic Floer theory of \cite{AGV}, which gives rise to a new interpretation of its `$S^1$-equivariant' property, and 3) comparison of the new construction with its classical counterpart.

Abstract:In this paper, which is a continuation of earlier work by the first author and Gunnar Carlsson, one of the first results we establish is the additivity of the motivic Becker-Gottlieb transfer, as well as their étale realizations. This extends the additivity results the authors already established for the corresponding traces. We then apply this to derive several important consequences: for example, in addition to obtaining the analogues of various double coset formulae known in the classical setting of algebraic topology, we also obtain applications to Brauer groups of homogeneous spaces associated to reductive groups over separably closed fields. We also consider the relationship between the transfer on schemes provided with a compatible action by a $1$-parameter subgroup and the transfer associated to the fixed point scheme of the $1$-parameter subgroup.

Motivic realization of rigid G-local systems on curves and tamely ramified geometric Langlands

Abstract:For a reductive group $G$, we prove that complex irreducible rigid $G$-local systems with quasi-unipotent monodromies and finite order abelianization on a smooth curve are motivic, generalizing a theorem of Katz for $GL_n$. We do so by showing that the Hecke eigensheaf corresponding to such a local system is itself motivic. Unlike other works in the subject, we work entirely over the complex numbers. In the setting of de Rham geometric Langlands, we prove the existence of Hecke eigensheaves associated to any irreducible $G$-local system with regular singularities. We also provide a spectral decomposition of a naturally defined automorphic category over the stack of regular singular local systems with prescribed eigenvalues of the local monodromies at infinity. Finally, we establish a relationship between rigidity for complex local systems and automorphic rigidity, answering a conjecture of Yun in the tame complex setting.

Abstract:Bonini, Borello and Byrne started the study of saturating linear sets in Desarguesian projective spaces, in connection with the covering problem in the rank metric. In this paper we study \emph{$1$-saturating} linear sets in PG$(2,q^4)$, that is $\mathbb{F}_q$-linear sets in PG$(2,q^4)$ with the property that their secant lines cover the entire plane. By making use of a characterization of generalized Gabidulin codes, we prove that the rank of such a linear set is at least $5$. This answers to a recent question posed by Bartoli, Borello and Marino.

Abstract:Let $p\geq 7$ be a prime and $n>1$ be a natural number. We show that there exist infinitely many Galois representations $\varrho:Gal(\bar{\mathbb{Q}}/\mathbb{Q})\rightarrow GL_{n}(\mathbb{Z}_p)$ which are unramified outside $\{p, \infty\}$ with large image. More precisely, the Galois representations constructed have image containing the kernel of the mod-$p^t$ reduction map $SL_n(\mathbb{Z}_p)\rightarrow SL_n(\mathbb{Z}/p^t\mathbb{Z})$, where $t:=8(n^2-n)\left(3+\lfloor log_p(2^n+1)\rfloor\right)+8$. The results are proven via a purely Galois theoretic lifting construction. When $p\equiv 1\mod{4}$, our results are conditional since in this case, we assume a very weak version of Vandiver's conjecture.

Existence of $p$-adic representations and flatness of even deformation rings in balanced global settings of rank one

Abstract:The main goal of this paper is to prove existence of $p$-adic lifts of even Galois representations in balanced global settings with dual Selmer groups of rank one, and to construct examples of even residual representations in characteristic $p=3$ for which the theorem yields existence of $3$-adic lifts. In the proof of the main theorem, we show that if the global deformation rings are not flat over $\mathbb{Z}_p$ at the minimal level, then after allowing ramification at one auxiliary prime, the new parts of the global rings enjoy the flatness property. The proof is independent of the parity of the representations. Previously, flatness was only known in established cases of Langlands reciprocity in the odd parity, while it is new for even deformation rings in balanced global settings of rank one. As a corollary, we show that by choosing the auxiliary prime appropriately, we can control the rank mod $p$ of the new part of the flat ring. The examples of $3$-adic representations and flat, even deformation rings are built by applying techniques from global class field theory to a family of totally real fields studied by D. Shanks. In the process of constructing the even residual representations, we show that there exist cuspidal automorphic representations $\pi$ and $\pi'$ of $\operatorname{GL}(2,\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{Q}})$ attached to classical Maass wave forms of level $\ell=20887$ whose mod 3 reductions are distinct. The proof applies a theorem of R. P. Langlands from his theory of base change.

Dieudonné theory for $n$-smooth group schemes

Abstract:For all $n \geq 1$, there is a notion of $n$-smooth group scheme over any $\mathbb{F}_p$-algebra $R$, which may be thought of as a ``Frobenius analogue" of $n$-truncated Barsotti-Tate groups over $R$. We show that the category of $n$-smooth commutative group schemes over $R$ is equivalent to a certain full subcategory of Dieudonné modules over $R$. As a consequence, we show that the moduli stack $\mathrm{Sm}_n$ of $n$-smooth commutative group schemes is smooth over $\mathbb{F}_p$ and that the natural truncation morphism $\mathrm{Sm}_{n+1} \to \mathrm{Sm}_n$ is smooth and surjective. These results affirmatively answer conjectures of Drinfeld.
