Abstract:The only (unitary) perfect polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_2$ that are products of $x$, $x+1$ and Mersenne primes are precisely the nine (resp. nine "classes") known ones. This follows from a new result about the factorization of $M^{2h+1} +1$, for a Mersenne prime $M$ and for a positive integer $h$. Other consequences of such a factorization are new results about odd perfect polynomials.

Abstract:We address an arithmetic problem in the ring $\F_2[x]$ related to the fixed points of the sum of divisors function. We study some binary polynomials $A$ such that $\sigma(A)/A $ is still a binary polynomial. Technically, we prove that the only (unitary) perfect polynomials over $\F_2$ that are products of $x$, $x+1$ and of Mersenne primes are precisely the nine (resp. nine "classes") known ones. Abstract:Let $q$ be a prime power. We construct stable polynomials of the form $b^{m-1}(x+a)^m+c(x+a)+d$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ for $m=2,3,4$ by Capelli's lemma. When $m=3$ and $q$ is even, we confirm the conjecture of Ahmadi and Monsef-Shokri [2] that the polynomial $f(x) = x^3 + x^2 + 1$ is stable over $\mathbb{F}_{2}$. Moreover, when $m=2$ and $q\equiv 1\pmod{4}$, we improve a lower bound of the number of quadratic stable polynomials by Goméz-Pérez and Nicolás [4].

Abstract:We prove that the Krull-Schmidt decomposition of the Galois module of the $p$-adic completion of algebraic units is controlled by the primes that are ramified in the Galois extension and the $S$-ideal class group. We also compute explicit upper bounds for the number of possible Galois module structures of algebraic units when the Galois group is cyclic of order $p^{2}$ or $p^{3}$.

Abstract:We begin by considering a sequence of polynomials in three variables whose coefficients count restricted binary overpartitions with certain properties. We then concentrate on two specific subsequences that are closely related to the Chebyshev polynomials of both kinds, deriving combinatorial and algebraic properties of some special cases. We show that the zeros of these polynomial sequences lie on certain algebraic curves, some of which we study in greater detail. Finally, we extend part of this work to restricted $b$-ary overpartitions for arbitrary integers $b\geq 2$.

Abstract:The problem of constructing a family of polynomials over a finite field all yielding permutations in a single conjugacy class, namely involutions with specified number of fixed points, is addressed. For an odd prime power q satisfying we construct totally permutation polynomials, all giving involutory permutations with exactly fixed points. Among them polynomials are trinomials, and the rest are 6-term polynomials.

Abstract:We examine hypergeometric functions in the finite field, p-adic and classical settings. In each setting, we prove a formula which splits the hypergeometric function into a sum of lower order functions whose arguments differ by roots of unity. We provide multiple applications of these results, including new reduction and summation formulas for finite field hypergeometric functions, along with classical analogues; evaluations of special values of these functions which apply in both the finite field and p-adic settings; and new relations to Fourier coefficients of modular forms.

Abstract:In this note we consider algebraic exponential sums over the values of homogeneous nonsingular polynomials $F(x_1, \cdots, x_n) \in \mathbb{Z}[x_1, \cdots, x_n]$ in the quotient ring $\mathbb{Z}/p^2\mathbb{Z}$. We provide an estimate of this exponential sum and a corresponding stratification of the space $\mathbb{A}_{\mathbb{F}_p}^n$, which in particular illustrates a general stratification theorem of Fouvry and Katz.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a totally real field in which $p$ is unramified and $B$ be a quaternion algebra which splits at at most one infinite place. Let $\overline{r}:\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{F}/F)\to \mathrm{GL}_2(\overline{\mathbb{F}}_p)$ be a modular Galois representation which satisfies the Taylor-Wiles hypotheses. Assume that for some fixed place $v|p$, $B$ ramifies at $v$ and $F_v$ is isomorphic to $ \mathbb{Q}_p$ and $\overline{r}$ is generic at $v$. We prove that the admissible smooth representations of the quaternion algebra over $\mathbb{Q}_p$ coming from mod $p$ cohomology of Shimura varieties associated to $B$ have Gelfand-Kirillov dimension $1$. As an application we prove that the degree two Scholze's functor vanishes on supersingular representations of $\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)$. We also prove some finer structure theorem about the image of Scholze's functor in the reducible case.

Abstract:Working over the split octonions over an algebraically closed field, we solve a polynomial equation, where all coefficients are scalar with the possible exception for the free term. As a consequence, we calculated the n-th radicals of an octonion.

Abstract:We prove a Galois equidistribution result for torsion points in $\mathbb G_m^n$ in the $p$-adic setting for test functions of the form $\log |F|_p$ where $F$ is a nonzero polynomial with coefficients in the $p$-adic numbers. Our result includes a power saving quantitative estimate of the decay rate rate of the equidistribution. As an application we show that Ih's Conjecture is true for a class of divisors of $\mathbb G_m^n$.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a simple abelian variety over a number field $k$ such that $\operatorname{End}(A)$ is noncommutative. We show that $A$ splits modulo all but finitely many primes of $k$. We prove this by considering the subalgebras of $\operatorname{End}(A_{\mathfrak p})\otimes\mathbb{Q}$ which have prime Schur index. Our main tools are Tate's characterization of endomorphism algebras of abelian varieties over finite fields, and a Theorem of Chia-Fu Yu on embeddings of simple algebras.

Class Number Formulas for Certain Biquadratic Fields

Abstract:We consider the class numbers of imaginary quadratic extensions $F(\sqrt{-p})$, for certain primes $p$, of totally real quadratic fields $F$ which have class number one. Using seminal work of Shintani, we obtain two elementary class number formulas for many such fields. The first expresses the class number as an alternating sum of terms that we generate from the coefficients of the power series expansions of two simple rational functions that depend on the arithmetic of $F$ and $p$. The second makes use of expansions of $1/p$, where $p$ is a prime such that $p \equiv 3 \pmod{4}$ and $p$ remains inert in $F$. More precisely, for a generator $\varepsilon_F$ of the totally positive unit group of $\mathcal{O}_F$, the base-$\varepsilon_{F}$ expansion of $1/p$ has period length $\ell_{F,p}$, and our second class number formula expresses the class number as a finite sum over disjoint cosets of size $\ell_{F,p}$.

Abstract: Let $D$ be a negative integer congruent to $0$ or $1\bmod{4}$ and $\mathcal{O}=\mathcal{O}_D$ be the corresponding order of $ K=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{D})$. The Hilbert class polynomial $H_D(x)$ is the minimal polynomial of the $j$-invariant $ j_D=j(\mathbb{C}/\mathcal{O})$ of $\mathcal{O}$ over $K$. Let $n_D=(\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{Q}( j_D)}:\mathbb{Z}[ j_D])$ denote the index of $\mathbb{Z}[ j_D]$ in the ring of integers of $\mathbb{Q}(j_D)$. Suppose $p$ is any prime. We completely determine the factorization of $H_D(x)$ in $\mathbb{F}_p[x]$ if either $p\nmid n_D$ or $p\nmid D$ is inert in $K$ and the $p$-adic valuation $v_p(n_D)\leq 3$. As an application, we analyze the key space of Oriented Supersingular Isogeny Diffie-Hellman (OSIDH) protocol proposed by Col\`o and Kohel in 2019 which is the roots set of the Hilbert class polynomial in $\mathbb{F}_{p^2}$.
Coprime-Universal Quadratic Forms

Abstract:Given a prime $p>3$, we characterize positive-definite integral quadratic forms that are coprime-universal for $p$, i.e. representing all positive integers coprime to $p$. This generalizes the $290$-Theorem by Bhargava and Hanke and extends later works by Rouse ($p=2$) and De Benedetto and Rouse ($p=3$). When $p=5,23,29,31$, our results are conditional on the coprime-universality of specific ternary forms. We prove this assumption under GRH (for Dirichlet and modular $L$-functions), following a strategy introduced by Ono and Soundararajan, together with some more elementary techniques borrowed from Kaplansky and Bhargava. Finally, we discuss briefly the problem of representing all integers in an arithmetic progression.
