Abstract:We show how to formulate some recent results from homological stability of algebras in Graham and Lehrer's language of cellular algebras. The aim is to begin to connect the new results from topology to well-established representation theoretic understandings of these objects.

Abstract:We give a set of foundations for cellular $E_k$-algebras which are especially convenient for applications to homological stability. We provide conceptual and computational tools in this setting, such as filtrations, a homology theory for $E_k$-algebras with a Hurewicz theorem, CW approximations, and many spectral sequences, which shall be used for such applications in future papers.

Abstract:We prove a new kind of homological stability theorem for automorphism groups of finitely-generated projective modules over Dedekind domains, which takes into account all possible stabilisation maps between these, rather than only stabilisation by the free module of rank 1. We show the same kind of stability holds for Clausen and Jansen's reductive Borel--Serre spaces.

Abstract:This paper provides a systematization of some recent results in homology of algebras. Our main theorem gives criteria under which the homology of a diagram algebra is isomorphic to the homology of the subalgebra on diagrams having the maximum number of left-to-right connections. From this theorem, we deduce the 'invertible-parameter' cases of the Temperley–Lieb and Brauer results of Boyd–Hepworth and Boyd–Hepworth–Patzt. We are also able to give a new proof of Sroka's theorem that the homology of an odd-strand Temperley–Lieb algebra vanishes, as well as an analogous result for Brauer algebras and an interpretation of both results in the even-strand case. Our proofs are relatively elementary: in particular, no auxiliary chain complexes or spectral sequences are required. We briefly discuss the relationship to cellular algebras in the sense of Graham–Lehrer.

Abstract:We prove a representation stability result for the second homology groups of Torelli subgroups of mapping class groups and automorphism groups of free groups. This strengthens the results of Boldsen-Hauge Dollerup and Day-Putman. We also prove a new representation stability result for the homology of certain congruence subgroups, partially improving upon the work of Putman-Sam. These results follow from a general theorem on syzygies of certain modules with finite polynomial degree.

Abstract:In this note, we outline the general development of a theory of symmetric homology of algebras, an analog of cyclic homology where the cyclic groups are replaced by symmetric groups. This theory is developed using the framework of crossed simplicial groups and the homological algebra of module-valued functors. The symmetric homology of group algebras is related to stable homotopy theory. Two spectral sequences for computing symmetric homology are constructed. The relation to cyclic homology is discussed and some conjectures and questions towards further work are discussed.

Abstract:We prove homological stability for two different flavours of asymptotic monopole moduli spaces, namely moduli spaces of framed Dirac monopoles and moduli spaces of ideal monopoles. The former are Gibbons-Manton torus bundles over configuration spaces whereas the latter are obtained from them by replacing each circle factor of the fibre with a monopole moduli space by the Borel construction. They form boundary hypersurfaces in a partial compactification of the classical monopole moduli spaces. Our results follow from a general homological stability result for configuration spaces equipped with non-local data.

Abstract:We analyze stable homology over associative rings and obtain results over Artin algebras and commutative noetherian rings. Our study develops similarly for these classes; for simplicity we only discuss the latter here. Stable homology is a broad generalization of Tate homology. Vanishing of stable homology detects classes of rings---among them Gorenstein rings, the original domain of Tate homology. Closely related to gorensteinness of rings is Auslander's G-dimension for modules. We show that vanishing of stable homology detects modules of finite G-dimension. This is the first characterization of such modules in terms of vanishing of (co)homology alone. Stable homology, like absolute homology, Tor, is a theory in two variables. It can be computed from a flat resolution of one module together with an injective resolution of the other. This betrays that stable homology is not balanced in the way Tor is balanced. In fact, we prove that a ring is Gorenstein if and only if stable homology is balanced.

Abstract:We relate two different proposals to extend the étale topology into homotopy theory, namely via the notion of finite cover introduced by Mathew and via the notion of separable commutative algebra introduced by Balmer. We show that finite covers are precisely those separable commutative algebras with underlying dualizable module, which have a locally constant and finite degree function. We then use Galois theory to classify separable commutative algebras in numerous categories of interest. Examples include the category of modules over a connective $\mathbb{E}_\infty$-ring $R$ which is either connective or even periodic with $\pi_0(R)$ regular Noetherian in which $2$ acts invertibly, the stable module category of a finite group of $p$-rank one and the derived category of a qcqs scheme.

Abstract:We study homological invariants of étale groupoids arising from Smale spaces, continuing on our previous work, but going beyond the stably disconnected case by incorporating resolutions in the space direction. We show that the homology groups defined by Putnam are isomorphic to the Crainic-Moerdijk groupoid homology with integer coefficients. We also show that the K-groups of C*-algebras of stable and unstable equivalence relations have finite rank. For unstably disconnected Smale spaces, we provide a cohomological spectral sequence whose second page is the (stable) homology groups, and converges to the K-groups of the unstable C*-algebra.

Abstract:We show that non-pointed versions of the classical homological lemmas hold in regular protomodular categories equipped with a suitable posetal monocoreflective subcategory. Examples of such categories are all protomodular varieties of universal algebras having more than one constant, like the ones of unitary rings, Boolean algebras, Heyting algebras and MV-algebras, their topological models, and the dual category of every elementary topos.

Abstract:We study the space of smooth marked hypersurfaces in a given linear system. Specifically, we prove a homology h-principle to compare it with a space of sections of an appropriate jet bundle. Using rational models, we compute its rational cohomology in a range of degrees, and deduce a homological stability result for hypersurfaces of increasing degree. We also describe the Hodge weights on the stable cohomology, and thereby connect our topological result to motivic results of Howe.

Abstract:In \verb|<a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="1212.5901" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/1212.5901">arXiv:1212.5901</a>| we associated an algebra $\Gami(\fA)$ to every bornological algebra $\fA$ and an ideal $I_{S(\fA)}\triqui\Gami(\fA)$ to every symmetric ideal $S\triqui\elli$. We showed that $I_{S(\fA)}$ has $K$-theoretical properties which are similar to those of the usual stabilization with respect to the ideal $J_S\triqui\cB$ of the algebra $\cB$ of bounded operators in Hilbert space which corresponds to $S$ under Calkin's correspondence. In the current article we compute the relative cyclic homology $HC_*(\Gami(\fA):I_{S(\fA)})$. Using these calculations, and the results of \emph{loc. cit.}, we prove that if $\fA$ is a $C^*$-algebra and $c_0$ the symmetric ideal of sequences vanishing at infinity, then $K_*(I_{c_0(\fA)})$ is homotopy invariant, and that if $*\ge 0$, it contains $K^{\top}_*(\fA)$ as a direct summand. This is a weak analogue of the Suslin-Wodzicki theorem (\cite{sw1}) that says that for the ideal $\cK=J_{c_0}$ of compact operators and the $C^*$-algebra tensor product $\fA\sotimes\cK$, we have $K_*(\fA\sotimes\cK)=K^{\top}_*(\fA)$. Similarly, we prove that if $\fA$ is a unital Banach algebra and $\ell^{\infty-}=\bigcup_{q<\infty}\ell^q$, then $K_*(I_{\ell^{\infty-}(\fA)})$ is invariant under Hölder continuous homotopies, and that for $*\ge 0$ it contains $K^{\top}_*(\fA)$ as a direct summand. These $K$-theoretic results are obtained from cyclic homology computations. We also compute the relative cyclic homology groups $HC_*(\Gami(\fA):I_{S(\fA)})$ in terms of $HC_*(\elli(\fA):S(\fA))$ for general $\fA$ and $S$. For $\fA=\C$ and general $S$, we further compute the latter groups in terms of algebraic differential forms. We prove that the map $HC_n(\Gami(\C):I_{S(\C)})\to HC_n(\cB:J_S)$ is an isomorphism in many cases.

Abstract:We show that the homology of the partition algebras, interpreted as appropriate Tor-groups, is isomorphic to that of the symmetric groups in a range of degrees that increases with the number of nodes. Furthermore, we show that when the defining parameter $\delta$ of the partition algebra is invertible, the homology of the partition algebra is in fact isomorphic to the homology of the symmetric group in all degrees. These results parallel those obtained for the Brauer algebras in the authors' earlier work, but with significant differences and difficulties in the inductive resolution and high acyclicity arguments required to prove them. Our results join the growing literature on homological stability for algebras, which now encompasses the Temperley-Lieb, Brauer and partition algebras, as well as the Iwahori-Hecke algebras of types A and B.

On the Homological Stability of Orthogonal and Spin Groups

Abstract:We prove homological stability results for the orthogonal group, special orthogonal group, elementary orthogonal group and the spin group with respect to the hyperbolic form. We prove homological stability over a commutative local ring $R$ with infinite residue field such that $2 \in R^{*}$. In the orthogonal case, this improves the range for homological stability given by Mirzaii by 1 and generalises the result obtained by Sprehn and Wahl to the case of local rings. In the special orthogonal case, this generalises the result obtained by Essert for infinite fields to the case of local rings, and is the first homological stability result for the special orthogonal group over a local ring. For the elementary orthogonal group, this is the first known homological stability result. For the spin group, this coincides with $H_{1}$-stability and $H_{2}$-stability results stated in Hahn-O'Meara, and is the first homological stability result that accounts for all homology groups.

Secondary Homological Stability for Unordered Configuration Spaces

Abstract:Secondary homological stability is a recently discovered stability pattern for the homology of a sequence of spaces exhibiting homological stability in a range where homological stability does not hold. We prove secondary homological stability for the homology of the unordered configuration spaces of a connected manifold. The main difficulty is the case that the manifold is closed because there are no obvious maps inducing stability and the homology eventually is periodic instead of stable. We resolve this issue by constructing a new chain-level stabilization map for configuration spaces.

Abstract:We consider the homology theory of étale groupoids introduced by Crainic and Moerdijk, with particular interest to groupoids arising from topological dynamical systems. We prove a Künneth formula for products of groupoids and a Poincaré-duality type result for groupoids which are principal with orbits homeomorphic to a Euclidean space. We conclude with a few example computations for systems associated to nilpotent groups such as self-similar actions, and we generalize previous homological calculations by Burke and Putnam for systems which are analogues of solenoids arising from algebraic numbers. For the latter systems, we prove the HK conjecture, even when the resulting groupoid is not ample.

Abstract:A method for establishing a Gerstenhaber algebra structure on the cohomology of Loday-type algebras is presented. This method is then applied to dendriform dialgebras and three types of trialgebras introduced by Loday and Ronco. Along the way, our results are combined with a result of McClure-Smith to prove an analogue of Deligne's conjecture for Loday algebras.

Abstract:McDuff and Segal proved that unordered configuration spaces of open manifolds satisfy homological stability: there is a stabilization map $\sigma: C_n(M)\to C_{n+1}(M)$ which is an isomorphism on $H_d(-;\mathbb{Z})$ for $n\gg d$. For a finite group $G$ and an open $G$-manifold $M$, under some hypotheses we define a family of equivariant stabilization maps $\sigma_{G/H}:C_n(M)\to C_{n+|G/H|}(M)$ for $H\leq G$. In general, these do not induce stability for Bredon homology, the equivariant analogue of singular homology. Instead, we show that each $\sigma_{G/H}$ induces isomorphisms on the ordinary homology of the fixed points of $C_n(M)$, and if the group is Dedekind (e.g. abelian), we obtain the following Bredon homological stability statement: $H^G_d(\bigsqcup_{n\geq 0}C_n(M))$ is finitely generated over $\mathbb{Z}[\sigma_{G/H} : H\leq G]$. This reduces to the classical statement when $G=e$.

Abstract:Bakalov, Kac and Voronov introduced Leibniz conformal algebras (and their cohomology) as a non-commutative analogue of Lie conformal algebras. Leibniz conformal algebras are closely related to field algebras which are non-skew-symmetric generalizations of vertex algebras. In this paper, we first introduce $Leib_\infty$-conformal algebras (also called strongly homotopy Leibniz conformal algebras) where the Leibniz conformal identity holds up to homotopy. We give some equivalent descriptions of $Leib_\infty$-conformal algebras and characterize some particular classes of $Leib_\infty$-conformal algebras in terms of the cohomology of Leibniz conformal algebras and crossed modules of Leibniz conformal algebras. On the other hand, we also introduce Leibniz conformal $2$-algebras that can be realized as the categorification of Leibniz conformal algebras. Finally, we observe that the category of Leibniz conformal $2$-algebras is equivalent to the category of $2$-term $Leib_\infty$-conformal algebras.
