Abstract:We present a new computer program, $\texttt{feyntrop}$, which uses the tropical geometric approach to evaluate Feynman integrals numerically. In order to apply this approach in the physical regime, we introduce a new parametric representation of Feynman integrals that implements the causal $i\varepsilon$ prescription concretely while retaining projective invariance. $\texttt{feyntrop}$ can efficiently evaluate dimensionally regulated, quasi-finite Feynman integrals, with not too exceptional kinematics in the physical regime, with a relatively large number of propagators and with arbitrarily many kinematic scales. We give a systematic classification of all relevant kinematic regimes, review the necessary mathematical details of the tropical Monte Carlo approach, give fast algorithms to evaluate (deformed) Feynman integrands, describe the usage of $\texttt{feyntrop}$ and discuss many explicit examples of evaluated Feynman integrals.

Abstract:Feynman integrals play a central role in the modern scattering amplitudes research program. Advancing our methods for evaluating Feynman integrals will, therefore, strengthen our ability to compare theoretical predictions with data from particle accelerators such as the Large Hadron Collider. Motivated by this, the present manuscript purports to study mathematical concepts related to Feynman integrals. In particular, we present both numerical and analytical algorithms for the evaluation of Feynman integrals.

Feynman Polytopes and the Tropical Geometry of UV and IR Divergences

Abstract:We introduce a class of polytopes that concisely capture the structure of UV and IR divergences of general Feynman integrals in Schwinger parameter space, treating them in a unified way as worldline segments shrinking and expanding at different relative rates. While these polytopes conventionally arise as convex hulls - via Newton polytopes of Symanzik polynomials - we show that they also have a remarkably simple dual description as cut out by linear inequalities defining the facets. It is this dual definition that makes it possible to transparently understand and efficiently compute leading UV and IR divergences for any Feynman integral. In the case of the UV, this provides a transparent geometric understanding of the familiar nested and overlapping divergences. In the IR, the polytope exposes a new perspective on soft/collinear singularities and their intricate generalizations. Tropical geometry furnishes a simple framework for calculating the leading UV/IR divergences of any Feynman integral, associating them with the volumes of certain dual cones. As concrete applications, we generalize Weinberg's theorem to include a characterization of IR divergences, and classify space-time dimensions in which general IR divergences (logarithmic as well as power-law) can occur. We also compute the leading IR divergence of rectangular fishnet diagrams at all loop orders, which turn out to have a surprisingly simple combinatorial description.

Finite Integrals from Feynman Polytopes

Abstract:We investigate a geometric approach to determining the complete set of numerators giving rise to finite Feynman integrals. Our approach proceeds graph by graph, and makes use of the Newton polytope associated to the integral's Symanzik polynomials. It relies on a theorem by Berkesch, Forsgård, and Passare on the convergence of Euler--Mellin integrals, which include Feynman integrals. We conjecture that a necessary in addition to a sufficient condition is that all parameter-space monomials lie in the interior of the polytope. We present an algorithm for finding all finite numerators based on this conjecture. In a variety of examples, we find agreement between the results obtained using the geometric approach, and a Landau-analysis approach developed by Gambuti, Tancredi, and two of the authors.

Abstract:This talk reviews recent developments in the field of analytical Feynman integral calculations. The central theme is the geometry associated to a given Feynman integral. In the simplest case this is a complex curve of genus zero (aka the Riemann sphere). In this talk we discuss Feynman integrals related to more complicated geometries like curves of higher genus or manifolds of higher dimensions. In the latter case we encounter Calabi-Yau manifolds. We also discuss how to compute these Feynman integrals.

Efficient reduction of Feynman integrals on supercomputers

Abstract:Feynman integral reduction by means of integration-by-parts identities is a major power gadget in a theorist toolbox indispensable for calculation of multiloop quantum effects relevant for particle phenomenology and formal theory alike. An algorithmic approach consists of solving a large sparse non-square system of homogeneous linear equations with polynomial coefficients. While an analytical way of doing this is legitimate and was pursued for decades, it undoubtedly has its limitations when applied in complicated circumstances. Thus, a complementary framework based on modular arithmetic becomes critical on the way to conquer the current `what is possible' frontier. This calls for use of supercomputers to address the reduction problem. In order to properly utilize these computational resources, one has to efficiently optimize the technique for this purpose. Presently, we discuss and implement various methods which allow us to significantly improve performance of Feynman integral reduction within the FIRE environment.

Abstract:We introduce the tropical $F$-polynomial $f_M$ of a quiver representation $M$. We study its interplay with the general presentation for any finite-dimensional basic algebra. We give an interpretation of evaluating $f_M$ at a weight vector. As a consequence, we give a presentation of the Newton polytope ${\sf N}(M)$ of $M$. We study the dual fan and 1-skeleton of ${\sf N}(M)$. We propose an algorithm to determine the generic Newton polytopes, and show it works for path algebras. As an application, we give a representation-theoretic interpretation of Fock-Goncharov's duality pairing. We give an explicit construction of dual clusters, which consists of real Schur representations. We specialize the above general results to the cluster-finite algebras and the preprojective algebras of Dynkin type.
The Tropical Geometry of Subtraction Schemes

Abstract:We study the construction of local subtraction schemes through the lenses of tropical geometry. We focus on individual Feynman integrals in parametric presentation, and think of them as particular instances of Euler integrals. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a combination of Euler integrands to be locally finite, i.e. to be expandable as a Taylor series in the exponent variables directly under sign of integration. We use this to construct a local subtraction scheme that is applicable to a class of Euler integrals that satisfy a certain geometric property. We apply this to compute the Laurent expansion in the dimensional regulator $\epsilon$ of various Feynman integrals involving both UV and IR singularities, as well as to generalizations of Feynman integrals that arise in effective field theories and in phase-space integrations.

Abstract:This expository text is about using toric geometry and mirror symmetry for evaluating Feynman integrals. We show that the maximal cut of a Feynman integral is a GKZ hypergeometric series. We explain how this allows to determine the minimal differential operator acting on the Feynman integrals. We illustrate the method on sunset integrals in two dimensions at various loop orders. The graph polynomials of the multi-loop sunset Feynman graphs lead to reflexive polytopes containing the origin and the associated variety are ambient spaces for Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces. Therefore the sunset family is a natural home for mirror symmetry techniques. We review the evaluation of the two-loop sunset integral as an elliptic dilogarithm and as a trilogarithm. The equivalence between these two expressions is a consequence of (1) the local mirror symmetry for the non-compact Calabi-Yau three-fold obtained as the anti-canonical hypersurface of the del Pezzo surface of degree 6 defined by the sunset graph polynomial and (2) that the sunset Feynman integral is expressed in terms of the local Gromov-Witten prepotential of this del Pezzo surface.

Abstract:In this work we report on a new version of FeynCalc, a Mathematica package widely used in the particle physics community for manipulating quantum field theoretical expressions and calculating Feynman diagrams. Highlights of the new version include greatly improved capabilities for doing multiloop calculations, including topology identification and minimization, optimized tensor reduction, rewriting of scalar products in terms of inverse denominators, detection of equivalent or scaleless loop integrals, derivation of Symanzik polynomials, Feynman parametric as well as graph representation for master integrals and initial support for handling differential equations and iterated integrals. In addition to that, the new release also features completely rewritten routines for color algebra simplifications, inclusion of symmetry relations between arguments of Passarino--Veltman functions, tools for determining matching coefficients and quantifying the agreement between numerical results, improved export to LaTeX and first steps towards a better support of calculations involving light-cone vectors.

Finite Feynman Integrals

Abstract:We describe an algorithm to organize Feynman integrals in terms of their infrared properties. Our approach builds upon the theory of Landau singularities, which we use to classify all configurations of loop momenta that can give rise to infrared divergences. We then construct bases of numerators for arbitrary Feynman integrals, which cancel all singularities and render the integrals finite. Through the same analysis, one can also classify so-called evanescent and evanescently finite Feynman integrals. These are integrals whose vanishing or finiteness relies on properties of dimensional regularization. To illustrate the use of these integrals, we display how to obtain a simpler form for the leading-color two-loop four-gluon scattering amplitude through the choice of a suitable basis of finite integrals. In particular, when all gluon helicities are equal, we show that with our basis the most complicated double-box integrals do not contribute to the finite remainder of the scattering amplitude.

Abstract:Feynman integrals appropriately generalized are $\mathsf A$-hypergeometric functions. Among the properties of $\mathsf A$-hypergeometric functions are symmetries associated with the Newton polytope. In ordinary hypergeometric functions these symmetries lead to linear transformations. Combining tools of $\mathsf A$-hypergeometric systems and the computation of symmetries of polytopes, we consider the associated symmetries of Feynman integrals in the Lee-Pomeransky representation. We compute the symmetries of $\mathtt n$-gon integrals up to $\mathtt n=8$, massive banana integrals up to 5-loop, and on-shell ladders up to 3-loop. We apply these symmetries to study finite on-shell ladder integrals up to 3-loop.

Abstract:In the Lee-Pomeransky representation, Feynman integrals can be identified as a subset of Euler-Mellin integrals, which are known to satisfy Gel'fand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky (GKZ) system of partial differential equations. Here we present an automated package to derive the associated GKZ system for a given Feynman diagram and solve it in terms of hypergeometric functions using two equivalent algorithms, namely the triangulation method and the Gröbner deformation method. We present our code in the form of a Mathematica package <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://FeynGKZ.wl" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> which requires the softwares polymake, Macaulay2 and TOPCOM, and the packages AMBRE and <a class="link-external link-http" href="http://Olsson.wl" rel="external noopener nofollow">this http URL</a> as dependencies. As applications of the package, we find series solutions to the GKZ systems of several one-loop and two-loop Feynman integrals. The asymptotic Hopf Algebra of Feynman Integrals

Abstract:The method of regions is an approach for developing asymptotic expansions of Feynman Integrals. We focus on expansions in Euclidean signature, where the method of regions can also be formulated as an expansion by subgraph. We show that for such expansions valid around small/large masses and momenta the graph combinatorial operations can be formulated in terms of what we call the asymptotic Hopf algebra. This Hopf algebra is closely related to the motic Hopf algebra underlying the $R^*$ operation, an extension of Bogoliubov's $R$ operation, to subtract both IR and UV divergences of Feynman integrals in the Euclidean. We focus mostly on the leading power, for which the Hopf algebra formulation is simpler. We uncover a close connection between Bogoliubov's $R$ operation in the Connes-Kreimer formulation and the remainder $\mathcal{R}$ of the series expansion, whose Hopf algebraic structure is identically formalised in the corresponding group of characters. While in the Connes-Kreimer formulation the UV counterterm is formalised in terms of a twisted antipode, we show that in the expansion by subgraph a similar role is played by the integrand Taylor operator. To discuss the structure of higher power expansions we introduce a novel Hopf monoid formulation.

Abstract:Integration By Parts (IBP) is an important method for computing Feynman integrals. This work describes a formulation of the theory involving a set of differential equations in parameter space, and especially the definition and study of an associated Lie group G. The group acts on parameter space and foliates it into G-orbits. The differential equations essentially provide the gradient of the integral within the orbit in terms of integrals associated with degenerate diagrams. In this way the computation of a Feynman integral at a general point in parameter space is reduced to the evaluation of the Feynman integral at some freely chosen base point on the same orbit, together with a line integral inside the G-orbit and the degenerate integrals along the path. This paper restricts to vacuum diagrams and integrals without numerators, but the method is expected to generalize. The method is demonstrated by application to the two-loop vacuum diagram. A relation between the reducibility of a diagram though IBP and the reducibility of the associated electric circuit though the Y-Delta transform is speculated.

Abstract:We elaborate on the recent idea of a direct decomposition of Feynman integrals onto a basis of master integrals on maximal cuts using intersection numbers. We begin by showing an application of the method to the derivation of contiguity relations for special functions, such as the Euler beta function, the Gauss 2 F 1 hypergeometric function, and the Appell F 1 function. Then, we apply the new method to decompose Feynman integrals whose maximal cuts admit 1-form integral representations, including examples that have from two to an arbitrary number of loops, and/or from zero to an arbitrary number of legs. Direct constructions of differential equations and dimensional recurrence relations for Feynman integrals are also discussed. We present two novel approaches to decomposition-by-intersections in cases where the maximal cuts admit a 2-form integral representation, with a view towards the extension of the formalism to n -form representations. The decomposition formulae computed through the use of intersection numbers are directly verified to agree with the ones obtained using integration-by-parts identities.

Tropical Fermat-Weber Polytropes

Abstract:We study the geometry of tropical Fermat-Weber points in terms of the symmetric tropical metric over the tropical projective torus. It is well-known that a tropical Fermat-Weber point of a given sample is not unique and we show that the set of all possible Fermat-Weber points forms a polytrope. To prove this, we show that the tropical Fermat-Weber polytrope is a bounded cell of a tropical hyperplane arrangement given by both max- and min-tropical hyperplanes with apices given by the sample. We also define tropical Fermat-Weber gradients and provide a gradient descent algorithm that converges to the Fermat-Weber polytrope.
