Abstract:In a first time we present a version of the Poincar{é}-Lefschetz theorem for certain cellular cosheaves on a particular subdivision of a CW-complex K. To that end we construct a cellular sheaf on K whose cohomology with compact support is isomorphic to the homology of the initial cosheaf. In a second time we use the first result to generalise the tropical version of the Lefschetz hyperplane section theorem to singular tropical toric varieties and singular tropical hypersurfaces.

Chern classes in equivariant bordism

Abstract:We introduce Chern classes in -equivariant homotopical bordism that refine the Conner–Floyd–Chern classes in the -cohomology of . For products of unitary groups, our Chern classes form regular sequences that generate the augmentation ideal of the equivariant bordism rings. Consequently, the Greenlees–May local homology spectral sequence collapses for products of unitary groups. We use the Chern classes to reprove the -completion theorem of Greenlees–May and La Vecchia.

A Guide to Equivariant Parametrized Cohomology

Abstract:This article investigates equivariant parametrized cellular cohomology, a cohomology theory introduced by Costenoble-Waner for spaces with an action by a compact Lie group $G$. The theory extends the $RO(G)$-graded cohomology of a $G$-space $B$ to a cohomology graded by $RO(\Pi B)$, the representations of the equivariant fundamental groupoid of $B$. This paper is meant to serve as a guide to this theory and contains some new computations. We explain the key ingredients for defining parametrized cellular cohomology when $G$ is a finite group, with particular attention to the case of the cyclic group $G=C_2$. We compute some examples and observe that $RO(\Pi B)$ is not always free. When $G$ is the trivial group, we explain how to identify equivariant parametrized cellular cohomology with cellular cohomology in local coefficients. Finally, we illustrate the theory with some new computations of parametrized cellular cohomology for several spaces with $G = C_2$ and $G=C_4$.

Abstract:This paper shows that the integral equivariant cohomology Chern numbers completely determine the equivariant geometric unitary bordism classes of closed unitary $G$-manifolds, which gives an affirmative answer to the conjecture posed by Guillemin--Ginzburg--Karshon in [20, Remark H.5, $\S3$, Appendix H], where $G$ is a torus. As a further application, we also obtain a satisfactory solution of [20, Question (A), $\S1.1$, Appendix H] on unitary Hamiltonian $G$-manifolds. Our key ingredients in the proof are the universal toric genus defined by Buchstaber--Panov--Ray and the Kronecker pairing of bordism and cobordism. Our approach heavily exploits Quillen's geometric interpretation of homotopic unitary cobordism theory. Moreover, this method can also be applied to the study of $({\Bbb Z}_2)^k$-equivariant unoriented bordism and can still derive the classical result of tom Dieck.

Abstract:In this paper, we employ the framework of localization algebras to compute the equivariant K-homology class of the Euler characteristic operator, a central object in studying equivariant index theory on manifolds. This approach provides a powerful algebraic language for analyzing differential operators on equivariant structures and allows for the application of Witten deformation techniques in a K-homological context. Utilizing these results, we establish an equivariant version of the Poincaré-Hopf theorem, extending classical topological insights to the equivariant case, inspired by the results of Lück-Rosenberg. This work thus offers a new perspective on the localization techniques in the equivariant K-homology, highlighting their utility in deriving explicit formulas for index-theoretic invariants.

Abstract:We set up machinery for recognizing k-cellular modules and k-cellular approximations, where k is an R-module and R is either a ring or a ring-spectrum. Using this machinery we can identify the target of the Eilenberg-Moore cohomology spectral sequence for a fibration in various cases. In this manner we get new proofs for known results concerning the Eilenberg-Moore spectral sequence and generalize another result.

Abstract:In this paper, we develop methods for calculating equivariant homology from equivariant Morse functions on a closed manifold with the action of a finite group. We show how to alter $G$-equivariant Morse functions to a stable one, where the descending manifold from a critical point $p$ has the same stabilizer group as $p$, giving a better-behaved cell structure on $M$. For an equivariant, stable Morse function, we show that a generic equivariant metric satisfies the Morse--Smale condition. In the process, we give a proof that a generic equivariant function is Morse, and that equivariant, stable Morse functions form a dense subset in the $C^0$-topology within the space of all equivariant functions. Finally, we give an expository account of equivariant homology and cohomology theories, as well as their interaction with Morse theory. We show that any equivariant Morse function gives a filtration of $M$ that induces a Morse spectral sequence, computing the equivariant homology of $M$ from information about how the stabilizer group of a critical point acts on its tangent space. In the case of a stable Morse function, we show that this can be further reduced to a Morse chain complex.

Equivariant formality in complex-oriented theories

Abstract:Let $G$ be a product of unitary groups and let $(M,\omega)$ be a compact symplectic manifold with Hamiltonian $G$-action. We prove an equivariant formality result for any complex-oriented cohomology theory $\mathbb{E}^*$ (in particular, integral cohomology). This generalizes the celebrated result of Atiyah-Bott-Kirwan for rational cohomology from the 1980s. The proof does not use classical ideas but instead relies on a recent cohomological splitting result of Abouzaid-McLean-Smith for Hamiltonian fibrations over $\mathbb{CP}^1.$ Moreover, we establish analogues of the "localization" and "injectivity to fixed points" theorems for certain cohomology theories studied by Hopkins-Kuhn-Ravenel. As an application of these results, we establish a Goresky-Kottwitz-MacPherson theorem with Morava $K$-theory coefficients for Hamiltonian $T$-manifolds.

Abstract:Poincare duality lies at the heart of the homological theory of manifolds. In the presence of the action of a group it is well-known that Poincare duality fails in Bredon's ordinary, integer-graded equivariant homology. We give here a detailed account of one way around this problem, which is to extend equivariant ordinary homology to a theory graded on representations of fundamental groupoids. Versions of this theory have appeared previously for actions of finite groups, but this is the first account that works for all compact Lie groups. The first part of this work is a detailed discussion of RO(G)-graded ordinary homology and cohomology, collecting scattered results and filling in gaps in the literature. In particular, we give details on change of groups and products that do not seem to have appeared elsewhere. We also discuss the relationship between ordinary homology and cohomology when the group is compact Lie, in which case the two theories are not represented by the same spectrum. The remainder of the work discusses the extension to grading on representations of fundamental groupoids, concentrating on those aspects that are not simple generalizations of the RO(G)-graded case. These theories can be viewed as defined on parametrized spaces, and then the representing objects are parametrized spectra; we use heavily foundational work of May and Sigurdsson on parametrized spectra. We end with a discussion of Poincare duality for arbitrary smooth equivariant manifolds.

Periodic phenomena in equivariant stable homotopy theory

Abstract:Building off of many recent advances in the subject by many different researchers, we describe a picture of A-equivariant chromatic homotopy theory which mirrors the now classical non-equivariant picture of Morava, Miller-Ravenel-Wilson, and Devinatz-Hopkins-Smith, where A is a finite abelian p-group. Specifically, we review the structure of the Balmer spectrum of the category of A-spectra, and the work of Hausmann-Meier connecting this to MU_A and equivariant formal group laws. Generalizing work of Bhattacharya-Guillou-Li, we introduce equivariant analogs of v_n-self maps, and generalizing work of Carrick and Balderrama, we introduce equivariant analogs of the chromatic tower, and give equivariant analogs of the smash product and chromatic convergence theorems. The equivariant monochromatic theory is also discussed. We explore computational examples of this theory in the case of A = C_2, where we connect equivariant chromatic theory with redshift phenomena in Mahowald invariants.

Abstract:For an algebra B with an action of a Hopf algebra H we establish the pairing between even equivariant cyclic cohomology and equivariant K-theory for B. We then extend this formalism to compact quantum group actions and show that equivariant cyclic cohomology is a target space for the equivariant Chern character of equivariant summable Fredholm modules. We prove an analogue of Julg's theorem relating equivariant K-theory to ordinary K-theory of the C*-algebra crossed product, and characterize equivariant vector bundles on quantum homogeneous spaces.

Equivariant parametrized topological complexity

Abstract:In this paper, we define and study an equivariant analogue of Cohen, Farber and Weinberger's parametrized topological complexity. We show that several results in the non-equivariant case can be extended to the equivariant case. For example, we establish the fibrewise equivariant homotopy invariance of the sequential equivariant parametrized topological complexity. We obtain several bounds on sequential equivariant topological complexity involving equivariant category. We also obtain the cohomological lower bound and the dimension-connectivity upper bound on the sequential equivariant parametrized topological complexity. In the end we use these results to compute sequential equivariant parametrized topological complexity of equivariant Fadell-Neuwirth fibrations and some equivariant fibrations involving generalized projective product spaces.

Abstract:We consider the semi-direct products $G=\mathbb Z^2\rtimes GL_2(\mathbb Z), \mathbb Z^2\rtimes SL_2(\mathbb Z)$ and $\mathbb Z^2\rtimes\Gamma(2)$ (where $\Gamma(2)$ is the congruence subgroup of level 2). For each of them, we compute both sides of the Baum-Connes conjecture, namely the equivariant $K$-homology of the classifying space $\underline{E}G$ for proper actions on the left-hand side, and the analytical K-theory of the reduced group $C^*$-algebra on the right-hand side. The computation of the LHS is made possible by the existence of a 3-dimensional model for $\underline{E}G$, which allows to replace equivariant K-homology by Bredon homology. We pay due attention to the presence of torsion in $G$, leading to an extensive study of the wallpaper groups associated with finite subgroups. For the second and third groups, the computations in $K_0$ provide explicit generators that are matched by the Baum-Connes assembly map.

Abstract:In this paper, we produce a cellular motivic spectrum of motivic modular forms over $\R$ and $\C$, answering positively to a conjecture of Dan Isaksen. This spectrum is constructed to have the appropriate cohomology, as a module over the relevant motivic Steenrod algebra. We first produce a $\G$-equivariant version of this spectrum, and then use a machinery to construct a motivic spectrum from an equivariant one. We believe that this machinery will be of independent interest.

Equivariant geometry of symmetric quiver orbit closures

Abstract:We unify problems about the equivariant geometry of symmetric quiver representation varieties, in the finite type setting, with the corresponding problems for symmetric varieties $GL(n)/K$ where $K$ is an orthogonal or symplectic group. In particular, we translate results about singularities of orbit closures; combinatorics of orbit closure containment; and torus equivariant cohomology and K-theory between these classes of varieties. We obtain these results by constructing explicit embeddings with nice properties of homogeneous fiber bundles over type $A$ symmetric quiver representation varieties into symmetric varieties.

Abstract:This is a survey of a variety of equivariant (co)homology theories for operator algebras. We briefly discuss a background on equivariant theories, such as equivariant $K$-theory and equivariant cyclic homology. As the main focus, we discuss a notion of equivariant $ L^2 $-cohomology and equivariant $ L^2 $-Betti numbers for subalgebras of a von Neumann algebra. For graded $C^*$-algebras (with grading over a group) we elaborate on a notion of graded $ L^2 $-cohomology and its relation to equivariant $L^2$-cohomology.
