Abstract:In this paper we prove a local surjection theorem with continuous right-inverse for maps between Banach spaces, and we apply it to a class of inversion problems with loss of derivatives.

Abstract:As is known, the local behavior of maps is one of the most important problems of analysis. This, in particular, relates to the study of mappings with bounded and finite distortion, which have been actively studied recently. As for this work, here we solve the problem of the behavior of maps, the inverse of which satisfies the Poletsky inequality. The main result is the statement about the equicontinuity of the indicated mappings inside the domain in the case when the majorant corresponding to the distortion of the module under the mapping is integrable in the original domain. It should be emphasized that the proof of this result is largely geometric, at the same time, it uses only the conditions of boundedness of the direct and mapped domains and does not involve any requirements on their boundaries. The study of families of mappings inverse to a given class may turn out to be trivial if we are talking about quasiconformal mappings. In the latter case, we do not go beyond the limits of the class under study in the transition to inverse maps. Nevertheless, when studying mappings with unbounded characteristic, this question is quite substantial, as simple examples of the corresponding classes show. The idea of the proof of the main result is based on the fact that the inner points of an arbitrary domain are weakly flat. The last statement can be called the Väisälä lemma, which was established in his monograph and related to families of curves joining two continua between the plates of a spherical condenser. The proof is also based on the fact that the module of families of curves joining two converging continua in a good domain must tend to infinity. In this case, the neighborhood of some inner point of the mapped domain serves as ''good'' region, in which we check the equicontinuity of the inverse family of maps. The results of this article are applicable to many other classes of mappings such as mappings with a finite distortion in the sense of Iwaniec, Sobolev classes on the plane and in space, and so on.

Abstract:We Study the convergence properties for some inexact Newton-like methods including the inexact Newton methods for solving nonlinear operator equations on Banach spaces. A new type of residual control is presented. Under the assumption that the derivative of the operator satisfies the Holder condition, the radius of convergence ball of the inexact Newton-like methods with the new type of residual control is estimated, and a linear and/or superlinear convergence property is proved, which extends the corresponding result of [B. Morini, Convergence behaviour of inexact Newton methods, Math. Comput. 68 (1999) 1605-1613]. As an application, we show that the inexact Newton-like method presented in [R.H. Chan, H.L. Chang, S.F. Xu, The inexact Newton-like method for inverse eigenvalue problem, BIT Numer. Math. 43 (2003) 7-20] for solving inverse eigenvalue problems can be regarded equivalently as one of the inexact Newton-like methods considered in this paper. Abstract:A recognized trend of research investigates generalizations of the Hadamard's inversion theorem to functions that may fail to be differentiable. In this vein, the present paper explores some consequences of a recent result about the existence of global Lipschitz continuous inverse by translating its assumptions of metric nature in terms of nonsmooth analysis constructions. This exploration focuses on continuous, but possibly not locally Lipschitz mappings, acting in finite-dimensional Euclidean spaces. As a result, sufficient conditions for global invertibility are formulated by means of strict estimators, ∗ -difference of convex compacta and regular/basic coderivatives. These conditions qualify the global inverse as a Lipschitz continuous mapping and provide quantitative estimates of its Lipschitz constant in terms of the above constructions.

Abstract:Let $X$ and $Y$ be metrizable spaces and suppose that there exists a uniformly continuous surjection $T: C_{p}(X) \to C_{p}(Y)$ (resp., $T: C_{p}^*(X) \to C_{p}^*(Y)$), where $C_{p}(X)$ (resp., $C_{p}^*(X)$) denotes the space of all real-valued continuous (resp., continuous and bounded) functions on $X$ endowed with the pointwise convergence topology. We show that if additionally $T$ is an inversely bounded mapping and $X$ has some dimensional-like property $\mathcal P$, then so does $Y$. For example, this is true if $\mathcal P$ is one of the following properties: zero-dimensionality, countable-dimensionality or strong countable-dimensionality. Also, we consider other properties $\mathcal P$: of being a scattered, or a strongly $\sigma$-scattered space, or being a $\Delta_1$-space (see [17]). Our results strengthen and extend several results from [6], [13], [17].

Abstract:Compared to the standard variational inequalities, inverse variational inequalities are more suitable for pricing American options with indefinite payoff. This paper investigated the initial-boundary value problem of inverse variational inequalities constituted by a class of non-divergence type parabolic operators. We established the existence and Hölder continuity of weak solutions. Since the comparison principle in the case of standard variational inequalities is no longer applicable, we constructed an integral inequality using differential inequalities to determine the global upper bound of the solution. By combining it with the continuous method, we obtained the existence of weak solutions. Additionally, by employing truncation factors, we obtained the lower bound of weak solutions in the cylindrical subdomain, thereby obtaining the Hölder continuity.

Abstract:In this work, we study the inverse spectral problems for the Sturm-Liouville operators on [0,1] with complex coefficients and a discontinuity at $x=a\in(0,1)$. Assume that the potential on (a,1) and some parameters in the discontinuity and boundary conditions are given. We recover the potential on (0,a) and the other parameters from the eigenvalues. This is the so-called partial inverse problem. The local solvability and stability of the partial inverse problems are obtained for $a\in(0,1)$, in which the error caused by the given partial potential is considered. As a by-product, we also obtain two new uniqueness theorems for the partial inverse problem.

It is proved that the uniform boundary of the family of such mappings is a discrete mapping. We separately considered domains that are locally connected at their boundary and regular domains in the quasiconformal sense.

Abstract:In this paper, we mainly investigate the local theory of integral Banach mapping spaces. We introduce notions of integral injectivity, integral local reflexivity, integral exactness and integral nuclearity. We prove that any dual Banach space is integral injective and any Banach space is integral locally reflexive. To our surprise, we also obtain that C is the unique Banach space which is integral exact or integral nuclear.

Abstract:In this paper we give a complete description of surjective linear isometries between Banach spaces of absolutely continuous functions on arbitrary (not necessarily compact) subsets of the real line with respect to the sum-norm. We also use this description to study approximate local isometries and approximate 2-local isometries on these spaces. In particular, we present generalizations of all known results concerning such isometries, and obtain the reflexivity and 2-reflexivity of the isometry group of absolutely continuous function spaces in a noncompact framework.

In particular, for mappings satisfying the inverse Poletsky type modulus inequality, we establish the possibility of their continuous extension to the boundary in terms of prime ends. Abstract:We consider a class of inverse problems defined by a nonlinear mapping from parameter or model functions to the data, where the inverse mapping is Holder continuous with respect to appropriate Banach spaces. We analyze a nonlinear Landweber iteration and prove local convergence and convergence rates with respect to an appropriate distance measure. Opposed to the standard analysis of the nonlinear Landweber iteration, we do not assume source and nonlinearity conditions, but this analysis is based solely on the Holder continuity of the inverse mapping.

Abstract:We study an extension problem for continuous linear maps in the setting of $(LB)$-spaces. More precisely, we characterize the pairs $(E,Z)$, where $E$ is a locally complete space with a fundamental sequence of bounded sets and $Z$ is an $(LB)$-space, such that for every exact sequence of $(LB)$-spaces $$ 0 \rightarrow X \xrightarrow{\iota} Y \rightarrow Z \rightarrow 0$$ the map $$ L(Y,E) \to L(X, E), ~ T \mapsto T \circ \iota $$ is surjective, meaning that each continuous linear map $X \to E$ can be extended to a continuous linear map $Y \to E$ via $\iota$, under some mild conditions on $E$ or $Z$ (e.g. one of them is nuclear). We use our extension result to obtain sufficient conditions for the surjectivity of tensorized maps between Fréchet-Schwartz spaces. As an application of the latter, we study vector-valued Eidelheit type problems. Our work is inspired by and extends results of Vogt [24].

Abstract:We consider uniformly continuous surjections between $C_p(X)$ and $C_p(Y)$ (resp, $C_p^*(X)$ and $C_p^*(Y$)) and show that if $X$ has some dimensional-like properties, then so does $Y$. In particular, we prove that if $T:C_p(X)\to C_p(Y)$ is a continuous linear surjection, then $\dim Y=0$ if $\dim X=0$. This provides a positive answer to a question raised by Kawamura-Leiderman \cite[Problem 3.1]{kl}.

Abstract:In this paper we establish for the first time local semiconvexity estimates for fully nonlinear equations and for obstacle problems driven by integro-differential operators with general kernels. Our proof is based on the Bernstein technique, which we develop for a natural class of nonlocal operators and consider to be of independent interest. In particular, we solve an open problem from Cabré-Dipierro-Valdinoci [CDV22]. As an application of our result, we establish optimal regularity estimates and smoothness of the free boundary near regular points for the nonlocal obstacle problem on domains. Finally, we also extend the Bernstein technique to parabolic equations and nonsymmetric operators.

Abstract:By means of fixed point index theory for multi-valued maps, we provide an analogue of the classical Birkhoff--Kellogg Theorem in the context of discontinuous operators acting on affine wedges in Banach spaces. Our theory is fairly general and can be applied, for example, to eigenvalues and parameter problems for ordinary differential equations with discontinuities. We illustrate in details this fact for a class of second order boundary value problem with deviated arguments and discontinuous terms. In a specific example, we explicitly compute the terms that occur in our theory.

Abstract:We study mappings that satisfy the inverse modulus inequality of Poletsky type in a fixed domain. It is shown that, under some additional restrictions, the image of a ball under such mappings contains a fixed ball uniformly over the class. This statement can be interpreted as the well-known analogue of Koebe's theorem for analytic functions. As an application of the obtained result, we show that, if a sequence of mappings belonging to the specified class converges locally uniformly, then the limit mapping is open.
