Abstract:We find necessary and sufficient conditions for the finite separability of monogenic rings. As a corollary, we prove that a finitely generated torsion-free PI-ring is finitely separable if and only if its additive group is finitely generated.

Abstract:We find necessary and sufficient conditions for the finite separability of finitely generated commutative rings. Namely, we prove that every such ring is a finite extension of its torsion ideal $I_k$ where $k$ is square-free, and $I_k$ is a subdirect product of a finite ring and finitely many zero divisor-free rings of prime characteristic each of which is an entire extension of any of its infinite monogenic subrings.

Abstract:Let $P$ be a finitely generated commutative semiring. It was shown recently that if $P$ is a parasemifield (i.e. the multiplicative reduct of $P$ is a group) then $P$ cannot contain the positive rationals $\mathbb{Q}^+$ as its subsemiring. Equivalently, a commutative parasemifield $P$ finitely generated as a semiring is additively divisible if and only if $P$ is additively idempotent.

Abstract:An $S$-ring (a Schur ring) is said to be separable with respect to a class of groups $\mathcal{K}$ if every algebraic isomorphism from the $S$-ring in question to an $S$-ring over a group from $\mathcal{K}$ is induced by a combinatorial isomorphism. A finite group is said to be \emph{separable} with respect to $\mathcal{K}$ if every $S$-ring over this group is separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$. We provide a complete classification of abelian $p$-groups separable with respect to the class of abelian groups.

Abstract:An $S$-ring (a Schur ring) is said to be separable with respect to a class of groups $\mathcal{K}$ if every algebraic isomorphism from the $S$-ring in question to an $S$-ring over a group from $\mathcal{K}$ is induced by a combinatorial isomorphism. A finite group $G$ is said to be separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$ if every $S$-ring over $G$ is separable with respect to $\mathcal{K}$. We prove that every abelian group $G$ of order $9p$, where $p$ is a prime, is separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Modulo previously obtained results, this completes a classification of noncyclic abelian groups of odd order that are separable with respect to the class of all finite abelian groups. Also this implies that the Weisfeiler-Leman dimension of the class of Cayley graphs over $G$ is at most 2.

Abstract:We discuss residual finiteness and several related separabilityconditions for the class of monoid acts, namely weak subact separability, strongsubact separability and complete separability. For each of these four separabilityconditions, we investigate which monoids have the property that all their (finitelygenerated) acts satisfy the condition. In particular, we prove that: all acts over afinite monoid are completely separable (and hence satisfy the other three separabilityconditions); all finitely generated acts over a finitely generated commutativemonoid are residually finite and strongly subact separable (and hence weakly subactseparable); all acts over a commutative idempotent monoid are residually finiteand strongly subact separable; and all acts over a Clifford monoid are stronglysubact separable.

Abstract:We consider a finite associative ring R with or without a unit element. We also examine its center denoted by Z ( R ) Our main attention is focused on the introduction of two distinct graphs associated with R, namely, the center graph denoted by GC ( R ) and the strict center graph denoted by . We present the properties of GC ( R ) and explore its implications on the nature of Z ( R ) Specifically, we demonstrate that if GC ( R ) is complete, then Z ( R ) is an ideal in R. Furthermore, in the case where R is a unital ring, the completeness of GC ( R ) enables us to conclude that R is a commutative ring. As a specific application of our results, we present an explicit structure of the graph ( T 2 ( p )) , where T 2 ( p ) is the ring of upper-triangular matrices with entries in the ring Z/ p Z and p is a prime integer. In our investigations of the center graph and strict center graph, we try to clarify the properties of finite associative rings and their centers, thus providing valuable insights and applications in the ring theory.

Abstract:Let R be a commutative noetherian ring. Denote by mod R the category of finitely generated R-modules. In this paper, we investigate the finiteness of the radii of resolving subcategories of mod R with respect to a fixed semidualizing module. As an application, we give a partial positive answer to a conjecture of Dao and Takahashi: we prove that for a Cohen-Macaulay local ring R, a resolving subcategory of mod R has infinite radius whenever it contains a canonical module and a non-MCM module of finite injective dimension.

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative Noetherian ring of prime characteristic $p$. The main goal of this paper is to study in some detail when \[ \overline{W^R}:=\{\mathfrak{p}\in\operatorname{Spec} (R):\ \mathcal{F}^{E_{\mathfrak{p}}}\text{ is finitely generated as a ring over its degree zero piece}\} \] is an open set in the Zariski topology, where $\mathcal{F}^{E_{\mathfrak{p}}}$ denotes the Frobenius algebra attached to the injective hull of the residue field of $R_{\mathfrak{p}}.$ We show that this is true when $R$ is a Stanley--Reisner ring; moreover, in this case, we explicitly compute its closed complement, providing an algorithmic method for doing so.

Abstract:Using approximations, we give several characterizations of separability of bimodules. We also discuss how separability properties can be used to transfer some representation theoretic properties from one ring to another: contravariant finiteness of the subcategory of (finitely generated) left modules with finite projective dimension, finitistic dimension, finite representation type, Auslander algebra, tame or wild representation type.

Abstract:Let C be a subcategory of the category of finitely generated R-modules over a commutative noetheian ring R. We prove that, if C is closed under images and extensions (which we call an IE-closed subcategory), then C is closed under submodules, and hence is a torsion-free class. This result complements Stanley--Wang's result in some sense and, furthermore, provides a complete answer to the question posed by Iima--Matsui--Shimada--Takahashi. The proof relies on the general theory of IE-closed subcategories in an abelian category, which states that IE-closed subcategories are precisely the intersections of torsion classes and torsion-free classes. Additionally, we completely characterize right noetherian rings such that every IE-closed subcategory (or torsion-free class) is a Serre subcategory.

Abstract:In the first part of the paper, we provide a fairly complete description of a 2-torsion free simple ring R with involution f such that the skew traces relative to f of all elements of R form a commutative subset. In the remaining part, the results carried out earlier are put to work to delineate the structure of a simple Artinian ring R with involution f, which is equipped with a given non central submonoid M (= multiplicatively closed subset containing 1) preserved under f and under all inner automorphisms of R, and M is such that the skew traces of all elements of M form a commutative subset.

Abstract:In this paper, the (infinite) direct product of fields is investigated. In particular, the finiteness of a given set is characterized in terms of some ring-theoretic observations. Next, a certain localization (whose multiplicative set formed by cofinite sets) of the direct product of fields is studied. Finally, it is shown that every set $X$ can be made into a separated scheme, and this scheme is an affine scheme if and only if $X$ is a finite set.

Abstract:Let $A$ be a finite dimensional associative $\mathbb{K}$-algebra over an algebraically closed field $\mathbb{K}$ of characteristic zero. To $A$, we can associate its basic form that is given by a quiver $Q = (Q_0, Q_1)$ with an admissible ideal $R$. For a dimension vector $\beta$, we consider an irreducible component $\mathcal{C}$ of the module variety of $\beta$-dimensional representations of $A$. The reductive group ${\rm GL}_\beta(\mathbb{K}):= \prod_{i \in Q_0}{\rm GL}_{\beta_i}(\mathbb{K})$ acts on $\mathcal{C}$ by change of basis, and has a unique closed orbit. We consider the corresponding ring of semi-invariants ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$. We prove that if $\mathcal{C}$ is factorial and has maximal orbits of codimension one, then ${\rm SI}(Q, \mathcal{C})$ is a complete intersection and is not multiplicity free. If $\mathcal{C}$ is not factorial, then this conclusion does not necessarily hold. We present examples showing that the codimension of the complete intersection can be arbitrarily large. Finally, we interpret our results in the case of hereditary algebras.

Abstract:We study conditions under which subdirect products of various types of algebraic structures are finitely generated or finitely presented. In the case of two factors, we prove general results for arbitrary congruence permutable varieties, which generalise previously known results for groups, and which apply to modules, rings, $K$-algebras and loops. For instance, if $C$ is a fiber product of $A$ and $B$ over a common quotient $D$, and if $A$, $B$ and $D$ are finitely presented, then $C$ is finitely generated. For subdirect products of more than two factors we establish a general connection with projections on pairs of factors and higher commutators. More detailed results are provided for groups, loops, rings and $K$-algebras. In particular, let $C$ be a subdirect product of $K$-algebras $A_1,\dots,A_n$ for a Noetherian ring $K$ such that the projection of $C$ onto any $A_i\times A_j$ has finite co-rank in $A_i\times A_j$. Then $C$ is finitely generated (resp. finitely presented) if and only if all $A_i$ are finitely generated (resp. finitely presented). Finally, examples of semigroups and lattices are provided which indicate further complications as one ventures beyond congruence permutable varieties.

On $g$-finiteness in the category of projective presentations

Abstract:We provide new equivalent conditions for an algebra $\Lambda$ to be $g$-finite, analogous to those established by L. Demonet, O. Iyama, and G. Jasso, but within the category of projective presentations $\mathcal{K}^{[-1,0]}(\text{proj} \Lambda)$. We show that an algebra has finitely many isomorphism classes of basic $2$-term silting objects if and only if all cotorsion pairs in $\mathcal{K}^{[-1,0]}(\text{proj} \Lambda)$ are complete. Furthermore, we establish that this criterion is also equivalent to all thick subcategories in $\mathcal{K}^{[-1,0]}(\text{proj} \Lambda)$ having enough injective and projective objects.

Abstract:Let R be a valuation ring and let Q be its total quotient ring. It is proved that any singly projective (respectively flat) module is finitely projective if and only if Q is maximal (respectively artinian). It is shown that each singly projective module is a content module if and only if any non-unit of R is a zero-divisor and that each singly projective module is locally projective if and only if R is self-injective. Moreover, R is maximal if and only if each singly projective module is separable, if and only if any flat content module is locally projective. Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for a valuation ring with non-zero zero-divisors to be strongly coherent or π-coherent.A complete characterization of semihereditary commutative rings which are π-coherent is given. When R is a commutative ring with a self-FP-injective quotient ring Q, it is proved that each flat R-module is finitely projective if and only if Q is perfect.

When are KE-closed subcategories torsion-free classes?

Abstract:Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring and denote by $\mathsf{mod} R$ the category of finitely generated $R$-modules. In this paper, we study KE-closed subcategories of $\mathsf{mod} R$, that is, additive subcategories closed under kernels and extensions. We first give a characterization of KE-closed subcategories: a KE-closed subcategory is a torsion-free class in a torsion-free class. As an immediate application of the dual statement, we give a conceptual proof of Stanley-Wang's result about narrow subcategories. Next, we classify the KE-closed subcategories of $\mathsf{mod} R$ when $\mathrm{dim} R \le 1$ and when $R$ is a two-dimensional normal domain. More precisely, in the former case, we prove that KE-closed subcategories coincide with torsion-free classes in $\mathsf{mod} R$. Moreover, this condition implies $\mathrm{dim} R \le 1$ when $R$ is a homomorphic image of a Cohen-Macaulay ring (e.g. a finitely generated algebra over a regular ring). Thus, we give a complete answer for the title.

Abstract:Abstract We study direct-sum decompositions of torsion-free, finitely generated modules over a (commutative) Bass ring R through the factorization theory of the corresponding monoid T ( R ). Results of Levy–Wiegand and Levy–Odenthal together with a study of the local case yield an explicit description of T ( R ). The monoid is typically neither factorial nor cancellative. Nevertheless, we construct a transfer homomorphism to a monoid of graph agglomerations—a natural class of monoids serving as combinatorial models for the factorization theory of T ( R ). As a consequence, the monoid T ( R ) is transfer Krull of finite type and several finiteness results on arithmetical invariants apply. We also establish results on the elasticity of T ( R ) and characterize when T ( R ) is half-factorial. (Factoriality, that is, torsion-free Krull–Remak–Schmidt–Azumaya, is characterized by a theorem of Levy–Odenthal.) The monoids of graph agglomerations introduced here are also of independent interest.
